Palm VIIx HELP

I have a need to retrieve some critical information from my PalmVIIx and it appears that the batterys have died and the unit has reverted to its initial set up mode.  Is there any way to recover my date & address book information?

Unless you have the information saved on your computer (you have been Hotsyncing regularly as recommended by Palm, correct?) then it is gone.  The memory structure of your device is Volatile RAM.  It needs electricity to retain the information.  When gone, you are left with nothing but zeros...

  • Palm VIIx needs help!

    My Palm VIIx is acting up and I could use some help!  The start-up page is flashing rapidly on the display and I cannot get to the address book, note pad, calendar, etc.  When I attempt to turn it off I get a message that says (Erase all data? YES - "up" button  NO - any other button."  I  have tried the reset button on the back but it's done nothing.  I do not wish to lose all the data stored but I can no longer sync and back-up to a PC.  Any suggestions?

  • Hot Synch Palm VIIx - Macintosh Unsuccessful

    I have spent a  considerable amount of time looking through the various threads looking to see if I could get the HotSynch of my Palm Pilot VIIx to work on my Mac Powerbook G4 and have thus far been unsuccessful.
    I have a PowerBook G4 Mac OS X version 10.4.11
    I recently installed the Palm software from the Palm website for Mac version 4.2.1
    Palm Pilot VIIx version 3.5 with the Serial Cable
    Keyspan USA-19HS which others on the forum have said works. I installed the drivers, I think - correctly as I am a novice at all of this computer stuff.
    How do I know if I have revision A or D installed as I do not recall which one I downloaded?  As it looks like revision A supports the VII series, and from what I can see version D does not.
    When I hit the HotSynch on the palm it opens the hotsynch progress window with a status of Establishing connection.  I do not get any beeps. The green led on the usb to serial adapter blinks 2 times then goes solid green.  After a period of time the palm will beep and bring up a message box saying that the Connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.  I have checked numerous items as outlined in many of the other posts to no avail. In the HotSync software set up window the button is clicked on for HotSynch enabled.  In the status window it says: HotSynch software is enabled. To disable the HotSynch software, click the "disabled" radio button above. Listening on usa19h3b1p1.-port.
    I know that the cable and the palm will hotsynch as I have been using this serial cable with a different usb to serial adapter to successfully synch to my PC.
    Right now I can not remember all of the other things that I have tried, but many of them were on the threads for the Palm V.
    Thanks in advance for your kind suggestions and assistance.

  • Lost CD for Palm VIIx

    Hi,
    I just had my palm VIIx Since 2003 and I just open last week and I just had my CD and I lost my CD
    I couldn't find my CD
    I want to know if there any possiblity
    to have new CD and Can you send me new CD for my Palm VIIx in mail ?
    Thanks,
    Wendy

    Hello Wendy, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
    Alas, Palm Inc. no longer exists, and they stopped providing the installation disks a long time ago.  :-(
    What do you need from the disc?   If Palm Desktop and Hotsync is all you need, these can still be downloaded from this link:
    http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb/na/treo/retired/unlocked/home/page_en.html
    Only other source of the discs that I know of would be eBay, etc....

  • Wireless connection speed for J2ME app on Palm VIIx device

    I have just developed a J2ME app on Palm VIIx device. Everything works exactly as what I have designed, except that the wireless communication to send and receive infomation is painfully slow. It takes about 1 min. to send and receive 300 charactors on the Palm VIIx device. As for comparisons, it only takes few seconds on the simulator(connected through LAN/WAN) for the same application. And for other defaultly installed non-J2ME wireless applications on the Palm VIIx device, e.x., ABC News, Amazon, etc., it also only takes few seconds to retrieve 500~600 characters.
    Does anybody know why the J2ME wireless communication on Palm VIIx device is so slow? Any solutions?
    My code is like in the following:
    private String getWirelessQueryResult(String urlStr) {
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    InputStream is = null;
    StreamConnection c = null;
    try {
    c = (StreamConnection)connector.open
    (urlStr,Connector.READ_WRITE);
    is = c.openInputStream();
    int ch;
    while((ch = is.read()) != -1) {
    sb.append((char)ch);
    } catch (IOException e) { sb = new StringBuffer("error"); }
    finally {
    try
    if(is != null) { is.close(); }
    if(c != null) { c.close();}
    catch (IOException e) {}
    return sb.toString();

    You've done nothing wrong with your code that I can see. I have run into the same problem on both the Kyocera and the Samsung palm OS phones. If you take the same code you have written here and put it on a motorola phone you will see a huge difference.
    I can only suspect it has to do with the single threaded nature of the palm OS itself. Luck.

  • Activating palm viix

    I recently got Palm viix (2), cd and all accessories for a cheap price. I am efficiently and effectively using most of the appliations with out activation. What is your activation suggestion? Thanks

    The Palm.net service that this device used through AT&T wireless ended back in 2003-2004. There is no way to activate this device any longer.

    my battery went out and is there anyway to get my informaton back ??  very inportatnt

    Unfortunately not,
    That device does have a compacitor for temp charge for swapping batteries but by now it cannot be effective if both batteries are replaces at once rather one at a time.  Only a hotsync can restore data at this point.

