Palm Desktop crashes moving a recurring appointment in month view

In month view in Calendar, Desktop 6.2.2 crashes when attempting to move one ocurrence of a repeating appointment.  Any fixes?
Post relates to: Centro (Unlocked GSM)

In Calendar - Edit Event - select a different date - OK and it crashes.  Normally I would expect a prompt asking whether to apply the changes to Current/Future/All but it doesn't get that far. This appears only to apply to events that are part of a recurring series and only when in month view and selecting the event in the "Daily" sidebar.  I will try not to do that in future!

Palm Desktop crashes on startup since I updated Windows XP (yesterday). Palm Desktop prompts me for password (as set up) but crashes immediately after that which invokes the odious Windows message: "Palm Desktp has detected a problem and must close - send message report?".   I already tried unistalling and reinstalling Palm Desktop without success. Does anybody have any pointers? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your data has been corrupted, possibly your calendar,
There is a few things to try.
    1. If your default calendar view is the month, I would do this step first. Change your date on your computer to two months in the future or past, then try to relaunch palm desktop. Let me know if it launches and I will tell you how to fix that.
    2. If your default calendar view is not the month, the do this step. Locate your user folder it is in my documents/palm os desktop/variation of hotsync id
Once you find the hotsync id folder. Grab that and move it to your desktop so it is no longer in the palm os desktop folder. Then try to relaunch palm desktop
Let me know if either one of these steps let you open palm desktop then we will go into fixing them.

  • Palm Desktop crashes when viewing one month in monthly view

Hi--this is a weird problem. Never seen it before.
--My Treo 680 (Win XP SP3), with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 seems to sync fine. I make changes in the Treo, it appears on the desktop.
--Also, I can view and edit the desktop in DAY view.
I normally default to monthly view though--and when I try to edit anything in a monthly view the Palm Desktop immediately crashes. This also seems to happen only with one month--July--where I recently added a lot of new appointments.
I ran the "check" tool for corrupted records, came up clean.
The data seems to be there and be safe and sync, but every time I try to access this one month from monthly view--it crashes.
    Any advice, suggestions?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

Your link generated an error message..but I did find a couple of relevant threads. Thanks..
--I have no appointments spanning midnight, so I presume that's not the problem
--I'm reluctant to downgrade versions. I use the same software on my Vista laptop as on my XP desktop and I'd like to confuse the issue or go through degrading both.
The dbfix program was more interesting.  It found for Calendar: one appointment in several places that it said "blob goes beyond end of record."
I don't know what that means, but it was particularly odd as this particular appointment was repeated in multiple years as long ago as 1969, it said--which goes beyond the ability of the desktop software even to access; certainly I wasn't using a Palm in 1969, and obviously it didn't exist. So I deleted all of them but for that 1969 one since the desktop will only go back to Jan 1970.
After deleting what I could delete on the desktop, I sync'd.
    Didn't help.
I ran the program again and the exact same older--presumbably fictitious-appointments from old years like 2007 were still coming up as checked errors. Hmmm. Apparently deleting them on the desktop helped not at all. So now I deleted one on the 680 as a test.
I sync'd. Immediately crashed the Palm, but when it came came back up. I doublechecekd--that 2007 record was now gone from everything, desktop and PDA. I syncd again,,,went through fine this time.
Ran dbfix again to check--just coming with that one 1969 inexplicable error.  Ran Palm Desktop now. Ran the Options/Tools/Check record on the desktop (included utility) just to be sure--no errors.
The final test--running Palm Desktop back in monthly view.  Immediately crashed again.
    Shrug!
Now, I don't mind buying the dbfix program if that'll do it, but does this seem like something it needs to go through and might actually fix, as opposed to my manually deleting the things?

  • Palm Desktop crashes on calendar 'month' view

I am running Desktop by ACCESS 6.2.2 on WinXP with AT&T Centro.  There are random months in my desktop calendar that cause the desktop to crash when I select the 'Month' view (June '08, April '07, Nov '08).  I can't find any common trend unique to these months, the 'day' and 'week' views work fine for these months.  I have searched this forum and found a couple similar symptoms but no real solutions.  I have uninstalled/re-installed Desktop, but no change.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Paul.

