Palm IIIc recharge problem

I found my Palm IIIc, and I got it recharging for a bit, but now when I try to recharge it, I put it on the cradle, it says that it recharges, but the light is not on and I have tested, without the light, it doesn't recharge. I'd like to use this Palm IIIc again. I have tried all the resets.
No, I'd like to keep this Palm.
Post relates to: Palm IIIc

If you have tried all resets including the "in-cradle" reset which supposedly resets the internal charging circuitry, then it seems to me you are facing a hardware problem...either internally with the Palm (i.e. the connector is bad or the battery is a goner), or the charging cradle and/or AC adapter are bad (seems unlikely, but possible).
Sending the IIIc in to Palm for repair is a bad option (like, $150 for out-of-warranty repair). You can spend a bit of money for a new cradle and/or AC adapter, and if that doesn't do it, spend more money trying to replace the battery yourself (go to www.pdaparts.com ) with no guarantee in either case that you'll fix it.
By the time it's all said and done, you might easily spend nearly what it would have cost you to buy something new...or, if you really like the IIIc, a replacement IIIc on eBay.
Bottom line: You might luck out with a new cradle/charger...or replacing the battery yourself might be successful, and fun to try at the same time if you like tinkering. But as the commercial says, "you can pay me now, or you can pay me later."

  • Trying to sync Palm IIIc with Powerbook

I have been trying to sync a Palm IIIc with my Powerbook which is currently running Tiger (I cannot run OS 9 at all).
I bought the IIIc on eBay and it works flawlessly except for the fact that it won't sync. I can click on the hotsync square on the screen of the IIIc and get two options :
    1. Direct Serial
    or
    2. IR (Infrared) to PC/Handheld.
It came with a cable that has the docking connection on one and and a dual splitter on the other - one lead has the serial (female) end and the other is a USB connector. I am able to charge it on the PB using the USB but likely only because it is a powered USB port.
I have tried two different serial to USB adapters and so far, the Powerbook still is not seeing the IIIc.
A friend is giving me a cradle from his old IIIe but it has a serial connection. I expect I will have the same problem with this cradle.
Does anybody have any suggestions ?
Is there an adapter that can be used with OS X/Tiger ?
I have installed Palm Desktop 4.2.1 and have iSync.

    Hi,
I have the same problem with my IIIc and powerbook G4 (no syncing with isync).I went ahead and bought the keyspan serial adaptor and still can't get the palm to sync. I also have desktop 4.2.1, running Tiger. I can get the palm to Hotsync with a PC via the standard serial port as well as the Keyspan serial adaptor to usb.

  • Palm IIIc - Trying to sync with Entourage on a G5 Tower

I am certain this issue has probably been ansewered in the past, but I would like to know the process I must follow in order to sync my Palm IIIc with my Entourage contact list.
Also, I would like to know how to send programs down the line to this device.
I tried to use the instructions I was directed to by Palm's web site. But, I keep getting the following dialog box:
    Application Launch Failure
The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4<HotSync Manager><HotSync Manager><HotSyncLib.PPC>"
I used to use this device with my old G3 iMac. I bought the USB kit so I could use it then and it worked like a champ. It has not been used in a few years. I took it out the other day and thought I would use it again. But, this problem has me perplexed.
I am running Tiger (OS X ver. 10.4.3) on my G5 (single CPU 1.8GHz "late 2004") with 1.25 GB of RAM.
I probably need to update the OS version on the Palm IIIc. But, until I can get the communications working, that is academic.
If someone who has lots of experience with syncing devices like this could provide me with a sequence of events I must follow in order to make this work, I would really appreciate it.
Like I said earlier, I would like to be able to sync my Entourage contact list and appointment schedule with this device. Also, I would like to be able to download Palm software from my G5 to the handheld.
    Thanks!

    I had Entourage configured incorrectly.

