Palm Pre and Garmin Nuvi 765T

I have a Garmin Nuvi 765T and am trying to pair the pre with it.  However, the Garmin can see the pre but connection fails.  The garmin attempts, I guess, to use the passkey 1234 but the 2 never connects.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

I also have a Pre and as you mentioned, the Garmin sees the Pre but cannot pair (the pre never asks for pascode (1234) input.  It worked flawlessly on my Samsung Instinct.  The address book was transfered nicely!
Interestingly, I started with a 265WT and it synced with the Pre w/o problems.

  • Is it safe to charge my iPhone 4S with my Palm Pre and HTC charger?

Recently, I've lost the white charger that came with my iPhone 4S, but I still have the USB cable that originally came with it and I was wondering if it's safe to use the USB charger that came with my pervious Palm Pre and HTC EVO. The phone charges when I use these. But I'm not sure if it's safe to use these to charge my iPhone

    It is fine.

  • IPhone and Garmin Nuvi GPS

Besides my Motorolla headset, I managed to pair my iPhone to my Garmin Nuvi 360 GPS with no problems. This particular Nuvi model as well as some other Garmin models have Bluetooth built in. The benefits of this device is that besides the wonderful Nuvi GPS features, the device is also a car kit with speaker and microphone. What I found quite remarkable was that during the pairing, the entire phonebook I have on my iPhone came over as well. So, when someone on that list calls, their name comes up on the touch screen. Or if you want to call someone, either click through or search the directory on the Garmin. Very cool.
    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

iPhone works with my Garmin Nuvi 360 via bluetooth, downloaded address book and all, but after a day or two the connection stops working (iPhone says they’re paired, but Nuvi doesn’t show phone icon) and I have to manually set up the connection again. Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks.

  • Palm Pre and backwards Palm app compatibility? 64 bit OS - Vista or XP Pro -- compatibility -- ?

I am brand new to the board, so please bear with me if these questions have already been addressed elsewhere.
The announcement of the Palm Pre might have just retained me as a Palm loyalist.  I was starting to look at BlackBerries, etc. for my next phone upgrade.  And then along comes the Pre.....which looks to be a Very Good Thing.  However, I have a couple of questions:
    1.  Will the Palm Pre be compatible with the apps that I currently have loaded onto my Palm TX?  Will a simple transfer of apps / data from the TX to the Pre be possible?
    2. Will I be able to sync the Pre with my Vista 64 bit laptop, or with my XP Pro 64 bit desktop?  Or does the Pre still lack 64 bit compatibility?  (Man, I hope that it will "do" 64 bit........)
To anyone who knows -- thanks.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Thank you for the responses in both cases, smkranz.  It's greatly appreciated.
Yes -- my Palm TX has served me well for a few years.  It's still functioning quite nicely.  However, I'd hate to have to manually re-enter all of the data that's stored in it into another device.  Plus I wouldn't want to give up several of the apps that I have installed on that device.
IMO, in many ways the TX 'anticipated' the Pre -- rotating screen (albeit manually set), and a list of other features.  Heh -- but these days, if a device is six months old -- then it's yesterday's news.  ;-)  The TX is a circa 2005 era device, IIRC.  So it's an ancient historical relic in today's world.  But I still like it.  A lot.  Few electronic devices that I've ever had the pleasure of owning have been as useful to me as the TX has.  That's why I hated the idea of switching brands......but I didn't see much choice, until now.  The Pre looks to be a real shot in the arm for Palm.  And for my continuing to use Palm's devices into the future.  The BlackBerry Strom was a real disappointment.  And I don't like iPhones.  But I don't think that the Pre is going to disappoint.  If the device lives up to its promise: then I think that we'll have a top-notch winner on our hands.  A great replacement for my venerable TX.
Heh -- the first thing that I loved about the TX was the ability to download & read ebooks while traveling.  One TX in the pocket is a lot easier to carry around than a suitcase full of hardback novels.  The Pre looks to take that 'convenience factor' to a whole 'nother level..........
Now......if only I can get the legacy Palm OS apps to work with it, and it syncs up with my 64 bit PC's: then everything will be right with the world.........
    Thanks again for the help.

  • IPhone and Garmin Nuvi 660 pair!

Thought I would mention that the iPhone successfully pair with the Garmin Nuvi 660 via Bluetooth, AND all of the address book entries (including multiple numbers) gets transferred to the Nuvi for use. Great feature to dial while on the road without even taking the iPhone out....

