Palm TX won't HotSync

I enabled HotSync on my Mac and plugged my Palm TX in, but when I click the button (it's on "Local/Cord or Cradle) it said it couldn't connect. What is wrong?
Post relates to: Palm TX

OK, I got it to Sync but on the Mac it said "Error: [-1]" and when I hit "OK" it failed. Any help?

When you installed Palm Desktop and sync'ed for the first time, it should have asked you if you wanted to create a new username or use an existing name. You should have used the existing name that is on the Handheld.
When you create a new user in Palm Desktop and it is not the same name that is on the handheld, then Palm Desktop does not have a reference name to sync with.
Go into hotsync on the device and look in the upper right corner and it will show you the hotsync username of the device. Create a username in Palm desktop that is the same name and sync to that username in palm desktop.
Click on the link below for the support page for your device. On that page is a link for hotsync troubleshooting for the Mac. There is also a link for the Mac desktop handbook.

  • Palm won't hotsync anymore. Please help!

My palm won't hotsync with my computer anymore. I have re-loaded a couple of times, but still nothing. When I try, the computer makes 3 sharp beeps, but no hotsync, and eventually the palm device gives me the message " The connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."

I am far from an expert on this , but I had the same problem with my Palm TX.  I have found a temporary solution.
If your hot sync icon has disappeared from yoyr tray in lower right hand corner of computer screen AND
when you open Palm Desktop and go to Hotsync...the options (custom, view log, etc) are greyed out and not selectable)..When the hotsync icon from the tray disappears (you can no longer hotsync by pressing button or through the desktop software).  Try the following temporary fix.
Create a HotSync icon on your desktop.  To re-activate the HotSync tray icon, just double click on the hotsync desktop icon and the hotsync tray icon will re-appear, as well as the greyed-outicons under the Palm desktop hotsync option will become active once again.  You should now be able to hotsync.  However, the problem keeps re-occuring, and needs fixing often, which is why I leave the HotSync icon on my desktop to make life simple.  I do not know of a permanent fix.

  • Palm TX - Won't even hard reset

My Palm T/X will soft reset, but not hard reset.  It keeps going to the password screen. When I try to enter the password, it jumps to the Owners screen and that's it - it's stuck.
Needless to say, it won't Hotsync either.
Any ideas on how to at least get it to hard reset?
    Thanks for any info.

Connie, I know you've tried, but just for the heck of it, let's review how to Hard Reset:
    To perform a Hard Reset:
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.

    Hi,
Three beeps, three messages, no replies ! I've been using Palm handhelds for several years now. Rarely have I had problems and up to date I've always found a solution. But this one has stumped me ! I've reinstalled all the Palm software on my PC, cleaned the contacts, soft and hard reset the palm, but all to no avail. Seeing as nothing is shown on the PC screen I suspect it must be linked to a communications problem rather than a software one. Has anyone found a solution ?
    I live in hope !

Hi and welcome to the Forums.
If you have not already been through it, please review the Wi-Fi Checklist thread which is "stickied" to the top of this board.  Hopefully something there will resolve your connection issue.

Has this ever been resolved?  It looks like it's 5 months old and I don't see any replies.  I saw this and immediately thought of the DEP(Data Execution Protection) feature that is a characteristic of Windows Vista.  If you go to your control panel,to system, to advanced system settings, and then click the settings button in the performance section, the DEP is the third thumnail to the right(should be the last one there).  This is where you can turn it on or off and add programs for it to ignore.
However, usually when it's the DEP that kills a program unexpectedly, the operating system has usually made it known to the user that it was the DEP.

  • Won't hotsync calendar

I have a Palm Centro.  When I hotsync, it does not synchronize my Outlook Calendar with the Palm. Tasks and Contacts work fine. I get no error messages, and in fact, the Schedule conduit doesn't even appear in the hotsync log. I've checked the configuration to make sure calendar is checked as well as sync files.  I've spent hours on the phone with Verizon and Palm with zero resolution.  I've un- and re-installed the software.  I've done a soft reset.  I'm at my wits end!
If it makes any difference, I'm running Outlook 2002 on Win XP. Additionally, I also have an EAS with my work computer.
Anyone else seen this? Any ideas for fixes?