    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    You are asking a LOT of Basic Questions that can be answered by reading the User Guide that is included with every Palm on the installation disk.
    It can also be read by going to Palm.com and the suport page for your device.
    You add programs with Palm Desktop and the Hotsync application.
    Ad-hoc refers to Wifi.  Not possible.
    Wifi: not possible.

  • Telnet client for Palm VIIx that uses IR port

    Hi folks
    I know the IRda port on my Windows XP-equipped IBM ThinkPad can support TCP/IP connections via PPP (I've gotten those up and running before between two laptops, even if the connection died seconds later for unknown reasons).
    I know there's telnet clients out there for older Palms like my nifty VIIx, but before I pony up the shareware fee I'd like to know which ones support IR connections, or whether they all need to go thru a modem.  (Or maybe directly via the Hotsync cradle into the DB9 port of the telnet host? But then why would you be telnetting into said host...)
    Post relates to: Palm VIIx

    No.
    Your IR port cannot be used for syncing. The closest thing is to go out and purchase an external one.
    Keep in mind that the IR connectivity can be painfully slow... you're really better off using the cable.

  • Palm M100 help please...!

    K guys I jsut got a palm100 came with cradle and a serial to USB.
    - I plug my usb in and computers says download drivers... some Im assuming it recognizes the serial-to-USB.
    - Im running Vista 32 bit
    - I have the newest Palm Desktop with the program you need to hotsync old palms with it.
    I cant get it to sync any help would be nice.
    under local all I can choose is Direct Serial and IR. no option for USB not sure if that matters.
    I have the Palm Coonnect USB kit ... doesn't say compatible with Vista on the box.. since its an old serial to USB does that matter? When I plug it in my computer it beeps so it is recognizing something.
    Thank you for the help.
    Post relates to: Palm m100

    The newest Palm Desktop (6.2.2) will work with your older device, but not by itself.  You also have to download and install the free utility called PalmHotsyncSetup from www.pimlicosoftware.com.

  • Palm TX help

    Hi, I'm new to Palm, I just recently bought a Palm TX. I love it. However I have a problem with it. Everytime I opened up a program for example I opened a music folder and when I want to exit out that window I had to press on the HOME button because I can't find the exit or an X key anywhere to exit out the program. Can you guys help me please.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

    There is normally no "X" button in PalmOS.  You're thinking along the lines of Windows or Windows Mobile OS.
    Some programs will have an "Exit" option in their menus, but it's the same as tapping the Home button.
    PalmOS is not a true multi-tasking operating system.  When you tap Home, it stops the program where you left it, and will clear out the RAM being used by it.
    What you're doing is correct.

  • Palm Smartphone Help

    I'm hoping that someone can help me with this problem.  My son connected an xbox headset to his Palm smartphone the other day, which didn't work (by the way).  However, a slight side effect to this action is that he can no long talk nor hear anyone on his phone.  How do I correct this problem?

  • Possible convert to Blackberry from Palm - please help with outlook questions

    I'm debating switching from a Palm Treo 800 (battery life is awful) to Blackberry Curve. I chose the Treo because of active sync with my work exchange server and ability to open Office documents.
    Currently, I sync my outlook mail, tasks & calendar with work, and my contacts & notes with my home computer. So if i follow your instructions for using BIS instead of BES (my employer only provides BES service for a carrier which is not mine ...), will I be able to sync manually with a cable to my work computer for  calendar & tasks and then to my home computer for contacts & notes?
    I have to decide THIS WEEK if I'm going to switch from Palm to Blackberry, so please hurry! The blackberry seems like it's a lot more fun than the Palm, and your support is much more extensive and user-friendly!

    Ok, so if both machines are Outlook based, I would not see a problem,
    You would need  2 DM programs one at work and one at home.
    For work you can specify sync for tasks and calendar, for home sync contacts and notes.
    Both calendars would have to be the Outlook calendar as default.
    You can the have the synced BB and would have the ability to backup on both machines, or better yet, back up on one machine to eliminate confusion. In case of failure, you have a backup of ALL data.
    You wouldn't have to convert anything because Outlook is fully compatible with the Desktop Manager.
    I don't see a problem.
    Thanks

  • Palm VIIx

    I used my cradle to hot sink but it has a nine pin connector my lap top only has a usb connection. I bought a 9 pin to usb adaptor but my computer doesn't see the palm device. What do I need try?
    Post relates to: Palm VIIx

    Did the adapter have a driver disk to load BEFORE you plug it in?
    Is the adapter compatible with the OS on your computer?
    What do you have the HotSync Manager set for?  "Local" is incorrect, as this refers to a Serial connection.  You need to check off "Local USB".   If this option is not available, you'll need to download a newer version of Palm Desktop to your computer.
