Palm TX resets when I boot up Memos

I've had my TX for years now and I am very happy with it.
Unfortunately, quite recently, whenever I tap on the Memos icon, the TX resets.
All the other applications work fine.
In case you ask, no, I haven't installed any new software.
Please advise me on how to fix this problem.
Thanks.

You have a corrupt Memo entry on your TX.
Open Palm Desktop on your computer, then go to Tools/Options/then the Tools Tab.   Tap the "Check Now" button to check the backed-up Memos database.
When finished, set your HotSync conduit to Desktop Overwrites Handheld for the Memos conduit.  That should place clean copies of your Memos onto your device.

  • Palm TX does a soft reset when I tap on memos

I am new to posting on this forum.  My Palm TX does a soft reset when I tap on memos or push the button I have set to memos.  I also have had several soft resets occur after tuning the my palm on from the On/Off button.  I have had Palms for the last 10 years.  Never had this problem.  The only problem I had was the On/Off button on The TX failed as a result this is my 3rd TX in the last 4 years.  Any suggestions welcome.  I was behind on syncing and my last sync was done about 1 week before this problem occurred.  I really do not want to do a hard reset.  This problem has been going on for a month.  Can I just do an unistall/reinstall without loosing any info?

This question has been asked and answered many times here... Somehow, the memos database has become corrupt on the device. There are two ways to fix this:
    1. First, open Palm Desktop and go up to Tools/Options/Tools Tab and click the Check Records button. Let it look for corrupt records, and if none are found then a simple fix is to set your HotSync Manager setting for the Memos app to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" for one operation.
If using Palm Desktop 4.x, change the conduit here: Click on your HotSync Manager icon in the tool tray, and select "Custom". Make sure your HotSync Account name is showing in the top window, then highlight the Memos app and click the "Change" button. Click the selection for "Desktop Overwrites Handheld" and click "Done". (DO NOT select the "Set as Default" box!) Now do a HotSync. Since you didn't select "Set As Default" it will only do the overwrite for one operation, then default back to "Synchronize".
If using Palm Desktop 6.2.x, change the conduit here: Click on the HotSync Manager icon in the tool tray, and select "Settings". Make sure your HotSync Account name is showing in the top center window, then click the "Applications" link in the left column. Check the box for "Show Details", Highlight the application you wish to change, then click the "Configure" button. Click the bullet for "Desktop Overwrites Handheld" and DO NOT select the "Set as Default" box. Now do a HotSync. Since you didn't select "Set As Default" it will only do the overwrite for one operation, then default back to "Synchronize".
Check to see if the HotSync completes without errors, and your Memos application is back to normal.
    2. If the above does not fix the problem, then download and install "DBFixit" from Pimlico Software: http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm The program will search your device for errors, and fix some for free. Others may require the purchase of a registration code, with the funds going to an animal rescue non-profit (Gorilla Haven).

  • Palm TX Resets When Using BT Keyboard & WiFi

I'm hoping someone can help me with this.  I just purchased a Palm BT Keyboard, deleted the IR kybd driver and installed the BT kybd driver.  But when I've connected to the internet via WiFi, my TX resets as soon as I press a key (any key).  I've tried warm resets as well as deleting and reinstalling the BT kybd driver but to no avail.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  Also, I've noticed the alarms on my TX stopped working about the same time as this issue.  Could this all be related to the BT driver?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Palm TX Resets when pushing Hotsync

I'm posting this for my father. He has a Palm TX syncing with Windows Vista. When he tries to hotsync via USB the Palm device does a soft reset and thats it. I tried syncing it over the wireless network and when I push hotsync on the device it does the same thing. I looked on the hotsync FAQ and they did not address this issue. It seems like this must be an issue with the device and not windows. Any help would be appreciated.

A hard reset wipes everything off your palm. Make sure all your info is backed up before following these instructons because you will not be able to get it back. You might want to double check on your computer to make sure all your info is there before doing a hard reset.
It is performed by holding down the power button while sticking something thin (your stylus, paper clip) into the back reset hole of your device. Keep your hand on the power button while you release the paper clip from the reset hole. The screen will now say "Palm Powered." Take your hand off the power button. You will now see a screen in 5 languages prompting you to erase all data from the palm. The screen will say "erase all data? Yes - up, no - down" and you need to click on the up arrow (silver button on the 5 way navigator on the bottom of the palm). This will erase all the info from your device.
Now, are you able to sync your palm?
When you begin sync'ing, the computer will prompt you, "there is no user name associated with this account..." select your old user name and then all the info will come back onto your palm.
    Let me know what happens...

  • My Palm TX resets when I try to turn on the WiFi radio

Any time that I try to turn on the WiFi radio on my Palm TX, it always turns off, then comes on like the reset button was pushed. I have tried doing hard resets, factory resets, even finding the backup folder on the computer and renaming it, but nothing is working. I do not know if there is something else I can do to allow me to use the WiFi feature without it always resetting. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Palm Desktop freezes when I do New Memo or Edit Memo

I have Palm Desktop by ACCESS 6.2.2 on my Win 7 64 bit machine.  Everything was fine for years until today.   Now when I click on New Memo or Edit memo the edit memo window does not show up. If I click anywhere on the Palm desktop the only thing that happens is the computer rings a bell.  I wonder if the edit memo did show up somewhere but is off screen and invisable. I did add a second monitor recently.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chas

I'd suggest a complete uninstall/reinstall of Palm Desktop.
Make sure you save a copy of your user directory.
Normally, user data does not get deleted, but one can't be too careful!
These instructions are for Vista but should work for Win7.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents --> Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step. If you are not concerned about your data at this point, skip the next step.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do with Palm Desktop from your computer. Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below. C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or PalmOne C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck hide hidden files.
When using Palm desktop 6.2, look in my documents or documents and delete the PalmOS desktop folder. This is the location of the PD 6.2 data files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box. Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen.

