Palm TX Resets when pushing Hotsync

I'm posting this for my father. He has a Palm TX syncing with Windows Vista. When he tries to hotsync via USB the Palm device does a soft reset and thats it. I tried syncing it over the wireless network and when I push hotsync on the device it does the same thing. I looked on the hotsync FAQ and they did not address this issue. It seems like this must be an issue with the device and not windows. Any help would be appreciated.

A hard reset wipes everything off your palm. Make sure all your info is backed up before following these instructons because you will not be able to get it back. You might want to double check on your computer to make sure all your info is there before doing a hard reset.
It is performed by holding down the power button while sticking something thin (your stylus, paper clip) into the back reset hole of your device. Keep your hand on the power button while you release the paper clip from the reset hole. The screen will now say "Palm Powered." Take your hand off the power button. You will now see a screen in 5 languages prompting you to erase all data from the palm. The screen will say "erase all data? Yes - up, no - down" and you need to click on the up arrow (silver button on the 5 way navigator on the bottom of the palm). This will erase all the info from your device.
Now, are you able to sync your palm?
When you begin sync'ing, the computer will prompt you, "there is no user name associated with this account..." select your old user name and then all the info will come back onto your palm.
Let me know what happens...

  • My Palm TX resets when I try to turn on the WiFi radio

Any time that I try to turn on the WiFi radio on my Palm TX, it always turns off, then comes on like the reset button was pushed. I have tried doing hard resets, factory resets, even finding the backup folder on the computer and renaming it, but nothing is working. I do not know if there is something else I can do to allow me to use the WiFi feature without it always resetting. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Palm TX resets when I boot up Memos

I've had my TX for years now and I am very happy with it.
Unfortunately, quite recently, whenever I tap on the Memos icon, the TX resets.
All the other applications work fine.
In case you ask, no, I haven't installed any new software.
Please advise me on how to fix this problem.

You have a corrupt Memo entry on your TX.
Open Palm Desktop on your computer, then go to Tools/Options/then the Tools Tab.   Tap the "Check Now" button to check the backed-up Memos database.
When finished, set your HotSync conduit to Desktop Overwrites Handheld for the Memos conduit.  That should place clean copies of your Memos onto your device.

  • Palm TX Resets When Using BT Keyboard & WiFi

I'm hoping someone can help me with this.  I just purchased a Palm BT Keyboard, deleted the IR kybd driver and installed the BT kybd driver.  But when I've connected to the internet via WiFi, my TX resets as soon as I press a key (any key).  I've tried warm resets as well as deleting and reinstalling the BT kybd driver but to no avail.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  Also, I've noticed the alarms on my TX stopped working about the same time as this issue.  Could this all be related to the BT driver?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Ipod will not reset when pushing button(s)

When i push the volume down and power button for 8 seconds or longer, nothing happens except volume goes down. Is it frozen?

    Hey blaheha,
Thanks for the question. You may find the following information helpful:
    How to reset iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.
If the above step did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.

  • Palm TX does a soft reset when I tap on memos

I am new to posting on this forum.  My Palm TX does a soft reset when I tap on memos or push the button I have set to memos.  I also have had several soft resets occur after tuning the my palm on from the On/Off button.  I have had Palms for the last 10 years.  Never had this problem.  The only problem I had was the On/Off button on The TX failed as a result this is my 3rd TX in the last 4 years.  Any suggestions welcome.  I was behind on syncing and my last sync was done about 1 week before this problem occurred.  I really do not want to do a hard reset.  This problem has been going on for a month.  Can I just do an unistall/reinstall without loosing any info?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

This question has been asked and answered many times here... Somehow, the memos database has become corrupt on the device. There are two ways to fix this:
    1. First, open Palm Desktop and go up to Tools/Options/Tools Tab and click the Check Records button. Let it look for corrupt records, and if none are found then a simple fix is to set your HotSync Manager setting for the Memos app to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" for one operation.
If using Palm Desktop 4.x, change the conduit here: Click on your HotSync Manager icon in the tool tray, and select "Custom". Make sure your HotSync Account name is showing in the top window, then highlight the Memos app and click the "Change" button. Click the selection for "Desktop Overwrites Handheld" and click "Done". (DO NOT select the "Set as Default" box!) Now do a HotSync. Since you didn't select "Set As Default" it will only do the overwrite for one operation, then default back to "Synchronize".
If using Palm Desktop 6.2.x, change the conduit here: Click on the HotSync Manager icon in the tool tray, and select "Settings". Make sure your HotSync Account name is showing in the top center window, then click the "Applications" link in the left column. Check the box for "Show Details", Highlight the application you wish to change, then click the "Configure" button. Click the bullet for "Desktop Overwrites Handheld" and DO NOT select the "Set as Default" box. Now do a HotSync. Since you didn't select "Set As Default" it will only do the overwrite for one operation, then default back to "Synchronize".
Check to see if the HotSync completes without errors, and your Memos application is back to normal.
    2. If the above does not fix the problem, then download and install "DBFixit" from Pimlico Software: http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm The program will search your device for errors, and fix some for free. Others may require the purchase of a registration code, with the funds going to an animal rescue non-profit (Gorilla Haven).

