Hi - my z22 won't turn on. Stays dark and dead even when connected to charger or usb-computer. I've been using it regularly with no problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

Are you sure that you charger is working? You can test this with a voltmeter (maybe you local Radio Shack could help you with this), or by trying it on another device that is working. Have you tried a reset on charge? If this does not work you can try a repeated reset process by pressing and releasing the reset button 10 times in a row as quickly as possible. Sometimes this will activate the device again. If none of these options works you should try a hard reset. A hard reset will delete all data on your device.
    You may need to hard reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;
    XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
    Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.
Show file extensions for XP or Vista
    XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
    Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

  • Palm Z22 won't power up

My Palm Z22 will not power up.  It was working yesterday morning and just shut off while at my desk.  I thought it might be the battery so I plugged it in to charge it, but it still won't power up at all.  Is there some sort of reset button?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Look at the back of the device for the tiny hole marked "Reset"... Press gently with a paperclip, etc. and release.

  • Palm z22 won't sync with Windows 7

I have a palm Z22 which I only use for geocaching. Has been working fine with Windows XP.
Just got a new computer running Windows 7. Installed from the disc (few years old)..wouldn't sync or recognize the PDA. Downloaded Palm Desktop 6.2 which was supposed to fix the problem..didn't work.
What now?? Would buy another Palm PDA if necessary. Are there any which will work on Windows 7?

You get asked it every day? Too much of a bother to you?
Assuming only one person per day contacts you about this issue (which I very much doubt), that would mean approximately 120 persons have bothered to ask the question since the release of Windows 7. This does not reflect the many who simply toss their Palm product in the trash, and buy a competitor's product.
It is incomprehensible to me that a patch has not been written yet. And it is obvious that you really just do not care. You present yourself as simply annoyed that you CUSTOMERS are asking for help.
No enterprise that relies on satisfied customers can long survive with an attitude that a portion of their users just don't matter.
Since this is only your third post here I'll try to help you out with some background information how forums work.
Questions that get asked over and over get special treatment - they get responses that are stuck to the top of each section of the forum, and are called "sticky posts".  They are placed prominently at the top, and have a dark background to attract the attention of New Users who may be unfamiliar how internet forums work. It's "assumed" anyone looking for answers would scan the top of a section first before posting questions.
Perhaps you missed the one for Windows 7?  Did you not get any results using the Search function?  How about using the new Tag function to click on "Windows_7"?  Have you been trying to sync to a 64bit system via cable?   Palm Desktop 6.2.2 works fine with 32bit Win7...
So you feel I don't care eh?  Do you see a Palm logo under my nickname?  You don't, due to the fact I am a VOLUNTEER here, sitting at home, and offering my years of experience with PalmOS devices freely to those asking for help.  I am the highest Kudo'd responder here (kudos=Thank You's), have the highest post count, and yes answering the same question over and over again does get tedious at times!
The plain fact remains that Palm Inc. is ending support for PalmOS devices, and those of us using them are on our own.  They sold Palm Desktop to a Japanese company named "Access" years ago, and have gone to webOS as their entire future.  Microsoft has changed their OS twice now (since XP), and you chose to purchase it/them.  Access finally came out with version 6.2.2 of Palm Desktop (for Vista), but that seems to be the end of the road as far as they're concerned.
One of the basic tenets of business is to attract new customers constantly.  Palm's PDA line was discontinued due to lack of sales.  Yes, I would have loved to have seen a TX2, or at least see Palm actually advertise and market what they actually had.  Palm Inc. has moved on, and would like everyone to purchase a webOS device now.
Welcome to the Forum, and I hope you get the answers you are seeking.

Status as a volunteer does not bestow license for rudeness.
It should be reasonably simple to provide a link to a summary of the Windows 7 sync problems, rather than replying to the questioner in the manner you did.
A problem so often asked about deserves to be handled helpfully, not sarcastically. Actually, no request for help of any kind should be treated so disparagingly.
And, although I have no intention of getting into a pissing contest with you, you are way off base in your response to me, dripping with disparagement and sarcasm.
Clearly, in your mind at least, anyone daring to criticize you must be an ignoramus.
I did not search the forum to arrive here.
I came to this forum page from an outside link. Had I realized it would bring me here, I would not have followed it.
I long ago gave up expecting anything helpful in the Palm forums as it relates to this issue.
You did however provide one major piece of useful information: that Palm has literally abandoned PDA users. Yet as recently as last November, the Palm Store in my City was actively selling PDA's including the Z22. One would think that those newly purchased devices would be supported for some reasonable amount of time, like at least a year!
Now I know what future products not to buy. And whom not to engage in conversation.

  • Palm Z22 won't sync to new laptop Windows Vista 64 bit

I just got a new laptop and I am unable to sync my Palm Z22 with windows vista 64 bit.  My computer keeps saying I need a device driver installed but it can't find it.  I did read some of the other threads but am still confused.  My laptop is bluetooth compatible but my palm is not.  Is there a way to make my Palm bluetooth capable?  Or any other way for the device to sync?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Because the Z22 has neither Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (and has no way to add either, because it lacks an expansion card slot), the only way to Hotsync your Z22 to a Vista 64-bit computer is with Infrared (IR) beaming.  That means you will need to buy an IR adapter for your computer.  I don't have direct experience in making it work, but this thread discusses how:

  • Palm Pre Won't Turn On

I was just using my Pre, I set it down for a few minutes to play Bioshock 2, and when I came back to try and reply to a text, my phone was off, won't turn back on. I've plugged it in, held the power button for a minute, and taken out and put the battery back in.
When I plug it into the charger or my computer, there's no screen  light-up or anything. It seems dead, but the battery was fine 5 minutes ago.
    What's going on?

I had this problem a couple of days ago (have had my Pre since January). This issue happened when I let my battery fully run down (as I had forgotten to charge my Pre). It wouldn't turn on, so I assumed the battery was flat and plugged it in. Even after plugging it in, the battery charging icon didn't appear onscreen.
At this point, I figured it was a WebOS issue, so I was considering returning the phone. I went so far as removing my SIM card and popping it in a spare phone I have.
Meanwhile, I left the Pre charging all day, hoping it would come back to life. Sure enough, after a few hours, I came back to it, and it was finally turning on. I went ahead and popped the SIM back in, and it's been working fine ever since.
(On a battery life note, I again forgot to plug my Pre in last night, and was impressed to see that it still had over 20% left, after a full 24 hours since being charged!)

  • Palm TX won't turn off

I just received a hand-me-down Palm TX from my daughter.  She passes her Palm PDAs on to me since I am on Social Security and can't afford a new one.  The battery was dead since it had not been used for some time.  Plugged it in and charged it for about a half hour then played with it for a few minutes to make sure it was in working order.  Put it back in its cradle and noticed a short time later that it was cycling thru:  black screen (3 sec.), Palm logo and advancing black bar across bottom of screen (~5 sec.), grey screen with Palm Powered logo (35 sec.), then back to black and that xcycle kept up until the battery ran down again.  I tried a soft reset multiple times then several hard resets.  The power button will not turn it off nor do any of the application buttons work.  I'm getting really discouraged with the Palm product.  I now have in my possession a Palm V, Palm Tungsten T3, all their chargers and cables and none of them work.  They came to me in working order but didn't for long.  Please help if you can.
    Thanks,  Linda Lou

Hello LindaLou, I've owned many Palm devices and never has any of them failed on me!  From the IIIc on, I just handed them down also but in working order.
BIGJOA is right about doing a Hard Reset:
To perform a Hard Reset: (Palm Knowledgebase article #887)
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.

  • Palm TX won't turn on

My Palm TX just stopped working.  No button or reset will make anything happen, regardless of whether it is plugged in or not.
It was working fine this morning.  Then it started getting "jumpy" meaning that the screen appeared to be jumping up or down a pixel or two at a time.  Still readable and usable, but strange.   Then it totally stopped working and will not turn on.
Any ideas or suggestions?  Repair sources?  Replacement alternatives?
    Thanks.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Have you tried the resets after you charged it overnight? Once you recharge the battery, you should be able to get it to turn on. Try a soft reset (stick stylus into back reset hole) while it is plugged into the wall charger.

    Hi folks,
I have just upgraded a customer's server to a new box and I installed his Palm Software onto the box prior to cutting across and running up his Outlook Pst and Archive folders. Note this is not a Microsoft Server setup it just a standard box with a number of folder being shared across a wired network. He now reports that his Palm is not Synchrosing with his Outlook 2007. When I installed the Palm software I did enable the option for Outlook Sync when requested. Does anyone have any ideas on this problem before I venture out onsite?

Hello itronics and welcome to the Palm forums.
You probably need to install the Outlook 2007 update for Palm Desktop 4.x.  This update will not work with Palm Desktop 6.x.
    Hope that helps,

Do you have any 3rd party apps. installed on the device?
If not, then you need to try a hard reset to get the device back to factory condition. The hard reset will erase all data and 3rd party apps. on the device.

  • Palm Z22 old version-sync problems. Won't stop.

Have old Palm Z22. Downloaded new software and now can't sync.  It starts, won't stop or close. Must shut off computer to stop it!  Tried to uninstall new program, loaded old one from CD and still have the problem. Palm works fine but can't sync , so whats the point. Please Help.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Firstly, you do not have to shut down your computer to end the hot sync. Click Ctrl +Alt + Delete on your computer to bring up the task manager. Click on Hot Sync and click "end task" and then "end now" to the message that comes up on the computer screen to end the hot sync.
Then, restart the hot sync manager by clicking on Start > Programs/All Programs > Palm One/Palm Desktop > Hot Sync Manager. You will then see the hot sync icon (circle with red and blue arrows) on the bottom right of your computer screen right near where the time is displayed.
Do you use the calendar on your palm at all? Is there any info there that needs to be sync'd to your computer?

A Soft Reset will do no harm.  It's like rebooting your computer.
Simply tap the tiny "Reset" hole in the back of the device and it should come back to life!

My palm z22 can turn on, but won't go past the "palm powered" display. I have countlessly reset it as well as wait till it was charged to reset and then wait till it ran out of power and charged again, then reset! There is some timing involved with performing a correct Hard Reset.
