Palm treo 700w

I have a treo 700w that I used with verizon wireless. I recently switched to At&t because of better coverage. I understand that the two systems are different. Can the treo 700w be reprogrammed to be used on the at&t system?

as far as i know, verizon is using CDMA network while ATT is using GSM network. so it's impossible for the CDMA units to work GSM networks or vice versa.

  • Need Help Disabling Phone of Palm Treo 700w!!

    Hi all -
I recently bought a cheap, used palm treo 700w to use as a PDA only; I have specific programs that need to run on a windows mobile 5 PDA, and the treo was much cheaper than an ipaq or other handheld device. However, the phone still has the original owner's phone number saved, as well as their pin number. Even though the phone is no longer hooked up to any wireless carrier services, I'm concerned that one of my children is going to pick up the phone and make an emergency call or somehow interfere with the original owner's current phone since the phone number is still saved. Is there a way to completely disable the phone features of the palm treo 700w and still use the PDA, not just "turn off" the phone by pressing the power button but preventing it from being used as a phone completely? Thank you so much!!

Thank you!  That certainly seems to be the one I have, and the age isn't important for what I need.  Now, though, that leads to the next issue, which is that I can't sync my contacts and calendar, although I think I've figured out why for myself.  Still, it generates another question.
I am currently using Palm v 4.2.1 on my desktop (Mac 10.4.11)  I bet it's too new, isn't it?  Is it going to be possible for me to back off to Palm 4.0 without losing the information that's currently stored in 4.2.1?  I don't mind installing an older version of the software (and I found the download), but if it means losing my information, I'll just pass this free Treo on to some other unsuspecting person.

  • J2ME for Palm Treo 700W

Hi, does anyone know of a J2ME environment which will work for this Windows Mobile device? Is there an IBM J9 version compatible with this device?

No, not with iSync, as it provides no support whatsoever for Windows Mobile or Pocket PC devices.
To support such devices, you must use a third-party application like the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile from Mark/Space or PocketMac from Information Appliance Associates. Both have promised updates to support Windows Mobile 5 devices like the Palm Treo 700w, but neither have released a completed, updated application to date.
Mark/Space is offering the opportunity to test an early alpha release of the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. More information about that application is available here:

That would be fruitless.  Palm does not unlock phones, only the carrer can do that!

  • Palm Treo 700w can't connect to the Internet

I upgraded my Treo 700w system to version 1.22 and now can't connect to the internet. Pop up window says my setting are correct, but I didn't change them and they appear to be exaclty as they were prior to the upgrade. Suggestions???

thanks, not sure what order of things I tried, but your suggestion was one of them and now I can connect. Now I just have to figure out what the friggin bluetooth connection "passkey" is. Everytime I try to connect to my laptop via bluetooth the phone asks me for the passkey and won't allow me to exit that screen. Even when I initiate the connection from the laptop it asks for the passkey on both ends, but at least on the laptop it gives me the option of NOT entering one unlike the phone which MUST have one. Where the *&*! is the phone's passkey? Any suggestions?

  • Palm Treo 700W Iwould like to use mac mail as a pop account, unable to send

I am able to receive mac mail messages on my Verizon Treo 700W, however, I am unable to send. I have the outgoing server set as smtp.vzwmail.com - is this correct?
I get an error of "Unable to connect to the outgoing mail server. Verify that the server name is correct, then try again to send and receive mail."
    Any ideas?

You will have to change your outgoing server settings. You will have to get an account at www.vtext.com (if you don't have it already). This will allow you to send mail. The account name will be your phone number [email protected] along with your user name and password. It's free to sign up.

  • PALM TREO 700W -SKINS FOR MEDIA PLAYER 10 MOBILE??

ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET ANY SKINS FOR FOR THE MEDIA PLAYER??? AND HOW ABOUT TODAY SCREEN THEMES? THANKS EVERYONE =) 160 CHARACTERS IN TEXT FOR  MY PALM TREO 700 W IS THERE ANYWAY TO MAKE IT EXCEED 1 PAGE INSTEAD OF HAVING TO SEND THE FIRST 160 CHARACTERS THEN CREATE A NEW MESSAGE FOR THE REST?