I came home and attempted to power on my iPad2. I can see the backlight but nothing on the screen. When I try to reset by pushing the off button and the power button at the same time I can sometimes see the characters briefly but the screen has lines. Can someone tell me if there is anything else I can do before a trip to the repair shop?
    Will

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Soft reset when syncing

I have just gotten a new TX (upgrading from a T3) and like it very much. But I notice when I hotsync, the TX does an automatic soft reset and goes back to the Palm Screen.  Is this normal or is there something causing this that I can fix? (I am a relative Newbie and non-techie so please take that into account when answering.
    Thanks in advance.

There are two main things that could cause the issue.
    1. You backup conduit is set to handheld overwrites desktop. To check right click on your hotsync icon and select custom then go down to backup and see what it is set for
    2. If you didn't follow the proper upgrade procedure as outlined at http://kb.palm.com solution id 40720 then you could have incompatible software settings or preferences coming over to your new handheld.

  • When I HotSync my Tx handheld turns off.

I have been running Version 6.1 and HotSync w/o any problems for years. My computer runs Window XP Home Edition. Today, for the first time, when I tried to HotSync, the handheld turned off and then reloaded automatically. I tried again and the same thing happened. I restarted my computer, tried to HotSync and, again, the same thing happened. I then tried to upgrade to Version 6.2.2. One of the final steps is performing a HotSync. When I tried to do this, once again the handheld turned off and reloaded again. I fully charged my handheld Tx and it continued to occur. Any suggestions?

Hi Tx_userAK, Welcome to the Palm Support Community!
It sounds like it's time to Hard Reset and start over again.  (Note: a Hard Reset will erase all your user data on the device!)
To perform a Hard Reset: (Palm Knowledgebase article #887)
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.
Now try to Hotsync the device and choose your original Hotsync name when asked.  If it works, great!  If not, we'll try something else.

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

Missing sync is a third party sync conduit you would have to have bought separately, so if you don't know what it is, I would assume you haven't got it.

  • Palm TX but want to HotSync with the Palm Calendar NOT Outlook!

I have a Palm TX with Palm OS Garnet v.5.4.9  I like using the calendar and tasks etc that come with the Palm operating system but from what I can tell I can only sync with Outlook!  Outlook will not print all my appointments off for the week, I have too many and it will cut them off on a print out.
There has got to be a way I can use the calendar I love so much from Palm.  I've been using an old Palm IIIe and IIIx and upgraded to the TX.  This is a deal breaker, I hate Outlook its not functionable for me with what I do.  Does anyone have any ideas here?  When I hotsync nothing shows up on the Palm Calendar or Tasks etc.  I have the Palm Desktop by Access application 6.2.2.  I've gone into the HotSync Manager setting but my only options are listed as Calendar (Outlook), Contacts (Outlook) etc and I can change whether the handheld or desktop override the duplicates.  THATS IT!  Should I uninstall and reinstall an older version?  Will the Palm TX work with that?  Its 4:24am my time and I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out the fix for this.  Got to sleep but will be checking for any answers!
Thanks for any help I can get!

Hello livingny, Welcome to the Palm Support Community.
Try throwing the "switch" to sync with Palm Desktop.  Somehow, it appears to be set to sync with Outlook now.
On your PC go to:  Start Button/All Programs/Palm/PIM Conduit Sync/Sync with Palm Desktop.
That should redirect the info back into Palm Desktop's Calendar app. at your next HotSync.

If you have a Palm OS device (Z22, E, E2, TX, some Treos, and older devices) and are not using Exchange ActiveSync, your question belongs in a different section of the Forum.
If you are using Palm Desktop (or Access Desktop for Vista) to hold all your data, your question belongs in either the Windows HotSync section or Mac HotSync.

  • TX resets when trying to access documents

My Palm TX resets whenever I try to access Documents.  I was having other problems so I returned and exchanged the Palm for a new one.
Problem is this happens on the new one.  I removed the one document I had installed, thinking maybe I had some sort of virus/flaw in it.  Nothing changed, it still resets.
Any ideas?  Obviously it's not a hardware problem since this one does the same thing.

Sounds like you did not precisely follow the upgrade directions that require renaming the Backup folder on your computer before installing the new Desktop/Hotsync and syncing. You will aso have to install the Documents to Go Desktop that is compatible with the version on your TX.
Hard Reset your TX and follow these directions.

  • Multiple copies of photo's when I hotsync?

I have a Palm E2 and often when I hotsync on Vista I receive duplicate copies of the photo's that I already have on my Palm often up to the point where it will fill up the device's memory. How do i get around this? Is this an issue with what's in the back up folder? If so how do I access the back up folder and stop this from happening? What's the solution?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Hi, Scott. People who want to be in complete control of how their pictures are filed, or to file them manually and be free to change that arrangement at will, don't like iPhoto and shouldn't use it. If you're such a person, you're absolutely right to be using another application instead (there are dozens to choose from). iPhoto is completely inflexible about organizing its library exactly the way it wants it; messing with its arrangement of your library is a certain route to trouble. But for those who are content to let iPhoto do all the organizing, there are ways to work with it.
I keep about 1/4 of my own pictures in ten different iPhoto Libraries, and the rest in folder hierarchies of my own devising in the Finder. I let iPhoto organize the ones in its libraries, and I organize the rest and work with them in applications other than iPhoto (Photoshop CS2, GraphicConverter 6, and ViewIt). This gives me control where I want it, and ease of access where I don't feel the need for control.
