Palm Desktop 6.2 won't read data file after IR synch with IIIC

I have Windows 7, an old IIIC, and Palm Desktop 6.2. Since I can use a USB with that combination, I synced with an infrared connection. The files made it to the Palm directory, but the desktop program won't read them. My previous version of Palm Desktop allowed me to search for the data directory, but I can't find a way to do so with 6.2. And, no, the older version wouldn't display the data, either, in spite of my specifying the path.
I'm so close! One more step and I won't have to buy a smart phone and pay a monthly fee to carry around my contact date. Please help.

Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is not an upgrade to 4.x!   It was designed to fix the things Microsoft broke when Vista was born.
It lacks many features that existed for many years in the 4.x versions.
I'd suggest doing a Clean Uninstall and reinstall your original version!

  • Data loss after routine synch with m515

    I just did a hot synch and discovered that almost all of my datebook info has been wiped out from both my handheld & the desktop!!  the synch log contains the following message:  "-- Date Book
       - Some handheld records were not copied to your PC. Your computer may be full or you may have reached the maximum allowed records on the desktop."
    Only about 5% of past calendar entries are still there, and about 10% of current/future entries.
      I went to the datebook.bak file but it is the same as the data file inspite of the fact I only synched the one time.
    Can someone please tell me there is hope for retrieving my data?  Should I just throw the Palm pilot out the window and go back to good old fashioned pen & paper?  This is not the first time I have suffered a complete data loss with these things - the last time was when I upgraded to a new palm & in spite of following the directions exactly, everything was lost.
    Thanks much, Janette

      Thanks a lot for responding, Aeisha.  I did the search & found the largest datebook.bak file.   I opened the palm desktop & used the import option.  I selected the exact location specified by the search results but the files don't match!  For example, the file found by searching is a bak file & its size is 1311 kb, but when I get to the location(thru palm import)  in the folder tree where it's supposed to be, the only datebook file there is labeled "unfiled.dba" and is only 640 kb.  I tried importing that but didn't get back any lost data.
        Is there another way you were thinking I could "import"?  Thank you for your help.  Janette

  • DNG Converter suddenly stopped working, won't read NEF files

    Hi all, I'm new here, but am looking for some help.
    I currently am on a mac book and run photoshop CS3. I've been shooting with a nikon d700 in raw. When I upload the photos to my computer I've previously run them through the DNG converter without a problem. Now, for the past two days it has just stopped working. When I try to convert the NEF files, they are just greyed out, I can't select anything. I tried reinstalling the DNG converter, but still no luck.
    I never had any issues with it before, and now it suddenly won't read my files. Any ideas what could be wrong?
    Thank you!

    nfietz wrote:

    Had you run the DNG on a Mac before?  On the Mac, the DNG Converter works on folders only, not on individual files (unless you use the Finder to drop the icons of your raw files on the DNG Converter application icon).  From within the application, using File > Open, the icon and names of individual raw files will always appear grayed out.
    You need to target the folder that contains the files you want to convert.
    CAVEAT: all eligible files in the folder will be converted, including any and all DNG files that may already be contained in the folder.  So if you have any DNGs in that folder, they will also be converted again and the original DNGs may be overwritten.

  • How to read .dat files that are hidden?

    Is it possible to read .dat files that are set to hidden? 'cause what i did was i created a .dat file and set its attributes to hidden and my Read file code cannot read hidden files.
    here's my Read file code:
    Scanner read=new Scanner(FileReader("C:\password.dat"));
    and another thing, how do you Write a .dat file that is hidden too? 'cause my password.dat file needs to be updated.
    here's my Write file code:
    PrintWriter write=new PrintWriter("C:\password.dat");
    thank for the help.

    There should not be any problems opening up hidden files. Your problem is probably elsewhere (for example, you didn't escape the backslash, so what you posted is not your code).

  • Photoshop CS5.1 won't read raw files from Canon EOS M

    Photoshop cs5.1 won't read raw files from canon eosM, what to do?

    The EOS M requires at least Camera Raw 7.2 but Raw 7.2 is only compatible with CS6 or higher (CS5 is only compatible up to Raw 6.7)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    To open and edit Raw files, either upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud and get the CC version.
    Alternatively convert the Raw files from the EOS M to DNGs using the free DNG converter then edit the DNGs in CS5.1

  • Lightroom v2 won't read RAW files from Sony A77

    Hi there - just got a new Sony A77 but Lightroom v2 won't read RAW files when I try to import them.  I know I need to upgrade my version of LR (I will be going to v4) but... is there ANYTHING else I need to do or to upgrade in order to ensure Lightroom 4 will read those Sony RAW files?  Thanks!

