Palm Isync
Hey, this is not my first port of call, I have read lots of articles all over the web about this but i still cant make it work.
I want to sync my Palm T3 with my Mac (using ical, addressbook, & ipalmmemo)
I have installed palm desktop and hotsync manager.
When i go through hot sync manager and open conduit settings and select isync conduit and double click it simply closes hotsync manager, it doesnt open the settings window so i can select isync syncing.
Isync itself wont find my Palm through scan.
But selceting hotsync on my palm runs hotsync on the mac (via cable or bluetooth) and runs successfully but doesnt appear to actually sync data anywhere, either mac aps or palm desktop.
Is missingsync the only successful way to go?
Any ideas on why the settings wont open? or a successful steps of doing this?
Thanks all
Frustrated-CHris
just to add, i have sucessfully installed palm desktop and it syncs fine, all ok.
However i still cant open settings for isync conduit to enable isync with mac aps.

Duplicate calendar entries with Palm/isync
I was able to sync my Palm Tungsten E2 once with entourage, ical, and address book. I was able to enter events in the calendar (through entourage) and enter them in the palm, and it synced perfectly. I went to do it again, and now I have duplicate events in ical and entourage and palm (about 4). The palm appears in the isync and I've enabled the palm os sync, and when checking the hot sync manager, I select the icon, but it never applies. I spoke with palm and they said they didn't have the software updated for this version of macbook.
My question is, if it worked once, why not all the time?
And is there a way remove the duplicate events without manually deleting them?
MacBook 10.5.5
Tungsten Palm E2, conduit manager 3.2.1, isync 3.0.2, Palm 4.2.1I haven't the time to answer this in depth at the moment, but you can do three things immediately:
• stop synchronizing and, if necessary, remove your device from iSync temporarily
• back up the contact, event and task data stored in the Address Book and iCal
• remove the duplicates* from your Palm OS databases
*The tool best suited for dealing with duplicate records on a Palm device is UnDupe, from Stevens Creek Software.
There a couple of fundamental issues in play here, and I will explain them later. It is particularly because you have chosen Entourage and intend to keep using it that dealing with this issue is more complex than it otherwise would be. -
Palm Tree 755p + iSync/Missing Sync for Palm/iSync Conduit 1.2
I'm lost! Being stuck with a new Palm Treo 755p instead of the iPhone until my contract runs out. How do I get my Treo to sync with my Mac? There's iSync, iSync Conduit 1.2 and even Missing Sync for Palm. I'm willing to pay anything just to get things to sync with the Treo & iBook. But, after reading anything and everything I can find even on Discussions ... I'm more confused than ever.
Can anyone tell me what the real difference is between Missing Sync for Palm vs. iSync & iSync Conduit 1.2?
If I had that rebate check from uncle Sam maybe I'd go out and pay off Sprint to get out of my 2 year contract and then buy an iPhone, LOL. Oh, that's right we don't get the check until summer
Any help is appreciated.OK, I finally broke down and purchased "Missing Sync," after waiting for Apple to fix this problem. I'm sorry to say that "Missing Sync" does NOT solve this issue completely. It will sync the Address book, but will NOT work with iCal.
Apparently, "Mark/Space" (the makers of "Missing Sync") are aware of the problems, have identified the problem as Apple's, and reported it to Apple. Here are some of the issues noted on the "Mark/Space" web-page...
"This article describes situations under which The Missing Sync may report errors or perfomance issues. One error message is specific to iCal (part of Apple's Mac OS X operating system) and describes errors from iCal that are affecting the ability of The Missing Sync from performing sync functions properly."
"In certain situations, The Missing Sync reports an error message titled 'iCal Sync Errors'. This error is often caused when iCal is attempting to share data with Sync Services. Although this error has little to do with handheld devices, it affects the ability to sync data to or from those devices as Sync Services functions are compromised."
"THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO APPLE, INC. BY MARK/SPACE."
"Errors that are not reported in The Missing Sync log may be found in the Console.log file."
"Here are some of the error messages you may see in the Console:
iSDSqliteRecordMapper
SQLite locking issue
iSynceConcreteSession
NSInvalidArgumentException
ICalExternalSync
ISyncInvalidRecordException
These error are generated by Sync Services and reported to The Missing Sync."
