Palm Desktop crashes when viewing one month in monthly view

Hi--this is a weird problem. Never seen it before.
--My Treo 680 (Win XP SP3), with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 seems to sync fine. I make changes in the Treo, it appears on the desktop.
--Also, I can view and edit the desktop in DAY view.
I normally default to monthly view though--and when I try to edit anything in a monthly view the Palm Desktop immediately crashes. This also seems to happen only with one month--July--where I recently added a lot of new appointments.
I ran the "check" tool for corrupted records, came up clean.
The data seems to be there and be safe and sync, but every time I try to access this one month from monthly view--it crashes.
Any advice, suggestions?

Your link generated an error message..but I did find a couple of relevant threads. Thanks..
--I have no appointments spanning midnight, so I presume that's not the problem
--I'm reluctant to downgrade versions. I use the same software on my Vista laptop as on my XP desktop and I'd like to confuse the issue or go through degrading both.
The dbfix program was more interesting.  It found for Calendar: one appointment in several places that it said "blob goes beyond end of record."
I don't know what that means, but it was particularly odd as this particular appointment was repeated in multiple years as long ago as 1969, it said--which goes beyond the ability of the desktop software even to access; certainly I wasn't using a Palm in 1969, and obviously it didn't exist. So I deleted all of them but for that 1969 one since the desktop will only go back to Jan 1970.
After deleting what I could delete on the desktop, I sync'd.
Didn't help.
I ran the program again and the exact same older--presumbably fictitious-appointments from old years like 2007 were still coming up as checked errors. Hmmm. Apparently deleting them on the desktop helped not at all. So now I deleted one on the 680 as a test.
I sync'd. Immediately crashed the Palm, but when it came came back up. I doublechecekd--that 2007 record was now gone from everything, desktop and PDA. I syncd again,,,went through fine this time.
Ran dbfix again to check--just coming with that one 1969 inexplicable error.  Ran Palm Desktop now. Ran the Options/Tools/Check record on the desktop (included utility) just to be sure--no errors.
The final test--running Palm Desktop back in monthly view.  Immediately crashed again.
Shrug!
Now, I don't mind buying the dbfix program if that'll do it, but does this seem like something it needs to go through and might actually fix, as opposed to my manually deleting the things?

In Calendar - Edit Event - select a different date - OK and it crashes.  Normally I would expect a prompt asking whether to apply the changes to Current/Future/All but it doesn't get that far. This appears only to apply to events that are part of a recurring series and only when in month view and selecting the event in the "Daily" sidebar.  I will try not to do that in future!

  • Palm Desktop Crash when click the Month Tab or Media

I have a new Centro and have loaded the Desktop v 6.2.2.  I was running an older Destrop with my Tungsten but upgraded.
Since the upgrade, I get some strange behavior with the desktop.
First, when I open the calendar and then click on the month tab (in lower left corner), the system will either hourglass or will simply crash out.  This is consistent.  The other tabs work fine (Day, Week and Year), but not the Month tab.
Second, when I try to go into the Media function on Desktop, it will hourglass and never open Media.  I'm then forced to close desktop because the system is locked.  This problem is also consistent.
The last issue has to do with desktop system colors.  The older version of Destop offered different colors to indicate business, personal or other categories.  With 6.2.2 there are no color choices and everything is gray.  Where did the colors go?
So far I like the Centro, but have not been impressed with the new Palm Desktop at all....
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
PS---I'm using XP Pro Service Pack 3

Palm Desktop crashes on startup since I updated Windows XP (yesterday). Palm Desktop prompts me for password (as set up) but crashes immediately after that which invokes the odious Windows message: "Palm Desktp has detected a problem and must close - send message report?".   I already tried unistalling and reinstalling Palm Desktop without success. Does anybody have any pointers? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your data has been corrupted, possibly your calendar,
There is a few things to try.
    1. If your default calendar view is the month, I would do this step first. Change your date on your computer to two months in the future or past, then try to relaunch palm desktop. Let me know if it launches and I will tell you how to fix that.
    2. If your default calendar view is not the month, the do this step. Locate your user folder it is in my documents/palm os desktop/variation of hotsync id
Once you find the hotsync id folder. Grab that and move it to your desktop so it is no longer in the palm os desktop folder. Then try to relaunch palm desktop
Let me know if either one of these steps let you open palm desktop then we will go into fixing them.

