Palm m505 - Accidentally Deleted Memo

I just made a bit of an oops. I was working on a Memo in my Palm m505 and attempted to paste some text into it using the "/P" keystrokes. As occasionally happens, my strokes were interpreted as "/D" instead, which deletes the Memo. Fortunately, there is the confirmation screen. But as has never happened to me before, I absentmindedly confirmed before I fully realized what it was asking me.<br><BR> I have the Memo function on the m505 configured to "Save archive copy on PC", so I know the data is still in there. But I am working away from home and am not therefore not where I have my synchronization setup. Is synchronization the only way to access the deleted data that obviously is still in there somewhere? I would sure like to recover that memo sooner than I expect to be home if that is possible .

Once you delete the memo from the device you cannot recover it unless you have the same memo on the PC in Palm desktop. If it is in Palm desktop, you can sync to get the memo back on the handheld.

  • How do I retrieve a deleted memo on my Tungsten E2?

I have a Tungsten E2.  I accidentally deleted a memo on the unit that is extremely important. I do not have this information backed up on my desktop, ( I do not sync my device to my computer -- probably a BIG mistake!) so does that mean the memo is gone forever?? Is there a trash can on the Tungsten where I can retrieve it?? Please help!!!

Hi songgirl42, sorry but there is no "trash can" on a Palm OS device.  The memo is gone.
This is why doing Regular HotSyncs is soooo important!

  • I connected my camera card and accidentally hit delete all files.  Can it be restored - it has been been unplugged.

I connected my camera SD card using a connection kit.  I accidentally hit delete and all photos from my card disappeared - not the 4 that were checked.  Because I have not unplugged my card yet, I was hoping that somehow the photos could be restored.  Is this possible?

There is some software designed specifically for recovering files on media cards for cameras.
The one I have is Image Rescue 4 by Lexar. It is really excellent.

  • Accidentally clicked delete after iPhoto import

Greetings, I just accidentally clicked delete all after importing from my wifes iPhone 4s to her iPhoto library. I very quickly grabbed the USB cable out of my mac mini and the photo's are fine in the library and phone. But I'm curious about what will happen now (leaving aside the ungraceful usb dismount).I've been backing the phone up nightly both into iPhoto and iTunes. If I plug that in tonight will iPhoto remember that bad click and begin deleting the 3k images on her phone? Her iPhoto library had 8k+ images, so if that happened I can't think of how I would know which ones to restore (of course, hoping someone can tell me "that won't happen" or double your money back ) Any ideas on what will happen and/or how to recover if the worst does?

    Sorry to be a pest (here's the but);
Larry I know it's unsupported, the warning dialog tells me so "would never be done" is a -completely- different idea. Users -often- use software outside it's design parameters that's why STE and STD's  lurk forums like this. I get that maybe they're not going to help me out but I'm giving them the option. Also, I grok usb, despite my mistake I've used Unix since the 80's and usb since the month it was released. Users make mistakes If I've corrupted the volume I'll take my lumps, and restore from iTunes. that's not really my question.
    I'm asking about iPhoto.
iPhoto was where I clicked delete all. There's no danger of iPhone backup deleting images from my phones camera roll. -iPhoto- will interact with the phone the next time I connect it, I'm just curious if the expected behavior is for iPhoto to remember that the user clicked delete and the phone was  disconnected before the process ran, and go back to catch up on the request (despite the app being quit and the machine restarted). Or if iPhoto will detect that the phone went away and say "well, I guess we'll skip that one".
I'm curious to know if anyone here has insight, if not I'll plug it in tonight (France time) and let you all know if it was easy or if I had to do a phone restore.

    Hello m505userHB,
First, try performing a soft reset. For instructions on how to do that, grab a copy of the User Guide and head to page 229. Also, make sure you device is charged.
If that doesn't work, it's time to do a hard reset. That will erase all information on your device, but all the information you've synced to the computer will be restored on the next HotSync. Steps to performing a hard reset are on page 230 of the same User Guide

Look for the recent post about syncing to a m515 and Win7, or the sticky post at the top of the section entitled, "64 bit Palm Desktop drivers are here!"