So, for those of you hoping that "Missing Sync" will solve the problems we are having with various hand-helds, and/or cell phones, it doesn't completely. I am a huge fan of Mark/Space's "The Missing Sync" and have used it many times throughout the years. It's a great piece of software that does a whole lot more than iSync ever has, but it does NOT solve all of the problems that are being reported all over this forum in regards to iSync issues and hand-helds/cell phones. -
I set up my palm vx and did a successful sync for the first time. All of the info from my mac went into the palm(whihc was empty) and everything was fine. I just went to resync and came up with the warning that more than 5% of the contents on my computer would be changed. Now I haven't even used the palm so I'm not sure how it can have different info than the computer. Is there a setting that says that you should update the palm to the computer and not visa versa?
Well, if you have really installed iSync 1.5 and the iSync Palm Conduit 1.2 on a Macintosh of some sort running Mac OS X 10.4.10—or, actually, any release of Mac OS X 10.4.x—you are doomed.
Well, not exactly. But if you've done that, you've got a lot of work ahead of you… -
Palm iSync Eliminated by Leopard
I have been using a Treo 650 as my PDA and iSynching with Mac OSX. Some initial setup headaches to get a conduit set up but otherwise working fine.
I installed Leopard 4 days ago. Now I can't synch anything. I use iCal and Addressbook and my mail account is a .mac account so without the ability to isynch I am in serious sh*t.
The diagnostic tells me to download and install PalmDesktopMac421Revd and I have done that.
I synch with Bluetooth. I use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and they are both still working.
Any help would be appreciated.
MarkFirstly, this is a user-to-user forum so Apple will never respond here.
Secondly, I'm not really sure what you are expecting from Apple.
You were using a third-party iSync Plugin to sync your phone, then updated Leopard, and that same Plugin no longer works?
To me, that suggests the iSync Plugin maybe wasn't written correctly in the first place (with future compatibility in mind), and needs updating by its original creator. It's not Apple's job to fix problems with third-party plugins. Or perhaps you simply need to re-setup the phone again.
Try contacting whoever originally made the plugin and see whether there's an update or solution. -
The Missing Sync for Palm OS v6.0.4 won't run with my Palm Tungsten E2
Having problems with Palm iSync on My iBook with 10.4.11 I bought The Missing Sync.
I removed Palm Desktop and installed Missing Sync. However sync won't start when I press the HotSync button.
Is my Palm Tungsten E2, running Palm OS Garnet v. 3.1.1 too old?
If so, can I upgrade it?
Post relates to: Tungsten E2
Post relates to: Tungsten E2No, there is nothing published - that I am aware of - other than the Missing Sync User Guide that you received [as portable document format file] when you purchased the Missing Sync for Palm OS.
There is some developer documentation available from Apple, but it has little direct bearing on anything like the issue you are seeing. Your crash logs should have provided an indication of what was going on, and - using them - Mark/Space should have been able to identify your issue pretty easily.
It's very difficult to troubleshoot unusual issues remotely. Common problems - which can be easily identified - are readily corrected just by following the instructions posted by some knowledgable person here in the Apple Discussions forums. Given the unique circumstances you report of total failure following the installation of the Missing Sync, it's very likely that the actual culprit in your configuration is NOT the Palm desktop, iSync, .Mac Sync, the Missing Sync for Palm OS or your Treo 600. Something unique about your configuration is likely responsible. Trying to eliminate the variables, though, is not an easy task.
One relatively easy way to troubleshoot such issues is to create a new user, reinstall the Missing Sync and attempt to synchronize using that new user account. If that process is successful, you'll immediately know that something involving your existing user account is responsible for the issue. -
Changing contact classifications
I have Outlook 2007 on Windows 7, an iPhone 3GS and an iPad.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, I had MobileMe which kept all of my devices synced, but now our company has moved to Exchange. I have changed over my calendar and contacts to sync with Exchange.
I have two questions relating to my contacts.
First, some of my contacts show the country and others don't, but I don't see any difference in the setup between the ones that do show it and the ones that don't on any of my devices. I don't have any international contacts, so I would rather it not to show.
Second, some of my contacts (for example, ones that I created from the maps app) had the name of the company in both the first name field and the company name field and their picture was a picture of the pin from the maps app. After the transition to Exchange, I have been going in and cleaning up some of these issues, and when I clear the first name field and get rid of the picture, the contact shows a head icon rather than the buildings icon that appears for companies that don't have pictures. Under MobileMe, I was able to go into the contact and check the box saying the contact was a company and the devices would correct themselves. I don't see this type of a checkbox or classification on the iPhone, iPad, or in Outlook. Am I missing it somewhere?