  • Palm IIIc and Mac OS 10.5.8

Trying to resurrect a IIIc that has set idle for at least 5 years. First question, doesn't seem to charge.... red light comes on and goes off after a few minutes of time in cradle, so it probably needs a new battery? Second question is: when changing battery, will I loose all files and info previously stored on the Palm when I disconnect battery? THird question,: I used to sync up to a Mac OS of 9, no longer have the Mac due to a home fire, will I be able to eventually hookup to a MacBook running 10.5.8 and do I need new software for this system? Thanks for any help.....

I have an older Palm IIIc that has worked beautifully for many years. The battery still holds a charge. Then suddenly I press the power button and it will not boot up.  I have recharged the battery and checked connections. Finally tried a reset but still nothing. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hello tinaolea and welcome to the Palm forums.
Your Treo is stuck in a reset loop.  To break out of it, you will need to hard reset your Treo.  To learn how to reset your Treo, please read this Palm KB article.  To reload your data and applications on your Treo after the hard reset is performed, simply sync your Treo to your computer and select your existing HotSync ID.

  • Palm IIIc - is there any validity left?

I'm trying to resurrect this old model and make it work for my current purposes, though I'm having more than some trouble getting it to do what I want.
Basically, I'm just curious if anyone knows of any solutions to these problems:
    1. I need a note-taking program - something better than memopad - that I can type notes into, draw the occasional doodle (schematic drawings for schoolwork), and finally has the ability to transfer everything back to XP in a format I can edit/print.  Is there such a piece of software out there?  Can a guy still get it?
    2. If such a piece of software exists, it likely won't work on OS 3.5.3, and while I've been searching for a way to legally upgrade to 4.1, I've been running into wall after wall.  Is there a way I can get my hands on this OS?  Am I actually on the right track in believing that this OS will work on the Palm IIIc?
If I can make this good old IIIc work for me, that will make me the happiest Electronics Engineering student out there.  If I have to upgrade, I guess I have to upgrade, but I'm willing to give this IIIc a chance - it'll surely be less expensive to make it do what I want to do then to buy a new one, plus a keyboard, extras... etc...
Thanks for reading the long post guys - I hope some of you can help!

I'm not very familiar with the IIIc but have you checked out Diddlebug? It supports 3.5 and is free.
    http://diddlebug.sourceforge.net/
As for a better memo pad (I know you didn't ask but I thought I'd suggest it as well), check out PSMemo, which supports  3.5 as well.
    http://jove21.com/palm/palmware/psmemo/
As for converting or transferring the file over to XP, you are really stretching it.  The best I've found and use is Suntzu's MemoManager.  Not sure if it will support 3.5 (doubt it, but it's worth a try).
You may want to get a screen capture program to capture the screen of your device and then transfer the image over.  There's Screenshot Hack (not free)

Wow.  Took me a while to rack my brain thinking of what to suggest.  Hope it helps

  • Using Palm IIIc with OS 10.4.5 on Powerbook

    Hi,
I just purchased a Palm IIIc on eBay but am now realizing that it may have been a mistake.
All I want to be able to do is run a couple of games (i.e. Sudoku) on it and keep my appointments organized.
I have a 15" AL Powerbook and will be using a Palm hotsync cradle with a serial to USB adapter.
    Will this work ?

    Hi KMoorehouse,
Well, I still have my Palm IIIx kicking around but I've never actually connected it to my PowerBook. First, you'll need something like this to change over the serial to USB. I'm not sure which version of Palm desktop software you're using (3.something or maybe 4.0). There are some known issues with version 4.0 which Palm has posted on their site here. I guess the only thing to do at this point is install the software, connect the IIIc (after you get a serial to USB adaptor) and try it out. Good luck.

