Palm OS to iCal importing

Nothing I have tried to trouble shoot this issue has resulted in succes. When I import my calendar data from Palm Desktop (latest version) as an export and then import into iCal I get all of the appointments I've had for the last three years displayed in one single calendar day. Heart attack city. Any help please?

What are you talking about?
Support is available simply by filing a support request by electronic mail. The application itself is thoroughly documented with a User Guide, Help file and installation and setup wizards. Your short note indicates that you either did not read this material, or did not understand it.
There is nothing to 'remove' to return to synchronizing with the Palm Desktop or with iSync, though you must remove—as is documented in the User Guide—the Missing Sync using a supplied Uninstaller utility. As a consequence of the installation of the Missing Sync for Palm OS, both the HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor are replaced with Mark/Space components. Neither the Palm Desktop nor iSync will work without the original Palm components.
And, you don't synchronize your "Palm OS with iCal." You synchronize the contact, calendaring and task data on your Palm device either with the Palm Desktop using Palm-supplied conduits, or with the Address Book and iCal using iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit.

  • How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?

    Hello,
How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
I have a Palm Tungsten E handheld which just died.
Luckily, all my data is backed-up on my Palm Desktop V4.2.1.
I just bought an iPod-Touch, so I would like to easily transfer
all my data (Addressbook, Calendar, etc) from the Palm Desktop
on my Mac (OSX 10.5) to the equivalent Mac applications
(Address Book, iCal) which will then allow me to view and update
    them on my iPod-Touch.
How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    David

Hi David. The contact information is straightforward. Bring up your Address List in Palm Desktop, then select Export under file. You pick vCard as the format, and save the resulting file where ever. In Address Book, you then select Import --> vCards under file. You may need to edit things like birthdays by hand afterwards.
I am still working on the Calendar information.

    Hello there,
I found your question by looking for something similar regarding iCal and Facebook. I have figured out part of the answer:
You can export your Facebook events into many other scheduling programs, such as Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook, and Google Calendar. To do this, click the "Export" button that appears below the photo on any particular event‘s page, or go to the Events page and click the "Export Events" link to export all of your upcoming events. Save the events to your computer as an ".ical" file, and import the events using your preferred scheduling program. When exporting individual events, clicking the "Export" button may automatically import the event to your computer’s default scheduling program.

HOWEVER, this did not work with Safari (which brought me here). I was able to do it with Firefox though.
Let's see if it works for you.

  • Palm datebook to ical

I am no longer using my Treo 180, but I am very dependent on my palm desktop calendar. for scheduling. I went through a lot of "custom installing" of this older software to get it to work in Tiger, and it has worked with virtually no problem for a year. I would now like to move over to ical in order to be current and to be able to move up to Leopard more effortlessly in the future.
How to I accomplish this? I am running 10.4.9 on my imac G5. The palm desktop version is 4.0. I have already exported the datebook in a vCal format. What's next?
    Any advise will be appreciated.

OK, so I can see that question has struck out for replies, so let me try a new one.
I tried to import the vcal file and it was a total disaster. All the events repeated themselves, all color coding disappeared, dates were wrong and I am looking for another solution. Is there another way to get this info from palm desktop into ical - perhaps by syncing instead of export/import? Can I do it from the handheld device instead?

  • ICal import not importing all dates...

I am attempting to create a calendar in iPhoto 08 using the iCal import option. For some reason, not all the records from iCal are getting imported. I selected all the iCal calendars in the "Settings" section but still cannot get them all to import.
    Any suggestions?

  • Console: mdworker "In the ICAL importer" * 8'000

Leopard is still as completely broken here as it's been since the beginning. After a pause of a few weeks when I did a clean re-install of 10.5, it's back to the routine of multiple daily OS freezes.
After a cold reboot, I have the pleasure of seeing my disks reindexed by Spotlight, happily sapping away my CPU time, several times per day.
I notice that as a new kind of fun distraction, Leopard has now started writing
    {quote}09.01.08 15:53:26 mdworker[474] In the ICAL importer
    09.01.08 15:53:26 mdworker[474] In the ICAL importer

    09.01.08 15:53:35 mdworker[474] In the ICAL importer{quote}
into my Console when re-indexing the TimeMachine disk volume. Of course, to make it real fun, once or twice is not nearly enough... I get about 6'000 to 8'000 of these entries.
Can anyone perchance tell me what this could possibly mean, what is going wrong again now with this utter miserable failure of an OS? (Yes I freely admit I'm sick+tired of these silly games.)

