Palm stopped synchronising after last update

Hi there,
I use a Sony Clié as my palm. It worked with no hitches, up to now--since the last greater update (udev and kernel26), it can't connect using either jpilot or the gnome-pilot-applet/evolution. In the gpilotd-control-applet, the cradle device is set to /dev/tts/USB1. Now, if I hit the hotsync button and do a ls -l /dev/tts, no USB1 appears.
/var/log/kernel says:

Now, how do I find out where in /dev my palm is when connecting it to the PC? Any ideas?

Are you (or is anyone) having problems with this again? I'm finding /dev/tts/USB1 is not being created when I plug the palm in, but now visor is indeed loaded. Further, the kernel isn't even trying to recognize it, nothing about it in dmesg or /var/log/messages and lsusb isn't showing it. I'm trying to determine if this is a general problem for people since the last kernel release, or if I'm having troubles with my USB controller again, its been sketchy... Maybe I need a new cable.

Thank you. My K750 number pad stopped working on my iMac. The keyboard and number pad 'do' work on a different Mac, so I suspect it is some setting on the iMac. I did a Safe Mode start, reset the SMC, and repaired the disk permissions. The dongle was plugged into an USB Hub. It is now plugged into the iMac USB port. The keyboard has a 90% charge, but still does not work. Then suddenly it started working again, but stopped after about one month.
I found your "Accessibility>Mouse and Trackpad" suggestion and deselected "Enable Mouse Keys". My number pad works again.

Screen sharing stopped working after last update

Hello all,
I have run software update yesterday, and there were about 10 downloads (I run this weekely, so these must have been new ones). The thing is that after installing all the updates, one of the features that I use more frequently, screen sharing, stopped working properly. I have a Mac Book Pro and an I Mac, both running on Snow Leopard, and screen sharing has always worked just fine, but not after the latest update.
I checked passwords and they are all right, and also checked sharing properties and all seems to be fine. I can share files all right, but for screen sharing now is only possible by setting the option "anyone may request permission to control screen" (under sharing>screen sharing>computer settings) to on, and ask for authorization each time I need to share screens, not good, mainly if you have the computers in different rooms.
Finally, I own an Me account, so I tried sharing screen via Back to my Mac, but it didn't work either.
Can anyone help?

Problem solved!
After working with Apple, I have an answer. It looks like the 10.10.2 update changed your firewall settings. Try this:
System Preferences>Security and Privacy>Firewall Options
Scroll down the list till you find "screensharingd". If it's marked as block in coming connections, change it to allow incoming connections.
Be sure to reboot your computer and you should be good to go!

Middle-mouse paste function stopped working after last update

I think FireFox was updated last night. Ever since then my middle mouse paste function doesn't work any more.
I haven't installed any addons or changed settings either.
I'm talking about: about:config > middlemouse.paste = true
I've tried toggling it etc. but nothing I can do changes it. Any ideas?

Command line option "-save-to-folder" stopped working after last update: Any workaround?

Running FF on Linux, I was using the -save-to-folder option at CLI to write a copy of the webpage to file with JS content rendered. Worked great until the recent update (to v.27.0.1).
Typical format was: firefox url -save-to-folder filename
When things break, the fixes sometimes happen quickly, sometimes not. In the meantime, anyone have a workaround?

It will depend if your Linux build was compiled by a third party. Typically if a function like that stops working, uninstalling might be a good option, but maybe not in this case.

First of all, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant by using the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the following link - this is particularly useful in correcting issues that may prevent reinstallation on machines running a 64bit OS.

TC guest network stopped working after last update

Hi, I got the new 2TB TC. And it was working fine. Since I updates it to 7.7.3. The guest network stopped assigning IPs. I can see it and change the settings but I can't join it anymore. It was working fine before.
I Am setting it from iOS devices not a Mac.
The TC is in bridging mode.
I Also tried restoring it to default settings.
Any ideas how to fix this?

I had it working right out of the box when I bought it, there was no double NAT warning or error message, unlike now I have to ignore the double. NAT error message for the light on the TC to turn back to green again.

Ducking stopped working after last update

I had a project I created last summer where I used the ducking feature throughout. It was working great. The sound clip was at full volume, ducking was selected, and as desired and selected all other clips were reduced to 15% volume.
Today I opened the project and played through. The portions where ducking was selected are now functioning the OPPOSITE as intended. The sound clip itself is ducked and all the other clips are full volume.
When in iMovie and click the gear for the clip, it says next to the "ducking" checkbox, "reduce volume of OTHER tracks to 15%". It's in fact reducing the volume of itself to 15% and having NO effect on the other tracks.
Is there a solution to this?
Please, I already know of several workarounds... what I want to know is what caused this and if there's a real solution.

