Palm V will not sync

My computer (Dell Inspiron laptop running XP pro) is connected to my Palm V by a serial to USB cable.  Yesterday my computer crashed.  It also turned out that my Palm (sitting in my purse) had run out of battery power and lost all data.  5 hours later, I had a working computer, but my Palm will no longer sync to the desktop.  The sync has been working flawlessly since I purchased the computer about 5 years ago. I charged the Palm.   I have set the Desktop (3.0.1) to desktop overwrites handheld in the appropriate places.  I have done several soft resets on the Palm.
I press the sync button and get the normal tone and the identifying user message.  I click the user (I am the only one) and the Palm immediately reads "cleaning up please wait" followed by "Hot Sych Problem    Hot Sych operation was interrupted.  Some of your data was NOT backed up.  For details tap Hot Sync Log on the Hot Sych screen."
The log reads "Hot Sync operation was terminated. Some of your data was NOT backed up."
Nothing backs up.  Help please!!!
I just learned that in addition to not being able to sync the Palm with the desktop, NOTHING that I add to the Palm Desktop is saved when I close the desktop.

Check out either MusicTones or MiniTones, both free programs that work similarly.  Available from freewarepalm.com.
They will scan your SD card for songs, then let you edit out a slice right on your Centro.  You choose the Start and Stop locations of the "slice".  When satisfied, click the "Add" button, and it will appear in your list of Ringtones.

  • Palm Centro will not sync with pTunes (Sprint)

I have searched high and low for some answers but to no avail.
So here is my problem that I couldn't find answers to on pockettunes.com. I have purchased an SD card to play .mp3's on my phone and the only way I can get them to the card is by using the Desktop Installer. When I start pTunes on the phone while hooked into the USB cable it repeatedly plays the connect/disconnect sound randomly.  I have no trouble at all using HotSync to backup all my address book and images but will not sync with pTunes. All my settings are correct as far as I read and I have all the latest versions of the required software. I tried to use the browser to download a ringer from the SD card and it says the file size is 0kb and will not play, but it plays fine in pTunes. So my main concern is with the pTunes sync. It just doesn't won't to acknowledg the device as being connected.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Palm z22 will not sync with windows vista

I have been following the forums and this seems to be consistent issue and no one seems to be able to give a straight answer as to what to do. I like to consider myself a biut of a techie, but this blows my mind. My computer recognized my z22 twice and synced twice, but ever since it synced with it the second time and i installed my belkin wireless key board it stopped working. I don't know why but my computer will no longer recognize the device, i've tried everything i've seen discussed i've installed different versions of palm desktop i've tried restarting my palm in everyway possible, there is no way on earth i am going to reload vista or wipe my hard drive or any crap like that i've got to much stuff and i don't have the disks for it anymore anyway. so what am i supposed to do. i'm trying to keep cool but this is sort of something i'm counting on working to help me keep organized while i go through college, and i think it's understandable that i would be a little frustrated.

  • My palm m105 will not sync, but my wifes will

My palm was synchronizing well until a few days ago. It seems to be failing to recognize my user name. I have tried a soft reset, hard reset, batteries left out to clear memory, new username, all to no avail. I have the program on both a desktop and laptop. Neither works. HOWEVER, my wife's m105 syncs on both of them.

Hello oldjoeclark, Welcome to the Palm Support Community!
Check the condition of the gold fingers at the HotSync port on the m105.  Many times, HotSync errors can be traced to dirty contacts, damaged pins, etc.  You could try cleaning the pins with alcohol and a q-tip (pull the batteries when doing this!)
Are you using the same HotSync cable as the functioning device?  Or is the cable possibly damaged that you are trying to use?

I have a Windows Vista, downloaded Hotsync Manager 7.0.2 and all data (contacts/calendar) from Palm Centro will not appear in Palm Desktop.  I have made sure that:
    1. user name in Hotsync is the same as is in Palm Desktop
    2. tried different user name (suggested "Test" ) with no luck
    3. changed name of device through "prefs" icon (at least, in Bluetooth, Device Name is "Palm Centro") I am unable to find another option to change the name of the device for syncing purposes if it is not through Bluetooth
Any other suggestions?  I have made entries into te Palm Desktop calendar, do a Hotsync and the entries from the Palm Desktop entries are not appearing into the Palm Centro, and the Centro's contacts and calendar entries are not showing up in the Palm Desktop.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreaciated!

Do you have the Centro set to sync with Microsoft Outlook by mistake?  Look in Outlook and see if your info is there.
If it is, you can run a simple program in your Start/All programs/Palm/PIM Conduit Sync/Sync with Palm Desktop to switch it back.

  • Palm Centro Verizon, Palm Desktop 4.1.4, Calendar WILL NOT SYNC

as above.  I tried to install the V6.2 desktop that came with the phone; the Hotsync crashes every time it starts (some HS20Log.dll problem), so I installed 4.1.4.
The calendar will not sync.  It hangs forever and ever.  Everything else syncs just fine.
I brought my trusty M515 home, synced it with the home computer, then synced the Centro to get the data.  It synced ONCE (the calendar) and never again.
I reformatted the disk and reinstalled the OS (XP SP3), got the same V6.2 hotsync problem and reverted to 4.1.4, and that's where I am now.
    Help.

Glad you got things to sync, just a quick thought.
4.1.4 is a rather old version of Palm Desktop.  I would have suggested you try 4.1.4E, as it was designed for later devices and has some updated USB drivers in it...

