Palm Desktop 6.2 update won't open after installing on PC running Windows XP

I just installed the new version of Palm Desktop 6.2 on my Dell laptop running Windows XP Media Center to upgrade it from the older version and it won't open up. Whenever I try to open the application the message "Palm Desktop by ACCESS Application has encountered a problem and needs to close..." I've tried reinstalling the application but that doesn't help. I've also tried using the "Repair" of the installation to "Repair installation errors in the program." and it hasn't helped either. All my data on my Palm Centro is still there but I can't get Palm Desktop to open up. I want to get Palm Desktop to open up.

Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is not an upgrade to 4.x!   It was designed to fix the things Microsoft broke when Vista was born.
It lacks many features that existed for many years in the 4.x versions.
I'd suggest doing a Clean Uninstall and reinstall your original version!

  • Itunes 7.0.2 Won't Open after install - Got it working (Windows XP SP2)

    The Symptom
I spent the whole day yesterday trying to fix this problem. Could install Itunes 7.0.2 and Quicktime ok, but like others on this forum, once installed it flashed up the license screen for a couple of seconds and then nothing!! Very frústrating. This was on my father-in-laws PC and the same install had worked fine on my PC at home.
At the sametime, I had been trying to install Yahoo Messenger 8.x, this too was behaving oddly, in that it installed ok, but did not produce any short cuts or program executables.. so you couldn't run it... and yet, you could install v7.5 of Messenger ok, as you could with Itunes 6.5 and both would ran perfectly well. Got the old versions from www.oldapps.com by the way.
What I tried first, but failed for me.
I tried other suggestions on this forum as well as from other places:
    1) Turning off my virus checker and firewall, I was using F-Secure. I didn't believe it was this as I had used the same software on my PC at home and the install was ok there. Still didn't run after the install.
    2) Tried uninstalling Itunes and QuickTime several times and rebooting. Still didn't run after the install!
    3) Tried installing 6.x of Itunes which worked, and then upgrading to v7 of Itunes, which upgraded ok but of course then wouldn't run!
The solution that did work for me-
On browsing the net for a few hours, which is really what you want to do on New Years eve!?!? I happened to skim read a short piece by someone who had mentioned that their installation of Yahoo Messenger 8.x had failed due to their installation of Internet Explorer v6.x - their IE worked ok, but some install errors for Messenger had seemed to point to it anyway - read that here: http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-bugs/2006-August/036969.html
So, with this in mind, I decided to upgrade the version of I.E. to v 7, as my father-in-law was running v6.x.
    So:
    1) I uninstalled Itunes and Quicktime using Add/Remove programs, nothing else.
    2) (You may not get this issue as I did whilst trying to install IE7 so you maybe able to skip this step)
When trying to install IE7, it came up with the error "Setup could not verify the integrity of the file update.inf. Make sure the Crytopgraphic service is running on this computer", so I had to follow Methods 1-5 in this MS Article in order just to install IE7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798/en-us once those methods had been followed IE7 installed a-ok.
My Father-in-laws machine is a little knackered so you may not have any issues in installing IE7, so I suspect you'll be able to Step 2.
    3. Installed IE7 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9AE91EBE-3385-447C-8A30 -081805B2F90B&displaylang=en)
    4. Reinstalled Yahoo Messenger 8.0 and Itunes 7.0.2 and both ran up without an issue just before midnight so I was able to go off and enjoy new year with some booze and fireworks
    Conclusion
So, my conclusion, and i'm no expert, is that both Yahoo Messenger 8.x and Itunes 7.0.2 rely on Internet Explorer, which I think is a given!.. If something in IE isn't to it's liking it'll fail to run, i.e. a registry entry not quite right - or maybe some port settings, I don't know.
Of course it may have also been the cryptography service error that I resolved in step 2 above.
My advice, would be to either remove Itunes/Quicktime as in Step 1 and then upgrade to v7 of IE or try reinstalling v6.x of IE before attempting the Itunes install again.
    Good luck.
Oh, and seperate to the above issue, if anyone received a vbscript error when trying to install Itunes, I had to enter the following command at an MSdos command prompt:
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll
and then kicked off the install again.
Hope something in the above helps,
    Marcus

If re-starting doesn't help, it could be iTunesHelper that prevents installing.
Locate it in System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items.
Select the item and remove it by clicking on the minus sign.
Log out and in again and try installing iTunes again.

