Palm desktop 6.2.2 losing data

I've tried to solve this with the chat support with Palm to no avail.  Every so often my data is gone from my desktop calendar.  They said that the events are purged and backed up every week to month, depending on the chosen time in "tools" but only 1 week can be chosen in my software.  I reinstalled the software, same thing.  I can't imagine why anyone wants to purge events regularly, I want a calendar for the history it can provide in addition to future events.  Actually, recurring events weren't purged, only separate events.  Is this a bug in the software that might be fixed?  Or is this the way Palm 6.2.2 is meant to be and I need to switch to a different calendar program?  I've used Palm for years and this is new to me with Vista and 6.2.2.  Fortunately I have it all backed up in anothere place or I'd really be frustrated!

It's happening again, lost all the data, but my handheld was up so date so it's just annoying and not critical.  Will the software people let us know if there's a fix for this?  I might have left the calendar open when I restarted, I'm not sure, but it didn't revert to a recently saved copy, it lost all the data except for recurring events and a few really old events.
Also, my backup copy was corrupted in the same way.  I had no file on the computer that was current even though I went through the "save all" recently.  Where is this saved?
I had exported a copy and tried importing it, but then it had duplicates.  Is there a way to get rid of duplicate events easily?
Thanks.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2.2 Loses Data - is there a resolution?

    Has there been a resolution to the problem of Palm Desktop 6.2.2 losing data if the Desktop is open and the computer gets somehow shut down?  I have now lost data several times, probably due to IT setting all of our computers to turn off automatically after a period of time, and also due to the occassional computer crash.  Looking at older posts here, I see many with the problem but no resolution (other than going back to an earlier version of the software, which does not support bluetooth).  I now go through a totally unacceptable amount of data back-up - manually exporting, etc - which makes the software a real pain. I have been a Palm user since the very beginning, and like many others am greatly disappointed.  Is there a patch or update out there yet to fix this glitch?  I use Palm Desktop by Access, version 6.2.2, on Microsoft Windows XP Professional Svc Pack 3 (and a Treo 700p, although that is irrelevant here).

    Glad to help ccam, hope things work out well.
    Several of us volunteers have complained about listing 6.2.2 as a recommended download for XP users, but to no avail.   The version that came with your device (4.2) is downloadable from my "Manual" link below if you no longer have the disk.
    It may be of benefit to do a "Clean Uninstall" of all Palm software before going back to 4.2.  A thread with guidelines is here:

    If you haven't installed the free "NVBackup" to your device, I highly recommend it!!   It makes an exact mirror of your device, compacts it, and saves it on an SD card.  It's saved my bacon many times when I used to change software on my Palm devices as often as my socks!

  • How to reinstall Palm desktop for Windows without losing all my desktop data

    I use a Palm T|X and Windows XP Pro.  I was using Palm Desktop 4.x but decided to upgrade to the latest version. 6.2.2.  I have had a lot of problems since then, HotSync does not work properly with CalorieKing and Palm Desktop complains about "switching users" each time I try to open Contacts.
    I want to uninstall Palm Desktop 6.x and reinstall Palm Desktop 4.x.  I know that my data will be safe if after the new install I tell HotSYnc to have the handheld overright the deaktop.  However, what about the programs?  Will they also get transferred from the Palm back to the desktop?   Will the conduits be set up correctly for Documents to Go, CalorieKing and my other applications, or will I have to reinstall them?
    Post relates to:

    The programs are still in place, but how does the "new" copy of Palm desktop know they are there?  Also, there are copies of the programs that are installed only on the Palm but not the Windows machines in one of the Palm desktop folders that use used to restore data to the Palm T|X. How do I save that data, without having to install all those programs yet again, even though they already exist on the palm?.

    My wife has been using Palm PDAs for about 10 years, most recently a TX. Both this and her PC laptop have been stolen. Something set in 2009 is corrupt. Download DBFixIt from http://www.pimlicosoftware.com and search the forums for 'corrupt calendar entry' to find the instructions. The Palm OS Data Mangler Manager has a tendency to bug out sometimes. This is probably the the 10,000th time somebody has had a data corruption that causes their calendar/memos/tasks/[insert PIM app here] to crash.

    Have you messed with versamail on the device any? Sounds like you have configured an eas account on the device either accidently or intentially, you will have to delete that account before you can sync contacts and calendar to your pc.
    Once you have configured versamail to sync any email account you have to have atleast one set up so you will need to set up a new email account either fake or real before you can delete the eas account.