  • Set monitor settings to res too low for flat panel - reset w/o boot?

    Hello
I wanted to play an old OS 9 game on my Powermac G4 (Sawtooth, 400 Mhz, OS 9.2.2 and 10.4.11), and for the sake of readability, wanted to set the monitor to the game's native 640x480. The monitor control panel (when booted under OS 9) allowed for this, but unfortunately, my Samsung Syncmaster 740 (1280x1024, connected via DVI) LCD display apparently refuses to display any video smaller than 1024x768. I later found this out testing with my old iMac DVSE connected via VGA. Thus, there's no video. I also do not have another monitor to run the G4 on, besides a 1080p HDTV - which is unsupported by the G4's card.
Without any video when booted up, is there any way to reset the video settings? Under target disk mode perhaps? A parameter ram reset (commandOption+PR at startup) didn't help. I can boot up into Tiger with a suitable resolution - just not OS 9.
Message was edited by: Daniel W: Just clarified that I was booted into OS 9 when I caused this bug...

    Hello
I tested both methods suggested. When I booted OS 9 with extensions off (which really should have occured to me earlier - boy, I haven't used OS 9 in a while), it did revert to a default 800x600 resolution - which displayed. Odd, I don't get it, it didn't display at that res before. Unfortunately, the monitors control panel would not open with extensions off. I rebooted, only to find that OS 9 reverted to the 640x480 resolution.
The solution is exactly what Don Archibald suggested - I removed this file from the system folder (while booted into OS X), and OS 9 rebooted to 1024x768 - which worked just fine.
Oddly, when I attempted to reboot into OS X, I ran into trouble. I hope somebody has a clue what happened.
It seems that when the G4 starts up, it does so in a very low resolution - at least, lower than the monitor supports. This means I cannot see anything until one of the OS' boots up. Unfortunately, after removing that pref file and ensuring OS 9 now boots properly, I rebooted to OS X. After about 5 minutes, OS X did not boot. So, I pressed the reset button, and held down "X". Still, OS X did not boot - after 10 mins. So, I repeated, holding down "option". This time, I did not even hear a boot chime. I don't get that at all. Nothing happened after another reboot, or in Target Disk mode, and it would not boot up to the point that it would recognize the USB keyboard - I could not boot to a CD.
While I do have backups for nearly all the data, I wanted to make sure I got the rest off the G4 drive. So, I actually pulled the hard drive out of the G4, put it in a USB enclosure, and connected it to my MacBook Pro. Somehow, the directory must have become very confused - it would not display any volumes! On a hunch, I decided to swap it with the drive in the iMac - I needed to swap the iMac's battery and install more RAM anyway. Before I did this, I used SuperDuper to clone the iMac's drive to an old Clickweel iPod. I switched the drive, thinking I'd need to startup the iMac from the Tiger install disc - but it recognized Tiger (from the G4) right away, and booted normally. I was able to boot the G4 into Panther (from the iMac drive), and then install Tiger once more. I figured that considering some bugs I was having in Tiger, I might as well just do a fresh install.
Fortunately, Migration Assistant was able to move everything over from the iMac to the G4, and I could format and restore the iMac's drive from the iPod. So, it took a while and some drive swapping, but everything's back to normal on both machines. Still, I can't see anything until the OS boots, as before, but both OS 9 and X work properly.
I don't get the huge bug, but it's all good now. I may need to reset PRAM again so that it will display properly during boot, but everything seems to work. Thanks for the help!

  • My speakers are not working but it still makes a sound when it boots up

my speakers are not working but it still makes a sound when it boots up.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and a red light is coming from it, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    3. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    4. Reset the NVRAM.
    5. Reset the SMC.
    6. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    7. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Can you see them in Disk Utility?
If so, can you select and Mount them?
If not, disconnect them, reset the iMac's SMC and then reconnect them.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
If you still can not see them, connect them back up to the iMac running the older OS, open Disk Utility and look to see how they are partitioned and formatted.

Why does my mini ipad reset when I click the camera icon?

    Try doing a manual reset:
Hold both the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.

  • Why is my Distiller 9.0 randomly choosing a folder on my Mac and distilling everything in it, and dropping the PDFs into another random folder, when I boot up the program?

Acrobat Distiller 9, upon boot up, will sometimes just pick a random folder on my Mac or on a network drive over our server and start distilling all the files within that folder. Then if the files convert to a PDF, it will move them into another random folder of its choice. It's like the Distiller is creating its own set of Watch Folders without my consent or permission. All I do is start up the program when I log onto my Mac. When the program finishes booting up, it just connects to a completely random folder and starts distilling. It never connects to the Watch Folders I have created, just connects to whatever it wants when it boots up.

Certainly weird, but you might want to post in the Acrobat forum as you aren't using Distiller Server (discontinued and never available on Mac).
Best not to set up watched network folders, there's no way to force a mount to be done, and Distiller is not for sharing anyway.