If I understand correctly, then the old Outlook 2003 is no longer available to you. If that's the case, then all of your information should have been taken from your local outlook 2003 and put into the new outlook 2007 exchange. The only way you can sync with exchange is by using EAS. You will need the server address, domain name, and the username/password you use to log into outlook. I expect you may not have some of this information, which is where your IT department will be able to fill in the blanks. You won't need to use the Treo for email, but now that outlook 2003 is gone, that isn't an option for your contacts/calendar/notes anymore. When setting up the EAS on your device, it will ask what you want to sync, and you can select/deselect the options you prefer.
Hope this clarifies things a little bit.

  • How do i PERMANENTLY wipe all my data off my TREO 700w to dispose of it?

Hi - Just got a new Palm Pre for x-mas and am getting rid of my old Palm Treo 700w.  How do i wipe off all data from my device so that I can safely give it away to charity w/o fear of my data being seen?  I have already done a hard reset, but I have heard that this is not good enough, that some programs out there can still get at my data....
    Please help!
    Thank you!!!!

You can use the factory reset application to erase all data on the Treo.

  • Treo 700w sms patch download not succeful on phone, phone wont download it

i have the palm treo 700w and i cant get anyone's text messages that dont use verizon, so i put the sms patch on my phone, but the phone wont download it successfully. any help will be appreciated.

Some advice from various locations on the web (use google).  Each works for some users, not all.  Give these a try.
Try to deauthorize the computer then authorize it.
select song or app. that's not authorized, itunes will ask for your password, enter password, click ok, and ok again. Done.
I had the same problem when I switched from my laptop to a macbook. What I figured out was that I had purchased applications under two different email addresses. You can click on one of the applications that is not syncing and go to "File" then "Get Info" to find out what email address you used to purchase those applications. Hopefully this helps.
Sometimes a reboot of either the computer or the iPhone or both fixes this, if you’ve authorized already.

  • Need help Please. Which play nice with macs? Palm Treo's Or Tmobile MDA?

Hi all, I post on here from time to time, but hardly anyone ever answers my questions. Here's my dilema. I bought a Tmobile MDA over the weekend that runs microsoft windows mobile 5.0. And while playing with it have noticed some things about it that i think are'nt that good. For example, I like the fact that its a windows os, but think that it's flawed. I have done quite a bit of research but don't think that it's active sync software is even compatible with mac osx. so have'nt even tried to mess with it. now i'm still in the 14 day window and am thinking about returning it. but here's the thing....
I know that tmobile has EDGE, and it's considerably slower than verizon or sprints EVDO. (since i've researched it i know that edge is around the 70-170KBPS range when EVDO has 300-700KBPS) And tonight i was messing with this tmobile MDA and finally got it to work to connect to the net with it using bluetooth and it's "modem" ability to connect it to the web. But it S U C K S! i went to and did a bandwith test and i was only getting like 12.1-27.1kbps download (after running 2 tests) dude, it feels slower than dialup!
so with that bullet against it, comes the compatible part. I can't sycn this thing with my mac for NOTHING! do any of you out there have a palm treo? (either verizon, sprint, or att.... carrier X?) How does it sync with your mac? is it hard? any extra software i need to get/buy? have any of you used it to connect to the net? and if so, how's the speed? And here's an even bettter question... How long did it take to config it to work using the phone as a modem? Did you use bluetooth? or serial link? was it easy to config? Where did you find the instructions?
I know these are a lot of questions, but this is a large investment for me. I mean this thing ain't cheap and it does'nt really play nice. I don't mind paying a little extra, for some peace of mind, and knowing that it won't crash often and will work with my mac. Anyone out there got any other suggestions? I would really appreciate it. I would like your opinion on which one is the easiest to use that plays nice with a mac, and has a interface that's almost as nice. Thank you so much for your time. I will be following this post closely and comment you all back for your replys