Thanks!!!I could be wrong, but I've always found that Address Book on my Mac was like the Master Repository of the data. I would rarely add a contact on my iPhone (and by extension, my iPad). If I did, I would clean it up in Address Book.
Last year, when I convinced my company to allow me to use my iPhone on Exchange, upon my first sync, I would guess that about 10% of my contacts were messed up. I'm not sure why, but I cleaned them up in Entourage (Outlook, kind of sort of, for Office for Mac).
Honestly, I couldn't figure out the logic of what cause certain contacts to mess up and those that did not. I had the same issue with countries, which is important to me, since I do international business. Some synced perfectly. Some wouldn't sync at all. And some defaulted to "USA". The best I could determine was that older contacts seem to have more problems (I have contacts that go back to 1992, and have been synced through multiple programs including Outlook, Palm, iSync, etc. etc., though I've stayed with Address Book for the past seven years or so. I'll bet some random bit of code just got transferred from one program to another. -
I'm looking at buying a new ipod and i was separately looking at buying a PDA.
However, the only things i want from a PDA are to be able to make new appointment details in a calendar, sync to ical and to create to-do lists.
Could i do all of this in the ipod touch?
Are there any drawbacks to the ipod touch ical facility as of the last software update?
Anything else i need to know as a new user?Probably best to go and re-post in the iSync or iCal forums.
Windows Mobile / Pocket PC. My view is that anything Windows-based is out of the question as you'll need third party software like mark/space or PocketMac Pro. The latter doesn't work in any fashion whatsoever (I did fight with their support for 15mths to give me something for my money but never once got a good sync). I've not tried mark/space but I wasn't prepare to throw more money away.
Mobile Phone. Currently I use a Sony Ericsson mobile phone which could hardly be described as a PDA but it syncs with iCal (multiple read and single write calendars and add, edit and complete To Dos) and add, edit and delete Address Book entries. That is all I need and the iPod touch is approaching this limited level of capability.
Palm. Some Palm devices will work with iSync. I'd guess for a fully featured PDA look at Palm.
iSync compatible devices. Like I say best to ask elsewhere for more informed opinion but the above should give you the basis to ask the right questions.
cheers

My contacts sync just fine from my iPhone to my iMac, but contacts newly created in Address Book will not sync to iPhone. Is there a setting that I missed?
Waterside,
Reseting it one time should work. If you find that the issue reoccurs frequently it is likely there is something corrupting the SyncServices data. This could be corrupted data being synced from another source, or an application that is not acting as it should.
iSync, Entourage 11.3.5 and later, iTunes, iCal, .Mac Sync, Address Book, Palm Desktop with the Palm iSync Conduit installed, and others all interact with Sync Services.
Hope this helps,

Here's my situation, I've been a long time Palm user, and fairly recently (within a year) a new Mac user. I've always used the Palm Desktop on my PC in the past. I've had a Palm Vx for years, and fairly recently (within a year) I bought a Palm Zire 72 and a Sony Ericsson S170a cell phone. I also have an iPod Photo.
I really would like to sync up my address book, calendars, memos, maybe even photos, with all my devices. I tried using iSync, but nothing seam to work right, so I tried a million things, now everything is messed up.
For right now, I'm just trying to get my Palm Pilot, the Mac, and the Phone to have all the same calendar events (w the correect times, alarms, colors, and groups).
I'm really frustrated with trying to get the mac's iCal, the palm pilot, the phone to all have the same calendar info. I really like iCal, and the mac address book, and how well it works with the mail app. As well as subscribing to shared iCals. Especially the holiday ones! I use to have to enter all that info by hand, and have them "other" repeater. The Palm Desktop software's calendar and address book is pretty clunky compared to the Mac apps, or even the Palm Desktop for the PC. But everything is messed up now. I even tried the "missing sync" software and it messed it up even worse.
Several of my cal events are now GONE from iCal, my Palm Pilot, and my Phone! Many of them have duplicates, some have wrong times. Some have right groups, some don't. The ones that do have right groups, don't have any colors applied to them. If I create certain calendars on the mac and sync with the palm, the groups do not come over. If I create them on the Palm, the groups don't come over on the mac. Getting the colors/groups to match, and all 3 items to sync all at once is a nightmare as well. There were a million conflicts, and chose the correct ones, but some of them would NOT let me pick the one I wanted, it would just keep on saying "conflict".