I have not had any problems; I get in-and-out of the car and each time the two devices have successfully paired. I once turned off BT for a while in the iPhone but had no problems when I turned it back on and then later got in the car to go somewhere. I keep my Nuvi plugged in all the time -- maybe that makes a difference? Do you unplug your Nuvi when leaving the car and then replug it when starting out again?

  • Site too small on New Palm Pre and Blackberry Pearl

I have a site that is pretty simple. It contains no tables accept for forms and input buttons. And isn't overloaded with CSS. It was orginally designed for keypad devices and has a width of 176px. Everything is spaced by either <p> or <br> tags with no use of <div> tags. The site loos fine on most phones except for the Pre and Pearl. It shows up on the screen probably is no bigger than a 1/8" high in the upper left corner.
Does anybody know what the problem is?
    Thank you, Brian

  • Garmin Nuvi 765T Bluetooth Phantom Unknown Caller Issue...

I recently got a new Nuvi and synced it with my Storm. It worked great until I did some voice dialing via the Nuvi interface. Now, every time the 2 pieces sync up with one another over bluetooth, I see a phantom incoming call from "unknown caller"...it doesn't matter whether I push accept or ignore, the Garmin accepts the call and treats it like a real call, preventing me from placing any out-bound calls through the Garmin unit. I'm asking here because the Garmin folks knew nothing about the issue. I'm thinking it may have something to do with blackberry/Garmin interaction? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

i have exactly the same problem with the nokia 5800 & the garmin 765t.  One of the reasons i chose this unit was for the handsfree capability.   Surely the latest nokia xpressmusic should be compatible - according to Garmin the xpressmusic 5610 is.  Like BuNka i can accept calls via the unit, but not make them - i get a message on the phone when i dial out on the 765t but it quickly disappears and the call isn't made, though just once it did actually make a call, but i can't get it to repeat that. I have tried pairing both ways, i.e. phone to satnav, and satnav to phone - makes no difference, and also, when the satnav is paired it changes the default handsfree on the phone to  bt handsfree device (?). To get it back to normal i have to unpair the devices.  I have the latest firmware/software on both devices.
Another problem is that when the units are paired, the first incoming call i get rings on the satnav & the phone. But for subsequent incoming calls the phone doesn't ring or vibrate even though these are set on, and the satnav makes no sound either. The incoming call is shown on both units, but there is no alert tone.  I missed several calls before i realised this was happening. To get the phone to work properly i have to unpair the 765t on thre phone then switch the phone off and on again.  This is really **bleep**!!!!!!!!!!!!  I have emailed garmin but they aren't much help - they just say the phone isn't in their compatible list.. which it isn't.. but it SHOULD be!!  I guess the message is if you have a nokia 5800 dont expect handsfree from the Garmin 765t....

  • E65 and Garmin Nuvi 215

    Hi y'all
I just bought a Nuvi 215 which i love - first proper gps and i dont know how I
    lived without before!
I have got 2 problems regarding connecting with my E65
    1) I cant get the phonebook/contacts on my phone to show on the nuvi.
I have searched the forum for solutions - I cant get my phone to send the
marked cantacts to the gps - i get 'sending failed' message on the phone.
Have tried downloading the 810 contact app but it is in a permanent state of 'processing'...
2)When I hang up a call on the nuvi the volume has been reduced to
almost nothing even though its still on the 70% on the volume menu.
This also happens when the phone first pairs with the gps, and seems to
do it at random times too.
    Any help will be appreciated!
    thanks,

I have not had any problems; I get in-and-out of the car and each time the two devices have successfully paired. I once turned off BT for a while in the iPhone but had no problems when I turned it back on and then later got in the car to go somewhere. • HT4623 I have a message on my ipad 2 which is stuck on the face of it stating regarding icloud backup. I missed the IOS update on my palm pre and I trying hard to get everything to work again. any suggestions?

my ipad 2 is stuck with an icloud back up message stating that it hasn't been backed up lately. Nothing I do will make it close or go away. Hotmail is y email account on my phone and icloud runs somehow through hotmail and since I missed the easy EOS update before the 26th of July I'm in trouble. Any suggestions?

A reset should help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo reappears, release both buttons and await restart.