There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT.
If the other PIM cartegories sync, the calendar should sync also.
I and several people here at work are experiencing the same issue with our Treo 755p.  We have reset the device, reinstalled the Palm Desktop, used the DBFixIt application (which found no problems) and still no go.  The calendar and ONLY THE CALENDAR just will not sync with the treo from outlook 2007 (when using wireless sync).  Everything else works fine and the calendar WILL sync using the cable/cradle.
any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Palm centro won't ring

For some reason my new palm centro won't ring, show any missed calls, or let me check my voicemail at home, even though it shows all bars and appears to have network service. I can, however, do all of these things in other locations.
I was on the phone w/ tech support for 45 minutes trying to get to the bottom of it and they said I should consider having it replaced where I bought it. But I've been reading online complaints from others who have gotten replacement phones and are having the same problems so I don't want to replace it if that won't address the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks,

As I understand your situation, the phone works correctly (it rings, shows missed calls, and lets you check voice mail, etc.) in locations other than your home.  When you get home, these things no longer work?
Are you able to make any outgoing calls from your home?

  • Hotsync palm tx- won't sync at all

I'm trying to sync my Palm Tx and when i push the button on the USB cord, it initiates the sync, but then it almost looks like it's 're-powering' and take me to the time setting. It won't sync at all. Can anyone help me?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

If it's taking you to the "time setting", it's doing a "Reset" by itself.  This is not a good thing, as you've figured out already.
As with most problems that occur on a Palm PDA, it is either software or hardware related and we have to determine which one.
Best method is to first make a complete backup of your unit to your SD card using the free "NVBackup" (available from http://www.freewarepalm.com) After the backup is complete, Hard Reset the unit, then test to see if full functionality returns.  (Since you can't HotSync, this will only apply to you if you have the program installed already!)
DO NOT HOTSYNC YET! Test the unit before reinstalling any software. If the unit works correctly, your problem is being caused by a "drug interaction" of software - maybe one rogue program, or a combination of several. You'll have to reinstall the third-party programs one or a few at a time to find the problem one. To avoid re-installing a software issue, rename your /Backup directory in your Palm folder (on a PC it's found here: C/Program Files/Palm(One)/"your HotSync ID name truncated"/Backup) to something like "/BackupOLD". Now perform the HotSync, choose your HotSync name you've been using, and all your PIM data will return, but not the third-party programs. Test for functionality again. If all is good, start installing the old programs from your /BackupOLD directory one (or a few if brave) at a time.
If the unit does not work after a Hard Reset is performed correctly, then it may be Hardware-related. (If it's a connection problem via either BlueTooth or Wifi, be sure nothing has changed on the unit you're trying to connect to!)
    Hope this has helped,

  • Palm TX won't connect to computer via WiFi for Hotsync

I've tried the network Hotsync on all my computers, XP, Vista 32 and Vista 64 (which started the whole attempt) and the device fails to connect to the computer, even when I put in the IP address.
My wireless network sees the Palm and I am able to access the Internet through it, but it won't connect to my computers. Any suggestions?

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Here's my Wifi Hotsync help file:
    Wifi HotSync with a TX
    1. On your PC, locate the HotSync Manager (little HotSync icon in the lower right tool tray on a Winbox). Click on it and check off "Network", then click again and select Setup.
    2. Pick the Network tab up top in the window that opens, and find your HotSync name in the list. Make sure it's checked.
    3. Tap the TCP/IP button, and look at the IP address listed for "Primary PC Address". Write it down.
    4. Turn on Wifi on your Palm and connect to your router.
    5. On your Palm, select the HotSync program and tap the word "Network" above the HotSync icon in the middle of the screen. Below it, enter the IP address you wrote down in step 3. (Include the periods!).
    6. Tap the big HotSync icon above the IP address, and hold on!
    7. If you're holding on, and nothing happens try a wired HotSync, then try the Wifi HotSync again. Sometimes, information has to transfer from your PC after you check off the Network option. Also, be sure to watch for any Firewall activity asking you about "HotSync.exe is trying to access your hard drive" etc. You may need to set a rule to allow it.
On your TX, check these settings from the pull-down menu in Hotsync:
    Modem Sync: Network
    LanSync: :LANSync
Network Setup: (Wifi should be listed as one of the networks)