  • Motion 3 Won't Open After Installing

    Hi,
I reinstalled Motion 3 after doing it 2 days ago because the beach ball keeps coming up and never leaves causing me to force quit. I let it stay up one night and when i awoke 8 hours later it was still up. thus, i reinstalled after trashing it. there's never any motion files in the library to delete and no motion files in the receipts. this time it won't open after installing it and booting down computer. I have lion 10.7.5   the fcp studio disk that i install for motion says version 3 but could have sworn on the computer when it was working it said motion 4. Any suggestions? did all my software updates too.
    Thanks,
    joe

Motion 3 is part of Final Cut Studio 2. There are many threads on these boards about trying to get those apps to install properly on OS versions above 10.6.8. Here's one such thread. A search will bring up additional ones.

Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

@MikeNTxs - 64bit USB drivers have been available since April of 2010, and they do work. I've synced successfully to my Vista64 bit laptop many times via USB.
See the sticky thread at the top of this section titled "64bit Palm Desktop drivers are here!"

  • Aperture 3.4.1 won't open after install

Aperture 3.4.1 wont open after install.  it says my graphics card isn't supported.  Here's my card ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB, but I can't find specs required for 3.4.1, so I got no idea

Here is the Error Message I get
"The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for Aperture."
    Here is my hardware profile:
    iMac
    24-inch Mid 2007
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G56)
Went by the Apple store and they didn't have anybody that had seen this one yet.  Going by tomorrow for a deeper dive to see if they can find any issue with hardware.  Seems like they should have found this before release.  I suppose it could be an old card.  My iMac is from 2007, so it could be that they have passed it by.  I just want to knowwhat I need to get next.  Ill reply to this tomorrow if it gets resolved

are you getting an error message? if so, what does it

reboot your PC. open Task Manager to the Processes

does an itunes.exe process appear in Task Manager? if

b noir - i have been following your advice and i want to thank you for taking your time to try and solve these problems for ipod users.
i have been following this message board each day for the past week - ever since my iTunes stopped working. i have not yet seen anyone who is receiving the same error message as myself.
like most others, i downloaded the recent update for iTunes - since then, iTunes will not open. i have tried most of the other proposed solutions to no avail, such as downloading a stand-alone version of quicktime, making sure my msconfig start-up has the correct check marks, etc.
the iTunes set-up completes with no problem - i have tried installing by saving the file to my hard drive and then running and also by running the program straight from the download window. same results.
once i go to open iTunes, i receive the following error message: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem." Then I click "Send Error Report" just hoping I will receive a required update to make this work.
i was wondering if you could attempt to help me resolve this issue? i have my music saved to my external hard drive, so i am in no danger of losing my music. however, i need to open iTunes to update my iPod.
thanks in advance for your help.

  • ITunes won't open after installing update for 10.4

I updated my iTunes to the most recent version and restarted my computer. When my computer turned back on, I tried to open iTunes but it just keeps giving me the "The application iTunes quit unexpectedly" message and asks me to either ignore report or relaunch. • Suitcase Fusion won't open after installing the 10.5.8 update - Solution

This is a bit of an open and shut post as I've found the solution, but it's a bit obscure so thought I'd stick it up here in case anyone else had this problem.
After installing the 10.5.8 update, Suitcase Fusion (am using v12.1.7) would bounce once in the dock and then abort. I called Applecare (who had surprisingly not heard of this Application) and they suggested moving the com.extensis.suitcase.plist preferences file to the desktop and restarting my Mac (essentially resetting Suitcase Fusion).
    No joy.
I didn't feel that re-installing Suitcase Fusion was going to do any good, so said thank you and went back to scouring Google …and lo, the solution was there all along…
The problem had something to do with the *Bonjour Name* of my Mac. Apparently, if you have any special characters in your *Computer Name* or if it exceeds 20 characters, then this causes a problem with the *Bonjour Name* and then consequently with Suitcase Fusion …simples.
See? …told you it was obscure.
    Solution:
    1. Open *System Preferences > Sharing*
    2. Change the *Computer Name* to something shorter with no spaces or special characters, something like MyName-MacBookPro
(NB. If you're not logged in as an Admin user, you'll need to click the lock and enter a password first)
    3. Click Edit… to ensure that the .local name is the same
    4. Close *System Preferences* and restart your Mac
And Bob's your Uncle, that should do the trick :o)

That may be, but I didn't find it without considerable digging. And neither Applecare nor Extensis had heard of the problem/solution.
Just thought it would be helpful, that's all.

