Palm Desktop 6.2 & Hotsync manager (windows) cannot access internet during installation

I think that I posted this in the wrong forum before. If not, I apologize for the duplicate.
I just upgraded to windows 7 32-bit. I have Palm T/X and I was trying to install Palm Desktop 6.2 software from palm website. However, during installation I keep getting messages that "Setup was unable to access the internet. Check your internet connection and verify that it is working". even when I am downloading from the internet. My internet works fine. Has anyone else had the same problem and what is the fix for it. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How do you disable - hotsync manager window's fade out on close?

For the newer version of Palm Desktop and Hotsync Manager, how do you make the hotsync manager window stop fading out when closed or "done".
It stops me from being able to access ANYTHING until the fade is completed, and that is a complete waste of my time, also when I have much more important things going on (alarms/alerts) that can't be silenced during the fade.
And ... how do you disable the splash screen startup for the Palm Desktop, and how do you get the palm desktop to conform to standard windows start practices, so that when you open the program it comes up on the screen at the same windowed size I closed it at?
    Thanks!!
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

Thank you ... however it was already set for "normal window".  I deleted the icon and recreated and that seemed to fix it though, not sure why.
As for the splash ... its a waste of time ... the application loads faster than "they" would expect so all it does is extra advertizing for Access without having a purpose.  And again, its not just a second or so, its 3 to 5 seconds depending on what else I'm doing.. and if I'm reading an email while double clicking the icon to have it start on my second monitor.. the spash covers my email till the program's running.
The worse delay is the fade.  You already admit that it can vary depending on a number of things.. well that programmer may have thought it were very cool on a quad core intel @ 3 GHz .... try it on a 1 G p3, with an older video card.  Or try it on an older laptop .... the delay is 6 to 10 seconds while it fades it self to the nethers, it certainly didn't "CLOSE" when I told it to.. it took its dear sweet time.
The programmer probably thought "hey this is really cool mahn.. watch it fade away..."  by the third time of being into or out of the settings that re-triggers the closing fade, I was ready to kill that programmer.  Make him suffer for the stupidity of his vision.  Its one thing to make it "cool" and give people the option to live with that plain jane every day FASTER response... and quite the other to force people to relive your "cool" idea every f**king day, every time they go into settings, or need to see the log for what failed on backup.. etc.
Ever go upto a windows XP pc when someone says it seems slow and *de-select* the "FADE" option for their menus??  (Display Properties -> Appearance -> Effects -> deselect "use the following transition") I have ... and its amazing how perception changes because the menus are there NOW, not taking their time to pull off some grandious entrance ... the first time it may have been cool.. but by the 500 th time you've been into your start menu a year into the game.. that slow fade crap is working on your every nerve.
Poor impulse control would have had me killing the programmer that put that fade in there.. now I just want to put him in for an hour or two of waterboarding.
It was bad programming to force some idiots idea of a "cool" view on people, and the programmer should be shot down for it.  It shouldn't be... and it wasn't there before, so some mornon actually went out of their way to put something in because the program just wasn't "cool" enough for them.. and then they decided to F the rest of us by making it so we couldn't DEselect that slice of programmers heaven.
It may sound like I'm blowing things out of proportion... but really, it was fine the way it was, now they've gone and F'd it up.  Moves for the better get little publicity, you have to live with the knowledge no one is bitching, but when you screw something up ... you need to fix it and need to hear how badly your lack of vision made things for others.
and.. if they wont' fix it.. its coming off the pc.. I'll go back to the old "uncool" version.

  • When I start firefox through shortcut icon on desktop, the message comes that Windows cannot find C:\...\jqsnotify.exe

When I start firefox through shortcut icon on desktop, the message comes that Windows cannot find C:\...\jqsnotify.exe . Tried to search the file through Search also but could not find the file.

That is the Java Quick Starter, a couple of options for you:
    # Open the add-ons manager (in the Tools menu select Add-ons)
    # In the list of Extensions, click on Java Quick Starter to select it, then click on Disable
When you re-start Firefox that should stop the error.
The second option is to re-install Java. You are using an old version of Java so it is recommended that you install the latest version, available from http://java.com/

  • Windows 7 Desktop synchronisation - Windows cannot access \\server\users\name\desktop

    Hi there
My client has a laptop which won’t load the desktop when disconnected from the network. When you log on (while disconnected) you get the error
    “Windows cannot access \\server\users\name\desktop”
Works as expected while connected to the network.
The server is a Windows Small Business Server 2003 with active directory etc. and roaming profiles turned on. This issue does not occur on other workstations/laptops.
When I check the Users folder on the local system drive there is not a desktop folder. I assume this is the issue although I’m not sure how you would force windows to create one or why one hasn’t been created?
This is a brand new laptop so my initial reaction was to reset the laptop to factory state and then add the laptop back in to the domain. After this process the issue was still present!
I guess the only thing I should mention is that this was shipped as a Home Premium laptop and was then upgraded to Professional using an upgrade key.
I have checked Control Panel, System & Security, System, Advanced, User Profiles and the account shows as Local with Roaming Profiles greyed out.
    Any ideas?

