Palm Desktop Hotsync Audio files

Is there any tools(like 3rd party program) to hotsync audio files(mp3 etc) from PC to Palm TX, like 'Media' under 'Palm Desktop'? Or it is not possible at all unlike the image or video files.
I know the audio files can be installed with 'Quick Install', but I want to synchronize the files with my PC.
I have the audio files in my PC under the various folders by artists/genders etc and want to keep the file structure same as in my TX. I can use Hotsync to add(= import) the folders of the image or video files easily so I don't need to re-categorise the files in the TX again. Therefore if I could hotsync audio files, it can save time and will be easier to manage the files(such as creating the playlists).
Thanks.

Ptunes on your TX can sync to Windows media player on your computer. (limited file support.)

  • Palm Desktop datebook data file

I've been a Palm user for 13 years.
A year ago, my trusty Z-22's battery died. So I bought a M500 online from one of Amazon's 3rd party vendors. It worked adequately, but with a number of glitches that I learned to live with. By July or so of this year, I noticed appointments randomly disappearing from my desktop Palm app. No rhyme or reason, past, future, etc. I kept many data backups and just kept putting those files back into the desktop.
Then Oct 1st, everything on the calendar disappeared. 13+ years of data, gone. Fearing it was the funky M500 (fortunately I did not sync after the data loss, so had the entire calendar on the handheld), I bought a refurbished Z-22 from an Amazon 3P. Uninstalled desktop software (saved all data files), downloaded the latest Palm desktop software I could find (v. 6.2.2), loaded all data files, back in business. Everything worked like a charm. For one month (I sync several times a day).
Nov 1st, entire calendar gone. So I looked a little closer. MS Office Access apparently installed a .dat file in the datebook folder with 108kb worth oaf data (the legitimate datebook.dat file is 1,308kb). Everytime I open Palm Desktop, that's the file that's altered. Erase it, it reappears everytime I re-open Palm DT,
I don't use MS Office Access, so I removed it. Open Palm DT, now a new 1kb UiPrefs.dat is created, even if I open DT by double clicking the real datebook.dat file. HELP! I must note that throughout this whole ordeal, the address book, memo, todo list were totally unaffected.
Vista Home Premium 32 bit. MS Office 2007.
    Thank you!

I haven't been able to hot sync with my handheld since I upgraded to Vista, so there is no backup on the handheld of any data.  Grrrrrrr!   I don't believe it.  I thought I'd read posts about other people backing up their data.
Is there any "cheaters method" to create a backup copy by changing where the data file is saved, then changing it back, or something similar, so there are always two copies?  I don't want this happening again, and I won't be able to upgrade my handheld for several months still.

  • Palm Desktop seems to back up only select data from Treo 650

I recently transferred my Palm Desktop program and backup files from my old XP PC to my new PC running Windows 7 (64bit).  Aside from the frustrations of being unable to HotSync using USB, I was more concerned that that address & calendar files in my user folder were nearly empty.   My calendar contained 14 random events from within the last month and the address book contained three contacts (my Treo contains hundreds).  Each folder should have contained considerably more data.  I went back to the original user folder on my old PC and the saved data was no different.  Although hundreds of events & contacts appear on my Treo and in the Palm Desktop, my user file has less than 1MB of data in those respective folders.
Can I conclude that my monthly HotSyncs have been faulty all of this time?  Or am I looking in the wrong place for my complete data.  Until I find a workaround the Windows 7 problem, I want to make sure all my data is at least present on the hard-drive (even though I can't HotSync).
FYI, this is where I found my skimpy data:   C:/Palm OS Desktop/(username)/address   and   C:/Palm OS Desktop/(username)/datebook     .   The Palm Desktop is Version 6.2.2
    Thank you!

An update to the above issue:   All of the datebook & address data IS present within the *.aba files within my user folder when opened via Microsoft Access.  However, when I import those files into Palm Desktop, only a small handful of events (28 out 5000+) and addresses (3 out 1000+) appear.