  • Itunes won't open after Installing 9 update

I installed the Itunes 9 upgrade. It downloaded fine. Then when it was done, I clicked on Itunes on my dock to open it but it just bounced like it was going to open but then stops and nothing opens. Is this happening for anyone else? Any suggestions on what to do...

The same thing happened to me where the icon "bounces," but iTunes won't open.
So apparently I don't have the right version of OSX for the program. OK. So what to do I to get back my old iTunes?
I'm a little ****** about this because I feel like a warning should have popped up somewhere during the installation process telling me my system wouldn't accommodate the new iTunes.
Secondly, I'm ****** off at myself because all of this trouble was caused by trying to download an episode of freakin' "Top Chef." Why on earth would the show require the newest version of iTunes?

  • App store won't open after installing OS 10.9.2

I installed OS 10.9.2 and now my app store won't open.  When I launch it from the dock, the icon bounces and the light illuminates beneath the icon indicating that it is running however no screen ever pops up.  I launched the app store from the applications page and the same thing happened.  I tried restarting the computer and holding the shift key upon reboot but this did nothing as well.  This is incredibly annoying.

Are you getting the menu bar at the top?
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.

  • ITunes won't open after installing upgrade and restarting

When I click on my iTunes icon in the dock, iTunes won't open. Instead, a message box comes up: "The file iTunes "library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."
Just before this happened, I imported a lot of music into my library. Now iTunes only opens if I pIug my ipod into my Mac.
Is there any way I can get iTunes to open by clicking on the icon, as it used to do?

What version of iTunes is installed in the Apple default location ..... /Applications/iTunes ???
Drag the iTunes icon in the Dock to the Desktop and release; it will be deleted with a poof! Don't worry it's only an alias.
In your Home Page ~/Library/Preferences/ ......... drag to the Trash and delete:
    com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
(don't worry ... new ones will be created upon relaunch of iTunes .... +see below+)
    Using: /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions
    RESTART the computer
Within the Applicatons folder: double-click the iTunes icon ... if the launch is successful, drag a copy of the iTunes icon to the Dock ... release ... you will now have a current alias in the Dock.
P.S. *Do Not* have the iPod connected to the computer during this process!

  • PSE 8 won't open after installing new Wacom tablet

I have a PC that runs on Windows 7. I received my copy of PSE 8 with my Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch tablet around Christmas in 2010, and it's never given me any troubles before. About two weeks ago I purchased a Wacom IntuosPro Pen and Touch, and after installing the drivers, I went to open PSE 8 and it refused to open. There is no error message; it simply doesn't open. I've checked Task Manager and I can't find the application attempting to run there, either.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program about 4 times now. I've uninstalled the Intuos driver completely. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Bamboo driver. I've tried running PSE as an administrator, tried restoring it from a previous version, tried opening it from the file location rather than the desktop shortcut, searched for days online for anyone having a similar problem, and nothing has helped. I have a .psd file that I tried opening, and though PSE attempts to open, ultimately it ends with a screen that says "Adobe has detected that the application Adobe Photoshop Elements has unexpectedly quit", and prompts me to send a crash report.
PSE 8 worked perfectly fine the day before I installed the Intuos. I haven't changed a thing with my computer other than installing the Intuos (which again, is now uninstalled) and everything else works the same. I can't for the life of me figure out what to do.
If you can offer me any advice, I would very much appreciate it! I've been using PSE 8 for years and I love it, and I've loathed the last few days of being unable to use it. Thank you in advance!

ok...update...the editor will now open..but can't get the organizer to open.  it just keeps saying "loading the lements organizer workspace.  Eventually that message disappears, but then nothing happens.
