Palm Z22 question

I just found my old Z22, and the battery is dead. I just plugged it in, and I was wondering does anybody know how long I have to wait before it will turn on?

OK!
Sounds like you got it running again.

When I hotsync, and the display pops up, I seem to have some double items....
My previous problem (fixed by dbfixit as suggested on this forum) was the hot sync was stalling on the second date book.
I see that when it's hotsyncing, it is checking off one at a time...
Should I delete the duplicates and how do I do that.  (they are not listed as duplicates on my hand held that I can see.
All this is hard work for me, so appreciate this forum and all your help.  sdm

  • Hot Synching Palm Z22 with 64 bit Windows 7

I just purchased a new Sony Vaio running 64 bit Windows 7 and I'm unable to Hot Sync my Palm Z22 to my computer.  I've been a Palm user for years, with my current one being my 3rd model and it's been my lifeline but I'm highly agitated and frustrated that the Palm folks haven't posted any updates to handle my current situation.  Everything I read here indicates spending additional money to go the infrared route and some people aren't even having success while others struggled a long time to make it eventually sync.  Does anyone out there have an identical situation as mine, who'd be willing to give me sound advice as to what I need to do and how to do it in order to get my Palm to communicate with my 64 bit Windows 7 platform?  Thank you to anyone who's able to assist.

    @MrCobol:
This subject has been discussed and beaten to death in many other threads here.  The facts (again) are:
    1. Palm sold the rights to Palm Desktop many years ago.  Railing against Palm/HP makes no sense.  If you want an update, complain to Access of Japan.  They are the owners of the software, and they chose to drop the ball.
    2. Many other companies have struggled to come up with 64bit drivers for their existing software (that they actually own!)
    3. Palm OS devices were EOL'd quite a while ago.  They were supported through Vista 32 bit.  Microsoft changed things, and you chose to buy a 64bit system.  HPalm has moved on to a whole new OS and devices, and support for PalmOS is nearing an end.
Yes, it would have been great if Access stepped up to the "plat" and provided a 64bit version of Palm Desktop, but that didn't happen.  Workarounds have been provided on this forum by devoted users, and they do work!

  • Palm z22 won't sync with Windows 7

I have a palm Z22 which I only use for geocaching. Has been working fine with Windows XP.
Just got a new computer running Windows 7. Installed from the disc (few years old)..wouldn't sync or recognize the PDA. Downloaded Palm Desktop 6.2 which was supposed to fix the problem..didn't work.
What now?? Would buy another Palm PDA if necessary. Are there any which will work on Windows 7?

You get asked it every day? Too much of a bother to you?
Assuming only one person per day contacts you about this issue (which I very much doubt), that would mean approximately 120 persons have bothered to ask the question since the release of Windows 7. This does not reflect the many who simply toss their Palm product in the trash, and buy a competitor's product.
It is incomprehensible to me that a patch has not been written yet. And it is obvious that you really just do not care. You present yourself as simply annoyed that you CUSTOMERS are asking for help.
No enterprise that relies on satisfied customers can long survive with an attitude that a portion of their users just don't matter.
Since this is only your third post here I'll try to help you out with some background information how forums work.
Questions that get asked over and over get special treatment - they get responses that are stuck to the top of each section of the forum, and are called "sticky posts".  They are placed prominently at the top, and have a dark background to attract the attention of New Users who may be unfamiliar how internet forums work. It's "assumed" anyone looking for answers would scan the top of a section first before posting questions.
Perhaps you missed the one for Windows 7?  Did you not get any results using the Search function?  How about using the new Tag function to click on "Windows_7"?  Have you been trying to sync to a 64bit system via cable?   Palm Desktop 6.2.2 works fine with 32bit Win7...
So you feel I don't care eh?  Do you see a Palm logo under my nickname?  You don't, due to the fact I am a VOLUNTEER here, sitting at home, and offering my years of experience with PalmOS devices freely to those asking for help.  I am the highest Kudo'd responder here (kudos=Thank You's), have the highest post count, and yes answering the same question over and over again does get tedious at times!
The plain fact remains that Palm Inc. is ending support for PalmOS devices, and those of us using them are on our own.  They sold Palm Desktop to a Japanese company named "Access" years ago, and have gone to webOS as their entire future.  Microsoft has changed their OS twice now (since XP), and you chose to purchase it/them.  Access finally came out with version 6.2.2 of Palm Desktop (for Vista), but that seems to be the end of the road as far as they're concerned.
One of the basic tenets of business is to attract new customers constantly.  Palm's PDA line was discontinued due to lack of sales.  Yes, I would have loved to have seen a TX2, or at least see Palm actually advertise and market what they actually had.  Palm Inc. has moved on, and would like everyone to purchase a webOS device now.
Welcome to the Forum, and I hope you get the answers you are seeking.