  • Syncing Palm IIIc with OS 10.4 on G4 Powerbook

I am not sure which forum to post this in but here's my question:
I recently purchased a Palm IIIc on eBay for a very nominal amount as I couldn't really afford a new Tungsten E2.
What I want to know if it is even possible to sync these older palm pilots with OS 10.4 ? I am getting a cradle with it but will need the 9 pin serial to USB adapter.
I read a few articles which showed that this could work and Palm's website shows you can download software for the Palm IIc....
BUT....can anybody here tell me if it will actually work or they have successfully been able to get it to work in OS X?
    Thanks.

Handango has a freeware suite which contains an older version of Firepad Fireviewer here: http://www.handango.com/catalog/ProductDetails.jsp?storeId=2218&deviceId=39&platformId=1&productId=1... . I have this on my Palm IIIc and it works quite well. I have tried just about everything else and this is the only freeware I have found that works. The images actually look quite good for 8-bit color, and if you don't mind black and white, the 16-bit greyscale is cool too.

  • Sync Palm IIIc with online calendar?

    Hi
I sync my Nokia phone with a online calendar (google or scheduleworld or other), but I would like to share the calendar with my wife.
The easy solution would be to give her another mobile phone, but she like the one she has, and don't want another. But she has a Palm IIIc
she always carry with her, so I am looking for a way to sync it with an online calendar. Can Outlook do the job? I must admit it is not my
prefered solution, because it is a rather expensive one. What are there alternatives?
    Post relates to: Palm m515

Hello lianergoist and welcome to the Palm forums.
You can configure your Google calendar to sync with Microsoft Outlook (details) and then configure the Palm HotSync Manager to sync with Outlook.  That way, the data from Google can flow into Outlook and when your wife HotSync's here IIIc, the data will be downloaded into her Date Book application.

  • Trying to sync addresses from Palm VII To Palm IIIc

I am using the new Palm One software and the same user and the addresses on my computer will not sync with a Palm IIIc.  Hot Sync works but the addresses will not sync to the Palm IIIc handheld.  I have done a hard reset and made sure both user names are the same. What am I doing wrong?
    Post relates to: Palm Pilot

Hello and welcome to the Palm forums.
When you sync for the first time after a hard reset, the computer will prompt you, "there is no user name associated with this account..." You need to select your old user name to get the old info to come back onto your palm. You should not type in the same user name in the box where they allow you to enter a new user name.

  • Palm TX HotSync Problems with Windows Vista (DeskTop V6.2.2 HotSync Manager V7.0.2)

I have recently had to re-install DeskTop on my Windows Vista PC and at the same time updated to V6.2.2. but the HotSync manager gets to "Synchronising Date Book" and just hangs up until I close things with Task Manager. I've tried re-booting my PC reloading the software and soft resetting my TX but so far I haven't found a solution. Can anyone help please?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

When a sync hangs on a component of Palm Destop, it usually means the data is corrupted in that component. The calendar is the culprit most of the time.
Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.
    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
To install the program, set all conduits to "do nothing" except quick install or install if using Palm desktop 6.2.
After you install the program on the handheld, run the scan and also scan for Blobs in the calendar.
After you clean-up the database on the handheld, set the conduits in hotsync to handheld overwrites desktop and perform a hotsync.
If you need more info. regarding DBFixit, there is a PDF manual on their website.

  • Palm Z22 screen problems.

Hello i own a Palm Z22. yesterday the screen on it stoped working. i was playing solitair on it the night before the screen stoped working. i had left it on my living room table. i have tried resetting the device but that has not worked. is there anything i can do to fix it? Or do i need to have it replaced? i use the device for my job so i really need to fix it.
    Thanks,
    Morgan L.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Have you done a soft or hard reset of the device yet? To do a soft reset if you do not know how to do one, is you put the stylus in the reset hole in the back of the device. If you do not know what a hard reset is go here http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887. Now I should tell you this will remove everything from the device and restore it back to factory settings. So you should sync it to a computer so you have your data backed up.
If you did a soft and hard resets and the problem is still not resolved you need to have the device repaired or replaced. You can call into our support at 866-935-7256.

