Also make sure you backup conduit is set for handheld overwrites desktop.

  • Enable Palm Syncing tells me Hotsync isn't properly installed - but it is.

I'm able to sync my Tungsten T5 with Palm Desktop, but not with iSync. When I go to DEVICES in my iSync and click ENABLE PALM SYNCING, the pop-up window tells me to open Hotsync; that it hasn't been opened before or installed. It IS installed and I am able to sync with Desktop. I've properly uninstalled and reinstalled Palm Desktop (from web download), but continue to get this message. Any thoughts?

Here two methods you can use to correct the issue:
Take a look at the permissions of the folders listed below. Your permissions for the folders listed below should appear as described below the pathname to that folder:
    For the Macintosh HD:Applications:Palm folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
For the Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm Desktop folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
    For the [i/Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
You can either reset those values manually, [then restart and recheck them to be sure that they are set correctly] or use the Terminal application by typing these strings listed below this example—substituting your short user name—as shown below:
    sample: "sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm"
    actual: "sudo chown -R michaellafferty:admin /Applications/Palm"
…where michaellafferty is the <shortusername> in my case. Be sure to pay attention to the spaces in each string, and the direction of the / or \ [forward and back slash] characters.
Here are the appropriate Terminal entries. Each is is shown bulleted below, but actually begins with the term sudo:
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm
[NOTE: at this point, you'll be asked to enter your login password]
    • sudo chmod -R 775 /Applications/Palm
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
    • sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/
    • sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/
Again, pay particular attention to the spaces and to the \ characters, as both are critical to the syntax of these commands. Remember to place your actual shortusername in the string where the <shortusername> placeholder is shown, as in the sample above. [Do not include the < and > characters around your actual shortusername.]

  • Palm TX crashes on HotSync

I just bought a Palm T/X and am having problems with it crashing whenever I try to HotSync it with my Mac Powerbook G4 running OS10.4. I've tried it both with USB and Bluetooth connections (I'd prefer to use the latter). If I do a hard reboot on the T/X it will sync, but then every subsequent attempt results in the T/X restarting without a HotSync occurring. What to do?
    thanks,
    Ken

Sorry you bought a Palm! I made the same mistake. I now have the same problem and there appears to be no support for Macs. My T/X seemed to sync fine until all of a sudden. But, there does not seem to be any Palm support for Mac OS. My advice to anyone out there with a Mac is not to buy a Palm. Get a iPod Touch which will do all a Palm will do and much, much more. I'm done supporting companies that do not provide acceptable options for Mac users. Shame on Palm.

When you installed Palm Desktop and sync'ed for the first time, it should have asked you if you wanted to create a new username or use an existing name. You should have used the existing name that is on the Handheld.
When you create a new user in Palm Desktop and it is not the same name that is on the handheld, then Palm Desktop does not have a reference name to sync with.
Go into hotsync on the device and look in the upper right corner and it will show you the hotsync username of the device. Create a username in Palm desktop that is the same name and sync to that username in palm desktop.
Click on the link below for the support page for your device. On that page is a link for hotsync troubleshooting for the Mac. There is also a link for the Mac desktop handbook.

  • Palm TX froze after hotsync

This has not happened to me before. I was trying to purchase some games I tried out. I dont think the games loaded as I did not see it as a purchase in my hotsync log. Now my screen is blank with the keyboard at the bottom. It wont turn off, it wont go back a screen, it wont do anyhting. Help.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Freezing and looping is usually caused by incompatible software with the TX's NVFS memory.
As with most problems that occur on a Palm PDA, it is either software or hardware related and we have to determine which one.
Best method is to first make a complete backup of your unit to your SD card using the free "NVBackup" (available from http://www.freewarepalm.com) After the backup is complete, Hard Reset the unit, then test to see if full functionality returns.
    To perform a Hard Reset:
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.
DO NOT HOTSYNC YET! Test the unit before reinstalling any software. If the unit works correctly, your problem is being caused by a "drug interaction" of software - maybe one rogue program, or a combination of several. You'll have to reinstall the third-party programs one or a few at a time to find the problem one. To avoid re-installing a software issue, rename your /Backup directory in your Palm folder (on a PC it's found here: C/Program Files/Palm(One)/"your HotSync ID name truncated"/Backup) to something like "/BackupOLD". Now perform the HotSync, choose your HotSync name you've been using, and all your PIM data will return, but not the third-party programs. Test for functionality again. If all is good, start installing the old programs from your /BackupOLD directory one (or a few if brave) at a time.
If the unit does not work after a Hard Reset is performed correctly, then it may be Hardware-related. (If it's a connection problem via either BlueTooth or Wifi, be sure nothing has changed on the unit you're trying to connect to!)
    Hope this has helped,

  • How do I cleanup palm desktop before I hotsync

I have a palm treo 755. I recently had to replace it on 2 occasions ,because it would keep powering off after I would make a call. I went back to the store and they would do a hard reset and it would work fine until I would hotsync. I noticed that my text messages on my phone would not delete from my phone and they would always come back with every hotsync. I believe if I could get rid of my messages from my desktop before I hotsync that would solve my problem.

