Have you done a soft or hard reset of the device yet? To do a soft reset if you do not know how to do one, is you put the stylus in the reset hole in the back of the device. If you do not know what a hard reset is go here http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887. Now I should tell you this will remove everything from the device and restore it back to factory settings. So you should sync it to a computer so you have your data backed up.
If you did a soft and hard resets and the problem is still not resolved you need to have the device repaired or replaced. You can call into our support at 866-935-7256.

  • Palm Z22 Screen Problem (Unique?)

So I know there are tons of posts about screen problems, but after some searching, I think mine is a little bit different.
My screen is not responding to taps, but at the same time it acknowledges them.  I'll try to explain: I cannot write or navigate with my stylus (navigation buttons still work), however if I turn off my unit with keylock and try to turn it back on, the screen seems to acknowledge that I'm trying to tap it (stays on as long as I keep tapping it instead of just turning off), although I cannot actually hit the "unlock" button.  I opened up the case and made sure there are no wedgies.  Additionally I tried writing while the cover was off and the screen was clean, and the situation is still the same.  Again, it does not turn off when I try and disable the keylock, but will not respond to specific stylus inputs.
I also tried to check the screen-to-board connection and it seems secure but since I don't know how to test its connectivity I cannot actually confirm if the input connection works (I'm assuming it's the smaller of the two cables, as the larger seems to supply power).
Any ideas what could be causing this?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

After performing the soft reset, press "done" with the buttons on your palm. You will be brought to the preferences screen. Use the 5 way navigator to move to the "touchscreen." Then, tap the center of the target (the x around three circles) and see if the target moves around the screen - to the top corner, middle and bottom corner. If it does, then after 3-5 taps, the touch should be aligned and your palm should be fine.
If the target moves from one corner to the other, your palm is probably at the end of it's life.
You could try one more thing - the hard reset which wipes everything off your palm. A hard reset is performed by holding down the power button while sticking something thin (your stylus, paper clip) into the back reset hole of your device. Keep your hand on the power button while you release the paper clip from the reset hole. The screen will now say "Palm Powered." Take your hand off the power button. You will now see a screen in 5 languages prompting you to erase all data from the palm. The screen will say "erase all data? Yes - up, no - down" and you need to click on the up arrow (silver button on the 5 way navigator on the bottom of the palm). This will erase all the info from your device.
If after the hard reset you are still not able to get the palm to move...well then, it's all over...

  • Palm Z22 old version-sync problems. Won't stop.

Have old Palm Z22. Downloaded new software and now can't sync.  It starts, won't stop or close. Must shut off computer to stop it!  Tried to uninstall new program, loaded old one from CD and still have the problem. Palm works fine but can't sync , so whats the point. Please Help.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Firstly, you do not have to shut down your computer to end the hot sync. Click Ctrl +Alt + Delete on your computer to bring up the task manager. Click on Hot Sync and click "end task" and then "end now" to the message that comes up on the computer screen to end the hot sync.
Then, restart the hot sync manager by clicking on Start > Programs/All Programs > Palm One/Palm Desktop > Hot Sync Manager. You will then see the hot sync icon (circle with red and blue arrows) on the bottom right of your computer screen right near where the time is displayed.
Do you use the calendar on your palm at all? Is there any info there that needs to be sync'd to your computer?

When I hotsync, and the display pops up, I seem to have some double items....
My previous problem (fixed by dbfixit as suggested on this forum) was the hot sync was stalling on the second date book.
I see that when it's hotsyncing, it is checking off one at a time...
Should I delete the duplicates and how do I do that.  (they are not listed as duplicates on my hand held that I can see.
All this is hard work for me, so appreciate this forum and all your help.  sdm

  • Palm Z22 frozen touch screen

Hi -- I can turn on my Palm Z22, I can reset it, i can use the buttons, but the touch screen doesn't work at all.  Does anyone know a fix for this?
    Thanks,
    Betsy
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

To add to this.....I just performed a hard reset and after confirming that I wanted to delete all data, it then asked me to "Tap the center of the target" with the stylus.  The target just keeps alternating between top left corner and bottom right corner in an endless loop and won't leave that screen no matter how many times I tap the target.  Is my Z22 gone for good?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Palm z22 dead screen?

I have a palm z22 that got damp on a misty overnight hike last week.  The screen backlight wouldn't turn on but the screen still seemed to be working.  I took the unit home, and the backlight would not come on, and the screen wouldn't function at all.  The unit has now dried for a week, has been charged.  It will synchronize, so I know the processor is working.  I have tried a soft and hard reset, and cleaned the screen.  The screen and backlight will not turn on.  Is there any hope for this unit or some technique that I haven't tried?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

The moisture could have corroded something. You could check with pdaparts.com and usedpdaparts.com on repair costs, but it may be more cost effective simply to replace.

  • Palm z22 problem

Have had a Palm Z22 for about 4 years. Cannot turn on, attach the charger and it may turn on but the minute I unplug it the screen goes black. Any ideas?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

This sounds like a failed battery, and would require a repair. being 4 years old would be more then the normal life span for the battery. an exchange on this device would cost 75.00. If you would like to set up a exchange you can call 866-935-7256 for tech support, or you can set up an exchange on the Palm web site at www.palm.com/support.

  • Palm Z22 - problem with my memo

My Palm Z22 - When I tap the memo icon the screen goes blank and I have to do a soft reset to get the Palm working. Everything else works fine. It sees I lost all my memos. What can I do?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Hello and welcome to the Palm forums.
Have you recently added something to your memos? It seems like there is a corrupt file in your memos.
Do you have your memos saved on your computer - were they sync'd to the computer before?

  • Palm Z22 Battery Charging

Is it ok to have the Palm Z22 "on" while charging?  Since it is on, I am able to see a broken battery icon at the top of the screen.  Do I charge the unit until it no longer shows the broken icon?  I was told last time to charge it 30 min per day.  Will this damage the battery, or give it memory?  What is the best approach to charging the battery?  Thank you for being there.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

You do not have to turn the screen on when charging.  That "broken battery" is actually a lightning bolt across the front of it - indicating charging is occurring.
Whenever I charge my devices, I just plug them in and leave them that way overnight.  The charge circuitry will shut off when "full".
Newer battery designs don't have the "memory" problem.

  • Need to set up palm Z22 on different computer

Hi.  I am having serious problems with my pc.  How can I set up my Palm Z22 and all its info into a different computer?
    I appreciate all your help!!
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Do you see the hot sync icon (circle with red and blue arrows) on the bottom right of your computer screen - right near where the time is displayed?
If it is not there, the hot sync will be disabled and you need to enable the program by opening the HOT SYNC MANAGER. This can be found when you click on Start > Programs/All Programs > Palm OS/Palm One > Hot Sync Manager.
The hot sync manager should then show up on your screen (on the bottom right) and you should be able to sync.
Let us know if this works for you!!

  • Why is it so hard to Return a Palm Z22.

I tried to return a dead palm Z22 that never worked right.  They tell me that I didn't purchase this item on Jan 25.  I purchased it on another date in 2007.  That is what happens when you buy stuff at Fry's.  You never know if it has been returned.  The clown from INDIA who's name is Jack.  Yeah right.  I have to fax the receipt to 408-935-0340 and then beg to be approved.
Check out Ebay a broken Palm Z22 is a very popular sales item.
I sent a maglite that had batteries swell back to maglite and received a new one in two weeks.  That is service and I bought two more maglites.
The call this number in INDIA crap has to end.  Support your product. Palm stock in sinking like a rock.  I think that I will just buy a blackberry and be done with this crap.
I am going to sue palm for the $99 this thing cost me.  See you in Small Claims Court.

    Post relates to: Zire
The Z22 an "entry-level" model.  Aka, "bottom of the line".  If you want a device with a better "feel", then you get what you pay for...
There are lots of users with no problems at all. You admit you purchased a possibly "returned" device from a reseller that may have been damaged.
Unfortunately, the question is pretty moot now since the entire PDA line is being discontinued in favor of a New OS and phones. The Z22 is history.

  • Isync3/Ical no longer working with Palm z22

I'm not sure when it started, but all of a sudden my ical stopped being able to sync with my Palm z22. It always used to give me an error message at sync, but I ignored it because it always transferred over 100% of the information I was using anyway (I only use calendar and address book).
First it stopped syncing my contacts, and then finally it stopped syncing the main parts of my Ical. As far as I can tell it still brings over events but places them in the "undefined" tag at 7am that day, without any notes: totally useless.
I tried everything I could think of last night after googling for four hours and eventually an Isyncing caused a fatal error on my Palm which lost my entire contact list. Which now renders the thing useless until I can restore it. I run a business and work out of it!
The error I'm getting says this (I bolded the part I think is the problem, after multiple searches):

Please help - as I said I run my business out of Ical, address book and the ability to sync with my palm.

Internet searches for hours provided absolutely no help either.
I'm actually really cheesed that no one seems to have paid any attention to this issue.
I ended up having to hard-reset my device (everything is backed up on the computer and I can't sync anything new so it's USELESS to me now), reinstall everything from scratch and try again : now I don't get an error message, but when it comes across the "iscync conduit" message on the hotsync message it lags for a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG time. Several minutes at least. The first few times I reset it thinking it was frozen.
And then at the end of all that nothing transfers anyway!
So, I'm done. I'm selling it to someone else. It's now a useless device to me thanks to whatever changed in Mac recently.

  • Palm Z22 and sync with Windows Vista 64-bit system

I have  been trying to sync my Palm Z22 with a new laptop that is running the 64-bit Vista.  Based on some posts I had located, I ordered an IrDA Wireless Bridge to try to resolve the connection problem.  Something isn't working right and I can't figure out how to fix the problem.  The IrDA adapter is listing in the hardware option on the computer so it appears to have installed correctly.  The laptop has inconsistently recognized the USB connection when I plug it in however.  I can not seem to get the IrDA adapter to recognize my Z22.  I've got the Z22 set up to use the infrared to transfer information.  I have noted that the "beam" feature is ON.  I have looked at APPS and have observed that most of those options are "locked" and when I have clicked on "contacts" for example, it says it's a locked app and can not be beamed.  I don't know if that is part of the problem  or unrelated.  I also happened to observe that the Apps are listed as what to transfer with MODEM connection but I'm not sure why that is even showing as a connection option since I've never used the modem to connect.
I can successfully use my Z22 to connect via USB cable to my Vista 32-bit computer system.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in my attempts to use the adapter and connecting the Z22 with the new laptop.
I'm not sure what else to do and would very much appreciate some help with this.  Could someone PLEASE tell me what I may be doing wrong re: the setup connection between the adapter and Z22 or any other ideas re: what the problem may be concerning why I'm not yet being successful in getting this setup to work...?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Sorry for the delay in replying (bet you were hoping this worked, huh?) but it has taken some time to uninstall & reinstall the Palm software and make numerous attempts to configure the information to again try to sync the Z22 with the laptop.  I went back to amazon.com and located the device I'd purchased to confirm it would work with the 64-bit Vista.  Someone had posted their success in using the adapter for exactly what I need to do - sync my Z22 with a 64-bit Vista computer.  That consumer's posting noted: "The USB 1510 provided the solution. As soon as I plugged it into the USB port of the laptop, Vista went online, found the driver, and installed it. I was able to set up IR Hotsync as I would have on any laptop with a built-in IRDA port."
I don't know what problem I'm having but have noted that my palm desktop software doesn't note what device (Z22) is to be connected and I can't find anything in the HotSync manager that allows me to specify that device.  For some reason, I had gotten an error message and it referenced a Treo connection which is odd since I don't have a Treo and I downloaded this Palm desktop from the Z22 site online...?  I did note my software on my Z22 is a v. 5 but when I checked various support sites online, it appears to indicate that version on my Z22 would be compatible with the Palm 6.2 version I just downloaded to my computer (and I can't find any information to indicate a newer software for my Z22 is available or how to do that either).
So, I'm back to not being able to get my Z22 to be recognized by my computer via the infrared adapter.  I'm hoping that some of the added information I've been able to provide may give another clue of something else I can try before I have to give up and contact Amazon to return this device and either try to decide what other device may be an option.  I had checked with a local computer supply store here but they don't carry any type of device for this purpose so that's why I resorted to searching online for a solution to this problem.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may still be able to provide.  I really do appreciate your time with this matter.

just upgraded my powerbook G4 to mac os x 10.5.1, now unable to successfully complete hotsync. new events on my palm DID get added to my iCal, but hotsync manager dies before completion with an error message. see below for hotsync log details.

Assuming only one person per day contacts you about this issue (which I very much doubt), that would mean approximately 120 persons have bothered to ask the question since the release of Windows 7. This does not reflect the many who simply toss their Palm product in the trash, and buy a competitor's product.
It is incomprehensible to me that a patch has not been written yet. And it is obvious that you really just do not care. You present yourself as simply annoyed that you CUSTOMERS are asking for help.
No enterprise that relies on satisfied customers can long survive with an attitude that a portion of their users just don't matter.
Since this is only your third post here I'll try to help you out with some background information how forums work.
Questions that get asked over and over get special treatment - they get responses that are stuck to the top of each section of the forum, and are called "sticky posts".  They are placed prominently at the top, and have a dark background to attract the attention of New Users who may be unfamiliar how internet forums work. It's "assumed" anyone looking for answers would scan the top of a section first before posting questions.
Perhaps you missed the one for Windows 7?  Did you not get any results using the Search function?  How about using the new Tag function to click on "Windows_7"?  Have you been trying to sync to a 64bit system via cable?   Palm Desktop 6.2.2 works fine with 32bit Win7...
So you feel I don't care eh?  Do you see a Palm logo under my nickname?  You don't, due to the fact I am a VOLUNTEER here, sitting at home, and offering my years of experience with PalmOS devices freely to those asking for help.  I am the highest Kudo'd responder here (kudos=Thank You's), have the highest post count, and yes answering the same question over and over again does get tedious at times!
The plain fact remains that Palm Inc. is ending support for PalmOS devices, and those of us using them are on our own.  They sold Palm Desktop to a Japanese company named "Access" years ago, and have gone to webOS as their entire future.  Microsoft has changed their OS twice now (since XP), and you chose to purchase it/them.  Access finally came out with version 6.2.2 of Palm Desktop (for Vista), but that seems to be the end of the road as far as they're concerned.
One of the basic tenets of business is to attract new customers constantly.  Palm's PDA line was discontinued due to lack of sales.  Yes, I would have loved to have seen a TX2, or at least see Palm actually advertise and market what they actually had.  Palm Inc. has moved on, and would like everyone to purchase a webOS device now.
Welcome to the Forum, and I hope you get the answers you are seeking.

Status as a volunteer does not bestow license for rudeness.
It should be reasonably simple to provide a link to a summary of the Windows 7 sync problems, rather than replying to the questioner in the manner you did.
A problem so often asked about deserves to be handled helpfully, not sarcastically. Actually, no request for help of any kind should be treated so disparagingly.
And, although I have no intention of getting into a pissing contest with you, you are way off base in your response to me, dripping with disparagement and sarcasm.
Clearly, in your mind at least, anyone daring to criticize you must be an ignoramus.
I did not search the forum to arrive here.
I came to this forum page from an outside link. Had I realized it would bring me here, I would not have followed it.
I long ago gave up expecting anything helpful in the Palm forums as it relates to this issue.
You did however provide one major piece of useful information: that Palm has literally abandoned PDA users. Yet as recently as last November, the Palm Store in my City was actively selling PDA's including the Z22. One would think that those newly purchased devices would be supported for some reasonable amount of time, like at least a year!
Now I know what future products not to buy. And whom not to engage in conversation.
