Palm desktop install - Vista

I'm trying to install the Palm desktop software on my new laptop, which runs Vista Home Premium, and its going through the install process, but it gets to the part where you have to Hotsync, and is not recognizing my device. The power light isnt even lighting up after i plug it in. The computer does say new hardware found, but fails when I try to install the drivers. Does anyone know how to fix?

Vista Home Premium?  Would that be the same 64bit version that I have?
This subject has been covered many times here on the forum.  64bit Vista has no drivers to connect via USB to any Palm device.
There are several sticky threads at the top of this section of the Forum that deal with workarounds for Syncing with Vista64.  The Centro can sync via BlueTooth to your laptop if it has a BlueTooth radio installed in it.  If it is not so equipped, a BlueTooth USB dongle can be purchased.

  • Palm Desktop Install Stalling

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and am having trouble installing Palm Desktop 6.2.  It went most of the way at least once, but now hangs when I run it as Administrator.  When I don't run it as Admin, it goes partway and then crashes abruptly.  Just winks out.
True confessions time:  I probably hosed the registry entries pertaining to Palm after one unsuccessfiul attempt to uninstall.  Any suggestions?
I've taken a go at installing Desktop 4.?? under WinXP mode but haven't made great progress at it yet.  That would be a perfectly fine solution, since I really like the color-coding that went away in 6.  My big concern is to get a Desktop running again [went from XP to Win7/64 recently when I had to rebuild my machine.  Life was good until the magic smoke escaped the processor.]
    Thanks!

I would use system restore to a point before you installed the 6.2. desktop. I would then put the Palm desktop version that came on your startup disk on the windows 7 64bit computer. Then you want to install the Aceeca 64bit driver that came out last month so you can cable sync on a windows 7 64bit computer. I have a TX and hotsync this way. The only caveat is when I install files, programs . I need to put them on the desktop and right click on them and choose install to palm from the drop down menu. They then install when you hotsync.

  • Create DBA files to export Centro Database to Another Mch with Palm Desktop Installed

    Hi:
How to I create a dba file of all the info on my Centro for export to another machine with the same Centro Access/Palm database.
    Thanks
    DS
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

"All the info"?  Or just the PIM data?
If you want to Export the database information in Contacts or the Calendar, use Palm Desktop's "Export" function.  Open Contacts, choose File/Export to save the info to a file.
This can then be "Imported" by the other Centro's Palm Desktop, whether on another computer, or another Hotsync User Name on the same computer.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 for Centro stopped working on Vista

I was having trouble and simply reinstalled, but to no avail.  It installs then, when I go to hotsync it gets stuck everytime at the calendar.  Also, when I try to open the desktop program it states "invalid argument encountered"  then eventually it says the program has stopped working.  Can someone lead me step by step through a solution?
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

    Dana,
Sounds like what was happening to me a few months back, right after I got my Centro.  I had a Palm Tungsten C before and already had Palm Desktop installed.  The new desktop installed over it.  I had a lot of trouble (much, much more so than with the original Tungsten install) with the phone.  I don't know for sure that is what created the synch problem, but after most of a day spent searching this forum I found a thread that appeared to deal with this problem.  It turned out it was some corrupted calendar files on my phone.  The post described how to download a program called "DbFixit".  It seems like there was a free version and then there was a more complete version at a small cost.  Search the forum to find more info on where to get it.  After downloading it to my Centro it ran through and reported on all the corrupted calendar entries.  I think it had an option to delete the corrupted ones automatically but I didn't trust this, so I wrote them all down as the program reported them.  Once that was done everything seemed to work.  I don't remember if after the clean up you are supposed to have the desktop overwrite the phone or vice-versa or just let them synch.  I think the instructions were on the DbFixit website.  Hope this helps.

