Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • WD My Passport for Mac won't mount on my Mac Pro

My 1TB external hard drive is less than six months old and was working fine; now won't mount on my Mac. I don't remember disconnecting it without ejecting it but I do think I got a message about needing to eject before disconnecting. I checked in the forum for a possible solution and tried connecting it to a PC laptop; I could see it to eject it but it didn't show up anywhere else. I am not a computer expert! How can I access my files? I have a Mac Pro, Mac OS X ver. 10.6.8.

Historically, the problem has been that many USB-powered drives can't get enough power from a USB port after they begin to age. The Passport is bus-powered, getting all its power from a USB port. Not the best solution for a desktop computer.
To get such a drive going again, you need one of two workabouts:
    1) a powered USB hub (has its own power supply to make up the shortfall) that goes between the external drive and the computer.
    2) use a "Y" USB cable to get power from two USB ports simultaneously (such as http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/USB2AYMBPB/)
Also, WD uses an odd proprietary formatting scheme that is of itself a problem area. WD makes very good bare drives but the enclosures into which they put them to make an external drive are not very good and not particually Mac-Friendly. The formatting makes them harder to use.
Once you get  the files you need off the external,  consider erasing and reformating it to Mac Extended Journaled using Disk Utility. That often makes the drive more reliable without having to revert to USB hubs or special cables. It gets rid of the proprietary formatting that seem to contribute to the problems.
I have three external drives. All have WD bare drives inside but none are in WD encosures. By far the best enclosures for Mac external drives are those from OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
I have two of the desktop model shown and one of its portable version for my MacBook Pro. All three have given me superb service and zero problems.

    Hi Judy,
I find Optical Drives short lived, especially on Macs, but have you tried a CD Cleaner Disc?
    One other fix in 10.4.x...
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

The flash drive in my Sept 2012 mac book pro with retina display is not mounted, won't mount,  and can't be repaired in disk repair.  I need files created right before it failed last night that were not backed up.  Can they be salvaged before a new warrantied drive is put in at my request?   Also is this failure a common problem?

  • IPod won't mount on new Mac Pro

I just got a new Mac Pro that came with Snow Leopard. After getting everything setup I plugged in my iPod shuffle and it won't mount when plugged into either of the 2 front USB ports or any of the 3 back USB ports. When I plug it into the USB port on the keyboard it mounts and I can sync it through iTunes. When plugged into the front two ports the green charging light comes on, but it doesn't mount. The back 3 ports just cause the iPod to blink the green charging light quickly, it isn't a solid green.
I don't know if this is a Snow Leopard problem or the Mac Pro. The iPod was working perfectly with my G5 running Leopard.
    Any ideas?
    david.

I just don't get computers sometimes (even after being a software developer for over 25 years).
I had restarted the computer multiple times while installing other software but the iPod would not mount.
I took your suggestion to try another USB device and the only other device I had was a Canon scanner. I installed the drivers which required another restart. And the scanner worked and now the iPod works on all of the USB ports. It is mounted in iTunes and I can sync it on any port.
I checked the console logs files and didn't find anything unusual before it didn't work and nothing different now that the iPod mounts.
    David.

  • P2 AJ-SPD850 and P2 store won't mount to G5 Mac

I need some help please. First the facts:
    Mac G5 running 10.4.6
    QT 7.1.1
    FCP 5.04
    p2 AJ-SPD850 with firewire option
    p2 store
P2 700 camera with firewire option
Alright. Nothing will mount to the mac. I've put the drivers in from the CDs, from Shanes site and nothing. Nothing from the firewire or the USB. Is there something I'm not doing correctly.
The deck when I go into FCP and go to log and capture I see the deck and can run it. It also outputs put won't mount. So I can import the footage. Please help!

If your saying that you think that the deck should "mount" like a drive would... it doesn't work that way. i.e. if you can capture and record, you don't have a problem, do you?
Not sure though about all of this, just looked at the PDF of the deck's specs, and it says that it should mount like a drive would.... thru USB... maybe having both FW and USB connected defeats this? tried it?

  • 2TB Western Digital Drive won't mount in my Mac Pro. Please Help

Hello, everyone. I have a Mac Pro (MacPro1,1) with an internal drive that won't mount. I bought it used last year with 12GB RAM and 1TB hard drive and SuperDrive. I have since upgraded storage with an internal 2TB drive from Seagate (no problem), and a 500GB drive (no problem) from Western Digital, and installed a second optical drive from an old Power Mac G5. I had an additional newer 2TB drive from WD that I bought as an external. I took it out of its case and put it in a carrier and then in Bay 4 of my Mac Pro. It's the only drive I've had problems with, and I don't know why. The drive is immediately rejected by OS X upon startup. The options include "Eject" and "Initialize..." but I've clicked initialize every time. Disk Utility opens and I can see the drive but for whatever reason, it will not mount. There is one partition on it, and I think when I bought it, I formatted it with GUID and Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I haven't used it as a Time Machine drive, but I've backed up some files on it. I've restarted several times, and I'm not sure if I can hear it spinning inside my computer.
Should I pull it out and see if the partition is still on the disk? Wha