Then it froze again(maybe to full?) I need my info off of it, I would like to hotsync it to computer and then get another device, but can't right now. I have been online trying to figure out how to download something for it, but can't seem to figure it out! It beeps if I try to tap anything on it! If you have any suggestions let me know!AC
    Post relates to: Zire 21

If the device will not function post a soft reset then a hard reset is needed. This will erase all data. There isn't anything to download that will make a non functioning Zire 21 start working.

  • Palm 650 started auto HotSyncing !!

I have a Palm 650 that has recently started to fire up the HotSync operation without any prompting. The Bluetooth is turned off and I normally HS via a cable.
Any ideas how to stop this anyone? as its VERY annoying and jams up the phone while it's trying to HS and it happens every hour or so.
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Unlocked GSM)

Spontaneous hotsyncing is usually a symptom of the phone getting wet at the bottom port.
To erase the device and reinstall the OS, do a Hard Reset:

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 & Hotsync manager (windows) cannot access internet during installation

I think that I posted this in the wrong forum before. If not, I apologize for the duplicate.
I just upgraded to windows 7 32-bit. I have Palm T/X and I was trying to install Palm Desktop 6.2 software from palm website. However, during installation I keep getting messages that "Setup was unable to access the internet. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Palm Centro Stuck on Hotsync

Please Help!!!  I have 2 Centros and both seem to have the same problem.  They will work for a little while then they get stuck on Hotsync and I can't get it off.  I have tried to do a soft and hard reset and it has gotten me nowhere.  The phone will even get to where it will not power up for a day or two.  If anyone knows how to correct this problem,  Please Help.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

The most common reason for the looping hotsync is the connectors on the bottom of your devices have been exposed to moisture or some kind of liquid and it has corroded the connectors.
Now there are other things that could cause the looping hotsync one being software that is causing it do so.
Have you tried hard resetting the unit and after a hard reset not puttin anything back on the phone and see how it acts, chances are if the problem persists it is either corroded connectors or a hardware malfunction.

  • Shared Library Conflicts/HotSync/Palm

I have had trouble opening Hot Sync Manager to sync w/Bluetooth.
    Keep getting ERROR Message:
The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "O<HotSync Manager><HotSync Manager><HotSyncLib.PPC><SetConfigureConduitCallBack>
Could Apple users please help me find these extensions so I can delete them and start clean.
Wish Error Messages would tell me where the heck these conflicting files are??
    Thx all

You are seeing a variant of the single most frequently encountered error condition of the Palm Desktop software package under OS X. It is usually a result of the choice to install or upgrade system software using the archive and install option.
Whatever you do, do not arbitrarily delete rename, or move any Palm-related files or folders, as you will only aggravate the situation! Manually manipulating either the Palm software [including the HotSync Manager or the Transport Monitor] or iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit is not something you should attempt unless you understand how they operate, and are very familiar with the consequences of doing so.
There are a number of ways to address it, though the easiest is probably by following this set of instructions from Palm:
Macintosh 0S X 10.x: HotSync Manager could not be launched because of a shared library error
The Mac OS X installer includes an "Archive and Install" option. When you upgrade your Mac OS to a newer version of OS X, and select the "Archive and Install" option from the installer's "Select a Destination: Options" panel, you may receive the following error upon restart or attempting to launch HotSync Manager:
"The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4"
Explanation: The Archive and Install option in the Mac OS X installer does not copy these files from the archived System and Library folders to the new OS installation. HotSync Manager requires these files to run properly.
Workaround: You must re-install Palm Desktop from the CD included with your handheld. After installing Palm Desktop from your CD you can install the latest web download from: http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads
NOTE: That file is directly accessible here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
(Important Note: Be sure to install from your CD first as the web version does not include all the software included on your CD)

  • PALM V / WINDOWS XP HOME HOTSYNC PROBLEM

Out of the blue, my Palm stopped hotsyncing with my G3 Mac  (see http://forums.palm.com/t5/Macintosh-HotSync/PALM-V-MAC-OS9-2-2-HOTSYNC-PROBLEM/td-p/273892;jsessioni...) so I am trying to move everything over to my Windows XP Home machine. I downloaded the Palm Desktop V 4.1.4 and purchased a new Keyspan USA-19HS serial to USB adapter for the cradle. I have the Hotsync Manager set to Local USB and the driver said that I was connected to com 4.
I am at a total loss on what to do to get the hotsync to work and I am totally lost without my PDA.

    Hi,
easiest way to verify that your XP CD has SP2 incorporated is to look at the root directory of the CD for a file named 'win51ip.sp2'.
If there, then it is SP2. If not, well...
And there is a way to make yourself a XP CD with SP2 out of your pre-SP2 XP CD by following these instructions http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp
But you have to do it on a Windows PC.
Second possibility, the XP CD you have is an upgrade version, which only installs after a check for an older Windows version.
Unfortunately you can't switch CDs during BootCamp Windows installation due to the impossibility to eject the current CD.
Apple strictly says that such upgrade XP CDs don't work with BootCamp.
    Regards
    Stefan