  • Windows Cannot Access Specific Device, Path or File While Using Adobe Reader XI, Version 11.0.06

    Hello,
Recently, I have been experiencing a minor problem with the Adobe Reader XI Program loaded on my computer.  When clicking the data fields on PDF versions of various forms to enter numerical or text information, a dialogue box with a small white X in a red circle on the left side of the title bar pops open and is titled:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\TabTip.exe
There is another white X in a red circle symbol displayed in the message field of the dialogue box along with the following message:
Windows cannot access the specific device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
There is also an “OK” Button displayed on the right side of the lower margin of the dialogue box.
Although the dialogue box is repeatedly displayed whenever I click on a data field, the program still allows me to enter and save the numerical and text information that is entered in each data field.
My computer is a Hewlett-Packard Envy 23-d034 TouchSmart All-In-One Desktop Personal Computer with a Windows 8.1 Operating System that has all applicable Important and Recommended Windows Updates installed.  The Adobe Reader XI Program is the latest version, Version 11.0.06, and I have confirmed that there are no updates for the program at this time.
Could you suggest any recommended actions to correct this problem with the Adobe Reader XI Program?

unfortunately no. i have a problem in my computer that doesn't let me do that.
this is  th entire message though and it appears on the background of the program trying to load. all you can see is the frame of Rreader, and immediatly after that it shuts down

    Could someone please help?

    Hey All
I have actually managed to find out what it is so thanks for any suggestions up to now.
At work, we use McAfee AntiVirus.  Part of this is McAfee SiteAdvisor 3.5 for Internet Security.
In Policy Catalog in the McAfee ePO system under SiteAdvisor, there is Hardening setting.  What this does is block any unauthorised browser from being able to run.  Safari, along with the likes of Opera and some others are automatically blocked by this.  Once you uncheck, to allow users to run Safari, it works fine.

  • "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropiate permission

We subscribe to a service called "Vault" which provies its documents in encrypted PDFs using the etd format. As well as Digitial Editions we have Acrobat Reader 9 installed on our PCs (Windows XP,SP2). When a user tries to download any of the documents they are seeing the following error:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropiate permissions to access the item."
However, if they open Digitial Edtions (or have had it open at some point in the past) before they download the document it opens without any problems. We use ZEN works to manage our PCs, and we use something called Dynamic Local User (DLU) which means that when a students logs into a PC the user's local Windows account is created on the fly, and then when they log out it is then deleted. This means that they are effectively using Digitial Edtions for the first time everytime they log into a PC.
As anyone else seen the above error? Also, is there a way of stopping it? What does Digital Editions do the first time it is opened? Are there registry keys that we can add, which emulates the opening of Digital Editions so it doesn't have to be opened first before we can download the Vault documents?
Any advice/tips would be most welcome.

Some required information are needed for us to help you.
    Hi NabeelOmer,
We wonder if you have taken any action such as system restore after this issue occurred.
You might also try this command to restore your access control list.
Run this command to navigate to the drive letter, example is D

Visual Studio made changes for your whole system, if the file has been moved or deleted this error would occur.
Since you mentioned that you get this error almost everywhere even in control panel. We suggest you repair/reinstall your Visual Studio first and check if it could be fixed.

Firefox would not load Yahoo home page properly, checked add ons and plugins-no problem. So unistalled. When reinstalling, went through until the end, then I get:
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item.
I went through the Help section on this page, even to right clicking the file and "run as administrator". It went through and restarted the computer. When I went to look for the program, it wasn't listed in All programs. I searched files and the only thing there was the same message as above.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 13.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • Crashes when running applications from network share - "Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons"

    Hi,
starting a couple of weeks ago, we get the following error(s) when running applications from a network share. We don't know what causes this, we are not aware of any major changes in our network infrastructure or client/Server configuration. We did upgrade
a lot of machines to Windows 8, but the issue also occurs on older Win7 computers.
We figured out a workaround though: The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share (like
\\share.domain.Company.com) and only cause problems when running from
\\share directly. They have worked fine for years without FQDN though.
    Any ideas?

The error value is listed in the Additional Data section.
    User Action
    1. Open the file again. This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again.
    2. If the file still cannot be accessed and
    - It is on the network, your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.
    - It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer.
    3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER.
    4. If the problem persists, restore the file from a backup copy.
    5. Determine whether other files on the same disk can be opened. If not, the disk might be damaged. If it is a hard disk, contact your administrator or computer hardware vendor for further assistance.

    Hi,
    >>The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share
It sounds like a DNS suffix issue. When this issue occurs, please try to ping share on the client, then check if the corresponding IP address is correct. If the IP address is wrong, please adjust your settings of DNS to make sure that the client can resolve
    the share correctly.
If it's very hard to change the settings of the DNS for some reason, as a work around, we can add the entry into the clients' hosts file.

After some testing I see that if I select any executable associated with installing an application, I get this error.
I've been searching all over the internet for a solution to this proble.  Does anyone know why this happens and what I can do to fix it?