When DU launches or launch it yourself, that is the most useless "eject, ignore" and there is no real initialize command anyway anymore.... Click on raw drive WDxxxx and goto Partition tab, change the number of partitions to anything (another silly item) so you can go to the Advanced Options finally
WD MyBook drives are often not standard SATA drives with power and data connectors.
    Does it look like one?
It should be GUID but make sure, you can also tell from the status below.
Might even change it to something else, erase, then set it back to GUID.
Apply.  And only then does it matter what user partitions you create.
Jump through hoops for no reason.
If you have Windows or a PC, use WD Lifebuard. Great at testing any SATA drive.
Quick format with zeroes. Then Extended Test. Maybe even Full Format with zeroes to insure no bad sectors.
When and where, at what point in time, did you use it and write files to it?
By "carrier" I assume you mean the drive sled to go inside the Mac Pro.
Did you ever use it in an SATA external other than WD? some of their MyBooks are moled into and drive and case cannot be used separated.

  • Lacie Big5 won't mount on new Mac Pro

    Hi!
I recieved my Mac Pro the other day and also a new Lacie 10TB Big5 Thunderbolt2.
Today my plan was to start everything up and make a level 10 raid on the Lacie disc.
I turned everything on and the Lacie disc don't show up!
Tried to restart and reconnect everything but no luck.
Meanwhile I installed the Lacie raid software and after about 20 minutes the disc popped up all of a sudden. Great!
I opened the raid software and the disc unmounted and mounted itself a couple of times and then just dissapeared not to be seen again.
I restarted everything again a couple of times but the disc won't show up. I tried the disc utility to check if it was connected to the system but nothing there.
I tried connecting my rugged 160GB via a FW800-Thunderbolt adapter and that worked just fine.
Any suggestions on what might be wrong here???
Funny thing is that I opted for a Pegasus since my experience with Lacie has not been great through the years but the seller talked me into getting the Lacie, saying that their discs has improved in stability recent years.... Not convinced after this to say the least.... Why Oh why didn't I trust my instinct?!

    Hi,
It's not mounting because you need to install the Lacie Raid Management software. Once this is installed it will show up. See link.......

  • My external HD won't mount anymore on Mac OS, Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro, but appears as "media" on Disk Utility. What do I do?

I have this 1 TB Caviar Black drive from WD, I've installed it on an external HD case and have been using to store large files like HD movies and old archive things. Its file system is Mac OS Journaled.
Last year, all of a sudden, it gave me the following error while trying to plug it in: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
I was mad and left it for dead while looking for a way to fix it.
Then, again all of a sudden, it started working again, flawlessly and without any problems.
It worked well for at least 5 more months and then BAM... same error again!
I've tried DiskWarrior, TechTool Pro, Disk Utility and nothing... The disk won't show up on any of these apps, except on Disk Utility as a "Media" drive with 0 bytes used and unformatted partition.
    What do I do?
Could it be the external HD case?

It could be a problem with enclosure, but it also could be a problem with the drive itself or the drive is possibly corrupted. I would start by contacting WD tech support.
It may be possible to recover files from the drive using file recovery software:
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
Otherwise, unless the drive fixes itself like before you should try repartitioning and reformatting to determine if the drive has failed or is now working properly.

  • IPhones won't mount in iTunes - Mac restart needed

I'm having the problem long described in iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X - Apple Support.
Our iPhones stop being recognized by iTunes 12. I've followed the recommended fixes, and the only thing that works consistently is to reboot my Mac. Logging out doesn't help. Switching cables doesn't help and when it happens it affects all devices, not one particular device. It seems to happen after I get "iphone no longer connected' messages.
It's darned frustrating. It doesn't seem to be an extremely common issue, so I wonder if there's a hardware problem somewhere (Mac motherboard? USB hub?).
I also suspect bugs related to 'Trust  this Computer' but resetting Trust settings didn't help.
Anyone have ideas on how to debug?
Only thing I can think of is to try going without the hub for a while and switch to wifi sync and separate charger.
    Any other ideas?

Sounds like this thread is about the same problem:
Re: itunes 12 will not recognize iphone
Alleged cause is a bug - usbmuxd isn't closing its file descriptors. After 2-3 days errors pile up, typically with recurrent "Trust This Computer?" loops (which is what I see). In this case the "Trust this" is a misleading message related to usbmuxd locking sockets.
Killing usbmuxd process in activity monitor didn't fix the bug for me, I still had to reboot. I noticed though that I had a Tech Tools Pro daemon running that I didn't expect and I have uninstalled that. I'll try killing ubsmuxd next time this happens.
We very much need iTunes 12.0.2+

  • Yosemite won't install on i-Mac running Mavericks OS

I have repeatedly attempted to install Yosemite on my i-MAC (late 2013 model) but always get the following message 'This copy of the install OS X Yosemite application can't be verified it may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading' shortly after starting installation procedure.  I have doubled checked to make sue the day/time is set properly on the computer as this has been cited as the reason for similar message when updating OS to newer release(s).
I am going to assume this is attributable to the exceptionally long download times due to high traffic in the face of the Yosemite OS announcement.

