Palm Desktop error

I have been using PalmDesktop 4.2.1 with my MAC OS 10.4.9 for over a year with no problem. Upgraded to OS 10.4.11 and now get "file is busy" whenever I try to launch Desktop. I tried unistalling, reinstalling, un/reconnected cables, etc. No Luck. Help?

  • Help!!! Palm Desktop Error

    I just upgraded to Windows 7 and re-installed the Palm Desktop v3 from the CD. But it fails to open the Date Book database displaying an error message to that effect and the app doesn't launch.
    Do I have to run a HotSync operation first?
    The file had not been synced to the m100 in ages so the m100 was empty.
    Is there a solution?
    Thanks.

    Hello ELgambino.
     You can find my Transport Monitor clean up directions over in this thread.  You will also want to refer back to the Mark/Space website to find the directions to completely remove The Missing Sync for Palm OS software.  The clean up process should go like this:
    1. Remove The Missing Sync
    2. Remove Palm Desktop (don't delete your data folder in your Mac OS X User home folder)
    3. Reboot the Mac
    4. Reinstall Palm Desktop from the Centro software CD.
    5. Configure the iSync conduit
    6. HotSync.
    I would also backup your iCal data just to make sure that you have a good backup if the data is really important.

    Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is incompatible with older Palm handhelds.  You might try downloading and installing the free utility called PalmHotsyncSetup from www.pimlicosoftware.com

  • Getting Error: Invalid configuration. Terminating the Palm Desktop when starting Palm Desktop 6.2 by Access

    I have recently gotten the error noted in the subject line on my Tungsten E2 whenever I double-click the Palm Desktop icon.  Once I click the OK button I am returned to the desktop without entering the program.  I have installed the program and reinstalled the download from the Palm website several times (as recommended in a number of older posts) with the same results.  I have also checked to see that the User Account Control is turned on (which it is), as recommended in other older posts.
    My workaround was simply to run the program as an administrator and I was able to successfully enter it.  In addition I had to manually create the user folder in the Palm Desktop folder.  Everything now works OK as long as I run the program as an administrator.
    Has anyone found a solution that does not require running Palm Desktop as an administrator?

    My experience with Palm leads me to believe that if you are running  Windows XP Pro (32 bit version), you should be able to use the older version 4.1.4 Palm Desktop.  See the link:  http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/tungsten/e2/unlocked/solutions/article/37014_en.html
    Try the above.
    I used the above Palm Desktop on an older desktop PC I had that ran Windows XP Home.  The only reason I switched is that I began using a laptop that ran Vista which required Palm Desktop 6.
    If however you are running a Windows XP Pro (64 bit version), you may need the Palm Desktop 6.2 that you already have (on this I am not sure).
    Please note that the material I have mentioned is based upon my Tungsten E2 device.  If you have a different device take a look at the range of Palm Desktops available by device.  See the following link:  http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/tungsten/e2/unlocked/solutions/article/33529_en.html
    As far as User Account Control (UAC) is concerned it is more formalized with Vista, however a form is available under XP.
    See the following link:  http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=509  Note you will have to setup a separate administrator level user on your PC.
    I hope this was helpful.

  • Palm Desktop software - Fails to open with msg "Error: Failed to open Address Book database"

    In July 2009 I dropped my trusty Visor on a tile floor and it stopped working.  So, in the meantime I have been using only the Palm Desktop software.
    Just yesterday, when I attempted to launch the Palm Desktop software, it failed with the message “Error: Failed to open Address Book database”.  I think this error was caused by a very ungraceful shut-down of my Win XP system yesterday.
    I really do need to use the Palm Desktop software for my address list, calendar, and memo.  The problem is that the error with the Address Book database seems to be preventing the Palm Desktop software from initializing.
    I am using Palm Desktop 4.0.1 on Windows XP SP3.  I do NOT  have an export file of the Palm address book or other databases.  However, I do have five levels of backup history on my external Maxgor backup drive.
    Specifically, on my current c drive I have files in the directory:
    C:\Program Files\Handspring\WR\address
                address.bak                  5/16/2009   (from last sync before I broke Visor)
                address.dat                   5/24/2011
                Personal.ABA                11/6/2008
                Unfiled.ABA                   3/28/2008
    On my most recent backup of my system, there are the following files:
                            address.bak                 5/16/2009   (from last sync before I broke Visor)
                            address.dat                  5/12/2011
                            Personal.ABA              11/6/2008
                            Unfiled.ABA                  3/28/2008
    I have not listed the four older backup versions.
    I haven’t tried any corrective measures yet (I don’t want to make matters worse) and am hoping that someone can guide me along the right path.
    Is it possible for me to just rename the “current” address.dat file to something like address.SAV and then copy the Address.dat file file with date of 5/12/2011 into the current directory.  Will the software then just use the older version of the data, or must I do something else.
    I am grateful for any assistance.  Thank you very much.