    The same thing has happened to us. We don't sync with any device, but have changed computers, so are just transferring data from Palm Desktop on one computer to another (exported a file, put it on a flash drive, and then imported it). THe strange thing is that it doesn't move all the dates back one day, just some of them. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to which ones. And we noticed that it just dropped one all together.
    Looked at one of the dates that was moved. It is a repeat (a birthday). And when you look at the details of the repeat, the date is changed and where on the initial computer there was no end date, on the new computer it has put an end date.
    The desktop software is Pal Desktop by ACCESS, version 6.2.2
    Would love some help!!

  • Can't sync Palm with Mac through iSync, only syncs with Palm Desktop

    I have an older Palm Tungsten T3 that I use basically only to run a medical application that I need at work (ePocrates, which has its own conduit and auto-updates itself with hotsyncs). I haven't tried to sync it to my Mac for a long time. I use iCal for my calendaring needs, sync it with my iPod, and ignore the old stuff that's on the Palm, which I hardly ever even sync.
    Today I had to reinstall the Epocrates software, and decided while I was at it I'd try to get the Palm syncing with the Mac (iCal, contacts, etc) again because it would be nice for it to show the same calendar data.
    I reinstalled the newest version of Palm Desktop from scratch. Installed the ePocrates software on top of it. I have iSync 2.4. My Palm was not listed as a device initially. I chose "Enable Palm OS Syncing" from the menu; iSync then went through a series of steps in which it disabled several conduits (presumably to no longer sync with the Palm Desktop), then told me to enable the iSync Palm conduit through the HotSync manager, which I did.
    I now show the Palm as a device on iSync, but it has a yellow caution icon over it and I'm not sure why. Clicking on it shows an options dialog. I chose for the first sync I wanted to erase everything on the device and then sync with the Mac. My syncs appear to work, but when the data is checked it seems to sync only with Palm Desktop. The old junky data on the Palm was not erased as requested. Newer calendar events and contacts from my Mac have not made it to the Palm. The ePocrates auto update conduit is working fine but that's the only part that is.
    Any idea what's incompatible, or what I'm doing wrong here?

    I have The Missing Sync and used it to sync my palm TX. I am now in the process of trying to get iCal going properly again. No longer have any calender views in iCal and the week views don't show until I have opened a month view and then go back to the week view. Very bizzare. Also have a heap of untitled calendar views in the drop down list option when looking at the info on any event - these calendar views are not accessible anywhere else though.
    I'm not sure if it is Missing Sync or something I did wrong at present. Will also throw the problem to the Missing Sync people to see what they say. Will let you know. It seemed to work really well without needing the palm desktop!

  • Palm Desktop 4.0 for Mac Fails to Install

    I just downloaded Palm Desktop for Mac 4.0 -- actually file name is MacDesktop_40_TV.sit -- but it fails to install. Double clicking on the *.sit file creates a program file named Palm Desktop Installer with a creation date of Sep 17, 2002. When I run the installer, the process aborts at file 749 of 791 (file UPD107). Retrying gives the same result.
    Have others had the same problem? Is it a problem with the *.sit expansion process? Is the installer or the Desktop program incompatible with OS X 10.4.11? Note: I did try to establish a Chat Support Session with Palm tech support, but it asked me to download/install a Java RE plugin, and clicking that download button never started the download, and searching for the plugin on the Palm website came up with nothing....
    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    BTW, I have an ancient Handspring Visor Edge (Palm OS 3.5.2H2.0) that I've been syncing with Palm Desktop running on Windows XP under Parallels. I'm hoping I can get my data into the Mac environment so I can eventually transfer my data to a new iPod touch. Any additional advice you might have on that process would be welcome.

    I had an identical experience when I first got my handheld - the palm software wouldn't install on my iMac properly - the same error came up every time, and while it had successfully installed the desktop, hotsync manager was sadly missing. I spent hours playing with it to no avail, and the only solution I found was using it on my macbook running 10.5x (as opposed to 10.2.8). However, the date on the installer (2002) reflects the last time it was updated, which means that it should run with no difficulty on any machine since then. The .sit compression has nothing to do with it - it is one of the most common compression formats for the macintosh platform. It might help if you posted the exact error message you got, but a fairly common fix is to repair disk permissions for your hard drive in disk utility.
    Hope this helps

    Hello ELgambino.
     You can find my Transport Monitor clean up directions over in this thread.  You will also want to refer back to the Mark/Space website to find the directions to completely remove The Missing Sync for Palm OS software.  The clean up process should go like this:
    1. Remove The Missing Sync
    2. Remove Palm Desktop (don't delete your data folder in your Mac OS X User home folder)
    3. Reboot the Mac
    4. Reinstall Palm Desktop from the Centro software CD.
    5. Configure the iSync conduit
    6. HotSync.
    I would also backup your iCal data just to make sure that you have a good backup if the data is really important.