  • Palm OS Emulator problem

    hi all,
the problem i've got has something to do with the refreshing of my Midlet's display.
I've got two "Displayables" one Canvas and one TextBox, first i set the Canvas (with an image) as the current object on my display, it works fine, the problem is that i've got a command in the Canvas that when pressed it change the midletsdisplay.setCurrent(TextBox).
If i run this midlet with the ktoolbar application everything works fine, but if i run it with the Palm Os Emulator 3.3 the Canvas is not removed from the display and i cant see the TextBox.... any ideas?
    thank you,
    Laura.

    [LauraD],
What you are seeing with the Display.setCurrent() method is explained in the MIDP API documentation. There isn't a website that I can point you to the online, so I have taken the liberty to cut n paste the setCurrent() API documentation explanation of its usage:
    setCurrent
public void setCurrent(Displayable nextDisplayable)Requests that a different Displayable object be made visible on the display. The change will typically not take effect immediately. It may be delayed so that it occurs between event delivery method calls, although it is not guaranteed to occur before the next event delivery method is called. The setCurrent() method returns immediately, without waiting for the change to take place. Because of this delay, a call to getCurrent() shortly after a call to setCurrent() is unlikely to return the value passed to setCurrent().
Calls to setCurrent() are not queued. A delayed request made by a setCurrent() call may be superseded by a subsequent call to setCurrent(). For example, if screen S1 is current, then
             d.setCurrent(S2);
d.setCurrent(S3); may eventually result in S3 being made current, bypassing S2 entirely.
When a MIDlet application is first started, there is no current Displayable object. It is the responsibility of the application to ensure that a Displayable is visible and can interact with the user at all times. Therefore, the application should always call setCurrent() as part of its initialization.
The application may pass null as the argument to setCurrent(). This does not have the effect of setting the current Displayable to null; instead, the current Displayable remains unchanged. However, the application management software may interpret this call as a hint from the application that it is requesting to be placed into the background. Similarly, if the application is in the background, passing a non-null reference to setCurrent() may be interpreted by the application management software as a hint that the application is requesting to be brought to the foreground. The request should be considered to be made even if the current Displayable is passed to the setCurrent(). For example, the code
d.setCurrent(d.getCurrent()); generally will have no effect other than requesting that the application be brought to the foreground. These requests are only hints, and there is no requirement that the application management software comply with these requests in a timely fashion if at all.
If the Displayable passed to setCurrent() is an Alert, the previous Displayable is restored after the Alert has been dismissed. The effect is as if setCurrent(Alert, getCurrent()) had been called. Note that this will result in an exception being thrown if the current Displayable is already an alert.
To specify the Displayable to be shown after an Alert is dismissed, the application should use the setCurrent(Alert, Displayable) method. If the application calls setCurrent() while an Alert is current, the Alert is removed from the display and any timer it may have set is cancelled.
If the application calls setCurrent() while a system screen is active, the effect may be delayed until after the system screen is dismissed. The implementation may choose to interpret setCurrent() in such a situation as a request to cancel the effect of the system screen, regardless of whether setCurrent() has been delayed.
    Parameters:
nextDisplayable - the Displayable requested to be made current; null is allowed.
So as you can see, setCurrent() requests are only hints as explained in the documentation. There is no requirement that the Java Application Management software comply with these requests in a timely fashion ,if at all. Therefore what it means for you is that the JAM implemented for the wireless toolkit inteprets the call to setCurrent() differently than the Palm OS application management software which is running on the Palm OS operating system. Suffice to say, this does not mean that the MIDP implementation for the Palm OS is non compliant, it just means that the different runtime environment inteprets setCurrent() differently since calling the method is just a hint to the system to bring the Displayble object to the foreground.
It will be helpful if you can post snippets of the code for us to examine and suggest a way to workaround your issue.
    HTH.