    Thanks for the speedy response.  However, I read the article for which you provided the link, and I hve also read many other articles that I found via search, but I don't think these will help me.  All of these articles seem to assume that (1) you have a handheld to which you can sync and thereby rebuild the database on the PC, or (2) you have a backup that you created via the Palm Desktop export function.  Unfortunately, I have neither and so I don't think any of these solutions will work for me.
    I did read with great interest an article that stated that recent versions of Palm Desktop have a built-in function that will repair a corrupted Datebook database.  Will this also fix a corrupted Address Book database which is my problem?
    So, I downloaded and attempted to install the latest version of Palm Desktop.  I was careful to read the instructions that stated NOT to uninstall my current version of Palm Desktop, but to just install the latest version on top of my current Palm Desktop.  However, when I attempted to do the installation, the installer software said it could not install on top of my current software and that I should first uninstall my current software.
    I have some questions now:
    (1) If I uninstall my current version of Palm Desktop, will this destroy my Address Book, Datebook, and Memo databases ( I don't care about the ToDo database)?  If so, what can I do to preserve those databases?
    (2) Is there really a function built in the recent versions of Palm Desktop that will fix a corrupted database?  Is this an "automatic" function that will detect and fix a broken database or is this something I will have to invoke?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Palm Desktop Background Error

    I have been using the Palm Desktop software on my MacBook even though my Zire died long ago.  It has been working beautifully for years.
    Yesterday, after I restarted my MacBook, Palm Desktop did not restart and I got the error message "Palm Desktop Background Disc is full".  "Unexpected end of file".  My whole life is on the datebook as well as the address book.  I've tried everything I know to recover it.  It has to be on the computer SOMEPLACE.
    Does anyone have any suggestions on recovering?
    Thank you!
    Phyllis

    Just recently got my first Mac, and have been unable to install Palm Desktop because the Mac version hasn't been updated in years and is incompatible with the current OS.  So I'm not able to tell you where to go look for the data.  Have you tried using the Search function here?
    That said, in the PC version, if you don't periodically sync with a handheld, I don't believe the current data is automatically backed up to a folder where it can be restored.  I assume that is also the case with the Mac version, but I don't know.

    I had this problem as well. I solved it by using an old Palm Desktop download instead of the one that Palm is providing now. My old copy was provided as a zip archive and the single file in the archive was named simply setup.exe. I guess the only difference between my old file and the file that Palm provides now has something to do with the installation software (it may be InstallShield; I don't remember for sure). In any case, if you are having this problem you might be able to find a usable file out there somewhere.

    Hi,
    I've been trying to hotsync my palm to Mac laptop for a few hours everyday for  5 days now - I've visited all the forums, bought a new laptop (this was incidental rather than caused by the palm problem)
    ...At first I got the "transport monitor" missing error - I followed support forums' suggestions.  It didn't work.  Hotsync would not happen; and neither would palm desktop open.  i don't use any other programs to sync (not isync, not outlook, etc) Only ever use Palm for like 10 years now.
    This problem persisted in both my 3-yr old mac and the brand new mac-
    I also tried installing pam desktop  from the online palm support site.
    I've since re-installed palm desktop a few times and handheld says "hotsync operation complete" However, Palm Desktop will not open and I get this error -- "file is busy"
    Please please help - I've recently decided to allow my palm to rule my life again (we do international events and we're bringing in Australia's #1dj in a few weeks) --I'm desperate for a solution -

  • Error 1714: The Older Verison of Palm Desktop by ACCESS Cannot be Removed

    Hi Folks:
    Does anybody know what specific registry keys, files or directories must be cleaned up for this error to go away when installing Palm Desktop 6.2?
    Note that I had a previous version 4.1.4 that got damaged.   I've run Windows Install Clean-up as well as CCleaner, but neither seems to fix this problem.  I've also search through the registry trying to find any lingering "palm" key, and nuke those.

    Hi Aeisha:
    Oddly no, although I uninstalled PD 4.1.4 because several weeks ago I started getting a spurious error message that the PD was unable to read my configuration, etc.  I don't recall if I have saved the error.
    I will read the KB article and respond here.
    Interestingly, I did install the PD 4.0.1 for Hypervisor.  I gather it uses a different installer than those used by 4.1.4 and/or 6.2.

    Post relates to: Treo 700p (Verizon)

    Greetings and welcome to Palm Forums
    sounds like you may need to do a clean uninstall reinstall
    do you have all your data on the treo 700p if so hen follow these instructions as follows.
    Here are the "clean" uninstall instructions.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done,
    you will need to delete some registry keysfrom your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember.
     In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install,
    and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.
    Good Luck !!

    Your on the correct path by saving the data by renaming the files. But to resolve this error we need to remove the data all together. Since you no longer need this data if you just delete it then it should not matter. If Palm Desktop is giving this error but will not open I doubt that the data can be recovered in any event.
