Palm Desktop 6.2 software issue

I recently downloaded the Palm Desktop 6.2 software from the Palm.com web page. I am using Windows Vista 32-bit. The software "installed satisfactorily", but when I opened the software on my desktop computer, only the media and install buttons were available on the left hand side of the software. The buttons for date, address, to do, and memo were missing. I had to restore to an earlier date to use the former software.  I have had this happen on both a desktop & laptop computer. Please advise.

I regards to the color categories, it is stated on the download page on the Palm website. You probably have installed Palm desktop directly from the CD which does not explain the differences.
In Palm desktop 6.2 the function to store the data in a different location is not available.
Regarding the calendar entries, you have probably exceeded the maximum number of records allowed on the device.
Here are a couple articles regarding this from the Palm website.

  • Oldest viable Palm Desktop for Centro (Verizon)?

I've been using Palm devices for many years (starting with the Palm Pilot Pro).
I've come to depend heavily on an app called Desktop To Go (from DataViz), which I use to  syncronize my Palm Datebook and Addressbook with Schedule+ (which I've also been using for many years).  I've just recently started "test driving" a Centro... hoping that it will replace my Tungsten C and Motorola v60s cell phone with one single device.
Up until this point, I haven't done anything to my production laptop, on which the afore-mentioned software is installed.  I've been using the Centro in "stand alone mode".  Now, I'm beginning to test syncing.  I've created an image of my production laptop and am testing the syncing on a second machine (before I actually make changes to my production laptop).
I'm currently using Palm Desktop 4.1, which came with my Tungsten.  If I install the Palm Desktop 6.2 software, that comes with the Centro, the Desktop To Go conduit begins acting up.  It triggers an error message (Date Book: Access violation) and fails to sync with Schedule+.  I've also tried to use the Palm Desktop 4.1.4, but with similar results.  Desktop To Go is no longer being sold or supported, so I can't get support from DataViz.  I am using the last version of Desktop To Go that was produced (2.509c).
I've tried using my current version of Palm desktop and the Desktop To Go conduit seems relatively stable.  While I suppose that this won't sync everything to my laptop, it seems to sync everything that I need.  I also use TimeReporter4 from Iambic, which is also out of support, but seems to sync, as does QuickSheet 5.1.1.
My question... does anyone see any potential issues with using my existing 4.1 version of Palm Desktop with the Centro?  When I sync with the 4.1 version, it does generate a sporadic error message.  I think the Centro hardware/firmware is trying to call a function that the software doesn't support.  Even though an error message is generated, the rest of the sync continues without further incident.
I hope to get some good quality feeback from the many subject matter experts that use this board!  Posts from people with first hand knowledge are most welcome!

I can verify Palm Desktop 4.2 works perfectly with my Centro.  I have never used Desktop To Go unfortunately.

  • Sync with Outlook 07 on one computer and Palm Desktop on another?

Hi!  Here goes...Can you set up a Palm Centro to sync with one computer with Outlook (07) and another with Palm Desktop?  One computer is at home (Outlook) and the other is my work laptop which does not use Outlook at this point.  I would like to sync regularly with both.  Also....since my work might eventually switch to Outlook - can I change this syncing option at that point and sync with Outlook 03 on one computer and Outlook 07 on another?
    Thanks for all your assitance!
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Hello dcusuman and welcome to the Palm forums.
The answer to your questions is yes.  You can sync your Centro to Microsoft Outlook 2007 on your home PC and then sync to Palm Desktop on your work issued computer.  Later on, if your company switches to Microsoft Outlook 2003, you will be able to use a shortcut in your Palm program group to switch the Palm Desktop PIM conduits to the Outlook conduits.
I am going to assume that you are going to be using Palm Desktop 6.2 that comes bundled on the Centro software CD.  If you do, there is no reason to download or install the Outlook 2007 conduit update from the Palm website.  That update is intended for the older Palm Desktop 4.x and HotSync Manager 6.x.

  • Do I have to give up Palm Desktop 4.2 with my new Windows 7 64-bit Computer?