    Hi hg,
I didn’t found relevant settings in remote desktop connection manager, I checked the “Use multiple monitors when necessary” under tools->options, but seems like it is used for span a full screen over multiple monitors. For now I’d suggest figuring out
why your remote session keeps crushing.
I suspect the crash is not related to password changing, similar cases normally occurs after some local device driver, please try to disable the local printer in Remote desktop connection local resources first.

  • Palm Desktop crashes on calendar 'month' view

I am running Desktop by ACCESS 6.2.2 on WinXP with AT&T Centro.  There are random months in my desktop calendar that cause the desktop to crash when I select the 'Month' view (June '08, April '07, Nov '08).  I can't find any common trend unique to these months, the 'day' and 'week' views work fine for these months.  I have searched this forum and found a couple similar symptoms but no real solutions.  I have uninstalled/re-installed Desktop, but no change.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Paul.

I've been having the same problem with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on XP with my Centro.  So I split up all the events that spanned midnight, as HardBeatZ suggested, and if fixed three of the six months that crashed.  I've also run dbfixit, as he suggested in another thread, which found no corrupted records.  Any other suggestions?  I saw in that other thread (http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&message.id=27310&query.id=29789) the idea of trashing the months and re-entering events, but that seemed to be a different problem with Vista.
I see the suggestion here by patkosanke to revert to 4.1.4, which is what I previously had for my Tungsten E.  What about all the warnings with my Centro that I had to install the included 6.2.2?  Are those warnings not true for XP?  And what about the change from dat to mdb files, if I were to revert?  Reverting seems to postpone the inevitable transition to Vista, though.
Also, it seemed to me that 6.2.2 had more fields for phone numbers, for which I reformatted bunches of my contacts -- previously I had doubled up on some, but that doesn't allow them to be dialed.  Is that a change from 4.1, in which case reverting might kill those fields, or is that possibly a change from my even earlier IIIx?
    Thanks,

Ok if you remove your data from palm desktop does it still crash in the month view, also what months are crashing, I could possibly do a little research and tell you what days are causing the problem.

  • Corrupt datebook file - palm desktop crashes

I suddenly began having touble opening my palm desktop in Vista.  I downloaded the new version without improvement.  I then found this thread, which helped to some degree:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&thread.id=22183
I posted my problem there, but it maybe it is not getting viewed, so I will repost my problem here.  It looks like my datebook file is corrupt, and I don't know how to fix it.
Here is the whole series of events:
Based on the directions by HardBeatZ from the link above, I deleted the datebook and address files from my palm folder.  The desktop software then launched fine.  I put the memo app as default.  At this time I could access the (emtpy) address and datebook parts without problems. I then put back the address.mdb and datebook.mdb files and ran corrupted file tool - it didn't find any errors.  When I go to the datebook on the desktop, the program crashes.  (It goes to the addresses just fine). I deleted the datebook file again and renamed the datebook.mdb.bak file to be the datebook.mdb file. The program worked fine (could access datebook on desktop). I then hotsynched again....and crash city when going to the datebook.  I tried re-running the corrupted file tool wihtout success. What now? It seems like the current datebook file, when downloaded from my treo, is corrupt (works fine in the treo, btw).
The datebook backup file is about 1 month, old, BTW, but I use the datebook fairly regularly and would rather not lose the changes over the last month if possible.  Suggestions?

The next step is one that I normally wouldn't recommend, but I think in your case it might be necessary. Since you have everything backed up on one computer. Just delete everything that is in June on your Vista machine (you can do this by deleting everything on your handheld and syncing with handheld overwrites desktop) then see if June opens fine, if it does just manually put your data back in. I know it is a lengthy process, but I'm out of ideas

I was thinking of doing that, but wanted to see if you had any more tricks up your sleeve!  I compromised, and went through the my June events and deleted the ones I did not care about necessarily keeping.  I left the important ones.  I figured it was worth a shot - if things worked, I was done.  If not, I would keep deleting until the month of June was event-free....  I am happy to say, that one of those less important events must have been the problem, because now the desktop software works fine!

  • Palm Desktop crashes on startup

    Hello,
I am running Palm Desktop 6.2.2.0 under Win Vista, and have been for years. I have not installed any new software on either my Palm TX or my PC in weeks, maybe months. This morning I could open Palm Desktop just fine, this evening it crashes -- in MemoPad.dll. I ran DBFixIt but it finds no problems in my memos, and I can open all of them on my Palm. But every time I try to start up the desktop, I get a Windows APPCRASH box. Can anyone offer any suggestions where I should look? Many thanks!

  • Palm Desktop freezes when I do New Memo or Edit Memo

I have Palm Desktop by ACCESS 6.2.2 on my Win 7 64 bit machine.  Everything was fine for years until today.   Now when I click on New Memo or Edit memo the edit memo window does not show up. If I click anywhere on the Palm desktop the only thing that happens is the computer rings a bell.  I wonder if the edit memo did show up somewhere but is off screen and invisable. I did add a second monitor recently.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chas

I'd suggest a complete uninstall/reinstall of Palm Desktop.
Make sure you save a copy of your user directory.
Normally, user data does not get deleted, but one can't be too careful!
These instructions are for Vista but should work for Win7.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents --> Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step. If you are not concerned about your data at this point, skip the next step.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do with Palm Desktop from your computer. Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below. C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or PalmOne C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck hide hidden files.
When using Palm desktop 6.2, look in my documents or documents and delete the PalmOS desktop folder. This is the location of the PD 6.2 data files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box. Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen.

  • Palm TX crashes when WiFi is selected

I have been accessing the internet using the T/X  for at least 2 years.  Now each time I select WiFi, my Palm TX crashes.
If I have to do a hard reset to fix this, do I have to back up anything?  If so, please recommend a free one (I could not locate NVBackup on Sourceforge.net).  I have extra programs on the T/X that are not part of the original software.  If I do a synch after hard reset, will the extra programs automatically load?
Would also appreciate instructions for hard reset.  Thanks
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Ok, so I googled like a mofo looking for absolutely every single forum thread about "Palm TX WiFi Crash." Every time I tried to turn on the "WiFi radio" i.e. initiate a network connection, my Palm TX would reset. The issue was that I STUPIDLY!!!! installed various .prc files of random freeware programs I thought would be cool for my Palm TX.  After installing them, and trying them out, at some point one program tried to access my WiFi network and the thing crashed.  So I freaked out , because as soon as I tried to access WiFi with other programs (Kinoma, Mundu Radio, Blazer) the **bleep** thing instantly would reset.  I can't explain how bummed I was.  Absolutely bummed.  While a Palm TX is cool for various other uses, without WiFi the **bleep** thing is basically sent back to the stone age- like a powerful color game boy.  So I did what any proud parent of the kick @ss TX would do-  I spent hours looking into why the WiFi would fail.  I discovered the soft reset, the warm reset, the hard reset.  I backed up the **bleep** thing and started experimenting.  Someone told me that it might be a corrupted preferences file, that I should back up the TX and then erase it, see if in the "factory" state the WiFi would work.  The WiFi would not work even after I completely erased the product with a hard reset.  I was not happy to say the least, completely convinced that the wifi had just suddenly died due to some hardware issue, which I do not have the funds to repair!  So, thinking that the built-in ROM WiFi files had become corrupted, I found (full of excitement) that a certain genius by the name of Dimitri had created an enhanced Palm TX ROM file (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112779 / file: THIS) - Palm doesn't give you a ROM file without making you pay - Dimitri is a godsend! I followed the instructions and everything worked perfectly.
The first thing I did was open the "MAIL" app (built in) and try to access my GMAIL account.  It asked if I wanted to initiate WiFi, and for the first time it actually worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHH!!!! No freeze/restart.  Then I was so excited I could pee my pants man.  Now I did quickly wonder if just opening Mail and trying to access WiFi (i.e. through a Palm-sourced app) was the cure, as I hadn't tried to use the mail app when Wi-Fi was crashing, I was trying Kinoma etc...  Worth a try.  I can't truly say that using Dimitri's ROM upgrade was the cure, but everything worked out and I am so glad.   On an even brighter note, Dimitri's ROM upgrade come with NetFront 3 browser, which I hadn't heard of.  Holy crap!  It makes Blazer and Opera a complete joke.  Web pages load up instantly like on your computer, web pages look normal- then on top of it, the ROM upgrade includes "Drive Mode," a program that on my iMac allows the SD card in my Palm to pop up on the desktop like a thumb drive, makes the TX an SD card reader through the USB hotsync cable.  I wish I had discovered this ROM upgrade sooner, as I had already purchased Card Export, which is a wonderful program that does the exact same thing- only $10.00.  So if you have no problems with your TX I'd still recommend just using Card Export, but its a rare thing for a bad situation to revert to an improvement! After all this crap, my TX is much more stable with the ROM upgrade, WiFi works again, the browser is finally a really great browser, and I will not badmouth my Palm Handheld. I love the **bleep** thing!

  • Palm Desktop Crash - unable to sync with handheld PalmOne Tungsten E2

Hello, this may have been addressed before, but I am not sure.  A couple weeks ago I was in Palm Desktop when it just froze.  Once I got out of it, I found that about 99% of my calendar datebook had been lost.  I have tried to sync it again with my handheld Tungsten E2 to try to reinstall my info from handheld to desktop - but it just gets stuck on syncing the datebook.  I had a computer geek look at it and he was unable to help me.  I guess I could live without my former appointments and re-enter my future ones, but I can't sync anymore, it keeps hanging up at datebook.  Any suggestions?  I really appreciate your thoughts.....BTW I have a MAC with Vista installed through Bootcamp.

    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

    Hi,
Basically, the sync will stuck at Datebook when there are some corrupted Calender events on Palm device.
We have 2 options to fix this issue.
    1) Hard Reset.
    2) Use DbScan application to remove the corrupted calender events on Palm.
As many wouldn't like to do the hard reset as sometimes all the Calender events would be on Palm.
    Hence, I suggest DbScan.
It's easy to fix the issue.
First we have to set the DateBook to Do Nothing in the HotSync Manager window.
To get to the HotSync Manager window follow the below steps:
Right click on the HotSync Manager in the Windows System Tray(on the lower right corner of your computer) and click on Settings.
This will open the HotSync Manager window.
    And then click on Applications.
Make sure you select the correct sync user name in the HotSync Manager window at the top center.
    Double click on Datebook.
    check the box "Do Nothing"
And click on OK and Done button.
Now install the dbScan software from the below link.
    http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=2351
Download the software with Guest user name.
Double click the dbScan.prc file it will goes to Install Tool.
    Peform the sync.
This will install DBScan application on Palm.
Then, follow the below steps on your Palm device.
1.Tap on Dbscan application on the device.
If you see any message saying, it's an older version and you need to install a new version. Please ignore the message and go to next step.
    2. Choose the option other.
3.Press the menu button on the device.
4.From the options menu choose "Remove all the deleted records"
5.Now choose the option "Palm source".
6.From the options menu  again choose "Remove all the deleted records"
7.Now choose the option "Palm one".
    8. From the options menu choose "Calender DB Blob check".
    9.Tap on "Yes to all"
    10. Try performing HotSync now.
This will fix the Datebook sync issue.

  • Can't get my data out of palm tungsten c- palm desktop crashes

I have been a tungsten c user for many years. Now that HP has discontinued support, I would like to get my data out and transfer it to anothr device. I have backed up with hotsync on a daily basis. When I load palm desktop (PD), it crashes. I have 4 computers: a Dell 700 m with win xp, an optiplex with win xp, an optiplex with vista and a toshibal laptop with win7 64 bit. I have downloaded new copies of palm desktop 4.4, and tried the access version of 6 something. The desktop loads, waits 2 seconds, then I get the message .. has created an error and has to close. I checked, the MA file is there and seems to have the correct date. How do I get my data out if palm desktop will not start?
PS I disabled antivirus during installation, uninstalled the old version and rebooted before trying to open the PD.

Well I went ahead and made separate methods to return each value. I suppose that will work just as well, especially since now I don't have to declare a bunch of strings and int's to hold the data and pass to the method.
    >
Well this would never work anyway
public void getData(String n, int num, String c, String d)None of those can be changed within the method. Strings are immutable and 'int' is passed by value. Each of those parameters will have the same value after the method exits as they did before it was called.
Your book class should be using 'setters' to set the value of its instance variables.

My palm desktop application freezes when I open the calendar and try to go to date in 2009. Any ideas what this is all about?

Something set in 2009 is corrupt. Download DBFixIt from http://www.pimlicosoftware.com and search the forums for 'corrupt calendar entry' to find the instructions. The Palm OS Data Mangler Manager has a tendency to bug out sometimes. This is probably the the 10,000th time somebody has had a data corruption that causes their calendar/memos/tasks/[insert PIM app here] to crash.

  • Palm Desktop undo; When is it possible?

I have Palm TX and use Palm desktop(4.2.0). In Palm desktop there is undo icon and 'Palm Help' says undo does "Reverse the previous action, if possible". But I couldn't do any 'undo'(the icon is always grayed out). When is it possible? Thanks.

Here's an example. Go into Calendar and type some text in one of the time slots. The undo should be avail now.