  • Getting iCal and Address Book onto Palm Pre (if you use Missing Sync)

If you use Missing Sync to sync your address book/iCal to your Palm, it looks like you will have to setup a Gmail account and a Google calendar.  You can then export your iCal calendars to a folder and import them into your Google calendar from the web.  Download a free trial of Spanning Sync to sync your contacts (only!!) to your Google contacts and then your Palm Pre should be able to subscribe to your Google calendar and your google contacts (Which should be identical to your iCal). The only question from here is how any new contacts or appointments on your computer will sync to the Pre.  Maybe Missing Sync will come out with something.
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

I'm running Missing Sync 1.0.2 for Palm Pre and WebOS 1.4.  It seems to work but it is really slow - takes 11 minutes to sync my contacts and calendars over a fast wifi connection.  I have about 1000 contacts and a complex calendar, but i'm only syncing 2 months past and future.
i opened a ticket about this, we'll see what happens.
Does anyone have any experience with the speed of Missing Sync over wifi prior to webOS 1.4?  This is a new device, i updated it to 1.4 immediately before installing Missing Sync.

  • Various error messages when trying to sync my Palm Pre with my OWA

I have read several of the postings and I believe I have tried everything. The odd thing is that it worked prior to me being married. When I brought the phone I just entered my work email address and password and it worked instantly. Then at the end of June I got married and changed my name. When I change my name with my company they gave me a new email address. And a alert popped up on my phone stating that I needed to change my info. So I put in my new email and the same password and it states that it can't validate the account information. So I tap to set it up manually. I put in my new username, the domain, the OWA web address, and the same password. And then I get the SSL Certificate Error: check the date and time. After discussing with our IT guys, I try all the various emails I have in the system (4 total: 2 due to a change in the company name last year and two due to my name change). I get the same SSL Certificate Error. Then I download the certificate from my computer to my palm pre and took the "s" off of the https:// as one of the posting suggested. and now I am getting "unable to validate account settings. Please check the settings and try again" message. I tried all the different email addresses again just in case it was an issue of my email address not matching the domain name, but I still get the same "unable to validate" message. I'm at a lost because it really shouldn't be an issue of the cert, because it worked perfectly fine before I got married and change my name. So I can only assume that it's an issue with my email address, domain, and username. But I've tried all of them and nothing works. And suggestions would be helpful.

I seemed to have figured it out...... I hard reset my Iphone and rebooted my computer and it seemed to work. It also seemed there was a music file that was not being recognized, I just erased it and everything worked fine after that.... very strange but I am so glad I figured it out.....