    Hello rialebR,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post it looks like perhaps the installer file did not download properly.  I'd like you to please delete the current installer from your launchpad, and then download the installer again from the Mac App Store.
    Enter Launchpad.
Click and hold on an icon until you see all icons jiggle.
Click the "x" button in the upper-left of the Mac App Store app icon you want to delete.
Note: If you do not see an "x" button, either the app is not from the Mac App Store or you are logged in as a standard user.
Click "Delete" in the confirmation dialog to delete the app.
OS X Lion: How to remove Mac App Store apps that appear in Launchpad
    Mac App Store
    Open Mac App Store.
Click Purchases at the top of the window. Your purchased apps will appear.
    Click Install or Download.
    Download past purchases
    Take care,
    Alex H.

  • WD 3.0 external hard drive won't mount to Mac

I've had this Western Digital 3.0 external for some time and now it won't mount. I'm running Yosemite on my iMac.  Full disclosure, I did drop the drive a day before it stopped being recognized on the Mac but it wasn't a hard drop and the external drive was running just fine immediately after the drop.  I've seen some posts on here talking about WD external drives not working after updating to Mavericks but I didn't have that problem.
    I've zapped the PRAM.
I've made sure it wasn't the cable - I have another 3.0 drive that mounted just fine using that same cable.
This WD external drive is self powered so it's not a power source issue.
I've tried updating the Firmware but since the drive isn't mounting, that did no good.
The USB port on the Mac is fine - plugged in another drive and other devices in that same port and they are all recognized and working fine.
Just to make sure, I tried using another port.  No different result.
I tried the Option key on a restart to get to Disk Utilities but it's not seen there.
While the drive was working, I was pulling music from iTunes to my iPhone, just loading it up for a trip.  I keep all of my music on this one WD external hard drive.  I loaded up about 70 songs and intended to load dozens more.  While pulling some songs over, things froze up.  Wasn't able to do anything in iTunes or, as best I recall, anywhere else.  Things just froze.  I hard restarted the Mac - via the power button - and since, the external drive hasn't mounted.
About ready to try this possible solution as described in this discussion:
Your dead external hard drive is likely fine! Great hope for your 'faulty' external HD
Soooooooo . . . help would be appreciated!

    Hello
Ihad EXACTLY the same thing happen to my WD hard drive... MINUS the dropping.
Was organising my iTunes and iPhoto library, kept crashing, over and over again, then the last time, i restarted and it won't mount.
Except not only is the WD hard drive not mounting, after the crash and restart of itunes etc neither is my Time Machine hard drive which is connected via a LAN cable.
Exactly the same scenario, all the ports work, all the cables are fine etc.
Just went BOOM - not happy and stopped working.
All my photos and music are on this one drive.
Did you manage to fix your issue?

  • Upgraded to Mavericks. Now External HDD Enclosure Won't Mount. Is there a fix?

Upgraded to Mavericks.  Now I can't get my external HDD enclosure to mount.  A little about this enclosure, as it's not the usual settup .  I have four 3TB HDDs in a RAID5 settup.  The most unique part is that they are formatted as a Windows NT Filesystem (Tuxera NTFS).  Basically, when I set this up, I had to get a lot of info from a Windows-formatted HDD, but also be able to read/write afterwards. It's worked fine for ~ 1 year, but now that I've upgraded to Mavericks, nothing will mount.  I ran Disk Utility, where I see the HDDs (I've partitioned them into four drives of varying sizes), but they are greyed out.  I tried to mount them, but it says it won't and that I should run First Aid.  So I did...tried to "Repair Disk," but it just gets stuck on "Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required."  For over an hour it's been on that message.
So, does anybody out there have a fix?  I've read several similar posts about people having a hard time mounting and, overall, dealing with external HDDs after upgrading to Mavericks.  But nothing seemed to fit my exact circumstances.  Lastly, I should mention that I've used both Firewire and USB connections.  Both resulted in the same.
    Thanks.

I can't help with specifics for your issue, but some general thoughts:
The upgrade and the disk problem may be a coincidence. It would help you if you could verify that the drive still works fine on a windows machine. If you run a windows virtual machine or have a windows pc, or a friend does, verify full functioning that way. If it still won't mount on the mac, try to copy/backup it's data onto the windows machine (maybe another external drive connected to it. You could then scrub the disk in windows, leave it unpartitioned, unformatted. Connect it back to the mac and format it as HFS+ (Mac extended journalled) and transfer the data back to it by sharing the windows machine external drive and connecting the two machines with a network cable.