Status as a volunteer does not bestow license for rudeness.
It should be reasonably simple to provide a link to a summary of the Windows 7 sync problems, rather than replying to the questioner in the manner you did.
A problem so often asked about deserves to be handled helpfully, not sarcastically. Actually, no request for help of any kind should be treated so disparagingly.
And, although I have no intention of getting into a pissing contest with you, you are way off base in your response to me, dripping with disparagement and sarcasm.
Clearly, in your mind at least, anyone daring to criticize you must be an ignoramus.
I did not search the forum to arrive here.
I came to this forum page from an outside link. Had I realized it would bring me here, I would not have followed it.
I long ago gave up expecting anything helpful in the Palm forums as it relates to this issue.
You did however provide one major piece of useful information: that Palm has literally abandoned PDA users. Yet as recently as last November, the Palm Store in my City was actively selling PDA's including the Z22. One would think that those newly purchased devices would be supported for some reasonable amount of time, like at least a year!
Now I know what future products not to buy. And whom not to engage in conversation.

  • Broken Palm z22?

My palm z22 can turn on, but won't go past the "palm powered" display. I have countlessly reset it as well as wait till it was charged to reset and then wait till it ran out of power and charged again, then reset! I even tried pressing the power and the reset button at the same time. Nothing changed. It's still stuck at "palm powered" and constantly on wasting power. Please help!
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

There is some timing involved with performing a correct Hard Reset.
    To perform a Hard Reset:
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.

  • Palm Z22 Battery Charging

Is it ok to have the Palm Z22 "on" while charging?  Since it is on, I am able to see a broken battery icon at the top of the screen.  Do I charge the unit until it no longer shows the broken icon?  I was told last time to charge it 30 min per day.  Will this damage the battery, or give it memory?  What is the best approach to charging the battery?  Thank you for being there.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

You do not have to turn the screen on when charging.  That "broken battery" is actually a lightning bolt across the front of it - indicating charging is occurring.
Whenever I charge my devices, I just plug them in and leave them that way overnight.  The charge circuitry will shut off when "full".
Newer battery designs don't have the "memory" problem.

it can be replaced through repair. it's not replaceable by any other means except for the experts.
you can call palm for the repair process.
there are low cost repair options that are being offered in the web. one example is the PDAparts.
you can visit www.pdaparts.com and you will be redirected to a site where you an order devices and have it repaired as well.

My Palm Z22 will not power up.  It was working yesterday morning and just shut off while at my desk.  I thought it might be the battery so I plugged it in to charge it, but it still won't power up at all.  Is there some sort of reset button?

  • Palm z22 restoring portion of lost calendar items

Hello, I'm new here.  I have  palm z22 (v 4.5.2P) & I back up fairly regularly on my PC.  Learning from previous disasters, now when I back up, on my PC I "rename" my datebook (calendar) file from datebook.bak to datebook 02-03-10.bak (or whatever the current date is).  This allows me to save many backups so that if I get corrupt files on my handheld & do a sync, it won't overwrite my good backup file with a corrupt one.  The question I have is that the calendar (datebook) on my handheld is good for the last year or so, as well as in the future, but I recently discovered that everything has disappeared that was over a year (or so) old (except the recurring events).  I found my old datebook backup file from then, but I don't know how to restore to the calendar (datebook) on my handheld only the old items, without deleting the current and future items on my handheld.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Bob

First we need to create a new username in Palm Desktop. I would suggest calling it test. Then close Palm Desktop, and find the username in the C drive(Should be near your username). Then delete all the files in the datebook folder. Then delete all the files in the datebook folder. Copy the datebook.bak file you need to the test username datebook folder. Rename the datebook.bak file to datebook.dat.
Open Palm Desktop to see if your older data is in the Calendar. If it is then export it out by using file and export. Then move to your other username and then using import import the calendar you just exported in and you should be all set. Sync the data with desktop overwrites handheld and you should be done.
Post back if you have any more questions.

  • Not enough memory in my Palm Z22

I use my Palm Z22 primarily for my ePocrates drug prescription system at work. I have added only 1 other program to it, a Bible. To keep updated on drug changes I am supposed to sync about every 2 mos, I have never had problems until today when my Z22 informed me there was a memory shortage and could not save data, could not finish synching. I took off some of the games and things I don't use but show only 8.6 M out of 24.6 M of memory left. There are several categories I don't understand listed in my list of programs they begin AS_0_KT-Content and progress down in order with the 0 being replace by a 1, 2 etc to 9 the last category in this section is AS_Knowledge-Content. I am pretty illiterate when it comes to things like this so I would appreciate some help. Thanks deb

    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Lester, check for a "screen wedgie" - grit caught between the frame of the device and the screen.  It could be causing phantom screen presses, and make the calibration routine fail.
Try using a slice of a credit card, or a piece of paper folded into a scoop.
Do you have a screen protector on it?  Try removing it.
It is possible your screen has failed...       Repairs would cost more than a new unit.
