Palm TX hard reset fails

I made the mistake of upgrading to the new Desktop V6.2. Seemed to be OK on my work PC, but, but when I tried to hot-sync at home, I got into a constant reboot loop. I have tried a hard reset several times with no effect: the Palm cycles between orange splash screen -> grey splash screen -> repeat.
OS=Windows XP Pro on both machines.
HELP!
Thanks!!

Glad it seems to have resolved.
Your single-best insurance against a loss of data resulting from a spontaneous hard reset, or even accidental deletion, is to use a SD card-based backup application.  The best one out there happens to also be free.  It's called NVBackup and is discussed frequently here on the forums.
Get yourself an inexpensive SD card if you don't already have one...any plain SD card up to 2 GB in size (not SDHC).  Download and install NVBackup from any respectable site (I think www.palmgear.com also has it).  When you run it the first time, it will also install a copy of itself onto your card.  From then on, you can do a manual backup whenever you want, and also set it to do an automatic backup overnight, say 3 am.  Even set it to retain certain number of backup cycles you designate (I have mine set to 3).
A backup takes a couple of minutes, depending on what's on your TX.
If you ever have to restore your data from a spontaneous hard reset or an accidental deletion of something important, you are literally minutes away from completely restoring your TX to any previous Backup point that's on your card.

  • Japanese IBM Workpad C3 (Palm Vx) Hard Reset Issue

Hello, I've run into a problem while trying to change the language of a PDA I've recently acquired.
Most instructions state to do a hard reset (hold down power, press reset with pin, wait for screen with warning that data will be erased).
However, when I follow those instructions, the screen goes to the Palm loading screen and then takes me to the "system menu".
It's a Japanese Wordpad C3, which should be identical to the Palm Vx in Hardware... but it's not. Does anyone know the instructions I have to follow for this type of PDA?
Here's a picture of the screen that I get when I attempt a hard reset. It has the options to change the time and date and so on. In the menu in the top left, I can select the top choice to go into calibration.
I hope someone can help me out with this, as I'm hoping the hard reset lets me change the system language to English.

    Ok try this sequence:
    1.  Press and hold the power button down.
    2.  While holding the power button down, press and release the reset button.
    3.  When you see the Palm Computing Platform logo on the screen, release the power button.
Erase all data should pop up here
    4.  Press the up button for yes.
That should do it.  Yes you need to hard reset to change the language but since your device is in Chineese, good change that maybe the only language it has since using a different alphabet.

  • Palm m505 hard reset with no hotsync...

Title says it all, but is the data lost forever or is there some way to get it back?
I'm not too concerned with saving the device, so if tearing out every memory chip is part of the solution, so be it.
If there is ANY way to undo this, I'd LOVE to hear it.
I can provide exact details of how this tragedy transpired if necessary, but the end result is explained above.
Also, I will be e$pecially grateful to anyone who can point me towards a recovery solution.
Disclaimer: Yes, I know I should have sync'd the data, but circumstances/events being what they were/are prevented it.

Sadly if the data only existed on the device and it hard reset then it's gone.

  • Hard reset fails on Tungsten T2

For a few years every so often my Tungsten T2 just quits and I have to do a soft reset on it. This time I tried a soft reset, a warm reset and a hard reset and nothing is bringing it back - anyone else have this happen? Any suggestions? I have not added anything new to it in several months. Thanks -

Is the device fully charged? If so there is nothing really to try at this point other than a repair/replacement. Unfortunately we no longer repair this device. I would suggest you looking into www.pdaparts.com.
Or you can call into Palm and we can give you an upgrade code to a new device. The number to call would be 866-935-7256

  • 7.1.2 update failed. Now my iPhone 5 is in recovery mode and hard resetting does not work for me. iTunes also will not detect my phone now

I did my 7.1.2 update via iTunes. Half way through it stopped working saying it does not detect my phone. Now my iPhone 5 is in recovery mode and hard resetting does not work for me. iTunes also will not detect my phone now

Thank you SO very much for posting this. I had the exact issue with my iPad Mini after the same upgrade. Hard reset failed, computer would not recognize iPad. I had read all the other instructions and nothing worked.... YOUR SOLUTION WORKED FOR ME - with a slight variation.
I followed your lead and connected my iPad Mini to another computer, fired up iTunes, it saw the iPad Mini in Restore Mode and allowed me to go into Restore (yes, it wiped all of the data but I have a back up on the other computer that would not see it after the failed update). It installed the latest iOS 7.1.2 as well. I then disconnected it from that computer, reconnected it to the computer that would not see it prior and it then saw it as a new iPad and allowed me to Restore my backup and now it's all good!
I detailed my steps only because you downloaded the previous version - 7.1.1 whereas I downloaded the latest version (7.1.2) and then restored my back up.