  • Palm Desktop - Quits Unexpectedly

I've been using Palm Desktop to sync my calendar only for years. Synced last night with no problem.
Came home today and tried to sync and while trying to sync the Palm Conduit Manager unexpectedly quit. Same error happens while trying to open Palm Desktop.
I've tried to uninstall/re-install Palm Desktop and associated files to no avail.
Anyone seen this problem in the past and know how to fix in.
I have installed no new software between the now, and the last successful syncing. My Mac is acting very much like a PC!

    Hi Erik,
First off your 1st phone call if your going to call anyone should be Palm...not Mac. Sounds like your Mac is working fine..its just the Palm dektop software that is acting up.
Before you do any of the following steps please make sure you have ALL your important data on your Palm / Computer backed up somewhere off the computer (CD / DVD etc).
Reinstalling the Palm software is a good bet but the installers do not remove some of the files that may be causing your issue.
Consider removing ~/library/caches, ~/library/preferences/com.palm.HotSync.plist and then trying again.
If that still doesn't help I would try running your sync on an alternate user account and see it works over there.
If it doesn't then I would HIGHLY suggest contacting palm.
If it does then you get to do the fun fun fun task of troubleshooting your library folder in the affected user account.
You can simply pull the entire ~/library folder out...but then your account will revert to it's factory state and you will need to put all your settings back in.

  • Now Palm Pre Plus, can I remove Palm desktop?

OK, newbie here.  I just switched (successfully) to Pre Plus on Verizon (from Treo).  All my data (contacts, calendar etc) is in Outlook.  I use Companionlink to sync Outlook-to-Google-to-PalmPre.  Works beautifully, all my data is in both Outlook & on my Pre & syncing back/forth.
My question is: I have never used Palm Desktop.  I used to Hotsync my Treo to Outlook.  Can I now remove Palm Desktop altogether? and remove Hotsync Manager?  any reason not to?  One of the reasons I want to get rid of old Palm stuff is that every time I have to restart my computer I get this irritating notice to register my old palm device.  I've always gotten it & want it to stop!  Assume by removing Palm Desktop & Hotsync it will finally go away.  Plus I just like the idea of cleaning house.
P.S. love this Pal Pre Plus.

sonnytris1, are you using Companionlink software?
If not, your question is OFF TOPIC, and has no place being in this thread.   Ask it in a new thread, or one that concerns your issue!

  • Palm Desktop Software Data Transfer

I have an iMac OS which is 5 years old.  This year I'm going to be buying the most recent iMac Desktop.
The only Palm software I make use of is my "desktop software" which I use as an all around replacement for the old day runners.  For instance, I use it's menu to put all my names & addresses in, keep a list of things to do there, under "memos" I have made categories in chronological order such as "computer stuff"; "legal", "medical" and there are about 25 categories there under which I write down important information that I refer to if I must.  And, of course I use it as a calendar such that when I make an appointment, it all goes on my current desktop software which I believe is 4.0.
When I asked the Apple salesperson if I could transfer all the data I had from this computer to my new computer, he was not sure that would work as it may not even be compatible anymore with the newer computers.  I rely on this information so much that I would not want to lose it.   IF there is no way to transfer all the info I  have in my Palm Desktop ... the only thing I thought I could do is write the info down, and re-enter it into some new application that is compatible.  Is there any application that I could use instead of Palm if I can't.  I'd rather just transfer what I have, and I don't want to lose the data when transferred.  I hope this makes sense.
I would want to transfer everything that I had on this computer to the new one if possible.  Please advise. How do I keep my data intact?
    Thanks

  • Issues uninstalling Palm Desktop software (v. 4.2.1)