Just got a new Windows 7, 64-bit computer. I am completely dependent on my Palm Desktop 4.2 software and don't want to give it up. However, I was told by an online chat rep. that I needed a bluetooth connection to hot synch my Centro with my new computer. Ran out and bought it, but it seems that on Palm Desktop v. 4.2 there is no option to hot synch via bluetooth...obviously, the program is too old.
Does this mean I have to "upgrade" to Palm Desktop 6.2? Yuk! This version stinks! 4.2 is the reason I'm on my 3rd Palm product. Is there a different calendar software that you can hot synch with a desktop calendar? Has anyone had any success with this?
    Any advice would be appreciated!

No windows 7 64 bit USB driver, PALM is SO OVER.
Sad I love my CENTRO on SPRINT.  I have 3 on my account and 2 7xx.  USB Bluetooth dongles are cheap but annoyingly flakey because of the crummy software that comes with them AND will they work with PTunes?  It didn't when I tried Bluetooth on Windows XP.
At the END of the day, if PALM is not committed enough to put out a windows 7 64 bit USB driver how can I be committed to this phone.  Looks like Android is getting help from palm, although I don't want to deal with learning a new phone.
If you find a good USB Bluetooth dongle device that works let us know here.
By the way, this ANNOYING chat board says me first name is an OBSCENE word.  PALM is insulting their loyal customer base.  I'll see if the Android board will let me use my first name.  :-)
    Thanks,

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 & Hotsync manager (windows) cannot access internet during installation

I think that I posted this in the wrong forum before. If not, I apologize for the duplicate.
I just upgraded to windows 7 32-bit. I have Palm T/X and I was trying to install Palm Desktop 6.2 software from palm website. However, during installation I keep getting messages that "Setup was unable to access the internet. Check your internet connection and verify that it is working". even when I am downloading from the internet. My internet works fine. Has anyone else had the same problem and what is the fix for it. • Migrating from palm desktop 4.2 for windows to ical

    Hi,
I am attempting to migrate my calendar and task information from my palm desktop 4.2 software on a windows xp machine to my brand-spankin' new iMac. The calendar file export type doesn't import into ical. I'm not even sure which application the task(to-do list) and memo(notes) data from palm desktop would be most appropriate to import into on the iMac, but I would like to migrate that data, too.
I did successfully migrate my contacts info from Palm Desktop into the Address Book on my IMac. Hooray!
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks.

Exporting Palm Calendar (Date Book): you should have in the Export dialog box the option of changing the export format from "Palm Desktop" to "vCal".
vCal (.vcs) files will import into iCal. You can also bring them into Entourage (not through the Import dialog box, but by dragging the .vcs file onto the Entourage icon in the dock).
You will almost certainly lose category information, if you were using any.
Exporting Palm Addresses: choose the vCard format, which Apple's Address Book will recognise (ditto Entourage if you take that option). But I see you've succeeded with that part.
Exporting Tasks: this gets tricky as Apple doesn't have a stand alone tasks or to do app and the to do function in iCal is a bit underwhelming. You'll be able to export Palm Tasks in "Tab & Return" format, which means you could open them in a word processing or spreadsheet program. I doubt you'd be able to get them into iCal with any ease. You may have better luck importing tasks into Entourage, which does have a proper Tasks function, but that's not something I've tried to do.
Exporting Notes/Memo: as with Tasks, your option is using the "Tab & Return" format. You may need a 3rd-party notes program if you don't want to use Entourage Notes.

It looks like you may have a bad installation of palm desktop and will need to re-install the program. Is all your data on the device as well as in palm desktop? Here is a procedure to backup the data from palm desktop.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each
category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name
it something like Palm Desktop Data. Copy and Paste the link
below in a browser and follow the instructions on that page for
    the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of
that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard
drive. Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data
that was changed to that folder and save again to the external
    media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm
Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop
or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
    To uninstall palm desktop in XP, you will need to follow this procedure;
    1. Backup users folder located at one of these locations:
    C:\Palm\(palm desktop username folder)
    C:\program files\palmone\(palm desktop username folder)
    C:\program files\palm\(palm desktop username folder)
    2. Uninstall(remove) Palm desktop in control panel-add\remove programs.
    3. On the start menu, in the run box, type regedit.
    4. Before making any changes you need to backup the registry. Click on file-export and then save in a location you can remember, like My Documents.
    5. Now go to the following Keys and delete the Palm folders. Be very careful at this point.
    HKEY_Current_User\Software\(delete)Palm desktop autorun
    HKEY_Current_User\Software\(delete)Palm
    HKEY_Current_User\Software\(delete)Palmone
    HKEY_Current_User\Software\U.S.Robotics(delete Palm entries only)
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\(delete)Palmsource
    6. Close registry.
    7. Go to C:\ and  C:\Program files, see if the Palm folders are gone.
    8. Restart the PC
    9. Reinstall Palm Desktop.