  • I cannot turn it on!!!n97.(problem with hard reset...

hi guys..this is my **bleep** prob..i had a n97..the problem is it wont start at all...ive tried the hard reset but it wont work as it could be..ive tried a million times to hard reset but it still cannot..the phone only stuck at the Nokia..then it stuck there forever until i get this problem solved..is they anyone that has any ideas about this thing..??

Erm.. I'm not quite with you johnjoel. From what I understand, the problem isn't sorted at all??
First, What was the inital problem, and when did it occure? - Did you install anything on it before it happened? Did you upgrade the fw?
Anyway, your phone's stuck on the boot screen. Usually there's nothing more to do other than take it to a Nokia care point as mccoy did, if the hard reset fails.
But do you have a memory card installed? If yes; pull it out and try another hard reset. if it works, you will most likely have to format the memorycard.
If you don't have a memorycard installed or the trick doesn't work; leave the memorycard outside the phone and pull out the sim-card too. Try another hard reset. - If the phone boots without it, but fails to boot with it, even when you've just performed a successfully hard reset, I would try another simcard if you have one spare. - If the phone does not work with that simcar either, you will have to take it to a Nokia care point.
If i did misunderstand you, and you have sorted it out, let me know by posting here, and I will remove this.
If youre not sure if you do the hard reset correctly; let me know.
    Cheers.

  • Rebooting Palm Z22 after hard reset

I have a Palm Z22. It was freezing and would not respond to taps so I did a Hard Reset. Now the screen is stuck on the first page where one has to tap on the centre of circles, bottom right and top left. It does not advance to the choosing the language, nor cannot I do a HotSync. I do have all my information on my computer. Can anyone help me advanceand be able to use my Palm Pilot?
    Lester
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Lester, check for a "screen wedgie" - grit caught between the frame of the device and the screen.  It could be causing phantom screen presses, and make the calibration routine fail.
Try using a slice of a credit card, or a piece of paper folded into a scoop.
Do you have a screen protector on it?  Try removing it.
It is possible your screen has failed...       Repairs would cost more than a new unit.

  • I need to hard reset a Palm TX but the Power button does not function.

I need to hard reset my Palm TX but the Power button does not function. Is there any other way to perform the hard reset or otherwise delete all of my data?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

    Hi,
PowerBtn from the Canuck Software HomePage.
NOTE: This is Not a Blazer friendly download and only for downloading using a Chunky Computer thingie.
    http://www.canuck-software.ca/
PowerBtn will allow you to set a HardButton to turn the TX on and off in the same fashion as the PowerButton, if you want.
This setting will remain active while 'Enable' on the PowerBtn screen is active.
The user can select 'Disable' on the PowerBtn screen.
The setting will survive a Soft Reset. (Hi PG )
If the Palm PowerButton fails completely then you will not be able to do a Hard Reset.
The PowerBtn app has a 'Hard Reset button' which you tap and after a time countdown (you can cancel in this time) it will perform a Hard Reset. This is the same as the Hard Reset app mentioned above.
The 'Enable' and 'Disable' mentioned above do not affect the 'Hard Reset button'
NOTE: PowerBtn also has a 'Program itself becomes power button' feature but I do NOT recommend you use this.
If you enable this you will not be able to change the setting or use the 'Hard Reset button' because when you Tap on the PowerBtn Icon the TX will turn Off. The only way to change the setting or use the 'Hard Reset button' would be to Delete PowerBtn then install again.
You can also turn your TX On by pushing the 5WayNav Select (middle button) to bring up the clock then double push it. The TX will stay on at the same place it was in when you turned it off, in the same way it would if you used the Power Button
All the best, woz of oz