Ok this will be a long post, and for starters I wanted to point something out to everyone - there is two separate discussions going on in this thread. On one side you have a discussion about servers and people using thin clients or Citrix having this error
code and changing Internet Explorer to resolve this conflict. Then on the other side all the stand alone home users with XP and Vista and 7 trying to figure out what is going on with their install that has the exact same error code. Microsoft in their infinite
wisdom has given this error code to relate to multiple different errors hence the confusion.
Now here is my story, with out a resolution yet.
Ok, so I ran into a real nasty trojan virus, that is now resolved and gone. However, when I went into the process of being able to resolve this issue a sticky byproduct was this permissions issue. This is how it happens, I download a video with Firefox or
any browser Opera, IE whatever. Then after I have downloaded it into the proper location I can see it within the downloads list from the browser, should I double click to launch the video with WMV it will fail with that error "Windows cannot access the
specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item". However, should I open the directory and then launch from the true download location, rather in the list of the files within the browser download list it
will launch fine. This is the problem I can utilize the programs directly launching them from explorer, however should I try and launch a program from inside another program it will fail to launch.
This is a Vista 64 bit installation, and I am pretty tech savvy individual. What I have tried thus far is to take owner ship of the directory since trusted installer was the owner previously. After I had done that I went into the permissions of the exe and
sought to make sure that the file was open for everyone to be able to modify and have full control - it was. After that I also tried launching the browsers as admin privileges to see if it would still launch. It will not it refuses to allow calls to this directory.
That being said it is also a big problem when I use Corel DVD Moviefactory, because this program is trying to launch other programs from this directory to run. So, I need to figure out why is it that I am not able to have programs make calls to this directory
and try and launch exe files and fail, yet the permissions are fine and I can launch them from directly clicking on the item in a directory?
Further clarification as to what happens:
    Firefox downloads to Harvester\downloads
All my pictures, movies, executable, rar/zip, reside in this directory "downloads"
In the browser Firefox there is a "downloads" [contrl+J] list that shows what you have downloaded through the browser
All of these items are able to double click and execute from this list with out having to navigate to the "downloads" directory
When executing a WMV file it will fail and error out with the "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item" error.
However, navigating to this directory will allow me to launch all programs with out any problem, the difference is I am launching from the file rather than through a program making a call to the x86 directory to launch the file. If I have an item that doesn't
require a program to launch from the x86 directory it will launch ok through Firefox, ex InfanView, HJsplit, etc.
This is a problem with other programs making calls to external programs residing in the x86 directory like Corel Moviefactory 7. While running it will make the same error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the
appropriate permission to access the item" when trying to make a new DVD, because it utilizes something in that directory an external program.
This happens with Opera as well, don't know about IE I don't use it.
What I have done thus far:
Removed my firewall that was MS native firewall
Removed my anti-virus and malware software - AVG, MalwareBytes, Windows Defender, Windows Security Essentials, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spy cop, and a few others
Went and took ownership of the directory
    Tried registry hacks
Altered AVG to exclude the (x86) directory
Re-installed AVG and MalwareBytes to see if I can repair the file
Shared the (x86) directory for everyone and inherited the permissions
Tried CLI restoring of default permissions
Tried to make changes in safe mode still shut down.
This is where I am now....waiting for a scan to end to reboot and check to see if I was able to make any progress.

Installed FF 16, 17, 18. Will not open in normal administrator login, nor with "Run as administrator" but will in W7 safe mode. Changed permissions (had to do it in W7 Safe Mode, normal login would not allow (logged in as an administrator) could not delete the Mozilla files in normal login. On rare occasions, with a new install, I could get it to open once, then not again. Searched the reg for any mention of Mozilla or FF and cleaned it. Tried FF safe mode, no luck. Checked permissions after taking ownership and propagating full ownership rights to all FF files, many reboots, no luck. Chrome, IE and SeaMonkey work fine. Using a fairly new install of W7 Professional 64 bit, on a Dell Optiplex 990 i7, 16GB ram. Had the same problem with another user on an identical box. No problem on other computers No other program problems.

I should have been a bit more definitive.
I have uninstalled FF, with the windows uninstaller, by manually cleaning the files and the registry of any mention of FF or Mozilla, and by running Revo uninstaller - always rebooting and checking to see if the files are indeed gone. (I have set windows file preferences to see all files, including system files.) I have run 4 AV/malware scanners and found nothing but a few tracking cookies. I download, from Mozilla.org, (http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/18.0/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2018.0.exe) a fresh copy of the Firefox Setup 18.0.exe each time and install when logged in as an administrator and choose "Run as Administrator". I get the same result each time I try to open Firefox. Consistently does not open, gives the error: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla\firefox.exe Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." This happens even when I run the .exe file from the x86 program directory. I have also attempted to run in XPsp3 compatibility mode to no avail,
    I make the following assumptions:
    The system is not infected
    I am doing clean installs
There is no existing trace of FF on the system
I get identical results on one other W7 64 bit Optiplex 990 system with an i7 processor and 16 GB or ram.
I CAN run in windows safe mode with networking.
I have no other software or hardware issues.
