Palm TX & media components

Greetings All,
I have a Palm TX (love it!!). When I open the Palm Destop software on my PC in order to hot synch I receive the following message box:
Some components required for playing & editing video clips are not installed. Please install Windows Media Player/DirectX and Apple QuickTime from the Additional Software section of the Desktop Software CD.
Inserting the CD gives me options to install either program, but clicking takes me out to the download center website where it lists all the available downloads. I'm not skilled at this enough to know which one(s) to choose. All I want is to be able to eliminate the message and listen/watch, etc. media on my Palm TX. I can load on photos with no problem, but have not yet been able to transfer music to my Palm, which makes me cranky. I know this should be as easy as putting on my socks, but after many, many attempts I've been unsuccessful.
If anyone would like to educate me on this issue I would be very grateful. I am running the Palm Desktop software on Windows Vista, if it makes a difference. Thank you all. Respectully,

Hello and welcome to the forums;
If the error message is asking for Windows Media Player and/or Apple QuickTime, you can also download these programs from their respective developer's websites. Unfortunately I am unable to verify download links, however a www.google.com search for either program should lead you in the right direction.

Downloading and installing windows media components for quicktime

I am relatively new to Mac and haven't really installed much other than Handbrake. I was trying to install windows media components for quicktime or even windows media player for quicktime in order to play .wmv files. However, anytime I click to download something, NOTHING HAPPENS. No download appears, nothing goes to my download stack, nothing installs. Is there something I need to know when attempting to download and install something on my Mac that I may not just know coming over from the dark side of windows?

Yes, good advise...Flip4Mac is essential for WMV content. Here's a list of other things you might need for the various formats out there.

Panini "Wireframe & Media" components

Hello everyone,
Somehow I can't get the new panini "wireframe & media" components to work in my projects. Dragging the "flex" components onto the artboard works just fine, but dragging the new wireframe components onto the artboard doesn't do anything, as if it isn't a permitted action.
I'm using a freshly downloaded Mac OS X version of Flash Catalyst Panini and have already tried reinstalling
anyone have a clue what might be going wrong?

Palm Desktop Media plays video taken but there is no sound on PC

I've taken some great video with my little 700P, but when I put the video on my Palm Desktop Media Player I only get video, no audio. Audio plays fine on Palm. Is there a way to convert these videos to play on WMP or Real Player? Palm's support is worthless, after about 35 minutes of calling this number and that number and going through eternal select 1, then 2, then 2, then 1, then call this number, oh yeah and plan on paying for this support cause we don't give a flying f*%$ about our customers and that is why RIM is kicking our backsides. Can you tell I won't be getting another palm?

PDS uses Quicktime to play videos, theres a good chance your codecs are not complete, So I suggest you download the latest quicktime player from apple.

Palm Desktop Media App freezes

I have a Palm Centro (AT&T), Palm Desktop by Access version 6.2.2, Windows Vista. I'd like to move my photos off the phone and onto the expansion card. When I open Palm Desktop, and click on the Media button, it freezes. It just sits there, and the little circle thingy (Vista version of the hourglass) just keeps spinning. I've left it doing that for over a half hour, then end up using the Task Manager to shut down Palm Desktop.
I'd really like to get this working, as it's easier to manage my photos this way. Any advice? Alternatively, another way I can do the shifting of my photos?

I am having the same problem but I have Windows XP. Click on "media" and the Palm app freezes. I just checked and both Quicktime and Windows Media player are working on my PC. What do i do now.?

Can't get my pics on my Palm Centro to Sync to my desktop. All other data syncs work well.

The best way is to not sync media rather use an SD card to store pictures. Less stress on you and more free memory for your device.

Resizing media components dynamically

Does anyone know of a way to resize the MediaController
component dynamically based on the size of the stage? When I just
change its height/width properties, it stretches it. Not quite what
I'm looking for.
If I resize it manually by changing the dimensions in the
property inspector, it adjusts nicely. What I want is for the
player to scale, but the buttons and icons to stay the same size.

Thats how it is designed.
To change the size use copy the styles from the component
template fla file provided with flash. These are open movie clips.
you can edit the size manually and the effect will be reflected in
the embedded components.

Windows Media Components for Quicktime by Flip4Mac 2.2.2.3

Hello to everybody.
After checking the Flip4Mac Update area, it stated that the version that had been working fine since Nov. 08 was outdated and would I like to update to the newer version 2.2.2.3, I first investigated the System Requirements.
All looked good.
I have MAC OS X 10.3.9 and 7.5 Quicktime Pro.