I am having issues uninstalling the Palm desktop software (v. 4.2.1) from my computer and Palm Support is no longer able to assist me, claiming the problem is too complex and OS-related.
Basically, I wasn't able to remove the software using the built-in uninstall feature so I was told to attempt a manual deletion of all Palm-related files in Terminal. After doing a search for these files via Spotlight, I was given the following directions:
    >> On the Terminal application.
    Type rm.
Press Space bar on the USB keyboard.
Drag the undeleted files to the terminal.
    Press Enter.
Check if the file is deleted. If not, just click anywhere on the desktop and after a few seconds check if the file is deleted.
This method was mostly successful and I was able to remove most of the files that I wasn't otherwise able to from trash. However, several files still remain:
1 - In an original folder labeled 'Palm 00-08-43', there are two applications that cannot be deleted: 'Palm Support' and 'Palm Desktop'. Both seem to be applications based on their generic icon; 'Palm Desktop' indeed opens up as the Palm Desktop application (v. 4.2.1) but the Palm Support file
cannot be opened because it may be "damaged or incomplete".
2 - In an original folder labeled 'Palm', there is an unidentified 'Palm Desktop' file (4.4MB) that cannot be deleted in Terminal either. (By "unidentified" I mean, no default application is specified to open the document.)
3 - Also, when searching for Palm-related files via Spotlight, I get a result for an application 'Palm Desktop Background' whose file path is associated with the unidentified and problematic 'Palm Desktop' file mentioned above in (2). The file path is as follows: Palm>Palm Desktop>Contents>Resources>Palm Desktop Background.
None of these files (whether individually or their folders) can be deleted in Terminal for the same reason, which Terminal specifies as "a directory". I even tried creating a folder and dragging that folder with all the corrupt files into the Terminal application but to no avail. Also, I made sure to run the Disk Utility to repair and verify disk permissions during this process.
Can anyone help me figure out why those specific files or "directories" cannot be easily deleted? The problem sounds complicated so if anyone knows where I might be able to seek assistance, that would be helpful too. Thanks!

    iBook G4 14-inch SuperDrive (M9848LL/A)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

What problem are you trying to solve? If you want to remove all signs of the Palm desktop software, what I did was open up a finder window, and then I searched for "Palm" and deleted everything that came up, except the Palm folder in my Documents folder.
Until I finally divorced myself from using the Palm desktop software, I had to repeat this operation several times.
The Palm desktop software is absolutely horrible. I suggest you move to Missing Sync by Mark Space software or use Apple's built-in iSync and forget about the Palm desktop software. You can get Missing Sync online from http://www.markspace.com

  • File extension naming control. Hotsync vs palm Desktop (db or mdb that is the question :-))

I have been using a m125 for years now its time to upgrade. I am going to a treo 750.
I downloaded the current palm desktops(6.2.2) and hotsyncs (7.0.2) When i sy\nc with hotsync, it wants to make files with a "db" extension. When i edit files with the desktop it wants to use files with an "mdb" extension. I have to manualy rename the files back and forth in order to achieve sync.
question: is there a way to control which extension is used?. ive searched the registry with no joy.

Dorset:  once again, I am grateful for your effort to explain and provide explanation.  And, again, I was not asking for that kind of help, because I wanted to find a major source of documentation and troubleshooting, not trouble somebody to write a single possibly-relevant set of tailored suggestions.  Not to be ungrateful--but I must conclude that the only source of comprehensive information would be to dig into the source code.  Not likely to occur!
good news, the problem is Possibly Solved:
Yesterday I reverse-engineered the save-to location by making a single new entry in the blank recordless address book, saving that, exiting, and doing a global DOS search of the hard disk for a file of any name with that date and time.
Turns out Palm Desktop saved it to a new user name directory it created itself (where I hadn't been looking because I assumed it would be under MY user name) AND gave that saved file the name Unfiled.mdb, whereas I was looking for address.* on the first bunch of tries.  Double whammy: different folder, unpredictable file name.
So I deleted the bogus user name, imported an early-july backup copy of the address book (address.bak), and saved THAT out of desktop.  NOW it appears as a 3-Mb address.mdb file under the proper user name.  And it's looking hopeful: if I exit desktop, then re-run the program, the 2000-entry address book comes up without further ado.  Later I will screw up my courage and try to sync with my Tunsten.
Over the long term, I will be easing out of the Windows and Palm universe--I have too many other things to do than [for brevity and compaint reduction, this essay condensed by author to "that-sort-of-thing."]

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 won't read data file after IR synch with IIIC

I have Windows 7, an old IIIC, and Palm Desktop 6.2. Since I can use a USB with that combination, I synced with an infrared connection. The files made it to the Palm directory, but the desktop program won't read them. My previous version of Palm Desktop allowed me to search for the data directory, but I can't find a way to do so with 6.2. And, no, the older version wouldn't display the data, either, in spite of my specifying the path.
I'm so close! One more step and I won't have to buy a smart phone and pay a monthly fee to carry around my contact date. Please help.

Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is not an upgrade to 4.x!   It was designed to fix the things Microsoft broke when Vista was born.
It lacks many features that existed for many years in the 4.x versions.
I'd suggest doing a Clean Uninstall and reinstall your original version!

Have you messed with versamail on the device any? Sounds like you have configured an eas account on the device either accidently or intentially, you will have to delete that account before you can sync contacts and calendar to your pc.
Once you have configured versamail to sync any email account you have to have atleast one set up so you will need to set up a new email account either fake or real before you can delete the eas account.

  • In windows 7 I can hotsync with Desktop 6.2 but I cannot change mail hotsync to Outlook instead of Palm Desktop

    Can anyone help me?
    I have a new computer with windows 7 (64bit).
My Palm device is a Tungsten T5
I tried first to install Palm Desktop from the CD (to be able to switch to outlook sync). But this version will not install.
Then I installed Palm Desktop 6.2 and I am able to Hotsync (via bluetooth) between Palm desktop and my Tungsten.
For Mail, Calendar etc I want to Hotsync with Outlook. But I cannot get that working. Tried to install outlookconduiter, but doesnot work.
Probably I need some code which normally will be installed from the CD. But that installation will not work.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thank you in advance

    Post relates to: Tungsten T5

    Hello Alan,
Thank you for replying my message.
But I think I did not explain my problem good enough.
I will try to be more explicit:
I know that I don't need to install an outlook conduit. And I already am able to hotsync with contacts, tasks, etc. Only e-mail will not hotsync. The log says ok at versamail entry, but I did not find new mailmessages on my Palm handheld.
In my Tungsten I have setup an e-mail (veersamail) account.
On my old PC under XP I did setup (long ago) a versmail account seperatedly. When I tried to do the same under Windows 7 an error says: you must first install a Versamail conduit before you can setup a versamail account (on my PC)
But my versamail conduit is on the CD I got when I purchased my Tungsten T5. But installing from this CD is not possible under windows 7 (it hangs). When I identified I therefore installed Palm desktop 6.2, which does not include the Versamail conduit.
I did inspect the original CD but I cannot find anything of versamail. It is included in carrierfiles, I think. But I don't know how to extract and how to find the files I need for the versamail conduit.
    What can I do?
Only buy a new Versamail conduit??
Or do you know other ways to get the versamail hotsync working?
    Regards,
    Chris Beumer

    Hi,
I am unable to download hotsync manager for Palm desktop. The error message reads "the application config launch services has unexpectedly quit".
I am however able to download it as another user so the problem must be something in my folder? I have tried running disk utility and getting rid of any applications I am not using, to no avail. Click on the folder in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon and then open the folder Library, followed by Preferences. Move anything in the Preferences folder which looks like it may be related to your issue to the desktop; if the issue persists, create a new folder on the desktop and move additional files to it. After each group of files has been moved, check if the issue still exists, and continue this process until the problem file has been isolated or you've run out of possibilities.

I had this problem as well. I solved it by using an old Palm Desktop download instead of the one that Palm is providing now. My old copy was provided as a zip archive and the single file in the archive was named simply setup.exe. I guess the only difference between my old file and the file that Palm provides now has something to do with the installation software (it may be InstallShield; I don't remember for sure). In any case, if you are having this problem you might be able to find a usable file out there somewhere.

  • Palm Desktop Vista Loses Calendar Info and won't allow hotsync to replace it from Z22

For the second time in about a month, I have opened Palm Desktop on my Vista PC to find that the calendar is blank. All the information that was there is now gone. When I then attempt a hotsync with my Z22 (where that data is still intact), the hotsync hangs at step 2 of 12, which correlates to the second datebook sync in the log.
What I would like to know is: 1. What is the name of the data files that hold the sync info, and would trashing them allow a successfull hotsync? 2. Can .bak files be used in place of .dba files to replace the data? 3. What can I do in the future to avoid this issue?