  • How to change the batteries on a palm m125 without having to do a hard reset

Some palm m125's are defective meaning that when one changes the AAA batteries one is presented with a no way out question on whether yes to hard reset or no to not hard reset, yes it's true that what i mean by no way means that even a soft reset will NOT make it work again, hope you just did a backup right.. oh! and this will prob. only work if you have enough battery power to keep the unit on: ie: around 5% battery...
Anywhoo I have found a workaround for this bug or so that may help you, please read below on how to hopefully preserve the data on your handheld's m125 hardware without this hard reset lockup...
Note: Testing with rechargeables in (Maxxus 1100 mah) and then put in alkalines = mixed results :/, but alkalines out then new ones in should work fine..
    Okay - fairly simple - Let's start:
A: Turn on the unit - yes u heard me turn the unit ON
    B: Flip the unit over
C: While the unit is ON take out the top battery first and replace it as fast as you can with the newer one and make sure it is in before doing the next step...
D: now do the bottom battery...
E: turn the unit on by pressing the power button
Result: If all goes well, u'll see the palm logo and then it should show the prefs screen of which you've successfully saved all ur user data. - What it did was a soft reset.
So far with alkalines i've had nothing but success - if anyone out there owns a m125 as well and can confirm that this tip works, please post to let others know ur success or unsuccess of trying out my tip..
My Test Results Tested on Factory State unit (Hard Reset Unit ):
Alkalines -> Alkalines = 99% (if done correctly) = Pretty Safe*
    Alkalines -> Rechargeables = 50% (if done correctly) = Warning/Caution
Rechargeables -> Alkalines = Not Consistant enough to measure (if done correctly) = Very Risky
*If ur unit stills asks on Alka to Alka then Just maybe a software program is now causing it to ask for a hard reset as I'm still testing this.
If method One does not work out, I've also tried the following with success esp. on Rechargeables -> Alkalines, but this will requre more work and a more steady hand...
    A: Turn the unit ON
B: Press and hold DOWN button
C: While holding the Down button, take out the TOP battery first and replace it, DO NOT let go of the down button on the handheld
D: Now replace the BOTTOM battery
E: Let go of the Down Button
    F: Press the on button
If all goes well you will see the palm logo meaning that it just did a soft reset, but ur data should still be intact, With method 2 I was able to get a more success rate. , But I am still testing on when the unit is fully loaded, etc.. as these tests were done on a hard reset unit. You can also try holding the up button instead of the bottom one for a method 3. Again anyone out there with success or unsuccess stories - please tell as i'd like to hear your expierence with my findings here.

    Hi
Im using fireworks to put it all together visually and mechanically
and then I'd like to export it to dreamweaver
This is a bad idea, and will only create problems further down the line. For the correct way to do this see -
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt1.html there are 3 parts to this tutorial series.
As for the effect you wish, (no full page load) this is known as ajax and if you are new and using dreamweaver then the spry framework is probably the easiest to learn, see http://www.webmonkey.com/2010/02/build_ajax_components_with_spry/, your dreamweaver documentation also contains a description of how to use Spry, the full Spry documentation and examples are available at - http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/home.html.

  • Palm TX Won't Keep User Account ID After Hard Reset

I downloaded some malware and it froze my TX. I had to do a hard reset and when I went to resynch everything I got a dialog box that said that my handheld didn't have a user account ID and I got the choice of selecting an existing one or creating a new one. So I selected "existing" and it went through a very long process of reinstalling everything. So then I had another item to install, and instead of just installing that item, I got the same dialog box and EVERYTHING reinstalled.
Since then I've tried everything I could think of, changing the ID, creating a new ID, and still I get the same dialog box and no matter which option I choose I have to put up with it reinstalling EVERYTHING.
Plus software that is ID-dependent won't work since it's looking for the ID that is hooked to the unlock (Acid Spider, for example)
This is getting tedious and I need help!

    You may need to hard reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;
    XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
    Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.
Show file extensions for XP or Vista
    XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
    Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

Connie, I know you've tried, but just for the heck of it, let's review how to Hard Reset:
    To perform a Hard Reset:
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.

  • Hard reset problem and error message (sys 0505) (0, 841) Palm T/X

I've read the various posts covering the error message and I believe I downloaded an incompatible program using the Addit site. While attempting to do a hard reset (following the user guide) I am unable to reach the screen showing the reset options. I receive the error message (sys 0505) (0, 841) in a box in front of the preferences screen after the palm resets (soft).  There is a Software icon that was placed on my opening page on the Palm, which when pressed shows the same error message. The error is caused by the installation of MyPalm, MyTreo, or MyHand on your device.  These were designed for phones.
Delete any of the ones mentioned and the problem should go away.

To perform a Hard Reset: (Palm Knowledgebase article #887)
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