    I don't keep track of what cameras are supported in what versions.  But, IF your camera is supported by the latest DNG converter, you could use it to create digital negative copies of your images.  Those DNG files can then be opened in the version that you have now.  You won't get anywhere near the development quality that you will get with Lightroom 4, but at least you can work on your images with what you have now.
    And if Lightroom 4 supports your camera, that is the only thing you can do to "ensure" that you can use your files.  Of course, if you modify them now with the version that you have, you can leave them with those adjustments when you upgrade to Lightroom 4, but if you want to use the new adjustments and the improved develop tools you'll probably have to basically start over on any images that you want to convert to the new PV 2012.

  • [Urgent] How to let FileAdapter to read next file after a customized period

    Dear friends,
    We are using SOA Suite 11.1.1.5 and use FileAdapter in BPEL Process to read files.
    The file adapter in BPEL Process need to handle 14 inbound different files every batch time. And we want to let File Adapter to start reading next file after every 5 minutes. How can we achive this?
    We tried the MinimumAge and SingleThreadModel properties, but seems no use.
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Tony

    Hi Tony,
    I think this can help you. Set the following JCA property in File/FTP Adapter .jca file. This will restrict the max no. of files to be read every polling cycle. Set the polling frequency to 5 mins.
           <property name="MaxRaiseSize" value="1"/>Let me know if any problems.

  • What are the file storage names for Palm Desktop 4.1.4? My data appears to be lost

    Hi,
    I am using Palm Desktop 4.1.4 and have the Application loaded on a Flash Drive. This was done long ago and maps to the E:.
    I am on Windows XP SP2.  I usually insert my flash into a USB port on my PC and start a shortcut which points to and starts the desktop off of the E: drive.
    I decided i wanted to also place the dekstop on my C: drive and started the install from the Flash drive. In my rush and stupidity, i did not correctly tell it to install to the C: and it ended up reinstall to the E:     So when i bring up the desktop, all is gone !
    I have looked and search in every way i can think of looking for files from .DAT, to .PDB, .PRC, etc etc.  If i take older version i find of many of these files and place them in the E:  root directory in which the desktop OPTIONS Menu says the data is stored, nothing changes.
    The OPTIONS menu under TOOLS in desktop states data files go to E:
    The application is installed under E:\PalmDesktop
    The .EXE, .DLL, files are under E:\PalmDesktop   as well as under E:\
    When the reinstall of the desktop occurred other folders that were under E:\PalmDesktop such as Components, Helpnote, Update etc and well as one with my name Brian don't appear to have been touched.
    I am not sure if my data is lost forever or not.   Can someone provide me with the exact file names that data in the desktop such as "Contacts"  is stored in so i can try to find them. I must admit i have never had such a difficult time finding the  data files for other products as i have with this one, but then again maybe thats a good thing.
    Thanks in advance for anyones help - Brian
    Post relates to: Tungsten C

    check in your flash drive Palmone>username
    The username that you've been using is Brian? if you see that folder open it and look for folders address (contacts) datebook (calendar) todo (tasks) memo pad (memo)
    then check if you have address.bak or adress.dat for contacts, datebook.bak for calendar if you see those try importing them to your palm desktop.

  • Reinstall WinXP and Palm Desktop - Don't Want to Lose Data ??

    Hi - searched for this in the forum, but didn't find any answers to my particular situation.  Just need to make absolutely certain I don't lose anything.
    Had to perform a format/reinstall of XP in December.  All up-to-date with service packs, etc.
    Now need to reinstall all my Palm stuff.
    I have all the files from my pre-format stored in a massive hard drive backup on a separate drive.
    My Centro is up-to-date as of December right before re-install; I have added some additional contacts/appts in the Centro since then.
    I have added some other data in Outlook 2003.
    Now, after I install the Palm desktop:
    How would I perform my first hot-sync?
    How do I get all my programs etc. back?  They are on the Centro right now - I don't want to lose them.  Some don't need to sync with computer and some do.  I can't afford to lose the data in these programs.  Will syncing with the phone (overwriting the desktop) allow my programs to stay the way they are on the Centro right now?
    Do I need to do something with the backup I made?  Is it even useful?
    Thanks in advance, and let me know if I'm not making sense.

    Hello!
    Fresh reinstall of Windows and Palm Desktop?  If so then all you need to do is plug the cable into the phone and hit the black button.  Palm Desktop will prompt create new user, just hit yes and your all set!  The hotsync process auto does a handheld overwrite sync style for this inital process.  If you already created the username in Palm Desktop that is the same as the Centro and have not yet hotsynced, rename that user to whatever and then do that sync.