  • Palm m505 and Windows Vista

I recently resurrected my Palm M505 to start using it again but it doesn't want to hotsync to my computer using Windows Vista.  I tried downloading update 6.2 from this site (not that it showed that it would workf for my Palm, but what the heck) but it didn't fix the problem either and I'm getting a fatal error message.  Is there a patch or a work around that I can download/use that will allow my Palm to work with Windows Vista?  I really don't want to get rid of the Palm and switching operating systems is not an option either.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check the OS version such as 32 bit or 64 bit.
If it's 64bit then the device will not syc. That are no drivers for the device, you might want to consider infrared hotsync.

  • Palm m505 Unable to Sync

I have been unable to sync my Palm m505 running Palm OS 4.1 for over a year.  I am running Palm Desktop 4.1.4 on a Sony VGN-FS920 running XP Pro.
I have contacted Palm Support multiple times regarding this issue and sited an article that I found on their site indicating that this is a hardware related issue from Palm.  They claim they are sending me a "reset" card by I have yet to receive anything from them in the last 5 months.
Can anyone tell me if there is any other way I can get all of my data off of my Palm m505 to another Palm device since I can't sync to the desktop?  Is it possible to beam entire categories from one Palm to another?
Do you have any suggestions of how I can resolve this sync issue?
Here's the story from the Palm website about the m505 problem.....
New cradles offer enhanced ESD protection.
A small percentage of our m500 and m505 handheld users have reported synchronization issues - they are unable to perform the HotSync® function. The issue is electrostatic discharge (ESD).
Here's what happens: you sometimes build up excess static electricity (hair stands on end, clothes cling, you get a shock when you slide across your car seat), and if it isn't dissipated into, say, a door knob or metal cabinet, then it's possible that at the time you place the handheld into the cradle, a discharge of static electricity can occur, which in some situations can scramble the synchronization software. When this happens, neither the handheld nor the cradle is damaged, but the synchronization software needs to be reset by Palm.
Palm handhelds and HotSync cradles meet CE standards (8KV) for protection against electrostatic discharge. The newly designed “E” and “H” cradles include enhanced static electricity buffers. You can get one free if you own a Palm m500 or m505 handheld that did not ship with an enhanced cradle. Please contact Palm Technical support for additional information. Please have your Palm m500 or m505 serial number available.

  • Separate Palm desktop installs for Palm M505 and its apps and Palm Treo 680 and its apps on same Windows XP computer?

    Hello:
I'm trying to do a workaround. I've got a Palm M505 that has a terrific keyboard that hooks up to it. This lets me write documents in a very portable way. The Treo 680 never had the equivalent, really full-sized external keyboard made compatible with it. So, I want to create documents on the M505 but otherwise mostly use the Treo 680.
Here's the rub. When I tried to sync both devices to my Palm Desktop version 4.1.2 for Windows XP, it didn't work. Hotsync tries to synchronize apps that won't work on the M505. Also, the versions of Documents to Go are very different (5.x versus 8.x).
I would love to have a separate Palm Desktop installation for each device, so I can have a nice desktop environment for each by launching them separately. But, the Palm Desktop installation "wizard" shuts down and won't give me the opportunity to do a separate Desktop install.
Any ideas other than buying an ultra-small laptop and dropping this kludgy scheme? For instance, if I were to copy the installed files from one directory to another, would this work, or would it not be set up in the Registry?
    Thanks!