I've been having the same problem with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on XP with my Centro.  So I split up all the events that spanned midnight, as HardBeatZ suggested, and if fixed three of the six months that crashed.  I've also run dbfixit, as he suggested in another thread, which found no corrupted records.  Any other suggestions?  I saw in that other thread (http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&message.id=27310&query.id=29789) the idea of trashing the months and re-entering events, but that seemed to be a different problem with Vista.
I see the suggestion here by patkosanke to revert to 4.1.4, which is what I previously had for my Tungsten E.  What about all the warnings with my Centro that I had to install the included 6.2.2?  Are those warnings not true for XP?  And what about the change from dat to mdb files, if I were to revert?  Reverting seems to postpone the inevitable transition to Vista, though.
Also, it seemed to me that 6.2.2 had more fields for phone numbers, for which I reformatted bunches of my contacts -- previously I had doubled up on some, but that doesn't allow them to be dialed.  Is that a change from 4.1, in which case reverting might kill those fields, or is that possibly a change from my even earlier IIIx?
    Thanks,
    John S.

Ok if you remove your data from palm desktop does it still crash in the month view, also what months are crashing, I could possibly do a little research and tell you what days are causing the problem.

  • Corrupt datebook file - palm desktop crashes

I suddenly began having touble opening my palm desktop in Vista.  I downloaded the new version without improvement.  I then found this thread, which helped to some degree:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&thread.id=22183
I posted my problem there, but it maybe it is not getting viewed, so I will repost my problem here.  It looks like my datebook file is corrupt, and I don't know how to fix it.
Here is the whole series of events:
Based on the directions by HardBeatZ from the link above, I deleted the datebook and address files from my palm folder.  The desktop software then launched fine.  I put the memo app as default.  At this time I could access the (emtpy) address and datebook parts without problems. I then put back the address.mdb and datebook.mdb files and ran corrupted file tool - it didn't find any errors.  When I go to the datebook on the desktop, the program crashes.  (It goes to the addresses just fine). I deleted the datebook file again and renamed the datebook.mdb.bak file to be the datebook.mdb file. The program worked fine (could access datebook on desktop). I then hotsynched again....and crash city when going to the datebook.  I tried re-running the corrupted file tool wihtout success. What now? It seems like the current datebook file, when downloaded from my treo, is corrupt (works fine in the treo, btw).
The datebook backup file is about 1 month, old, BTW, but I use the datebook fairly regularly and would rather not lose the changes over the last month if possible.  Suggestions?

The next step is one that I normally wouldn't recommend, but I think in your case it might be necessary. Since you have everything backed up on one computer. Just delete everything that is in June on your Vista machine (you can do this by deleting everything on your handheld and syncing with handheld overwrites desktop) then see if June opens fine, if it does just manually put your data back in. I know it is a lengthy process, but I'm out of ideas

I was thinking of doing that, but wanted to see if you had any more tricks up your sleeve!  I compromised, and went through the my June events and deleted the ones I did not care about necessarily keeping.  I left the important ones.  I figured it was worth a shot - if things worked, I was done.  If not, I would keep deleting until the month of June was event-free....  I am happy to say, that one of those less important events must have been the problem, because now the desktop software works fine!

But every time I try to start up the desktop, I get a Windows APPCRASH box. Can anyone offer any suggestions where I should look? Many thanks!

  • Palm Desktop Crash when click the Month Tab or Media

I have a new Centro and have loaded the Desktop v 6.2.2.  I was running an older Destrop with my Tungsten but upgraded.
Since the upgrade, I get some strange behavior with the desktop.
First, when I open the calendar and then click on the month tab (in lower left corner), the system will either hourglass or will simply crash out.  This is consistent.  The other tabs work fine (Day, Week and Year), but not the Month tab.
Second, when I try to go into the Media function on Desktop, it will hourglass and never open Media.  I'm then forced to close desktop because the system is locked.  This problem is also consistent.
The last issue has to do with desktop system colors.  The older version of Destop offered different colors to indicate business, personal or other categories.  With 6.2.2 there are no color choices and everything is gray.  Where did the colors go?
So far I like the Centro, but have not been impressed with the new Palm Desktop at all....
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
PS---I'm using XP Pro Service Pack 3

