Palm desktop, or XP application for OS 10.9

What is the best way to run the Palm desktop application on my Macbook Air with OS 10.9?  I have not been able to find a Palm desktop that will run on my Macbook directly and I assume I have to install an XP orperating system to run the Palm desktop.  I am not sure how to do that.  Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Which version of Vista?  32bit or 64bit?
Your only solution to sync with 64bit is via the Infra-red (IR) port on your Zire31...

  • Palm Desktop 4.1.0 for Garmin iQue3600

I have my Garmin iQue3600 synced with Palm Desktop version 4.1.0 which works fine with Vista but I can't use Help.  My iQue is dying and support has been totally discontinued, so I bought an iPod Touch to use as my PDA.  (I don't want a smartphone). How can I transfer my calendar, contacts and memos?   I thought to sync the iQue with Outlook2007 since I can't figure out how to export/import from Desktop to Outlook, but how do I do that?  I don't have a choice what to hotsync with- it always goes to desktop. Thanks.

You will need to have two things. First is an upgraded version of Palm Desktop, located here: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/32991_en.html. This will give you the option to pick for Outlook during install. In this case I suggest that you pick Palm Desktop still. Reason is you need another piece of software that will allow you to sync to Outlook 2007, located here: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/8716_en.html. Then you can go to Start-->Programs-->Palm or PalmOne-->PIM Conduit Sync-->sync with Outlook. Then you should be able sync to Outlook.
Once this is done I suggest that you keep your data in Palm Desktop still due to if there is any missing data you still have a backup. After some time you should be all set to remove Palm Desktop and work with Outlook.

  • Expense app for Tungsten T3 & Palm Desktop?

I have an old Tungsten T3 which serves me well.  Recently I started using the Expense app (v. 4.5.1P) that comes with its Palm OS (v.5.2.1).
I noticed there was no Expense app on the Palm Desktop which I am running under Windows XP SP2.  So I re-downloaded the latest version of Palm Desktop for the T3:  version 4.1.4e.  That's the latest version that the palmOne Website said was available for the T3 and Windows XP.
If I click Palm Desktop » Help » About Palm Desktop » Version » General, I see, in the Files pane, "Expcn20.dll (not found)".  I guess this .dll is the one for the Expense app.
On another posted thread, Expense Tracking missing desktop 4.1.4, I note that the Expense app exists for Palm Desktop v. 4.2.  But the palmOne Website told me the latest version for my T3 and Windows XP was v. 4.1.4e.
    Questions:
Has anyone tested Palm Desktop v. 4.2 on the Tungsten T3?
Is the Expense app available on the cd-rom version of Palm Desktop v. 4.1.4e?  (which I don't have)
Is it possible to somehow download Expcn20.dll and add it to installation of Palm Desktop v. 4.1.4e?
Any other suggestions?  (not including "Buy a newer handheld", because I'm a poor student  )

The Palm Desktop which is available for free download from the Palm Support site, version 4.1.4e, is a generic version in that it is useable for a variety of devices, but does not have all of the desktop applications (i.e. Expense, Media).  That's because not all handheld models come with all of those applications, and the downloadable version is really intended to be a backstop for basic synchronization only.
To obtain the Expense application for your desktop, you would need to use the original installation disc for your device.

  • Can't Open New Palm Desktop On My PC

I downloaded the new update for the Palm Desktop for Vista users. It worked fine since I downloaded it, except for a WI-FI problem that I'm still trying to correct. Just yesterday, I cannot open Palm Desktop. When I try to open it on my PC, I get the following message, "Palm Desktop by Access  application has stopped working". This happened after I installed some music from my PC to my T/X. I don't think I did anything else. I can still Hotsync, I just can't open Palm Desktop. I thought of re-installing Pal Desktop, I even down loaded the ZIP installation file, but I thought better and will wait to see if anyone has any advice.