Take a look at http://kb.palm.com solution id 31167 it addresses the OLERR errors typically with only the calendar being a problem it's one of two things
    1. You have calendar events with no end dates - Give these events end dates
    2. You have events that span past midnight - Have these events end on the first day and then a new event start the second day.

  • Phone will NOT sync calendar

I just bought this very expensive phone that I have spent the last 2 days trying to get to do the simplest task. I should have kept using my reliable Palm PDA. My I-Phone will not sync from my calendar to my phone. I have read every discussion on here and tried many solutions, but nothing has worked. In fact it has gotten worse. At the beginning I at least got a few, very few, appointments to sync, but now nothing works. I feel like it is something very simple in the way the phone or Outlook is set up since some people get theirs to work right away and some after some trial and error. Right now I just want to throw mine out a window. Does anyone have any step by step instructions you would share with me? I am willing to work through steps, trying one thing, then another. I just want it to work.
    PLEASE HELP!

I figure I'll get the contacts to sync correctly before I pull my hair out with the contacts. So, syncing my Outlook 2003 calendar to my iPhone's driving me crazy. I tried the Apple instructions, but it still is acting strange. The first calendar entries I made worked fine -- setting a bunch of recurring daily events -- but then I tried to enter events that occur on the first Thurs of each month, or the 3rd Monday of each month, and that's when I started having trouble. Sometimes they sync to the phone, but in the wrong week/day slot, sometimes they are missing altgether. One of the great advantages of having this iPhone is to be able to work between calendars, contacts, email and phone applications. If it won't sync correctly, I should have spent a lot less money and gotten something that would else. I'm still naive enough to think that it will work.
Actually, I should be able to sync Outlook to the iPhone or the iPhone to Outlook. But that doesn't seem to work right either. Do I need to take everything off and start over?

  • Treo 755 will not sync with my computer anymore

I have a Treo 755 (Palm os) and it will not sync with my computer anymore. I have a PC with Win XP pro SP3. The last time it sync'ed was about two months ago, I had to fiddle with the connection before it would work. Now when I plug the phone in and push the button, the computer chimes but that is all that it will do. After it times out the phone gives an error message. I am thinking that maybe it is the cable or phones contacts that are bad. (It has always been hard to unplug the cable from the phone). I have also tried reinstalling the software with no luck. How can I check the connections, is there another way to sync with my computer?
Post relates to: Treo 700wx (Telus Mobility)

It said that the connection between my handheld and desk top could not be established. After I posted yesterday I looked though the web site and found were is said to blow out any dust from the terminals on the handheld so I did and it worked. This morning I tried it again and it will not connect. It must be one of the connections either on the handheld or on the cable. Is there a way of testing either? The computer is recognizing the handheld but it just will not communicate.

  • Ipod not found - will not sync; restored and lost everything. Please help.

    To whom it may concern,
My iPod Classic has worked perfectly for the few years I've had it. I only use it a few times a month on average so it's still in really nice shape.
Earlier today, I went to sync it like I do every couple of weeks whenever I add new songs, and something strange occurred. At first, it seems to say "Syncronizing..." but quickly stops and displays the "Connected" status instead - not long enough to sync even one song.
Sure enough, I checked it and it had not updated.
After using the "Run Diagnostics" option, it tells me "Device Sync Tests Results: No iPod touch, iPhone or iPad found."
Yet - under "Device Connectivity Tests", it does say "iPod Found" and it shows up as a device in my iTunes - but not in my Devices (under Preferences).
I followed every step in the troubleshooting guide that iTunes directed me to, each with the same results. As a last resort, I used a Factory Restore, which was what the website told me to do.
To my horror, the problem STILL persists - and I just cleared out not only all of my songs, but photos that were very important to me that I only had on my ipod. I even tried to do a backup first, but my device would not show up under the "Preferences/Devices" category, I could not even save them before I restored it.
Now I am stuck with an ipod that will not sync with my itunes library, and an ipod that has absolutely nothing on it. At least before I restored it, it had all of my old music and photos on it.
This is very frustrating and upsetting. If there is anything that might be able to be done, please help - and please, do not send me back to the same webpage - I already tried everything there at least twice now.
I also borrowed a different cable to make sure it wasn't my adapter, and there was no difference.
    To make matters worse, as I am trying to find someone to assist me, I received this message after entering my serial number;
"It looks like your product is not covered for complimentary technical support, so you may need to purchase a single incident of support."
This iPod already cost me $250.00 and that was steep in and of itself. I really do not feel that it would be fair to have to pay even more just to get some help when it malfunctions.
If absolutely anything can be done, please help me. I would be very grateful.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

This issue has been resolved - my Support Advisor, Edgar, was able to discern what was causing the problem.
It appears that, despite years of never experiencing this, one of the latest ipod updates actually altered my device's personal settings and changed it to "Manual" for all synchronizing; even performcing Factory Restores did not change it back to being automatic.
My ipod is working as good as ever now thanks to Edgar. If anyone else is having this problem, please make sure you check your device's settings in iTunes and see if "Manual" is checked - even if you never changed the settings yourself and have no reason to suspect that to be the problem, as was the case here. If it is checked - uncheck it to enable automatic syncing.
So relieved this was not a much more serious problem. I've missed having my music on the go. Thanks, Edgar!