I have encountered the same problem (although I cannot say if it is due to a recent update).
And unfortunately, I do not have any idea what might have caused this or how to resolve it.
What makes this so weird is that I have other iMovie projects on the same machine using the same type of source files (DV video clips and separately recorded voice-overs in WAV format) where ducking works flawlessly - with the same settings.
I would really be grateful for a hint on what's happening here and how one might resolve this problem - it's a total show-stopper, as I cannot complete the project without pre-mixing all audio outside of iMovie, which would take ages.

After the recent update to ios 8.1.3 my Apple Camera connection kit has ceased to work, any one got any ideas why and a possible solution?

Is this a genuine Apple-made CCK or a third party one?

[Solved] ALSA stopped working after last update.

I'm using pekwm and a 32bit install at the moment. Volwheel will not allow me to adjust the volume. I can't run alsamixer even though it's installed. My username is a member of the audio group... And when I run alsaconf it will not recognize my sound card (HDA Intel).

Fixed. I reinstalled "linux" and "linux-headers" and rebooted. Everything's working now

I was going to upgrade my phone but need to clarify if it was the upgrade that broke my wifi and can it be fixed? I have heaed of Apple replacing phones affected by this problem. Please help

If those solutions don't work your iPhone 4s has developed a hardware problem. The permanent solution is to get it replaced. I have not heard of Apple replacing long out of warranty iPhones.
You can search the internet for heating and freezing solutions that might work (at least for a while).

Flash CC doesn't start up after last update

Flash CC doesn't start up after last update. It said "Training en zelfstudie" (Training and self-stufy in Dutch) for the update.
Everything was working fine before the update, now if I try to start-up Flash solo,
it says: "Flash werkt niet meer" (Flash has stopped working), and quits.
As you can probably tell from the message, I'm on Windows 7.
Now here is interesting info: if I double click a previous movie, then Flash starts up fine and loads the previous movie.
However when I close it and the screen that should appear is the "new movie" dialog, flash hangs again.
So obviously something went wrong installing the new update, or the update doesn't work properly.
I'm now working with my pre-cc flash5.5 version, which I re-installed to avoid crashing flash every time I close a file.
My questions:
1- Where do I log this problem? (Or am I in the right place?)
2- Can I re-install the previous version, which worked fine? (I can live without tutorials etc.)
3- Can I try to re-install this version if the above is not possible and how do I go about doing that?

What fixed the problem for me was just reinstalling Flash CC. I thought I'd give it a try, because I couldn't find a message of anyone experiencing the same problem.
So I used the control panel to uninstall Flash, then I tried reinstalling.
Creative Cloud kept saying Flash is up to date, so you can't reinstall. If you click on the gear and choose Exit and then restart Creative Cloud it will take a few seconds, but the it will see the situation as it is and you can reinstall Flash.
After the reinstall the issue was gone.
Thanks for the other solutions, I think this is a handy resource for rolling back Flash if I ever do need it
and gives me more confidence in the creative cloud product.
Maybe Adobe will pick it up and make it easier for us 'normal' creative-cloud users to
pick which version we want. Like you can do in CVS systems.

Display about 20% darker, Dim. Happened after last update.

My imac display is dim, kinda dark. Happened after last update and I have googled like crazy to find a solution, no luck so far. This is what i have done so far.
- I have tried several settings in the Energy Saver part of settings.
- Brightness is set to 100%
- I have tried several Display Profiles and also made my own.
- Did reset the PRAM, NVRAM several times.
- Even started it in safe boot etc..
- Reinstalled OS X completely
It seems like a software related problem. If i press sleep the screen of course goes black but the interesting thing is that when it wakes up it is back to the normal nice brightness for about 5-10 seconds then goes dim again.
Screen is at the normal brightness when using boot camp, windows.
Please if anyone has a solution, thank you.

I'm not convinced that it is a software issue, here's why: Our DVD burner stopped working so we brought it in to the local Apple store for repair. BTW the machine is 2 & 1/2 y.o. and yes, I purchased the extended warranty and I'm so glad I did (usually I pass on them). Anyway, they replaced the burner, we picked it up and when we plugged it in at home I noticed that the display was nice and bright and then went dim!
I proceeded to change the display brightness controls as well as the gamma settings. I got it to look better (still not as bright as prior to repair) but it still got bright and then dim after waking.
Since there were no software issues with the burner replacement, other than perhaps some drivers for the burner???, I attribute it to the repair!
Just my $0.02 and would welcome any suggestions as to what it is and how to resolve the issue.