    Post relates to: Palm TX

I solved my own problem. Not sure exactly which step did it, but it worked. By reading all of the Help Forums along with the Windows Vista Problem Report and Solutions, I was able to determine that it was the date book causing the Palm Desktop to not open. So I followed what I read in the Help Forums for several other problems. That is, in my PC, I went to documents/Palm OS Desktop/(my device name) and there, I renamed the backup and the datebook. I then deleted the entire Palm Desktop from my computer. Then I re-installed Palm Desktop by Access from a fresh download. Before running Hotsync, I changed the datebook setting to "Desktop overwrites handheld". I then Hotsync'ed. Then I re-installed Holli-dates. My TX worked and I was also now able to open Palm Desktop. I did lose the few dates in my date book that I had saved but it is no big deal since I got the TX for Christmas and didn't have much loaded anyhow. After Hotsync'ing  a couple of more times, I went back to my Docuements/Palm OS Desktop/(my device name) on my PC and deleted the renamed backup and datebook. Everything is working fine now.

  • Palm Desktop Software crashes immediately upon opening

    Hi All,
My Palm Desktop software won't open.  When I try to open it (either w/ the icon or the start menu), I see the Palm Desktop logo, then the program seems to open but all I see is a whitescreen, and an almost immediately error message from windows that reads "Microsoft OS Desktop Application has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  Then the only option I have is to click "close," and the program closes out.  So its impossible to open the softare.
Interestingly, the hotsync operation still works.  The desktop application just won't open.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but still the problem persists.  I have read a few places to remove the US Robotic registry keys, but after looking them up using REGEDIT off the Run menu, I can't find them....maybe I am not doing a complete uninstall, and am not completely removing these keys?  Does anyone have a comprehensive list of registry key locations?  Or maybe its a problem with windows?  I am using Vista.  I tried a system restore back to a point in time when the Palm Desktop was working, but even after that I had no luck.
Does anyone have a suggestion of what I should do?
    Thank you!
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

If this is your first Palm device, you will not see registry keys for either USRobotics or PalmOne. These entries are relevant to users who have upgraded devices and installed newer versions of Palm Desktop over older installs for the old devices.
There are a number of threads posting complete uninstallation directions; use the search function (up top when you exit this thread) on Registry and you should be able to find one or more of them.

I have a Z22 and am running Access version 6.2.2 on a PC with Vista.
When I move from Day, Week or Year to Monthly view in the Calendar, I get the "Palm Desktop by Access Application has stopped working" (and then the Windows message saying they are checking for a solution, which they never seem to find).

    Thanks.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Thank you, aeisha_anis for the steps to correct this problem.  I verified that I must have corrupted calendar data as the PALM Desktop does come up and work when I follow your first 4 steps and remove the data from it.  I can't, however, get through the importing step at the end of your instructions.  I've tried a few times and am afraid I may have messed up the data file as it now is only showing a datebook. mdb and a datebook.bak file under the DateBook folder I copied to my desktop, but no datebook.dab folder as it was showing before and I never did find the datebook.dat file you mentioned.  I still have all of my current calendar data on my Palm Centro but I can't get it to sync with the Palm Desktop without getting the "Palm Desktop by ACCESS Application has stopped working" message.  Do you have any ideas on how to fix this problem?  Thanks much!

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 update won't open after installing on PC running Windows XP

I just installed the new version of Palm Desktop 6.2 on my Dell laptop running Windows XP Media Center to upgrade it from the older version and it won't open up. Whenever I try to open the application the message "Palm Desktop by ACCESS Application has encountered a problem and needs to close..." I've tried reinstalling the application but that doesn't help. I've also tried using the "Repair" of the installation to "Repair installation errors in the program." and it hasn't helped either. All my data on my Palm Centro is still there but I can't get Palm Desktop to open up. I want to get Palm Desktop to open up.

Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is not an upgrade to 4.x!   It was designed to fix the things Microsoft broke when Vista was born.
It lacks many features that existed for many years in the 4.x versions.
I'd suggest doing a Clean Uninstall and reinstall your original version!

  • Palm Desktop by Access will not sycn with Android using CompanionLink

I formerly used a Palm Treo but I am now using a Droid phone.  I have been using CompanionLink to sync the info between my Droid and the Palm Desktop, but recently experienced some problems with the Palm Desktop.  It began with Palm Desktop not opening and giving me the error message, "Palm Desktop by Access application has stopped working."  I was unable to perform a sync, so I uninstalled Palm and then reinstalled it.  I can now open Palm Desktop and sync my Droid with it; of course since I did a reinstall, all the info was gone from Palm Desktop.  I performed a sync, and the message on the CompanionLink box says indicates it was successful, but only a few days worth of the calendar and none of the other information appears in Palm Desktop.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get Palm Desktop working correctly again so that it shows all the information I am trying to migrate there from my phone and will sync properly in the future?
    Thank you.