What would AT LEAST get me back to the original info on the Palm and the Mac would be to restore from my Palm Desktop software, but I can't get to that because it looks like the missing sync software has messed the conduit/hot sync manager up. I can no longer get to my Palm Desktop condiut settings. I'd re-install the palm software to get it back, but I will probably loose all the data stored in Palm Desktop. This is the ONLY place that has the correct info right now. I'm varry warry about loosing that information. I use to have the PC copy, and the Palm Copy, and it was all right. The Palm Desktop has an import/export feature, but it doesn't seam to carry all the info (like notes attatched to cal events).
Also, has anyone tried to RESTORE a Palm Pilot not using the Palm Desktop software? When I had to reset my Palm, I tried using iSync or even missing sync to get all my apps, settings, calendars, address books, everything, but it never put the info back on the Palm. This info was always restored with Palm Desktop.
And let's just say I DO get back all my calendar items back into the Palm, and the Palm Desktop software up and running correctly. What is the proper way to do what I was trying to do in the begining? Which was "just have my Palm Pilot, the Mac, and the Phone to have all the same calendar events (w the right times, alarms, colors, and groups)." I don't seam to have too many problems with contacts. Except work/home fields seam to swap all the time.
What I'm running:
G4 PowerMac w/ Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.3)
Palm Pilot Zire 72s (Palm Software v5.2.8)
Missing Sync (v5.0.3)
Palm Desktop Mac (v4.2.1)
Sony Ericsson S170a Cell Phone
iPod Photo 60GB
G4 PowerMac Mac OS X (10.4.3) Palm Pilot Zire 72s (Palm Software v5.2.8), Missing Sync (v5.0.3), Palm Desktop Mac (v4.2.1), SonyWhere to start? Maybe with some background about the synchronization process.
What Apple hasn't explained outside of the developer community is that you are not actually synchronizing applications [like iCal or the Address Book] or servers [like .Mac] or devices [like your mobile handset or a Palm organizer] when you initiate a synchronization. What you are really doing is triggering an interaction with one or more of these and the SyncServices engine, which maintains what is termed the 'truth database'—or simply, the 'truth'—to which is pushed, or from which is pulled, the current state of data maintained in fields and records for one or more specific data types. Because of the way this process works, it is not necessary to have all synchronized devices available or attached when a synchronization event occurs.
You can synchronize your SONY Ericsson S710a, a process which exchanges the most current data maintained in the truth with it, and hours later, plug in your iPod, an action which will trigger iTunes to pull the latest data from the truth and write it to the iPod, updating your contact and calendaring records. The same is true for other applications, servers and devices.
While it all seems clumsy and confusing, it is actually a huge step forward in making synchronization nearly automatic, almost transparent, and virtually mistake proof. It's clear that there is some distance to go before those objectives are achieved, but SyncServices is actually a huge improvement over the prior synchronization technology in iSync 1.5 and earlier.
That said, there are bugs in SyncServices, and in the applications written by several developers to take advantage of it, along with issues in at least iCal, and probably the Address Book, that complicate what you are trying to achieve. It's possible to do, and once working, should work nearly flawlessly. But, it takes some planning to get there.
First, a word about backing up your data. It's a good idea to periodically back up contact and calendaring records using the facilities built into iCal and the Address Book which appear in the File menu of each application. These options make easily restorable local snapshots of your data. Should something go terribly wrong with a synchronization event, you can immediately restore your iCal or Address Book data from these files. In addition, it's a good idea to have a more comprehensive backup plan in place, using Backup and .Mac, Backup and rewritable media, and so on.
To synchronize photos, music and other media files, you'll need to use the Missing Sync for Palm OS. iSync just does not support anything beyond contact, calendaring and task data. To begin the process, you should simplify your device pool, initially concentrating only on getting a complete, accurate set of contact, event and task records pushed to the truth from the Address Book and iCal, and onto your Palm.
You will have to take an inventory of where the best records reside, and insure that you get them into iCal and the Address Book before attempting to synchronize your Palm, because to do it properly, initially, you will have to overwrite the data on your Palm, replacing it with records from iCal and the Address Book. If you're going to edit them by making additions, changes and deletions, perform all of those in iCal and the Address Book until you have synchronized your Palm device or devices with them. Backup before performing the initial synchronization, and be sure to overwrite each Palm device the first time.