After downloading and installing, I went to System Preferences to click on the Icon Flip4Mac had placed there the first time last year, which I thought then was really cool, I tried to open Flip4Mac ... System Preferences crashed!
After investigating the other icons, accounts, security, etc., I relaxed! All worked

Well, I found a temporary fix (while Flip4Mac figures out why they state their updates WILL work correctly with the running systems they say will...10.3.9 and Quicktime Pro 7.5, but don't.)
FROM FINDER: REMOVE EVERYTHING WINDOWS MEDIA AND FLIP4MAC.
DO A DISK UTILITY PERMISSIONS REPAIR AND A RESTART.
GO TO THIS APPLE PAGE: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/flip4macwmvstudiopro.html AND DOWNLOAD 2.1.2.72
(my old version was 2.1.1.11)
DO ANOTHER DISK PERMISSIONS AND RESTART.
...THEN THOSE WHO HAD A CRASHING SYSTEM PREFERENCES OR BROWSER WITH NO W.M.V.PLAYER AT ALL, HAVE SOMETHING.
Please note, I did try to put the new 2.2.2.3 over this upgrade 2.1.2.72 from what I had before 2.1.1.11 thinking there sometimes is a "sequence of events" involved,
but it DID NOT WORK.
2.2.2.3 DOES NOT WORK.

Trouble playing FLV in Media components

I am using Flash MX Professional 2004
I am using Camtasia and the Flash Video Exporter to convert
the Video from AVI to FLV
I have been struggling to get the MediaPlayback component to
play my FLV files. It is supposed to be easy and the instructions
sound simple, but It doesn't usually work. Only one of my FLV files
will play. However that one will only play if I use a relative URL
in the Component Inspector. Absoute URLS don't work. I have created
6 files since that one and non will play no matter if the URL is
relative or absolute. What is the secret? WHat knids of things in
the conversion to FLV could cause it to not play? Is there
something I need to do in Flash to make the component compatible
with the FLV files. The one I got to work just seems like dumb
luck. Please help...

I solved my own problem. The solution was a combination of
two things. First I am using Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.0.
Appearantly IIS 6.0 needs a little help to properly stream Flash
video. The solution is:
On the Windows 2003 server, open the Internet Information
Services Manager.
Expand the Local Computer Server.
Right-click the local computer server and select Properties.
Select the MIME Types tab.
Click the New... button and enter the following information:
Associated Extension box: .FLV
MIME Type box: flv-application/octet-stream
Click Ok.
Restart the World Wide Web Publishing service.

The second problem was that the video would fail to play when

How can I use Microsoft Media Player with my new iPod Nano?

I do not like the iTunes player. I want to use the Microsoft Media Player with my iPod Nano. I dislike the iTunes player so much that if I don't get this resolved I will have to return the iPod Nano.

You can download media components for QuickTime which will enable you to play WMA files through QuickTime on your Mac:

If the interview requires Windows Media Player to be running to conduct the interview, then I fear you may be stuck, there is not a version of Windows Media Player for Mac - It is for Windows. Your options in this case would be to borrow a Windows PC or install a valid copy of Windows on your MacBook under BootCamp.

What size media can you put on a 25GB DVD via Share?

I have a HDV project that I am ready to export via Share hopefully to a single Blu Ray disc. The media content is 23.5GB. What is the maximum you can put on that disc (how much is taken up with non media components and will it warn me before I start the process?). This will take some time so I don't want to find out at the end of the encoding etc that the file size is too large.

1. Do not use Share; it is buggy.
2. If that is the raw movie file size, then once encoded, it will comfortably fit on the blu ray disc.

Is there a Window's Media Player download compatible with the INTEL iMacs?

I tried downloading MWP for Mac OSX and the file name was Windows Media.sitx and I couldnt do anything with that. I also tried downloading Windows Media Components for quicktime but it said it wasnt compatible with intel Macs.
Any suggestions?

Although Microsoft no longer supports it, WMV9 for OSX works on the intel machine, running under Rosetta. That .sitx file you download can be uncompressed with the free Stuffit Expander for intel:

Alternatively, you can download the Popwire components for intel Mac, which allow WMV files to play in native Quicktime (7.0.4 and below only) or Flip4Mac, which will do the same, although only by running your Quicktime Player in Rosetta, as F4M has not released a universal version as of yet.

Color space, Windows Media 9

Hi,
I´m using AE CS3 and try to render a Windows Media 9 file. But I don´t get the colors right. The blacks are too light and the whites too dark (I´ve checked the file in both VLC and Media Player). I guess it could be a color space issue. In AE I use HDTV (Rec. 709) color space. But not sure if this is the right choice. Have also tried not to use any color space, but that doesn´t help either. Thankful for any advice.

Rec 709 as a project setting should not affect output in any way, as it covers the full 0-255 8bit RGB value ranges. They should only get limited when using other profiles and working in other bit-depths.. The only other thing that in my experience might cause color shifts is odd combinations of older Windows Media components with the latest AE. In these cases, the ranges may be misinterpreted. As a last thing, also check hardware acceleration options in your players. Sometimes simply a color otpion introduced by your graphics card can make things go crazy. In any case, I would, as a minor, update Windows Media player to the latest and see, if it helps.

How do I successfully play Windows Media (asx) files on a Mac?

I have access to live streaming of foreign TV programming, but only with WM asx files. I can play them perfectly with Windows Media Player on a PC, but no luck with WMPlayer 9.0 on my Mac. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can play these streams on my Mac? Thanks!

The free Windows Media Components for QuickTime support ASX files, according to features list.
It will probably not work in iTunes, only Quicktime.
I have no experience with ASX-files, so I can't tell you if it indeed works.