Just in case it is not clear...  that post was made after I bought the bluetooth adapter and tried following the advice provided in the Vista 64 Hotsync solution found! post.  Again-- my statement of not working is for the following reasons:
    1) my PC tells me that the sychronization completed with errors.
    2) when I look at the log that the Backup sychronization aborted.
    3) It almost invariably tells me that it Failed to backup 1 file(s) and that file is "NetworkProfiles2" through a "Protocol Error: Unknown error. (6410)"
    4) many of my contacts (over half) duplicate during this synchronization.
    5) many of my appointments (over half) duplicate during this synchronization.
The information about creating a virtual serial port on my PC comes from my actual palm itself.  The palm info is in the HotSynch verbage and it tells me to contact my computer manufacturer.  In doing so however they have no idea how to do this and Palm does not either.  I am still working with HP on trying to resolve that part of it but I am thinking from the hours of research that Palm wants me to create another COM port but again the help I am finding on this is beyond my pay grade so to speak...  you can check out the following link and try to help me if you like:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms885792.aspx
So... any ideas my friend?  It appears that some Vista 64-bit users are having success with a bluetooth synch but I have tried emailing those that claim to have been able to do this with no luck.  I am not having any luck (I hope my outline above is clearer)-- and no one has seemed to had any luck recently.
I would love to make this work-- I bought this phone for this functionality.

Has this ever been resolved?  It looks like it's 5 months old and I don't see any replies.  I saw this and immediately thought of the DEP(Data Execution Protection) feature that is a characteristic of Windows Vista.  If you go to your control panel,to system, to advanced system settings, and then click the settings button in the performance section, the DEP is the third thumnail to the right(should be the last one there).  This is where you can turn it on or off and add programs for it to ignore.
However, usually when it's the DEP that kills a program unexpectedly, the operating system has usually made it known to the user that it was the DEP.

  • Windows 7 palm desktop

I have been running Palm Desktop (File version 6.2.2.0) on a Gateway (64 bit system) with Windows 7 Home Premium-Service Pack 1 and syncing with a Palm Centro.  Everything was going fine until a couple weeks ago when the Palm Desktop software quit working.  The initial logo screen comes up briefly then goes away and a Windows error message appears "Palm Desktop by ACCESS application has stopped working.  A Problem caused the program to stop working correctly. . . ."
Is there a fix for this?  Thanks for any help you can give.

Throughout the years, Windows updates have been notorious for breaking the operation of Palm Desktop.
You will most likely have to do a Clean Uninstall to rectify the situation.
These instructions are for Vista but should work for Win7.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents --> Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step. If you are not concerned about your data at this point, skip the next step.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do with Palm Desktop from your computer. Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below. C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or PalmOne C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck hide hidden files.
When using Palm desktop 6.2, look in my documents or documents and delete the PalmOS desktop folder. This is the location of the PD 6.2 data files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box. Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your Palm desktop and do a hotsync. If it asks you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 crash.

I recently moved from a Dell desktop (windows XP) with Palm Desktop 4.1.4 for my Palm Tungsten E2.  I have had a Palm handheld and desktop software since before 2000 (back then on Mac) so I have much calendar and contact info I desperatly need to refer to and keep and never had any problems with either the handhelds, the desktops or the synch.
My new laptop is a HP G61, with Athlon II dual-core M300 2.0ghz running on Window 7 (64bit) which so far has been a dream to use.
I first installed Palm Desktop 6.2 on/about Jan 3rd.  It came up ok, and I then proceeded to sync with my handheld via bluetooth (as many features were again removed from this new version).  For the next few days all went well with the basics but 2 add-ons no longer working (DocsToGo and Worlmate).  Then I start up the desktop on friday morning (Jan 8th) and there was no Calendar, Address Book, Memos, ToDo, etc...  The only thing the desktop sofware was offering me was Media (said missing 2 files to operate properly) and Install.
I tried re-installing over it, then i removed it (using uninstall) and re-installed, then i uninstalled + deleted any folders/files with palm in it and re-installed.  Still only gives me those 2 icons and the Options menu gives me no other choices at start-up either.