If you want a historic snapshot of the data on either Palm device before doing this, first follow the instructions provided by Mark/Space to use the standard Palm conduits instead of Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks, and be sure to set each Palm conduit to Palm overwrites handheld in order to transfer the data from your Palm Vx and Zire 72 to the Palm Desktop. Once there, those records can be exported as vCard and vCal files, and easily imported into the Address Book and iCal if you wish to do that. Edit them as you see fit, once they have been transfered. If you elect to do that, you must thereafter turn off these Palm conduits and reconfigure the Missing Sync to use the Mark/Space conduits, again choosing to have your computer replace the contents on each Palm device on the first synchronization.
Once you've achieved a 'balance' with the records in iCal, the Address Book and your handheld organizers, you can reset the records on your mobile handset. iSync alone performs this function, and later synchronization events with your SONY Ericsson S710a will always be manually triggered, and performed using iSync, not the Missing Sync. Reset once, and subsequently synchronize.
Anything else you want to add to the mix—.Mac Sync, for example—you can then add, initially performing a reset of your .Mac data, then subsequently synchronizing.
Synchronization of your iPod is handled by iTunes and only pulls data from the truth, so it need not be reset, as it cannot write changes to the truth which would adversely affect your other devices. -

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Know that for questions such as this in the future, the Search Discussions feature is your friend. You have stumbled onto the single most frequently encountered Palm device problem under Mac OS X 10.5 and later releases. You can workaround this issue by…
• eliminating Groups in your Address Book
• turning off Contacts to synchronize calendars, the Calendars to synchronize contacts
• ditching the iSync and iSync Conduit approach completely and instead using the Missing Sync for Palm OS -
I had isync working with our Palm TX, as well as syncing with Palm's own desktop etc, when we were using the usb cable. Now, I have the Palm syncing successfully via bluetooth but only to the Palm desktop (when I choose sync from the palm the desktop manager opens on the mac and syncing takes place but I no longer see the iCal conduit launching). If I launch iSync itself the Palm symbol is no longer shown, and if I choose to connect to device it doesn't find anything. Strangely enough if I connect via cable again iSync still doesn't find the Palm. There must be something I'm overlooking.
It will allow me to install the means to sync to Palm OS but it says that some of the existing conduits have to be disabled in order to do so.

ISync Palm Conduit with third party conduits?
Although we use the iSync Palm conduit to sync our Address Book data to our Palm devices, we use Meeting Maker as our calendar application. This has been fine under Panther...we would turn off calendar syncing in the iSync conduit and the respective data would synchronize properly. But under Tiger, the Palm conduit installed by iSync checks to see if there are third party conduits installed and if so, insists on disabling them. We can manually move the Meeting Maker conduits back into the Conduits directory, but anytime iSync is opened, it gives an alert that conflicting conduits need to be moved. This is most frustrating, especially considering that the whole process ran perfectly under Panther. Is there any fix or hack that can prevent the problem under iSync in Tiger?
Actually, there is a simple fix. Although this step was not necessary under Mac OS X releases prior to Mac OS X 10.4, you now must uncheck the Calendar option in iSync, quit the program, then toss this iSync preference file:
com.apple.isync.plist
You will find that file here:
Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Preferences
When you next launch iSync, that preference file will be recreated, but you will now be able to synchronize your contact data with the Address Book using iSync and your calendaring data with Meeting Maker. -
Isync failing to ical for palm z22 after upgrade to mac os x 10.5.1
just upgraded my powerbook G4 to mac os x 10.5.1, now unable to successfully complete hotsync. new events on my palm DID get added to my iCal, but hotsync manager dies before completion with an error message. see below for hotsync log details.
previously had os x 10.3.x and was syncing my palm z22 with iCal, address book, etc. just fine. to make it as simple as possible, in isync i un-checked "contacts", and under "calendars" i checked "ignore palm events older than one month". in hotsync conduit settings, "isync conduit" is set as "enable isync", all other conduits are set as "do nothing".
have pored through the many threads on sync problems with 10.5.x but didn't see one with this particular symptom. any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Leopard, iSync & Palm: Cannot get it to work
I have been using my Palm z22 sucessfully for the past year. However, after installing Leopard I realized that I cannot get my my Palm to sync at all with Leopard. I followed the installation instruction exactly and when I run the sync it appears as if the device is syncing. iSync and Hotsync show some action. However, nothing actually gets changed on my Palm.
Any help here on how to get it work? This is a bug in Leopard. A lot of us are still using workarounds and hoping Apple will eventually fix this.
If you search through this forum for "palm" or "treo", etc., you will find more information --though none of it is very hopeful.