  • Viewing Chinese characters in old Palm Desktop in Mac OS X 10.5.8?

    Hello.
    My client used his old Windows 2000 SP4 Dell PC for his Palm Treo 680 desktop, Hotsync (backups too), and Palm Desktop with English and Chinese data (characters with CJKOS -- http://www.dyts.com/en/products.html ). He finally switched to his 3+ years old
    MacBook Pro with updated Mac OS X 10.5.8 since Palm finally released software for it compared a few years ago. However, Mac's Palm Desktop, iCal, Addressbooks, etc. do not show these Chinese characters.
    Do you know how do we display Chinese characters in these program? Other programs like Office 2008, Firefox v3.6.25, etc. show and input Chinese characters just fine. I know we have to use TwinBridge CJK/Chinese Partner v6.0 in Windows 2000 SP4 to show them so I assume it is similiar for Mac OS X. TwinBridge doesn't seem to have a Mac OS X product port. Is there a similar program (free preferred)?
    Thank you in advance.

I only saw the common/popular foreign languages (French, Spanish, and German) for Palm Desktop. No Chinese ones. I tried Apple's Address Books, and I saw Chinese and they were checked in non-administrator account. I guess that's not the problem.

  • Lost items when upgraded to Palm Desktop 6.2.2

    Hi,

    Thanx muchly for all good advice!

    You cannot use those data files in 6.2.
    6.2 has a different file format than previous versions and willnot recognize those files.
    What I would suggest is to copy your username folder in c-program files-palm.
    Paste that folder on the Windows desktop. Remove Palm desktop 6.2 using control panel-add/remove programs. Re-install Palm desktop that you previously had installed. Paste the username folder back into the palm folder on the c drive. Open palm desktop and see if your data is there.
    If it is, export your data for backup. Here is a procedure for this.
    The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
    Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
    Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
    With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
    Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
    With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
    After you have your data backed-up, install Palm desktop 6.2 and if the data does not migrate to 6.2, use the import function in Palm desktop.
    For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.

  • Palm Desktop 4.1.4 Install Aborts, Win Installer missing Palm Desktop.msi

    I have been running Palm Desktop 4.1.4 on my Windows XP PC, and doing regular
    Hot Sync to my Palm IIIxe handheld.  However, I had to have my PC recovered recently,
    and the Palm Desktop did NOT look like it got recovered along with the rest of my programs.
    I downloaded PalmDesktopWin414EN.exe to my PC, and tried to do a re-install via the
    native MS Windows XP Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs interface.
    The Install Shield Wizard starts up properly, and I see the Progress bar, but
    then Windows Installer stops, and complains about a missing file:
    "The installation source for this product is not available (Palm Desktop.msi).  Verify
    that the source exists and that you can access it."
    Sure enough, I do a Search, and I can find the Installer File Palm Desktop.msi
    nowhere on my PC.  Any suggestions on how to overcome this Windows Installer
    block?
    MY ENVIRONMENT
    I do have the following Palm CDs, just in case they are needed, but I would prefer getting
    this to work strictly by using the Palm 4.1.4 executable:
    a. Palm Desktop 3.1  Aug 2000  CD
    b. Palm OS Upgrade CD with
        1. Palm OS 4.1 upgrade
        2. Palm Desktop SW v4.0.1
    My Palm IIIxe is still powered on battery, and still contains all my Applications right now,
    so my problem is strictly getting my PC to come up on Palm Desktop 4.1.4 again, if
    possible.  Even if Palm Desktop comes up with null data, I could do a Hot Sync from
    Palm Handheld back to the PC in order to refresh all the application data.
    Suggestions?

    Trust me.  I am NO computer teck type in even the slightest sense of the word.  So the following suggestion may be completely lacking in helpfulness, BUT -- it may be necessary for you to "relive" the original process of earliest installation and by that I mean the first installation CD that came with the handheld. Verify that it WORKS with no issues.  THEN upgrade with the 4.1.4 install and you might find yourself cured.