  • Cannot install Palm Desktop - Z22

The Z22 Palm Desktop installtion program hangs up while "removing applications" on a Windows XP Pro SP2 computer. Palm chat was unable to help and there are a lot of questions regarding this issue on the Web but no answers that work. Any help in getting this Z22 Palm Desktop installed is truly appreciated.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Thanks for your suggestion. The original attempt to install the Z22 Desktop failed in the "removing applications" step and actually removed Palm Desktop from the Add or Remove Programs list. Palm chat had me rename some folders and delete some hive keys but the problem continues. The removal process seems to be the hangup. The program cannot remove the older version of Palm One and it cannot proceed to a point where it can install the new software. I searched for a way to install the new one without attempting to remove the old one but i couldn't find any solution like that.
    Thanks again.

  • Can't Open New Palm Desktop On My PC

I downloaded the new update for the Palm Desktop for Vista users. It worked fine since I downloaded it, except for a WI-FI problem that I'm still trying to correct. Just yesterday, I cannot open Palm Desktop. When I try to open it on my PC, I get the following message, "Palm Desktop by Access  application has stopped working". This happened after I installed some music from my PC to my T/X. I don't think I did anything else. I can still Hotsync, I just can't open Palm Desktop. I thought of re-installing Pal Desktop, I even down loaded the ZIP installation file, but I thought better and will wait to see if anyone has any advice.

    Post relates to: Palm TX

I solved my own problem. Not sure exactly which step did it, but it worked. By reading all of the Help Forums along with the Windows Vista Problem Report and Solutions, I was able to determine that it was the date book causing the Palm Desktop to not open. So I followed what I read in the Help Forums for several other problems. That is, in my PC, I went to documents/Palm OS Desktop/(my device name) and there, I renamed the backup and the datebook. I then deleted the entire Palm Desktop from my computer. Then I re-installed Palm Desktop by Access from a fresh download. Before running Hotsync, I changed the datebook setting to "Desktop overwrites handheld". I then Hotsync'ed. Then I re-installed Holli-dates. My TX worked and I was also now able to open Palm Desktop. I did lose the few dates in my date book that I had saved but it is no big deal since I got the TX for Christmas and didn't have much loaded anyhow. After Hotsync'ing  a couple of more times, I went back to my Docuements/Palm OS Desktop/(my device name) on my PC and deleted the renamed backup and datebook. Everything is working fine now.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software and Palm Desktop v6.2

I am a happy new Blackberry so far, but have come across something that is very annoying.  I am attempting to move the data off my Palm TX, but the Blackberry Desktop does not recognize the version of the Palm Desktop software that I am using.
    What is making this difficult:
It appears that I have an unsupported version of Palm Desktop (at least from Blackberry's perspective).
I do not have the option to go to an older Palm Desktop version.  Older versions do not run on Vista.
    I do not have Outlook.
    Any thoughts?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, I finally got my Palm data transferred.  First, I was pleasantly suprised that Yahoo actually does have support for the Task List, which was the only thing I thought it was lacking.  I performed a sync of my BB with Yahoo and saw that a test entry of each type was uploaded to Yahoo and vice versa.  Therefore, my problem was then a matter of getting the Palm data up to Yahoo.
Approach 1:  Use the Yahoo Sync tool with the Palm Desktop.
Result:  Didn't work.  Yahoo Sync doesn't support Palm Desktop 6.2.
Approach 2:  Save the Palm data to an archive file and use the Yahoo Import tool.
Result:  Didn't work.  The file format for Palm Desktop 6.2 was not supported by Yahoo.
Approach 3:  Dig a flaky notebook out of my workshop and install an older version of the Palm Desktop.
Result:  I got the Palm Desktop installed, then noticed that this notebook had Outlook on it.   I synched my Palm with Outlook, then installed the Yahoo Sync tool.  Performed a sync and all my Palm data was sucked up into Yahoo.  Went back to my Vista machine and ran the BB sync and all the Yahoo data came down.
    Finally!
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Corrupt datebook file - palm desktop crashes

I suddenly began having touble opening my palm desktop in Vista.  I downloaded the new version without improvement.  I then found this thread, which helped to some degree:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&thread.id=22183
I posted my problem there, but it maybe it is not getting viewed, so I will repost my problem here.  It looks like my datebook file is corrupt, and I don't know how to fix it.
Here is the whole series of events:
Based on the directions by HardBeatZ from the link above, I deleted the datebook and address files from my palm folder.  The desktop software then launched fine.  I put the memo app as default.  At this time I could access the (emtpy) address and datebook parts without problems. I then put back the address.mdb and datebook.mdb files and ran corrupted file tool - it didn't find any errors.  When I go to the datebook on the desktop, the program crashes.  (It goes to the addresses just fine). I deleted the datebook file again and renamed the datebook.mdb.bak file to be the datebook.mdb file. The program worked fine (could access datebook on desktop). I then hotsynched again....and crash city when going to the datebook.  I tried re-running the corrupted file tool wihtout success. What now? It seems like the current datebook file, when downloaded from my treo, is corrupt (works fine in the treo, btw).
The datebook backup file is about 1 month, old, BTW, but I use the datebook fairly regularly and would rather not lose the changes over the last month if possible.  Suggestions?

The next step is one that I normally wouldn't recommend, but I think in your case it might be necessary. Since you have everything backed up on one computer. Just delete everything that is in June on your Vista machine (you can do this by deleting everything on your handheld and syncing with handheld overwrites desktop) then see if June opens fine, if it does just manually put your data back in. I know it is a lengthy process, but I'm out of ideas

I was thinking of doing that, but wanted to see if you had any more tricks up your sleeve!  I compromised, and went through the my June events and deleted the ones I did not care about necessarily keeping.  I left the important ones.  I figured it was worth a shot - if things worked, I was done.  If not, I would keep deleting until the month of June was event-free....  I am happy to say, that one of those less important events must have been the problem, because now the desktop software works fine!

  • Palm Desktop transport problem

Has anyone tried to install Palm Desktop (specifically the version for the Palm TX) on a MBP?
I've tried multiple times & get 'transport' errors each time.
I actually sync w/ Missing Sync, but I think that you have to have Palm Desktop installed first?
    MBP 2.0/2GB RAM/120GB HD   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You do not need to install palm software in order to get missing sync for palm os up and go. Just copy your (hopefully backup palm user folder) back and install missing sync.
    BTW:
This procedure applies to PPC. I will receive my MBP on or before 24th, so I can't tell if missing sync will work on MBP right now.
If not there is a solution to come as a Intel compatible version of missing sync version 5 was announced by mark/space (for end of march though).

  • Tool for synchronizing multiple Palm Desktops across a network

Hello, I'm new to this site but it seems as though if there's an answer to my question it's here so I'm diving right in.
I have my handheld set up to synchronize with multiple computers.  I have a home desktop, work desktop, and laptop, each of which has Palm Desktop installed and knows how to sync with my handheld. Syncing any one of the PD installations is easy -- I've been able to get it to work over a variety of methods and am very happy with that.
The problem is that if (as happens frequently) I make some changes to the data on my laptop, then later some changes on my desktop, and then finally some other changes on my handheld, the only way to get all the systems in sync again is a series of hotsync operations driven by the handheld.  (Three in that case.)
What I'd like to be able to do is synchronize the two PCs directly, so that I only need the handheld to be involved in the process once.  I know there are tools to get PD to sync with other software like Outlook.   Are there any that sync PD with PD?
    Thanks for your help!

Hello fruitbat and welcome to the Palm forums.
As far as I know, there are no tools from Palm or any third-parties that will sync the Palm Desktop PIM databases between two computers without the handheld being involved.  Palm OS 5, Palm Desktop, and the HotSync Manager, where never intended to be network applications.

  • Palm Desktop Freezes Computer on Installation

Hi. I'm trying to install the latest Palm Desktop on my Windows XP system (I am an administrator) and the install program freezes every time I attempt the installation. It reaches either the Registering Product or Modifying Registry stage of the installation before freezing my computer. I can only fix this by powercycling. Occasionally, when I have restarted the computer, the program appears to have been installed, but when I try to run it, it crashes at the splash screen. Other times, the program appears to have not been installed. I'm at my wit's end here. What can I do?