  • Palm desktop for T|X

I upgraded from T|X to Treo 755p.  Everything worked as it should--palm desktop, syncing--everything.  But I couldn't get my email.  I called tech support to see if I could downgrade the VersaMail program from the Treo version to the T|X version, because I wanted to get my email from a sync rather than my Treo going to the internet.  The tech suggested I insert my T|X disc to see if I could install the T|X VersaMail to the Treo.  Then as he was transferring me to someone else, we got cut off.  Next day's tech explained that downgrading the VersaMail could not be done.
Low & behold my Treo crashed almost as soon as I'd hung up.  Long story short, I returned my Treo, uninstalled the Treo desktop and re-installed the T|X desktop.  My T|X syncs perfectly, BUT my Palm desktop will not load!  Two desktops try to open (ea 1 a different color), the computer flickers black & then I get an error message: "Palm Desktop Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."  I clicked the "Send error report" and the "Debug" buttons several times.
    What to do?

  • Issues uninstalling Palm Desktop software (v. 4.2.1)

I am having issues uninstalling the Palm desktop software (v. 4.2.1) from my computer and Palm Support is no longer able to assist me, claiming the problem is too complex and OS-related.
Basically, I wasn't able to remove the software using the built-in uninstall feature so I was told to attempt a manual deletion of all Palm-related files in Terminal. After doing a search for these files via Spotlight, I was given the following directions:
    >> On the Terminal application.
    Type rm.
Press Space bar on the USB keyboard.
Drag the undeleted files to the terminal.
    Press Enter.
Check if the file is deleted. If not, just click anywhere on the desktop and after a few seconds check if the file is deleted.
This method was mostly successful and I was able to remove most of the files that I wasn't otherwise able to from trash. However, several files still remain:
1 - In an original folder labeled 'Palm 00-08-43', there are two applications that cannot be deleted: 'Palm Support' and 'Palm Desktop'. Both seem to be applications based on their generic icon; 'Palm Desktop' indeed opens up as the Palm Desktop application (v. 4.2.1) but the Palm Support file
cannot be opened because it may be "damaged or incomplete".
2 - In an original folder labeled 'Palm', there is an unidentified 'Palm Desktop' file (4.4MB) that cannot be deleted in Terminal either. (By "unidentified" I mean, no default application is specified to open the document.)
3 - Also, when searching for Palm-related files via Spotlight, I get a result for an application 'Palm Desktop Background' whose file path is associated with the unidentified and problematic 'Palm Desktop' file mentioned above in (2). The file path is as follows: Palm>Palm Desktop>Contents>Resources>Palm Desktop Background.
None of these files (whether individually or their folders) can be deleted in Terminal for the same reason, which Terminal specifies as "a directory". I even tried creating a folder and dragging that folder with all the corrupt files into the Terminal application but to no avail. Also, I made sure to run the Disk Utility to repair and verify disk permissions during this process.
Can anyone help me figure out why those specific files or "directories" cannot be easily deleted? The problem sounds complicated so if anyone knows where I might be able to seek assistance, that would be helpful too. Thanks!

    iBook G4 14-inch SuperDrive (M9848LL/A)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

What problem are you trying to solve? If you want to remove all signs of the Palm desktop software, what I did was open up a finder window, and then I searched for "Palm" and deleted everything that came up, except the Palm folder in my Documents folder.
Until I finally divorced myself from using the Palm desktop software, I had to repeat this operation several times.
The Palm desktop software is absolutely horrible. I suggest you move to Missing Sync by Mark Space software or use Apple's built-in iSync and forget about the Palm desktop software. You can get Missing Sync online from http://www.markspace.com