  • Can't get my data out of palm tungsten c- palm desktop crashes

I have been a tungsten c user for many years. Now that HP has discontinued support, I would like to get my data out and transfer it to anothr device. I have backed up with hotsync on a daily basis. When I load palm desktop (PD), it crashes. I have 4 computers: a Dell 700 m with win xp, an optiplex with win xp, an optiplex with vista and a toshibal laptop with win7 64 bit. I have downloaded new copies of palm desktop 4.4, and tried the access version of 6 something. The desktop loads, waits 2 seconds, then I get the message .. has created an error and has to close. I checked, the MA file is there and seems to have the correct date. How do I get my data out if palm desktop will not start?
PS I disabled antivirus during installation, uninstalled the old version and rebooted before trying to open the PD.

Well I went ahead and made separate methods to return each value. I suppose that will work just as well, especially since now I don't have to declare a bunch of strings and int's to hold the data and pass to the method.
    >
Well this would never work anyway
public void getData(String n, int num, String c, String d)None of those can be changed within the method. Strings are immutable and 'int' is passed by value. Each of those parameters will have the same value after the method exits as they did before it was called.
Your book class should be using 'setters' to set the value of its instance variables.

  • Palm Desktop Crash - unable to sync with handheld PalmOne Tungsten E2

Hello, this may have been addressed before, but I am not sure.  A couple weeks ago I was in Palm Desktop when it just froze.  Once I got out of it, I found that about 99% of my calendar datebook had been lost.  I have tried to sync it again with my handheld Tungsten E2 to try to reinstall my info from handheld to desktop - but it just gets stuck on syncing the datebook.  I had a computer geek look at it and he was unable to help me.  I guess I could live without my former appointments and re-enter my future ones, but I can't sync anymore, it keeps hanging up at datebook.  Any suggestions?  I really appreciate your thoughts.....BTW I have a MAC with Vista installed through Bootcamp.

    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

    Hi,
Basically, the sync will stuck at Datebook when there are some corrupted Calender events on Palm device.
We have 2 options to fix this issue.
    1) Hard Reset.
    2) Use DbScan application to remove the corrupted calender events on Palm.
As many wouldn't like to do the hard reset as sometimes all the Calender events would be on Palm.
    Hence, I suggest DbScan.
It's easy to fix the issue.
First we have to set the DateBook to Do Nothing in the HotSync Manager window.
To get to the HotSync Manager window follow the below steps:
Right click on the HotSync Manager in the Windows System Tray(on the lower right corner of your computer) and click on Settings.
This will open the HotSync Manager window.
    And then click on Applications.
Make sure you select the correct sync user name in the HotSync Manager window at the top center.
    Double click on Datebook.
    check the box "Do Nothing"
And click on OK and Done button.
Now install the dbScan software from the below link.
    http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=2351
Download the software with Guest user name.
Double click the dbScan.prc file it will goes to Install Tool.
    Peform the sync.
This will install DBScan application on Palm.
Then, follow the below steps on your Palm device.
1.Tap on Dbscan application on the device.
If you see any message saying, it's an older version and you need to install a new version. Please ignore the message and go to next step.
    2. Choose the option other.
3.Press the menu button on the device.
4.From the options menu choose "Remove all the deleted records"
5.Now choose the option "Palm source".
6.From the options menu  again choose "Remove all the deleted records"
7.Now choose the option "Palm one".
    8. From the options menu choose "Calender DB Blob check".
    9.Tap on "Yes to all"
    10. Try performing HotSync now.
This will fix the Datebook sync issue.

  • Palm Desktop by Access Ver 6.2.2 crashes when I try to look at monthly calendar

There is an error with Palm Desktop. The issue is in a month before or a month after you have an event that spans overnight. To correct you would need to look for this event(s) and delete and recreate it so it does not span overnight.