  • THE ULTIMATE PALM PRE POOR SIGNAL ISSUE THREAD

The previous thread I posted can be deleted.  This thread has everything people need to read.  Here is the conversation I just had with Palm about the rampant signal problems everyone is having with their Palm Pre phones (side note, they say they'll be calling me back in a few days.  I'll assume they mean BUSINESS days and i'll post here again tuesday or wednesday if I don't hear from anyone.) :
    1:56 AM Connecting...
1:56 AM Connected. A support representative will be with you shortly.
1:57 AM Support session established with Sabino.
1:57 AM Sabino: Hello David. Thank you for contacting Palm. My name is Sabino.
    1:57 AM David Doria: hi
1:58 AM Sabino: I understand that you are facing issues with weak signals.
1:58 AM Sabino: Am I correct?
1:58 AM David Doria: yes.  weak, and also erractic.  sometimes i will get full bars, and then it will jump to one bar, or none...then be roaming, then Ev, then 1x...all in the SAME spot
1:58 AM Sabino: I’m sorry for any trouble this may have caused.
1:58 AM Sabino: May I know since how long you are facing this issue?
1:59 AM David Doria: as long as i've been using a palm pre, but it is getting worse with time.  i've been using a palm pre since october of last year
2:00 AM Sabino:  Let me know the webOS version on the device and your carrier name.
2:01 AM David Doria: whatever the latest OS is.  1.4.whatever.  and i'm with sprint
2:01 AM Sabino: This seems to be the issue with the network, all the network related issues were taken care by your carrier. I suggest you to contact Sprint. They will be able to fix the issue.
2:01 AM David Doria: um, you said that before i even told you what carrier i'm using
2:01 AM Sabino: I just pulled the details using your phone number.
2:02 AM David Doria: you know that isn't true.  you know it's not sprint
2:02 AM David Doria: i just told you all my other phones with sprint worked fine here and i've only been having problems since i got a palm pre
2:02 AM Sabino: Okay, contact your carrier, they will be able to fix the issue.
2:02 AM David Doria: i've lived here for 4 years and i've had sprint all 4 years
2:02 AM David Doria: no they won't.  i've been contacting them for weeks.  they came out and checked the tower TWICE now.  there's nothing they can do.  it's a hardware issue for palm
2:04 AM David Doria: there are threads all over the internet with hundreds of people complaining about having signal issues ONLY since they bought a palm pre.  now you're telling me it's a sprint issue and you haven't even looked at my phone yet.
2:05 AM Sabino:  What I would like to do, is place your case into a special team that develops technical solutions. They will do further research on it. They would be in touch with you once they have further updates. I cannot commit to a specific callback period, but please know that we are working on your case. May I do that for you?
2:06 AM David Doria: no, because i saw someone in one thread say that palm told them the exact same thing...in 2009
2:06 AM David Doria: so you're basically saying you're forwarding the problem to a generic department to a generic person that i can't know the name of, with no contact info, and that there is no guarantee when they will contact me IF they even will contact me...but i should definitely believe they are working on the problem
2:06 AM Sabino: What exactly you want me to do now?
2:06 AM David Doria: that's ridiculous
2:07 AM David Doria: i want you to tell me why palm is not fixing this problem with the palm pre and is instead telling me it is sprint's problem and then pretending to forward the issue to another department which has already had years to fix the issue
2:08 AM Sabino: As I stated, all the network related issues are taken by carrier.
2:09 AM David Doria: it's a hardware issue
2:10 AM Sabino:  I am going to tell you about our 2 repair options:
    2:10 AM Sabino:
    1.  Repair return: After I create your service repair order, you receive an email with the details on how and where to ship your device for repair. The email also contains info on the follow-up process. After the repair center receives your device, you’ll receive a working device in another 5-7 business days.
    2. :”With the advance exchange option, we ship you a replacement device first, and then you return your defective device to us using a prepaid label. There is a $29.95 fee for this special service but you get a replacement device within 3-5 days.
2:10 AM David Doria: you can't even KNOW it's a network issue without looking at the phone, and all evidence points to hardware since other phones on the same carrier work fine
2:10 AM Sabino: Please go through the above 2 options.
2:10 AM David Doria: this is my SEVENTH palm pre phone, sabino
2:11 AM David Doria: as many others in forums will tell you, they have also replaced their phones MULTIPLE times hoping to fix this issue.  nothing works.  there is SOMETHING physically wrong with the reception capability of the palm pre
2:12 AM David Doria: dude, stop copying and pasting what palm tells you to say and listen to me.  these phones do NOT work.  there is something majorly wrong with them and palm is cheating people out of hundreds of dollars a piece to save themselves the cost of a fix.
2:13 AM Sabino: Please hold on while I transfer the chat to our Supervisor.
2:13 AM David Doria: thank you
    2:13 AM Sabino: You’re welcome.
2:14 AM Transferring session to another technician...
2:14 AM Support session established with Saben.
2:14 AM Saben: Hello David, this is supervisor Saben.
2:15 AM Saben: Please stay on hold while I go through the chat.
2:15 AM David Doria: hello, saben...i urge you to read the conversation i just had with sabino so i do not have to explain the situation again.
2:15 AM David Doria: ok, thank you
2:15 AM Saben: Thank you for staying on hold.
    2:16 AM David Doria: sure
2:16 AM Saben: I understand that you are facing network issues with the phone.
2:16 AM Saben: Am I correct?
    2:16 AM David Doria: no
2:16 AM David Doria: i am facing signal issues.  my network is functioning just fine
    2:16 AM Saben: Okay.
2:16 AM Saben: Did you try any troubleshooting steps?
2:17 AM David Doria: yes.  i reset my phone...tried NEW phones...updated...updated PRL...etc...tried 2G only, restarting the phone after removing the battery, tried going outside...tried going a few blocks down.
2:17 AM David Doria: i can't even count how many things i have tried.  something is wrong with the palm pre
2:18 AM Saben: Did you try with the webOS doctor?
2:18 AM David Doria: i've tried every software solution i can find
2:19 AM Saben: I am sorry, I just want to know did you run the webOS doctor tool?
2:19 AM David Doria: i've been talking to sprint about this for WEEKS now.  in case you didn't read the conversation, they've already come out to check the local tower twice now
2:20 AM Saben: Okay. It seems that you did not use the webOS doctor tool on the device to check the issue.
2:20 AM David Doria: yes.  the local sprint repair center used the tool when my phone froze during an update
2:20 AM David Doria: yes i did
2:20 AM Saben: Okay. Thank you for the information.
2:20 AM David Doria: you're welcome
2:20 AM Saben: Then it seems need a repair.
2:20 AM David Doria: but this is my 7th palm pre phone.
2:20 AM David Doria: they have all done this

2:22 AM David Doria: are you guaranteeing me that they will call?

Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

So they finally called me back, but I didn't get the call because.....I had no signal.  HAHA
I got their voicemail and called back.  First, they tried telling me YET AGAIN that it was Sprint's problem.  They said that if I call Sprint, they will give me a device to boost signal in my home.  I said, "That's fine, but what do I do when I'm in the rest of the country?"  Then they told me it was a software problem and that I need to run WebOSdoctor to reinstall the operating system.  I told them that this is my 7th Palm Pre.  I told them that Sprint already used the Doctor...like I told the online tech people.  But this guy on the phone wasn't having it.  He told me that he didn't think Sprint was able to do that (so I can, but Sprint can't =/?) and that I should do it just to be sure.  He said if that doesn't work that they will try out a NEW Palm profile and see if that fixes it.  If neither of those works, he basically admitted there are no other options.
I asked him if there is some sort of way they can physically upgrade the antenna system with a better material or placement and he said that Palm has no department able to do that.
I told him about the various threads online like this one, where dozens of people complain about the same  issue.  He told me to just do the WebOSdoctor and call him back.   I asked him if this has fixed signal problems for people previously and he said that he doesn't get to know the end result of his suggestions to customers.   How unprofessional is that?  How is the guy supposed to get better at his job if he's not allowed to find out if the fixes he suggest to people actually work?  That seems nuts to me, but i digress.
I haven't tried the Doctor yet.  I'm going to, but I'm just being lazy because I know it won't work, and it's going to be really annoying to update my phone and backup photos first and all that good stuff.
I will post back after I run the doctor and try the new Palm profile.  Until then, I'd REALLY suggest you all do what I did and call Palm, insisting they fix the problem, even if it means a recall.  They aren't gonna do it just for me, no matter how many times I complain.  That's a fact.
If anyone DOES call Palm, it would probably be a good idea to bring up this thread and also to post here about what they tell you!

  • Transfer Data from PalmOne Zire31 to the new Palm Pre?

Hi all, I've done some research to see how I can transfer the calendar and the contacts on my PalmOne Zire31 to my new Palm Pre and find PocketCopy from Chapuro to help do that without loosing the info on the PalmZire 31. I was wondering if anybody knows how to do that without paying 24$ for the Chapuro software?
    Please help me!!!
    Thanks

You will need to sync your handheld to Palm desktop to make sure the data in Palm desktop is current. Download and install Palm desktop 6.2, you need this version for the Palm Data Transfer Assistant tool. Here is the link; http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/32859_en.html
Setup a gmail account for your data.  You have 3 options for your data transfer, transfer to the palm profile, exchange server account or Gmail. The palm profile has experienced some data loss issues at this point so I would highly recommend using gmail.
Go to this link and download the Data Transfer Assistant; http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/pre/migration/moveontophone.html
Select to sync with your gmail account.
For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.

  • Palm pre Hotspot

Hi- I have the palm pre and was wondering can the mobile hotspot be used as mobile broadband connection?   2) Are there any extra fees associated (other than the data plan) 3) How secure is it?   When traveling does the connect incur roaming fees?

I just got my Palm Pre Plus this week. I can answer some of your questions. I had a pay as you go USB mobile broadband from another company. I used my built in hotspot today, was up and going in less than a minute (set up and connecting). I set a password though because as soon as I connected someone close by connected...my phone beeped and it showed someone connected so I shut it off set the password and reconnected. It runs faster than the pay as you go from the other company did.
As for price, it does not use your data plan, it is separate. Did you get your phone with the special of the mobile hotspot free (5gb limit per month, and charged per mb over that limit? Otherwise I believe they told me it was $30 a month value.
I'm not sure about the roaming charge question, someone should come along with the answer to that. My guess is depending on your plan, I don't get any roaming charges call wise so I don't believe I would with the hotspot but as I said I just got my phone and loving it.

The Bell Palm Pre is a CDMA phone while Rogers is GSM and unforutnately we currently do not have a GSM Pre in Canada yet.  The Palm Pre 2 in Canada is GSM and will be avail soon.  Check it out here.