  • Synching issues between Palm Desktop 4.1.2 and Sun ONE Synch 1.1p2

This has been vaguely mentioned in a thread elsewhere. I thought I'd document my issues for anyone else searching.
Downloaded and isntalled PD 4.1.2. Synched fine with my Palm Vx.
Installed Sun's synch software 1.1p2. Synched with Calender Server. Synch between Palm and Calender directly failed. Synch between PD and Cal server appeared to go through, but nothing actually synched.
After this, synching between Palm and PD began to go wrong - date book wouldn't be synched, then tasks stopped, progressively getting worse.
Reinstlaled PD 4.1.4 and Palm and PD could synch again.
Uninstalled PD 4.1.4, installed an older version, 4.1, found on CNET's download site. Reinstalled Synch software, everything now synchs fine.
    Thank God for that!
    Chris

4.1.4 was originally designed for Palm OS 4.x devices, while 4.2 and 4.1.4e (Extended) were designed for PalmOS 5.x devices using the new PIM programs (Contacts and Calendar vs. Address Book and Datebook).

  • Palm Desktop software only displaying Media option

I have a Z22, and a PC running Vista.  I have used the Palm desktop for a couple of years with no problems.
The only change I made recently to my PC is installing Firefox.
The next time I opened the Palm Desktop, all the items like my Calendar, Memos, etc were no longer on the desktop display.
The only two items are Media and Install.
Attempting to find the desktop again, I tried to reinstall the software from the original disk.
It would not run, giving me an error and exiting from the installation.
So, I downloaded the desktop 6.2 from the Palm website.
No change, I still only see the Media and Install items.
What is the next thing to try?  My Z22 still has my contacts and other information, but it no longer appears on my computer.

  • PALM DESKTOP SOFTWARE - CONTACTS HAVE BEEN LOST

    Hello,
I have upgraded my computer a few months ago to a Windows 7 , 64 bit, i7 core Intel with 8 GB of Ram.  When I installed my Palm Desktop by ACCESS Version 6.2.2 from onto the the computer I uploaded all my contacts and everything worked like  a charm until two weeks ago.  i turned on my computer in the morning only to notice my entire database had been erased.
Luckily I had a saved file that I could re-uipload the contacts up to a certain point.  However I am worried that this will happen again.  I think perhaps the software is not compatible with 64 bit ?????
How can this be avoided???  Is there another more updated software so to avoid this problem???
    Please help.

Hello Jiggler, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
There is a known bug with Palm Desktop 6.2 - if a computer is shut down while the program is still running, it's possible to lose data.
Access (the makers of this version of the software) was notified a long time ago when it first appeared but they ended support when Palm when out of business.
The problem occurs on 32bit machines too.
Keep making backups as you have been doing, and things will be well.

  • Palm Desktop Software Crashed

I recently got a new laptop running Windows 7 and installed the 6.6.2 Palm desktop software so the palm could sync using bluetooth. It worked fine for a month and then it crashed in the middle of a hotsync and the program will not open. I did a clean uninstall, including the registry and reinstalled Desktop and it will not open. During the install, it asked me to do a hotsync and it appeared to work. I tried running as administrator and running in compatibility mode, still no good. Someone on this forum suggested that it was a windows update and that we should reset computer back to initial settings and turning off windows update. I am not going to do that. My wife is attached to her Palm and I need to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you set the HotSync conduit to use "USB" in Palm Desktop?
When you plug in the Palm E2, does your computer recognize it and make a noise?
Make sure you are not plugging it into a "hub", but directly into the PC.
Aceeca only offers a patch - I'm not sure why you uninstalled Palm Desktop!
Be sure when you open the Device Manager on your computer that the Palm E2 is still active, and not "gone to sleep".
When all else fails, a Clean Uninstall and Reinstall can usually fix most issues (as long as your USB ports are working correctly on the PC).

  • Palm Desktop Software for Linux

I recently purchased a Palm Centro (verizon).  I successfully sync it with Evolution (sometimes a little glitchy) via the gnome-pilot conduits.  However, I have not found a way to sync any software or to sync documents with dataviz software.  I see reports that Palm is building or has built a linux OS for their pda's.  Is this likely to be compatible with the Centro?  Is there or will there be a beta?  Is there a desktop software available for Linux?  I specifically use Ubuntu 8.10 but will upgrade to 9.04 soon.

The Centro will most likely be the end of the line device for Palm OS.  Palm is moving on to a different OS entirely.