  • Palm Desktop by Access won't install in Windows 7

    Guidance please! After upgrading Sony VGC VA1 from XP to Win 7, I cannot install a newly downloaded version of Palm Desktop by Access . I get error messages that  ...Palm Desktop by ACCESS.msi cannot be found. Uninstalling ihe previous version hasn't helped.
    This question was solved.

    Great!  Glad to help.
    AFAIK, there is no such version - 6.2.2 is the latest Access made before ceasing support for the program.
    MicroSoft has had a typo on their support site for a long time now.  Is this the version number you are referring to?

    I had this problem as well. I solved it by using an old Palm Desktop download instead of the one that Palm is providing now. My old copy was provided as a zip archive and the single file in the archive was named simply setup.exe. I guess the only difference between my old file and the file that Palm provides now has something to do with the installation software (it may be InstallShield; I don't remember for sure). In any case, if you are having this problem you might be able to find a usable file out there somewhere.

  • Need to read data files originally created in LabVIEW in C++

    I have originally created binary files in LabVIEW. These files are made by flattening labview data to a string, then converting the string to a U8 byte array which is then saved to a binary data file. A separate file is used to keep track of the variables written to the data file. (FAT) a 2D-String array (first element = variable name, 2nd element = staring byte location in .dat file, 3rd element = byte length of variable) is flattened to U32 and then written to a binary file.
    Opening the files in LabVIEW follows the inverse proceedure. The FAT file is read as a U32 binary data, converted to a byte array, converted to a string, and then unflattened from the string into a LabVIEW 2D-string data type. From this the starting location and length of the variable is extracted. These are used to read the data file, in U8, which is then converted bu a string and then unflattened to LabVIEW data according to the LabVIEW data type.
    I now need to now open these files in a Linux environment using C++. I am at a loss at how to emulate all of this data-type conversion, flattening, and unflattening in C++. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Faraclas wrote:

    I gathered that. But reading through the description gave me the
    impression that a few conversions/typecasts may actually be superfluous
    without any change to the actual data.
    > The problem I am having is trying to open up these files in C++. This system has

    > flexible system that works well).
    Well, it really isn't that difficult, it just won't be a one hour job
    for sure. A few guidelines:
    1) LabVIEW flattened data contains the actual data as is for all fixed
    size elements (scalars and clusters of scalars). Any variable sized data
    (strings, arrays) is prepended with an int32 for each dimension
    containing the number of elements for that dimension.
    2) LabVIEW flattened data is always in Big Endian (Most significant Byte
    first) format. This means for normal C(++) programs developed on an x86
    system you will have to byteswap every single 16 bit and 32 bit integer.
    3) LabVIEW Typecast really is similar to Flattened data but no
    prepending of the number of elements is done for variable sized data.
    And Typecast can't convert any type containing variable sized data, but
    any arbitrary complex datatype only containing fixed size data, or a
    simple array or string can be typecasted.

  • Problem reading data file (JDK1.3x)

    Here's what I'm trying to do:
    I want to read in data from a text file, parse it into records and fields and insert it into an oracle database.
    Info about the data file:
    I have an excel file that contains rows of data. Some cells can contain data (text) that has multiple lines and line breaks. This text data can contain commas, single quotes and double quotes.
    Using excel, I save this excel file as either a tab delimited or csv file.
    The problem:
    I use the following java code to open the file, and reads it's contents:
    String fileData = "";
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader( "filePathAndName" ) );
    StringBuffer contents = new StringBuffer();
    String line = "";
    while( ( line = br.readLine() ) != null )
    {   contents.append( line ); }
    br.close();
    fileData = contents.toString();
    //code to parse data goes here
    Remember, the file is delimited by tabs or commas. A record (an excel row) is delimited by a carriage return. A single value/field can contain multi-line text.
    The problem I'm experiencing is that using the code specified above to read in the data from the file, I lose all tabs, new lines and carriage returns, so my stringTokenizer/regular expression code to parse the data doesn't work correctly. In the case of tab-delimited files, the fields cannot be distinguished. In both file types, the last field of the previous record and the first field of the next record run together.
    It doesn't seem logical that java won't read in tabs/newlines/carriage-returns. Can someone tell me what's wrong? <I confirmed that the tabs/newlines/carriage returns exist in the text file, so it's definately something going wrong during the file reading process>
    Thanks

    Using the FileInputStream, is there anyway to read in multiple characters at a time, like a readline() function? I've looked at various buffered input streams and none of them seemed to have this function.