  • Users lost in Palm Desktop 4.1.4

    A few days ago, I set about dealing with a critical space shortage on my data partition. My Palm Desktop data files are stored on that partition, in D:\Palm. The Desktop program files are stored in the default location, i.e., C:\Program Files\PalmOne.
    I copied the entire contents of my D: partition to a new drive, then used Windows Disk Management to rename both the old partition and the new drive so that the new drive (now containing all my data files including the Palm Desktop data files) became D:. The volume name for the new drive was slightly different so that I could keep track of which partition I was looking at. The end result was that the folder names and path for the Palm Desktop dataset did not change.
    When I started Palm Desktop after the drive installation, the "choose user" dialogue box displayed no user names at all. Then Desktop closed after briefly displaying an error message about the lack of available users that I didn't record.
    I looked to see what had happened to the Desktop dataset in D:\Palm. It was still there, apparently unchanged. Knowing of Desktop's default locations for its datasets, I looked in my C: drive. I found that a new folder had been created: C:\Palm OS Desktop. I went back to Desktop, and created a new user: "Dummy". A sub-folder with that name promptly appeared in C:\Palm OS Desktop.
    I started Desktop again, and tried to set D:\Palm as the folder in which the dataset should reside. I got an error message to the effect "that folder is in use by another user".
    So I moved the entire contents of D:\Palm to another drive, leaving D:\Palm present but empty, and went back into Desktop to tell it to use D:\Palm as the location for its dataset. It refused to do so, this time giving the error message The Palm Desktop could not move your data to D:\Palm. Nothing appeared in D:\Palm.
    I then tried to create a new user in Desktop in its current storage location. I used the name that I have used for years for my Palm, i.e., "Rob". Again, Desktop refused to accommodate me, giving me the error message Could not add user "Rob". "Rob" is an illegal user name, or the directory could not be created.
    So now I'm stumped. How do I get Palm Desktop to use my existing dataset again? Or recognize me as a Palm user?
    Some additional info:
    Of course, my T-E2's user name is "Rob". I'd really prefer not to have to change it. And if it matters, I'm running Palm Desktop 4.1.4 on WinXP Pro SP2. There is ample space on both C: and D: and in RAM, and more than sufficient horsepower in the my desktop machine's CPU. I have no difficulty manually creating a folder in D:\Palm or in C:\Palm OS Desktop.

    Well, nobody had any better ideas, so I adapted the logic that was developed in the thread at <http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=234272>. It was successful.
    For those who want to know lest they be afflicted with a similar problem:
    I backed up the dataset and moved it to another location, leaving D:\Palm as an empty folder;
    I uninstalled Palm Desktop;
    I cleaned up the Registry with CCleaner after the Palm Desktop uninstall failed to complete and forced a re-boot;
    I re-installed Palm Desktop to the same folder in C:\Program Files (it didn't give me an opportunity to set a data folder)
    I opened Desktop and re-set the data file location to D:\Palm using the Tools/Options menu;
    I backed up the structure Desktop then created in D:\Palm in case of need;
    I copied my original dataset back into place in D:\Palm;
    I backed up the contents of my T-E2 to a SD card (just in case), and
    I ran a Hotsync.
    Voila -- all is well. My data files are now in D:\Palm, my software is (re-)installed in C:\Program Files\PalmOne, and I now have the current version of Palm Desktop 4.1.4e installed. In other words, things are back the way they were, except that I have a slightly later version of Palm Desktop running on my machine.
    However, I still have absolutely no idea why copying the data structures to a new hard drive would have triggered the problem.

  • Palm Desktop 4.1.4 Calendar entries disappear

    Hi
     I am using Palm Desktop 4.1.4 not connected to any thing. Win XP 32 bit SP3.
    Recent calendar entries (since Mid Feb 2012)  disappeared. I reentered them and checked a few times and they were still there. Then several hours later they disappeared again. Only recently entered calendar entries disappeared.
    • There is only one user.
    • I am showing all  private records.
    • The location of my Palm data folder has not changed
    • This has never happened before.
    I have 1400 contacts and dates going back to 2000 so I am well under the maximum records.
    Thanks for any help

    Hi cygnusX1
    Thanks a lot for responding.
    I don't believe the Palm Desktop stayed open when the data was found missing. I believe I had closed it and then found the data missng upon reopening it...but I'm not perfectly sure about that.
    Since I posted, I testing it again by entering 3 dates in Feb and March 2012.  I check a few hours later and the dates were still there, even after closing the PD and reopening it a few times...then the next day, the newly entered dates were gone. All other existing data that was entered in the Calendar, Contacts etc seems to be uneffected.
    ==================================
    I just made the following observation:
    ==================================
    It seems as though only data that was entered from Jan 1st 2012 and onward, is disappearing. Contact data entered  from Jan 1st 2012 and onward,  has also disappeared. In the contact data, I made a change to an existing record in Jan 2012 and the original record is there but the change I made has disappeeared.
    There is existing  data in the year 2012 calendar that was entered before Dec 31 and that data is still there as well as all previous data.
    As far as your suggestion to export data, uninstall and reinstall, I will try that as soon as this post runs it course. I want to wait to see if any solution appear in the short term. Then, if the reinstall does not help, I guess I will have to consider a different Calendar and Datebook app.
    I would like to know what is going on. This seems very strange. It's never happened before. Been using this app for many years.
    Thanks again for any help