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Okay. Stubbornness pays off! I was able to beam documents between my Palm M505 and Treo 680, avoiding the need for complicated syncing of both Palms to my laptop machine. I was also able to beam documents from both Palms to my Dell Inspiron M300 laptop, running Windows XP Pro.
When beaming between Palm devices, the results were better. In the M505, Documents to Go version 5.004 doesn't translate documents into Microsoft Word format but into something it calls Word to Go. The Treo has DTG version 8.003, which is able to read files in Word to Go format and save in native Microsoft Word for Windows format.
However, even when beaming a Word to Go (old format) document directly onto the Desktop of my Windows XP machine, it gave me a document I could open, with the text I'd input following a bunch of characters Word obviously didn't understand. If I add the file from my desktop to the newer Documents to Go version on my laptop, I expect it will translate it into a Word file when it syncs to the Treo but haven't tested that. In either case, beaming between Palm devices is the easiest solution and completely solves the problem.
For any readers who are interested, the reason I've so stubbornly tried to solve this problem is that I'm a fast touch typist. My old Palm M505 plugs directly into a wonderful, old Palm Portable Keyboard that is full-sized. Because it's a hard-wired connection, I can type fast. That old keyboard compresses into the same folded footprint as some new foldover external keyboards. It does this even though much bigger by folding in an accordian-like fashion, with four flat surfaces folder together. That keyboard design now exists in some of the keyboards sold by IGo corporation (their old name for it was Sierra Stowaway Bluetooth Keyboard). But, they were unable to figure out how to handshake their Bluetooth with the odd Bluetooth configuation in the Treo 680. Why Palm made the Bluetooth library different in the Treo 680 from other Treos is a mystery to me, but enough of this tangent. Some interested in this workaround may be curious for similar reasons.

You might want to try the File Manager update:
    http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/m-series/m500/unlocked/solutions/article/48335_en.html
This fixed a formatting problem with cards larger than 128 megs.
Do you have a card reader on your computer that will read the card?  It might just be defective!
Good luck finding a store that will work on a legacy Palm product!

  • Palm m505 to MacBook OS X

Hey all, have a new Mac Book, and loving it. However, trying to get an older model PDA (Palm m505) to sync with it. Having trouble. Computer isn't even recognizing that the docking staion is plugged in. Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Are you attempting to synchronize your m505 handheld organizer using the Palm Desktop, using iSync or using the Missing Sync for Palm OS?
Troubleshooting your configuration requires an understanding of your basic configuration.
It is doubtful that your MacBook fails to recognize the presence of the USB docking station. It does not show up in the System Profiler unless it is actively communicating with your computer, and it cannot do that if your device has not been added successfully using the HotSync Manager, iSync or the Missing Sync. So, put that aside for the time being, describe your configuration, what and how you have installed your synchronization software, and exactly what error message or messages you receive when you attempt to add or configure your device, configure a conduit, or when you initiate a synchronization event using the HotSync button on your cable or cradle.

  • Disk Utility erase tab for hard disk is missing after accidental OS deletion when installing Win 8.1 (BootCamp)

    Hi there everyone,
This is my first post and I hope I can get this issue resolved with your help .
So the issue that I am having is that my Disk Utility is not showing giving me the option to reformat my entire hard drive.
The reason I want to this is because my Boot Camp Assistant won't partition my drive. This error comes up:
So after looking through the internet and forums i couldn't resolve this Boot Camp issue. So I decided to try and just wipe out my whole disk but as you can see I am unable to do that.
Prior to this issue, I had tried to download Windows 8.1 using a bootable USB stick and have accidentally deleted my Macintosh HD partition from the Windows install menu by opening up a terminal (fn+option+F10 was the key used to open up this terminal if I remember correctly).  I was pretty upset about that, thankfully I have a backup around. Not knowing what to do I proceeded to installing Windows 8.1 anyway. Half way through the installation there was an error which I did not record. I simply exited the installer and proceeded to the Recovery System start up menu and it installed a version of OS X Lion from the internet. Then I installed Yosemite thinking everything is OK.
I decided to try to install Windows 7 now and the issue mentioned at the beginning ensued. Previously there was a disk0s1 and disk0s2 that can be seen from the Disk Utility but I could delete one of them. The other one I could only erase but could not delete the partition itself. From terminal i determined these two partitions were from the previous Windows installation attempt. The size was relatively small for both.
I ran a disk repair for the Macintosh HD volume and this error pops up:
I am using MacBook Pro (15-inch, early 2011) with:
