Palm Desktop to iPhone/IPT--beware!!  DST, hour off!

I happily and easily transferred several years of Palm calendar entries to my iPod Touch 2g back in December. I've now discovered that, since the switch to daylight savings time, they are all off by one hour!
So, appointments for 1:40 are now 2:40, etc.
Fortunately, I received a call from a dentist's office to confirm an appointment-- and lo behold, my Clie/Palm had the time right, but the time was now an hour later in my IPT! Not good!
Not sure what the fix is here... but it's definitely something for everyone to watch out for.
Now, I'm going to have to double-check, scan all the calendar entries in iCal and see what needs to be changed.
I thought others might appreciate being alerted to this problem/issue!

Sadly, I don't think this will help. There seem to be issues with the way iCal interprets imported .ics file data and hands it off to the iPhone during an iTunes sync. So, appointments derived from another calendaring program (e.g. Outlook), exported from there and imported into iCal, show correctly in iCal but one hour off on the iPhone. This applies to appointments that were created prior to the DST time change; appointments created/exported/imported/synced after the time change are correct.
Further, it's specific to the iPhone sync since the appointments do display correctly in iCal. Naturally, I have correct settings for time zones, time zone support, etc. Further, this issue does not apply to appointments created directly in iCal.
There are also issues with the way iCal handles some imported data. I started a thread on this in the iCal forums some time back, but got no responses.

  • How do I transfer my data from Palm desktop to iPhone?

How do I transfer my data from Palm desktop to iPhone? I just gave up my Treo 755p in favor of an iPhone. How do I transfer my Treo data (contacts, calendars)

I believe that when you boot your computer for the first time and you are following the onscreen instructions you are prompted whether you want to transfer data from an old mac or PC. If you click 'transfer from an old mac' and follow the onscreen instructions, this may work.
If you have already skipped this step you could use iCloud to transfer data. If you make sure that everything you want to transfer is synced in iCloud, this may also work.

  • Palm Desktop to iPhone???

Hi Everyone! Complete NEWBIE here. Just bought my long awaited iPhone and love it. However, I have a problem. Anyone know how to get my iPhone to sync with my Palm Desktop software w/o using Outlook? I work for the County and they provide me Outlook for work. We have to sign an agreement not to use that for anything other than work related issues. I have been using a Palm Treo 650 and Palm Desktop software for my contacts and scheduling for my private business for years now. I am looking for solutions. Thanks in advance for any help. BTW, the iPhone rocks!!!

Do you have a personal computer? If so, just install Outlook on it. There are several companies that offer software that will sync Palm Desktop with Outlook. Or change your syncing from your Palm to Outlook. Switchsync is a desktop tool that will switch syncing your Palm between Palm Desktop and Outlook.

  • IPhone calendar is two hours off from mac calendar

events on iphone are two hours earlier than events on mac calendar even after syncing

How bizarre. Mine is doing this too, except it's 3 hours off. I showed up to work 3 hours early because of this. Time zones are the same on my computer and my phone. I'm not sure what the deal is.

  • IPhone calendar sync two hours off from iCal - Can I fix?

I purchased an iPhone 3G today, this is my second one. Since my last phone, I now have a new MacBook Pro with iCal.
When I performed the Sync today, everything was fine except for the times in Calendar, which were two hours later on iPhone. The time zones were the problem, as the iPhone was set to Cupertino (Pacific) and the computer was set to Memphis (correct zone).
Now, I have corrected the time zones on both and I have performed a new Sync and checked the box to replace information from the calendars on the iPhone with the information from iCal.
However, the times are still off.
    1. Can I fix this issue?
    2. Can I delete the iPhone calendar entries as a whole and start over and re-Sync?
Thanks for the help. It's a minor issue, but it's pretty annoying and I have tried everything I know to fix it.

  • Any new info about being able to sync my iphone 4 with the Palm Desktop on macs running snow leopard?

Any new info about being able to sync my iphone 4 with the Palm Desktop on macs running snow leopard? Why doesn't someone take a a few hours and write a workaround so I can sync all my info including my Palm notes to my iphone via Palm Desktop without putting it in the clouds or making it complicated?  : (

I feel your pain.  I am a long time user of Palm Desktop/Claris Organizer and have an iPhone that I really can't sync except by doing an export and import into iCal, etc.  You might try Missing Sync.  I have been working intermittently with writing a replacement for Palm Desktop, but I've only gotten as far as dumping out the information for everything (except repeating appointments) as an XML file.

  • Palm desktop to ical to iphone

call me clueless, but i cannot figure out how to export my calendar (or my contacts) to an apple application that can then up synched with the iPhone. when i choose export in palm, neither iCal nor address book show up as an option.

For the contacts what I did was to export to my desktop from the Palm (T|X, and In Palm desktop for Mac 4.2.2) using the Address option for Module and the vCard option in Format.
For my date book (in monthly) I exported to my desktop in vCal.
Then I imported the contacts to my address book on my iMac as group labeled "contacts." These I them copied to my iPhone during the sync process.
For the date book I imported them directly to my iCal on my desktop and them synched them with my iPhone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Palm Desktop replacement for Mac and iPhone?

Since Palm Desktop is no longer in active development, is there a Palm Desktop replacement for Mac and iPhone?
    http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/33219_en.html#mac
I mean, a single application (not a bunch of them like Address Book, iCal etc) that works on Mac (desktop) and that can sync with the iPhone. Including all data from the current Palm Desktop:
    1. Address List
    2. To Do List
    3. Memo List
    4. Date Book
    Thanks.

If only Apple did something like that (all-in-one-application personal organizer with contacts, memos, calendar, to do lists, etc)
Well, they offer all those functions--Mail has Notes and To-dos show up in both Mail and iCal, plus Address Book. Clearly someone made the fundamental decision that separate integrated programs were better than an all-in-one, so I wouldn't expect an all-in-one from Apple in any foreseeable future. But you can send a feature request, if you like:
    http://apple.com/feedback
What would be interesting---and may exist, I haven't looked---would be if a third-party used the open access to iCal/Address Book info to build an all-in-one that integrated with Apple's separate apps, which could provide seamless iPhone/OS X integration while still letting people have the unified interface. Postbox uses Address Book but I didn't see any calendar/notes features in my quick check. Lots of apps build better replacements for Apple's individual programs--BusyCal, I think a Mail replacement, etc---but nothing unified that I've heard of.
However, my point was that you may be better off grabbing Entourage 2008 while it is still available than waiting for Outlook 2011, which is going to be a different program. Sometimes features go backwards, and Missing Sync compatibility may change or be delayed with Outlook 2011. I don't see the advantage of hanging onto PD until the very last minute.

  • Two iPhones? Beware of sync!

For the second time in as many months, my wifes' contacts have been merged with mine on my iPhone. I sync them both to the same (Windows) computer but under separate user accounts and separate Yahoo address book accounts. This just shouldn't happen. Thankfully, this time the opposite has not happened: my contacts merged with hers on her iPhone. This is really lame. I just had to spend an hour scrubbing my contacts to remove hers from my Yahoo address book and my phone. The fact it takes four "touches" to delete a contact on the phone makes this excruciating...I have 750 contacts! Please, Apple, get a grip, and give me reliable, secure sync and backup...and some documentation as to what gets synced to where and when.

I'm thinking that if I turn off sync, my contacts won't be backup up, either. And, I would like to have the same contact info in Yahoo address book as I have in my phone. I just want my contacts in my address book in my Yahoo account, and her contacts in her Yahoo address book. I don't want hers and I don't want her to have mine. I asked for help on this topic before, and was told (correctly) that the phone backs up to Windows Address Book. And sure enough, both sets of contacts were merged in WAB and available to whichever one of us was logged on. This is really, really insecure. I thought I solved that problem by just encrypting the .wab file but now I have this problem.
I do make sure only one user is logged on to Windows before I sync, or just use iTunes in general. I know iTunes is squirrely if more than one instance is running in Windows at the same time.
The paradigm I'm most familiar with is the Treo and Palm Desktop. Contacts are synced to PD and I have the option of exporting to Yahoo Address Book. But PD will not run if another user tries to access it, so it's secure. And contacts can be edited within PD so the user knows exactly what is on the phone and what will result from a sync. And I had the option of overwriting PD with the phone info, or vice versa, in case they got out of sync. Don't have that with the iPhone. And there is no documentation that I'm aware of to tell me what is being synced and where, so I won't be surprised to see all my contacts on someone elses' phone.

  • DESPERATE: How to transfer my Treo 680/Palm Desktop info into my new 3GS?

Hello, so I finally bit the bullet and made the switch from my beloved Palm environment to the iPhone. Been on the Palm since they first came out. Yes, PalmDesktop (on 4.2.2. for the Mac) is awful and ugly and out of date, but it's where all my data is. (Trust, am upgrading my Mac when I can, just not the year for that expense too, sadly.)
And I am now up that migration creek of **** I thought I would be.
I have over 3,000 contacts in my Treo, with 300 memos, and a huge calendar dating back to Feb 2000 (no joke). It's like a life diary to me, I want to import it all. My work IS my contact list, so I need to import all 3,000 of them, with all their notes, categories, etc. into my new 3GS.
I am not sure how to do this. Desperately need some hand holding on this import.
Am on a Mac so I don't have Outlook.
Do I have to get everything into iCal and Address Book? How? Has anyone done this and preserved categories?
Do I shell out for Missing Sync and start there? (Anyone used this method?)
My friend and I tried iSync a long time ago and it doesn't preserve the categories, etc. so that isn't an optimal solution.
Am reading a bit online about people transferring from Palm into Google, and then the iPhone? That's a whole other ballgame. Thoughts? How to?
I am so lost. Been online for three hours and have no idea which way to turn.
Here's the desperate part: am leaving for Europe Saturday am, and need to make sure my contacts are in my phone, otherwise I have to drag the Treo along too so I have my data! Ridiculous.
    Has anyone done this transfer?
I'd be so incredibly grateful for guidance.
    Thank you!!!!

    Here are your options:
    1. Export from Palm Desktop and import to iCal and Address Book Instructions are here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/pre/migration/exportical.html
The downer is that this will lose your categories in Address Book, I think.
    2. Get Missing Sync here:
    http://www.markspace.com/products/palm/palm-sync-software.html?source=pickerpalmosmac
    3. Sync the Treo to Address Book and iCal, then connect the iPhone and sync from AB/iCal to the iPhone. Instructions here
    http://askville.amazon.com/Palm-Treo-700p-sync-Mac-OS-iCal-Address-Book/AnswerVi ewer.do?requestId=2508818
Number 3 is your best bet - it should retain all the categories etc. However, doing this in a hurry is a recipe for panic. My advice is to try 3 first. If you can't get it to work, try 1. Although that might lose categories, it gets everything onto the iPhone, and the iPhone's built-in Spotlight search will enable you to find people, events etc really quickly. And it's easy and quick. Later on, when you have time, you can try something cleverer.
    You don't need Missing Sync

  • Exporting Calendar and Palm Desktop Quits

    No device
I am planning on saying goodbye to my Palm after 3 devices and at least 10 years of loyalty.  On Thursday, I'll be ordering an iPhone.  I have already exported my Contacts to Address Book, no problem.  But when I try to export my calendar to iCal (in a vCal format) it starts exporting and then the entire program quits.  I spent over 2 hours with Palm Chat Support last night.  We did a clean install of Palm Desktop.  Still can't do it.  I have DBFixit on my phone.  I ran that and it still doesn't work.  I have a lot of information on my calendar.  Could that be the problem?  I would hate to have to hand transfer all of my information onto my new phone.  Does anyone have any ideas?

  • How can I sync my Address Book and ICal with Mac and PC with Palm Desktop?

I now have the IPhone and I love it!!! But I have some issues and need help please. I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. In the PC I use the Palm Desktop Version 4.1.4 and I have there all my contacts (more than 1,100), all my date book (since 1998) and all my memos (about 600). I want to see what would be the best way get rid of my Palm Handheld and have only the IPhone, but I have encountered some problems and many steps. Everyday I have to sync the Palm Handheld at work, then sync the Palm Handheld at home with my Mac (using The Missing Sync, but it takes a long time every time), then sync the IPhone. Can you please help me??? How can I sync my data from my PC (Palm Desktop) with the IPhone? Another, thing; I do not want to use Outlook at work because the information that I want to sync (Palm) is my personal data and I want to keep using the Palm software for that.

    aflores48,
Unfortunately, the iPhone is not designed to sync with Palm software. As stated in the minimum system requirements, the iPhone can sync with Outlook (2003, 2007 or Express) on a PC, or with iCal and Entourage on a Mac. If you do not want to use Outlook on the PC, you can sign up for a free Yahoo account and sync with Yahoo Address Book. Yahoo Address Book can be used to sync from PC or Mac. More information on the minimum system requirements for the iPhone can be found here:

More information about syncing the iPhone with your computer (including Yahoo Address Book) can be found here:

    Hope this helps,

  • Contacts and Calendar not synching. (Centro, Windows XP, Palm Desktop 6.2.2) Please help!

I originally posted on the Hotsync forum, and it was suggested that I post my question here.  Important information:  My office uses Microsoft Outlook Exchange, and I have my Centro set up to get my emails.  It also wants to sync my contacts and calendar; however, that is completely unneeded for my purposes.  I need to synch my Contacts and Calendar with my Palm Desktop.  If there is something I have to check or uncheck to do so, please tell me how.
    This is my original post:
"When I hotsynch, my memopad, my documents to go, everything seems to synch except my contacts and calendar.
After a few hours on the phone with tech support at sprint, we went for the nuclear option, hard reset, and the temporarily solved the problem, but now it has returned.
    Information that might be important:
I'm getting a failed to backup 1 file error>PmTraceDatabase>Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened (4004)>SYNCERR_FILE_NOT_OPEN.  This may or may not be relevent.
Anyway, I appreciate any help with this.  I depend on this PDA phone to keep me organized and there's a slight and embarrasing touch of panic to how I feel now that it is not working correctly."

Okay, I'm continuing to do research on this, and here's my suspicion, maybe true or maybe false.  When I set up versamail to get mail from my office's exchange server, it also configured my contact list and calendar to sync as well, and synching with the the exchange server and synching with my desktop software are mutually exclusive.
If this IS true, then hopefully there is a way to set it up so I synch my email only with the exchange server, and leave my contact list and calendar configured to synch with my desktop software.
Any feedback or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