This is a consequence of the last MailTags public beta (PB 3)-- it is a log line that was inadvertently left in the MailTags mdimporter. I will be issuing a fix later this week. You can disasble this by removing the MT_iCal.MTExtra file from ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/MailTags Extras folder.

  • ICal Import Failed Multiple validation errors occurred.

I am trying to move my old iCal calendars that used to sync fine to the new ones to sync to mobile me
I exported each calendar but when I try to import each I get
iCal Import Failed Multiple validation errors occurred.
It occurs whether or not I choose to keep or remove unsafe alarms.
I have deleted iCal caches etc.

i'm having this problem as well. (in addition to duplicate calendars of the ones i was able to manually import.) any help would be greatly appreciated.

this isn't really the way i had hoped to spend my saturday night, i'm really disappointed that ical didn't sync intuitively to mobileme--isn't that why i pay for a subscription?

  • ICal imports Palm all day events as 2 day events - easy to fix?

    Hi,
I want to make the switch from Palm desktop 4 to using iCal 3 but I've run into a problem. When I import the vcal exported from Palm, the iCal makes all of the all (one) day events into 2 day events.
Is there anyway to fix this so the all day event displays only on the day it was set for in Palm?
I'm hoping I don't have to do all of these by going back to my oldest events and changing the dates by hand because I have almost 9 years of data in my Palm calendar.
    Thanks.

Just to update what I've been trying without success.
I exported the Palm datebook as .csv file. I then edited any entries that began and ended the same day without any times, i.e. the one day all day events, to begin at 12:01am and end at 11:59pm. Then after backing up my Palm user data and prefs, I erased my Palm data and reimported this .csv file into Palm desktop, then I reexported it to a vCal and imported that into iCal.
It made a mess out of things because I discovered some of these all day events also repeated. I'm not sure what to do with repeating events.
I tried going into iCal and manually changing the events but then I end up with many duplicates if they are repeating.
I exported the iCal data and opened it in Text Wrangler. Then I exported the calendar from Sunbird. It seems like the iCal is adding an extra "end date" that isn't in the file when I import it into Sunbird.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Import Palm calendar to iCal

I would like to import Palm calendar 4.2.1 into iCal.  Both are on an iMac 10.6.8 Any ideas?

Thanks, Niel. One follow-up, if you don't mind....does your response mean that once the calendar file on the Mac was created, adding items to the iPhone were considered a separate calendar file? If so, is it possible to have just one calendar file that is shared between the Mac and the iPhone?
    Thanks.

  • Why can't I sync my Palm Desktop with iCal?

When I enable iSync for my Palm (Tungsten E2, Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev.D) it disables the conduits I need to sync my Palm Desktop calendar information (Date Book, Tasks, To Do, etc.) with anything else. So when I make a change on Palm Desktop it doesn't even show up on the Palm handheld, much less on iCal. Can I move these "iSync Disabled Conduits" (Date Book, Tasks, To Do, etc.) back into the "Conduits" folder without creating a conflict? I've tried various solutions on the Mac Support site without much luck so far. Does this problem have something to do with OS 10.4's unique issues with syncing? Or is iCal supposed to REPLACE Palm Desktop, not be synced with it?

    Hello kongoscar,
If you are making the jump from Windows to Mac, it might be easier for you to export your data from the Windows side using a comma separated values (.csv) file and importing that data into the PIM application on the Mac.  The Palm Desktop software for the Mac, is, in my opinion, terrible (and I'm a Mac user).
    Alan G
Thanks so much for your reply, Alan G. I am not planning on using the Palm Desktop for the Mac once I get all the data from my Palm into the Macs. I am going to use the Mac software, like iCal and contacts, and probably Bento3 in place of the Palm Memos database, and I HOPE (not sure whether I will like it or not) to use my iPhone in place of the Palm, but I am not yet ready to ditch the Palm until I satisfy myself that the iPhone can do all the calendar and personal database functions as well as what I am used to with the Palm. So this data transfer quandary is not really about transferring the data to the Mac so I can continue to use my Palm and Palm Desktop software as I always have - it is about getting it to the Mac in a way that I can easily then export/import the data into iCal, Address Book/Contacts, and Notes or Bento3. My assumption is that would be easier doing imports from Palm Desktop on the Mac rather than imports from the PC, but maybe that is wrong. For instance, if I do an export from the PC of the Palm's calendar function  and import that into iCal on the iMac, will all the alarms and repeating copies of entries also make it over? Or would the alarms and repeaters more likely make it into an import into iCal if it came from data that was already on the Mac in Palm Desktop for the Mac? It odes seem that the Palm software for the Mac is not as good as it is for the PC, that Mac OSX does not support the Palm as well as earlier versions of Mac OS, and that there are all these problems with syncing on the Mac, from what I've read on the forums.
Given my admittedly rambling description above, do you have any other advice for me?

  • Palm desktop to ical to iphone

call me clueless, but i cannot figure out how to export my calendar (or my contacts) to an apple application that can then up synched with the iPhone. when i choose export in palm, neither iCal nor address book show up as an option.

For the contacts what I did was to export to my desktop from the Palm (T|X, and In Palm desktop for Mac 4.2.2) using the Address option for Module and the vCard option in Format.
For my date book (in monthly) I exported to my desktop in vCal.
Then I imported the contacts to my address book on my iMac as group labeled "contacts." These I them copied to my iPhone during the sync process.
For the date book I imported them directly to my iCal on my desktop and them synched them with my iPhone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Palm Desktop to iCal

Recently got my iPhone4, so now can integrate all my apple apps, etc. To date have been using Palm Desktop 4.2.1 for calendar (covers many years). I'm happy to leave old data on this program as a sort of archive. But need to transfer current and future calendar data to iCal and thence to iPhone. Is there an app, or work around, that would accomplish this?
    Mike

Sorry I haven't used Palm Desktop for quite some time. If you do a Wikipedia search for ".ICS" you can read more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.ics
To export Calendar and Addressbook data out of the Palm Desktop software:
    Open Palm Desktop
    Open the Palm calendar
File > Export > Format vCal
    Open Palm Addressbook
    File > Export > Format > vCard
Export the files to your desktop for ease of access.
Once there you can import them into iCal and Addressbook respectively by going to File > Import.
    Hope that helps.

  • ICal Imported Events Don't Appear in One Calendar

    Hi,
I'm transferring data off my old Powerbook G4 with OS 10.4.11 to my new Macbook Pro with Lion 10.7.3, and I'm having a problem with importing iCal data.
When I did an iCal database backup import, 8 out of my 9 calendars seemed to be coming through, but one was not showing up at all in any view. So...
I tried to exporting this single calendar into Dropbox and importing it into my new computer's iCal. This attempt gave me an error something like "iCal can't read this file, no data has been transferred." So...
I tried a trick I read about, opening the .ics file in TextEdit, then changing the extension to .vcs and changing the second line Version:2.0 number to Version: 1.0. This only got some of the events into the new iCal, but definitely not all and with seemingly random results - some reapeating events missing, some one-time events, etc.
This is a real problem for me, as I do reference past events a lot. I can't get rid of the old stuff and move forward until I've shifted ALL of my data over, and many events from this calendar are missing.
Does anyone know what's up? Any fixes for this issue?
    Many thanks for any help!
    Dave

After 3.5 hours on the phone with applecare, I believe this problem of not syncing ical from ipod touch to the ical app is resolved. Here are the steps that made it happen for me:
Log out of main account and log into root account. If you haven't set up the root user yet follow the directions in your Mac Help on your computer. Make sure you understand the implications of setting up the root user account. You may want to disable the root user after you are done with this fix.
In Finder, navigate to /Users/(your account)/Library/Application Support and delete every folder in the Application Support directory that has the word 'Sync' in the folder's name.
Log out of the root account and back into your main account. Sync your ipod touch / iphone and see if this worked for you.
    Good Luck!

  • ICal import of .ics file and receive alarms error

I receive an error import failed, items cannot be deleted from alarms. This only happens every so often. How can I resolve?

    Hi,
Where do the .ics files come from? I believe iCal during event import scans the file for alarms it considers unsafe (some file action alarms etc.), it is probably an issue of it not being able to remove one of these if the .ics file is not formatted correctly.
When this happens is there any related information in your Console output (Applications > Utilities > Console). There should be something there that may indicate why it's happening.