  • Palm Desktop

I am having two problems that I can't seem to solve w/ Palm desktop.
First, I have the problem that when I view month mode in calendar my program quits.  Not every month.  Just some.  I looked on this web site and after that I made sure no appointments went through midnight.  Then I purchased and used Pimlico DbFixIt.  Neither solved the problem, nor did the normal things such as reinstalling program (many times over a day trying to solve other problems as well), but I reinstalled to fix, then just to reinstall, then I uninstalled old and reinstalled fresh.  Nothing worked.  Gave up...
Secondly, every time my computer goes into sleep mode my desktop alarm manager shuts down.  Actually it does not always shut down (sometimes it does, mostly it does not if my palm desktop is running when it goes into sleep mode), but otherwise it does.  I have checked my program but cannot find anything.
    I am running Garnet v. 5.4.7 on Tungsten E2.
OS on computer is Vista.  I have downloaded and installed PalmdesktopWin62.
This problem began after a massive problem with my datebook a couple of weeks ago.  Most everything was lost and I was able to retrieve most by going to my laptop where I had the desktop installed (mostly for backup purposes) and exporting the records and then importing them onto my desktop.  I spent a day working through a number of problems to get that done.  I had actually been having the problem of my desktop shutting down when looking at the month view for a week or two before that.  Since I don't use that view much, it may have been a problem for a much longer amount of time.
    Thanks.

Thanks, I'm working on the crashing program.  There are a couple of things I'm experiencing which are just weird.  I hesitate to ditch 6.2 because I was experiencing problems with my previous desktop after getting new computer and Vista.  I don't remember what version that was, probably whatever came on CD w/ pda.  But it worked w/out problems for quite a while.
I am still having the problem w/ the second item.  Every time my computer goes into sleep mode my desktop alarm manager shuts down.  Actually it does not always shut down (sometimes it does, mostly it does not if my palm desktop is running when it goes into sleep mode), but otherwise it does.  I have checked my program but cannot find anything that I could change.  But maybe I'm overlooking something.
Addition:  ALSO -- I just hotsynced my pda & the alarm manager crashed when I did that!

  • How to export Date book and Address book from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book?

I have my calendar information and addresses stored in Palm Desktop date book and address book, respectively. I am running Palm Desktop 4.2.1. Everytime I try to export the date book or address book to my desktop using the vCal format, the Palm desktop crashes. My goal is to export all my data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book on the Apple OS (10.6.1). Does anyone have any advice as to how I can do this or do I just have to start from scratch and manually enter the data from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book? I looked at the Missing Sync software, but I don't think this will do the trick. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store didn't offer any solutions either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello tay8000m and welcome to the Palm forums.
Have you tried running the "Repair Disk Permissions" command in Apple's Disk Utility application yet?  Launch Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" from the left side of the window, and then click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
After the utility has run, try launching Palm Desktop again and then exporting your data as vCard or iCal files.  If the exports aren't working for you, you can always export the data as comma separated values (.csv) file and then import that into the Apple apps you want to use.

  • Palm Desktop 4.1.4e vs. 4.1.4 for Centro

    In multiple threads, for example:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&thread.id=27899
it has been suggested to revert from 6.2.2 to 4.1.4e to work around problems, such as the Palm Desktop crashing on the monthly view for my Centro.  I thought I had managed to work around all occurrences of this by isolating and changing some random appointments, but another occurrence has me baffled.  And since 6.2.2 is missing things like color-coded appointments, repeating tasks, etc., it may be time to revert.
My question is that since I have 4.1.4 from my old Tungsten E, what is the difference between that and 4.1.4e?  The main difference I see is that 4.1.4 has the expense application (which I found useful and actually put onto the Centro, but haven't tried to sync) and the old media application, whereas 4.1.4e has no expense nor media.  So can I use 4.1.4 with the Centro, or will it corrupt data and/or device?
    Thanks,
    John S.
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

    Okay, thanks for explaining that.
Looking at the Tungsten E and the Centro, it appears that the additional fields on the Centro are:  picture, ringtone, a second IM, and anniversary (which didn't sync from the 6.2.2 software).  The 4.1.4 software has the picture and second IM, though, so the only one missing would be anniversary (and ringtone, which may not sync).  Now I just downloaded and installed 4.1.4e on a different machine, and I see no difference in the contact fields -- just the missing expense, note pad, photos, and voice mail applications.
I looked at the article cited in another of your posts:
    > For a more detailed explanation of these extended fields, visit:
and all of the fields mentioned were already on the Tungsten E and included in regular 4.1.4, without the E.
So comparing 4.1.4 and 4.1.4e, I see no difference in contact or any other fields...
    Thanks again,
    John
P.S.  In addition, the 6.2.2 desktop software has fields that are not mapped to the Centro:  prefix, middle, suffix, profession, assistant name and phone, and nickname.

Hope this is of use to anyone wishing to continue using their Palm M515 (or similar).
I am using the M515 with Windows 7 and have the HotSynch working fine.
    A) W7 Drivers
    - Download & Install "ACEECA Handheld Device Drivers" from "Access, Inc." OR "ACEECA International Limited"

    - Ignore the W7 error messages during Install.
    - Device Manager will report "This device cannot start. (Code 10)", but it will work perfectly.
    - The "device" will most likely appear as something like: "PCI bus 4, device 0, function 0"

Using "regedit" I was able to change the font size larger for use with the Palm Desktop software.
Run "regedit" and export (save) a backup copy for safety
        File  >  Export
      Search for "FontSmall"
Edit  >  Find  >  Find what  >  FontSmall
Click on FontSizeGeneral and change the "Value data" to 16
      Exit "regedit"
Run Palm Desktop software and enjoy the new legible font size!
      Notes:
      1) The location of the Palm Desktop software on my system using "regedit" is:
            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Core
            * Your location of the Palm Desktop software may differ.
      2) I tested this on monitors using resolutions of 1280 x 1024 and 1024 x 768
The font size is noticeably readable and much, much better
      3) You may also change the font family from the default (Arial) to another, such as Verdana, etc.
FontCard    (Changes the font family in the side panels)
FontGeneral    (Changes the font family for most of the program fonts)
      4) Operating System: Windows XP Pro
            Palm Desktop v4.1.4
    C) HotSynch Configuration
    - suggest you disable most of the sysnch options.
    - for 1st synch op., enable by default "Synchronize both ways". The Palm Desktop should prompt for username. Make sure you use the existing "user", ex "Paul" at the "input new user" prompt on Palm Desktop during the 1st time HotSynch. If you get it wrong, do not panic, you will create a new user and Synch all the same. Just repeat the operation with the correct name, verify the data is synched under both users, then delete the "duplicate".
    - After 1s Synch, set defaults for future Synch ops., ie. Synch Both Ways, or Handheld overwrites Desktop...et cetera. Think about how you use the Handhelp and where you generally input most fresh appointments and memos. Personally I "synchronize" both ways in order to no miss anything.
NB: The M515 are being given away in 2nd hand shops. They are cheap & easy to find & work great. I have a collection. When one breaks I Synch to the next and never lose data. Unlike various "Smartphones" which have a tendency to break after just one bump or "fall", get stolen or just die!
Long live PALM! Thank you for reliable products

    Thanks for this contribution, wobbly2010!
The m515 was a great device in its time!  I used to tether it to my cell phone via cable, and then place it into the Palm IR keyboard turning it into a portable "tiny terminal" as I used to refer to it.  Mobile internet!  What a concept...

  • Month View Bug in Desktop by Access

When I try browsing prior months in my palm desktop using month view, palm desktop crashes when I try to go back further than June, 2008; however, if I try to access periods prior to June using day or week view, I can view them without a problem.  My Centro does not seem to be affected either, and I've run Pimlico software to try to identify any bugs, but I can't locate any.  Since I don't use month view very often, I can't tell when this bug first emerged.  I installed a backup Datebook file (that was a couple of days old), but that didn't fix the problem.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

Then, synch was hanging up in Calendar.  Pushed cancel on Centro & HotSynch to no avail.  Respectively, pulled out battery, used Win task manager.
To correct synch problem, overwrote Centro from desktop.  After I did this, was curious, and tried to do the reverse.  Got hung up again.
Then got free version of DbFixit.  Told me I have a Datebook problem on 12/31/69  -- Centro calendar only goes back to 1/1/70! Care to explain?
DbFixit:  "Calendar DB-PDat: Last blob not aligned with end of record.  Rec=26. Date = 12/31/69"
Threw in towel & purchased the DbFixit version that self corrects.  I'll let you know if it helps or not.
    Regards
PS To Centro Marketing:  Not being able to print out a monthly calendar is, for me and probably many others, a real negative.