It really is a toss up cause Ive owned two Treo's and Ive read extensive reviews on Windows mobile devices and it seems to me like they're pretty similar in the way of hardware and software(minus the fact of using different operating systems). So I think the determining factor really ought to be more focused on how much you're willing to pay, and the level of support you get for each device. I recently got rid of my Treo 650 due to an interesting touchscreen problem and got a windows mobile device(should come tomorrow)
in the way of syncing with a mac:
The Treo is extremely simple to set up and use with a Mac(keep in mind Im not talking about the 700w/wx)in every aspect. Palm provides OSx compatible software(though its almost impossible to get rid of after installation). However, in my experience, Palm does not really do a good job in the customer service department. While they have a rather extensive support page for each device(some of the info is outdated), that's pretty much all you get unless you don't mind spending hrs scouring various forums. Talking to customer service is a joke. Like I said I had a problem with the touchscreen and the best the rep could give me was "try a hard reset" and "send it in for repair".
I have yet to experience what windows mobile will be like. At the very least with syncing, theres syncing software made by people who had OSx in mind(ie: Missing Sync or Pocketmac) who will probably be able to help out a lot more in this area and possible also be able to help out with the other issues you mentioned.
a good place to check out would be howardforums.com, you'll probably get better answers there.

  • Treo 700w - 0% battery, restarts, won't recharge - turns off

I'm having just about the exact same problem as this poster http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=hardware&thread.id=41303
When I plug the phone into the charger, it will go to the menu screen and count down 30 seconds before turning off.
I've tried 2 diffferent chargers, 2 different battery packs and none have worked.
When the phone is on for the 30 seconds, it says it's charing in the upper right corner, and gives the lighting bolt sign to symbolize that it is charging, but the light on the outside of the treo does not light up and it doesn't hold onto any charge.
    Thanks for any advice.

  • Treo 700w constantly acting like it has a dead battery

I'll start by saying I hope this is the right place for this.  Anyway to the problem, I bought a refurbished treo 700w about 3-4 weeks ago.  It worked great for about a week, then it would start to freeze often which could be cured by pressing the reset button.  Then that would no longer fix the problem and I would have to take the battery out and put it back in and then it would work normally.  Well after a couple days of that, I would have to remove and replace the battery several times before the phone would turn on and work normally.  Then one day, nothing would turn it on.  So I took the battery out and left it out for a few hours and then left it on the charger the rest of the day, (even though it had been on the charger all night). Finally, the next day it would turn back on after taking the battery out again.  Well, the next day I picked up a cradle hoping a upgrade to the OS would fix the problems I was having.  I upgraded the OS and the phone was working perfectly, It no longer froze every time I took it off the charger.  It just worked like I had expected it to from the beginning.  Then last night I came home put the phone on the cradle to charge, and now this morning it is acting like the battery is dead again, It won't respond to anything, the reset button does nothing, taking the battery out does nothing, so it is back on the charger again, hoping I can somehow get it to turn on in a few hours.  so anybody out there have any ideas?

Does the battery indicator show that it is low? If it shows good battery life remaining, it is not the battery.
Look on the Treo for the software version to see if you need the current update of the ROM software.

  • Cannot send email with Palm Treo Pro

    Hi,
We have a Palm Treo Pro that was previously configured to sync with exchange 2003 and at the same time also had an IMAP email account setup for another email address.  We have since removed the Exchange email account and only have the IMAP account configured.  Since removing the exchange account we can no longer send email from the phone, but can receive fine.  The error we get when trying to send is listed below.
"The message(s) could not be sent.  Check that you have network coverage and that you account information is correct then try sending again"
The connection is fine because we can receive email and browse fine.  The account information is also correct.  We are using the SMTP server settings for the phones provider and that requires no authentication.  I have also tried a different SMTP server with the appropriate user credentials but still get that message.
I have contacted the phone provider (Telstra) but they were no use.
We did have to load on a self signed certificate to get the exchange email working and I dont know whether this is causing any issues.
If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated
