Palm515

I have a Palm 515 and link it with Microsoft 200XP. I have developed a problem when I go to HotSync it and I get
this error message that says "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another operation"
Can anyone tell me what to do to resolve this problem?

In the Hotsync application, make sure that Local box is selected and Cradle/Cable is selected below the hotsync logo.

Intellisync, Lotus Notes and Palm515, am I doomed?

There is nothing wrong with my pda except it won't sync. If I have to replace it just because of the software, I'll be really ticked.
Ever since IT upgraded (and I use the term loosely) us to Lotus Notes 8, I have been unable to sync my pda. I'm using:
XP Pro, Svc Pk 3
Hot Sync 4.1.0
Palm 4.1.4
Intellisync 5.5
Now what?
I'd be very grateful for any useful advice.

Couple of quick questions:
Were you syncing to a Domino Server previously?
If so, what type of application were you using to sync with? Groupwise?
Your IT dept may not have enabled the sync on the Domino server side when they did the upgrade. It may be by design because of proprietary information (speculation).
Its important to contact your IT department. If you synced to Lotus Domino server using groupwise, you may have been forced to only sync to that. If you have been syncing to Palm Desktop and now are not able to, then there will be some other troubleshooting steps to take to resolve the issue.

Plam M515 : Strange things Locking up

Hey : Got a good one.MY Palm515 is acting weird. Ithought it was the battery going bad. So I got a new Batt. Everything was fine. Until LOCK-UP the screen Freezes , then won't power off , then I do resets, works two or three minutes. Locks up again. Done resets soft and hard plugged unplugged power the batt. as well. I am lost as what to do.....
theb Fatal error.... All this is just weird.... Any ideas ??

hello,
fatal error is actually an indication that the handheld has some software conflict
after the hard reset, do you still get the fatal error?
if you don't then its a software problem
you have to rename the backup folder on the username folder located on c:/palm
then you can do a sync

Device dead, need to restore backup files from Palm 515 desktop software to Centro desktop software. Can it be done??

Ok, here's the story: My palm515 died about a year ago and since then I've been operating exclusively from my desktop software, until I recently bought a Palm Centro. Instructions said to hotsync to device, install new Centro Software, then hotsync back from device onto the desktop program. Problem is, I don't have a device to hotsync to because it's dead! I have backups of desktop, so I tried installing Centro Software per instructions. Centro Software said that it couldn't overwrite the old program, that I would manually have to uninstall it. Ok. But when I tried to go back into my old desktop software, it wouldn't even execute, like the Centro software had already begun to delete it. So I reinstalled the old 515 software thinking I wanted to at least do another triple-dog-check backup to two different locations, maybe even print stuff out in case it woudn't restore to the new software. Worst case scenario I have to type everything back in but at least I still have it. But now i can't figure out how to restore backup files to the 515 software! It keeps looking for .ada files but the backup files are .bak and it won't recognize them. How the heck do you restore a backup on this thing! OR, can I just install the new Centro software and restore the files from there.
Somebody PLEASE tell me how this can be done. My entire life, my business, all my clients, my appointments, my phone numbers, addresses, my records for my taxes, EVERYTHING is in there!

Assuming you are not running Vista, and that you have copied the User folder with the .dat and .bak files to a safe location outside the Palm folder, completely uninstall the Access Desktop that came with your Centro and download and install 4.1.4e from Palm's download page.
If you can get the m515 data in there by copying the User folder or Importing Data and sync the Centro you should be fine. Once it all appears where it should (Desktop and Centro) you can delete the User folder copy you copied for the process.

Palm m515

I have a Palm515 PDA. Just got a new PC. (HP Pavilion) Downloaded the Palm software and cannot sync because the pc does not have a comm port with pins in back. Is there another cable available to purchase that would utilize the USB only? Where do I find support for this old PDA?

You have the same issue with the Centro as the m515 - it cannot sync to Vista64 by the cable. The Centro would have to sync via either BlueTooth or Infra-Red!
Replacing a screen is a delicate task. Directfix.com has repair videos on its website that you can view to get an idea of what is entailed.