  • Palm Desktop Installation Problems

When I tried to open my Palm Desktop to sync my Tungsten E, I found that the program had become corrupted and would not open.
I decided that the best way of overcoming this problem was to download a fresh copy of Palm Desktop from PalmOne and re-install. This did not work, as the install kept stopping and a pop-up window would announce that a newer version of Desktop was already installed.
I then tried to un-install whatever remained of Palm using the Windows Add/Remove Utility but it kept telling me that there was a Network problem and would not Un-install even though we are not connected to a network.
Today I learned of the free RevoUninstaller utility which I downloaded, installed and ran. It identified a considerable number of leftover pieces of Palm files, keys, etc. which I allowed RevoUninstaller to delete.
This appears to have eliminated the issue of the "newer version of Desktop is already installed". However, during this new install, while the Palm Desktop InstallShield Wizard is installing "Registering Class Servers", I now get another error message as follows:
Error 1401. Could not create key.
    HKey_Users\S-1-5-21-299502267-1123561945-839522115-1006\software \Classes
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
This is a single, home-based computer with two Users and not connected to a network. Can anyone help me sort out this problem.
    Thanks, Frank
    Post relates to: Tungsten E

Thanks for your suggestions. This whole problem started when I was unable to open Desktop and sync my Tungsten E. It appeared that the program had been corrupted. So I tried to uninstall and then reinstall using the downloaded the Desktop software (Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0) from PalmOne. I kept getting error messages so I followed some of the instructions that I found on previous postings on this forum.
I tried to uninstall the previous version listed on my computer (Version 4.1.0420) using the Windows Add/Remove Programs. This was unsuccessful as it would not uninstall.
I then edited the registry and deleted all evidence of Palm as suggested in the instructions. This also did not fix the problem.
I then downloaded the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility  and ran that to try to uninstall Version 4.1.0420. - This was again unsuccessful.
Then I tried to Install (Run) the downloaded "PalmOne Desktop Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0" software again, the Palm Desktop Install Shield Wizard opened started the installation procedure and an error message opens that states "A newer version of  Palm Desktop is already installed". After clicking OK on the error message, Wizard terminates the installation and the page changes and instructs me as follows: "InstallShield Wizard completed. The Wizard was interrupted before Desktop could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again. "Click Finish to exit the Wizard".
Of course, running the installation again resulted in the same installation problem.
I then did some research on uninstallers and decided to download and install the free utility RevoUninstaller, and ran this utility.
RevoUninstaller identified 153 files, folders, keys, etc. from Palm which I subsequently agreed to delete. The program inserted a Restore Point before deleting all.
I then tried to Install Desktop again from the downloaded software PalmOne Desktop Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0 as I don't have a PalmOne Desktop CD. I did not get a CD when I purchased my Tungsten E new about 5 or 6 years ago.
During the installation of files, the Palm Desktop InstallShield Wizard gets to Registering Class Servers, stops and puts a new error message: Error 1401. Could not create key. Hkey_Users\S-1-5-21-299502267-1123561945-83952 2115-1006\Software\Classes. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
    I have several questions,
    Did I delete too much?
What is this Hkey and how can I have access to it?
Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thanks for your anticipated help. Merry Christmas.

  • Installing Palm Desktop 6.2 on Vista Business: only installs Media and Install, no Cal, Contacts

I attempted to install Palm Desktop 6.2 under Vista Business on top of Palm Desktop 6.2 beta. I selected a complete install.  After the installation and the device sync, only the Media and Install sub-applications were available on the desktop (though all were still available on the handset).  No Calendar, no Memos, no Contacts, nothing.

Thanks, I very much appreciate the help.  But why does this happen?  I mean, after I tried it,
I figured, okay, maybe if I change the security permissions no the executable so that my id
has full control...  But no.  I did that (also changed the permissions on the link), but when I
bring it up under my account without running it as Admin, it still brings up only the media
portions of the Desktop.  Then I went through c:\Program\Files\Palm and gave full control
permissions to my id for every executable I found in the top level directory.  Still no joy.
I do appreciate the help -- it certainly beats not being able to access my calendar at all --
but I'm afraid I have to call this more of a workaround than a fix.  For one thing, I'd like very
much to be able to access my calendar from a userid on this machine that does not have
Administrative privileges.  Any chance for a fix at any point in the future?
    Thanks again!