  • My Palm TX won't preform a HotSync without crashing

I recently went a couple of week without HotSyncing and then finally did yesterday.  After finishing the HotSync my TX crashed and was stuck in a reset loop. I first performed a warm reset which pulled it out of the loop until it shut off and when I brought it back up it was in a loop again.  So I preformed a Hard reset and HotSynced to get my data back on the TX, this once again through it into the same loop. So I thought it might be something on my pc so I backed up my data and used my cd to remove and reinstall Palm Desktop and repeated the Hard reset.  But this didn't fix it, same problem on HotSync.  As of now I hav a working wiped TX with no way to get my old data on it.  Is there some way to get my calandar, contact, and memo data back on it with HotSyncing, like maybe thought the SD card.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

When you delete Palm Desktop, it does not delete user data unless you manually Delete the folder tree.
You need to find the directory and rename the /Backup section of it to anything else - "/BackupOLD" works just fine (no quotes).
This will give you your PIM data back, but it will not install any of the programs causing the problem.
The directory (on a windows machine) looks like this:
    C:/Program Files/Palm/ Hotsync user name truncated /Backup.
    In short:
    - hard reset
    - locate backup folder under palm desktop folder tree
    - rename to backup_old
    - sync, select old id. This will bring back PIMs (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos) but no settings nor programs
    - reinstall applications one by one AFTER making sure they are compatible with the target device.

  • New palm 700wx won't appear on computer during HotSync

I received a refurbished Palm Treo 700wx (used to have a Palm Treo 700 Palm-based) phone. The photos from the old Palm transferred to folders on my computer, which uses Windows XP Pro. How can I get the photos from the 700wx to transfer to the computer?
Post relates to: Treo 700wx (Alltel)

Since the 700wx is a Windows Mobile based phone, you don't use Palm HotSync as the way to transfer data.  Instead, you use MicroSoft ActiveSync!
Do you have this installed on your computer?

  • HELP- PALM TX won't synch calendar

Palm TX on bluetooth synch gets stuck every time in synching Calendar/datebook. Won't cancel just runs on and on. I have to close it on the laptop using task manager (Vista).
    Any help would be appreciated
    Post relates to: Tungsten T

There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.
    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
To install the program, set all conduits to "do nothing" except quick install or install if using Palm desktop 6.2.
After you install the program on the handheld, run the scan and also scan for Blobs in the calendar.
After you clean-up the database on the handheld, set the conduits in hotsync to handheld overwrites desktop and perform a hotsync.
If you are sync'ing to a 64bit OS, there are 64bit USB drivers avail from Acceca. Go to the Windows hotsync section of the forums and look for the sticky thread with the link to the drivers.
Once you have the data corrected and are sync'ing all your data, I would suggest you export your data for disaster recovery.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a separate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb2/common/article/28734_en.html
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.hpwebos.com webpage.

  • Palm TX won't complete sync

I am using Vista Home (32bit); Outlook 2007; and Palm Desktop 6.2.2.  Palm OS Garnet v5.4.9
When I try to hotsync to Outlook, it starts off nicely, but then quickly bogs down.  It hasn't completed a hotsync yet.  Hangs up in the contacts.  Last attempt, it took over 9 hours to get through most of the 800 or so contacts.
It Hotsyncs OK to Palm Desktop (in about 1 minute), but I need the Outlook functionality for my job.
I've tried going back to Outlook 2003, with the same results.  Seems to be something with Vista.  Everything works OK with XP.
Any ideas on the issue or what to try next.  Trying to avoid rebuilding the computer with XP.
    Thanks

    Post relates to: Palm TX

this is seems to be file corruption that causes the sync to behave this way.
it is always seen when you sync in vista via palm desktop 6.2 from previous computer.
all you need to do is download the file or application called dbfixit. just click the link http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
use this for the hanging on the contacts during hotsync. to install the program, you need to set the the 4 PIM's: calendar, contacts, tasks and memos to do nothing in the hotsync manager so it won't hang up during hotsync. in the 6.2, all you need to do is to uncheck those PIM's mentioned. launch install tool and add the PRC file then load the application via hotsync. once you are done with hotsync, locate the file after the hotsync and run it in your device. it will fix the corruption because it will detect all the corrupt records inside. just follow the onscreen instructions. after you're done, you run the hotsync again. however you need to set back the PIM's to handheld overwrites desktop and then proceed with the sync.
