Palying movies

Hi,
I have been converting dvds to play on itunes. Some are coverted using a dvd to ipod converter which work on my ipod. Some are just mp4 movies files which do not work on my ipod.
The ipod ones are very poor quality if watched on the pc or tv because the resolution is for the ipod screen. the other ones are fine.
is there anything I can do to convert a dvd to a format which provides good picture quality on my pc/tv and will convert to my ipod?
cheers

Anyone got any ideas??

  • How to prevent movies on Apple TV from disappearing?

I used to be able to see all of my movies on Apple TV via home sharing.  Lately, they keep disappearing.  The only remedy i have found is to go into iTunes and "get Info" one by one on each movie and then it reappears on Apple TV.  I don't change a thing.  The simple action of "get Info" is enough.  Anybody have a suggestion on a better way to resolve?  I don't think going throiugh several hundred movies one by one is a great solution.

BTW - i dont think this has anything to do with it but i will share that all the movies reside on asynology NAS.  The reason i doubt that the NAS has anything to do with the issue, i can paly any of them on iTunes with no problems.  And yes, all of them are labeled with the media type = 'Movie'
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

The idea of storing songs, movies and photographs on the ATV is to allow the end-user to turn off their computer and just use the device like a stereo/video component.
Ah! Of course... I wasn't even considering this b/c I'm one of these people who almost never has his computer off b/c I work from home and also do a lot of web surfing, etc. but obviously many many people have the computer shut off much more often than it is on.
So, alright. I see why the hard drive is there... it just seems so tempting for it to be able to be more of a stand alone device, more like another computer with iTunes on it rather than like a big iPod that sits under my TV. I guess I'll file that away in my tech wish list...

  • I cant seem to play online movies, it tells me to get media player or adobe flash player

I have a problem when I try to watch movies especially Anime online, it tells me to download adobe flash palyer and when I try to download free apps it tells me to give my credit card details.

    1. The iPad does not run Flash and most likely never will.
    2. See this for setting up your iTunes account without a credit card.

  • Quicktime movie don't play automatically????

It used to be that when you open a movie after a few seconds of downloading it will start palying automatically but it does not happen with iWeb. I loaded the same movie into my new web page that I made with iWeb and you have to click on the start in order for the movie to play.
Anybody know why this is happening?
I like the way it used to be.
    thanks

The Text Editor must be set to "plain" text before opening the file.
You must save the file with exactly the same name and avoid adding .txt to the file name.
If your page shows as text (lines of page code visible) I'll bet the file ends in .txt (something.html.txt). Remove the .txt from the file name and it should work.

  • When I import .mov file to Idvd I lose audio in certain clips

The .mov file I can paly everything fine thru quicktime but on import to Idvd I lose audio on some of the clips. Why? all the boxes are checked on the I movie.

Where did your .mov file orginate from? If it came from a camcorder or a digital still camera that takes MPEG movies, then you need two pieces of software to separate the audio from the .mov file. First, download the Free MPEG Streamclip (do a Google search), and once you download that, there will be a link to download the $20 Apple MPEG Streamclip plug-in for Quicktime. MPEG Streamclip is brilliant in that it will convert your MPEG .mov file back to a DV file for proper input into iMovie for editing while the QT plug-in will separate the audio. In it's original form, the audio to your MPEG movie is imbedded into the video. QT will play it fine, but iMovie needs to have it separated.

  • Strange problem with movies...

I downloaded a few movies from a friend and they dont completely play all the way through. They finish on the counter, but there is supposed to be more movie. The strange thing is, if I move the tick for the counter with my mouse almost to the end, it seems like it switches to another scene or movie and will paly from that point with more of the movie...its weird.
    What would cause this?

Sounds like a poorly assembled cut and paste job that now has broken timecode stamps.
MPEG Streamclip (free) may be able to repair the file.

  • I have downloaded a movie on I tunes and burned it to disc. But it does not play on my DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

As I  put above I bought a movie from I Tunes but when I burned it to a DVD it will not paly on a regular 2007 model DVD player. Can anyone advise if I am doing something wrong?

Movies purchased from the iTunes Store are normally protected by Apple's 'FairPlay' DRM. As such you cannot burn them in a useable form on to a disc.

  • Unable to play .mov files

I have my AppleTV looking at my Mac's iTunes to play files found in Movies.
There are a couple that do not appear in the list of movies displayed. I noticed that they are .mov files.
One is a small sized movie - 320x240 Quicktime movie file.
The other is one I was very interested in. Created with Canon 5D Mark II it created a .mov file 1920x1080 H.264 Quicktime movie file.
I noticed its seems that all the movies that are listed are mpeg-4.
    What't the issue?
    Thanks.

    See specs;
    http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html
mov files are containers for video and can contain variously encoded formats.
You can play .mov files if they use the right codecs, but AppleTv cannot paly everything and in addition even with the correct codec, the files must be encoded within specific parameters to work.
You'll see from the specs that AppleTV cannot playback more than 720p resolution at 24fps officially - your 5DII files exceed those specs - they would need to be converted to playback.
The 'small Quicktime movie' probably uses an incompatible codec/bitrate - what is it?

  • How to make a play all menu and a play single movies menu

Hi, I'm a noob with Encore and trying to make a dvd menu, but can't seem to get it right.
I have in total 6 movieclips which I would like to make en menu for. I have made a menu, where there are a play all button and a kind of chapter button.
I have linked alle movies as end action to each other, expect the last of cause - paly all menu done - check
Then in the "chaptersmenu" I took the first clip and changed the override setting to the "chaptersmenu", but when I do that the link between clip 2 and 3 becomes dashed instead of solid, and when I preview it stops after the second clip on play all.
What am I doing wrong and how should I do it, to accomplis what I like?

Just to recap, so I understand it correct.
I link each movie specific button to the specific movie, with action of "last menu" and no override. Then for the play all, I create en playlist containing all movies, and the play all button is then linked to that playlist.
I'll try that when I get home. After I made the question yesterday, I came to think, if I could use Premiere to help me out. So I made a sequence, with all movies in, and created some chapter marks, and that I could get to Work in Encore. So now the computer is just sweating to create the dvd structure, so I can test it.
I don't know which is the correct way to do it, or if it just a matter of taste, but it seems that Premiere sequence requires a lot more space on the disk then with separate movies. But I have dual layer disks, so guess that doesn't make any difference.

  • Movies in .AVI format and is not recognized. Help!

I have movies in .AVI format but iphoto and Quicktime won't recognize them. How do I convert the movie clips? and to what format? I tried MPEG Streamclip and it converted it to .mov clips but it only converted the audio not the video. How can i get both?  I tried to "save as" to other formats and that didn't work either. Please help!
    Thanks!

You can try a free program call Handbrake to convert the videos. It works great. I've been using it for years. If you only want to be able to paly these videos, try the VLC Player from Video LAN. It'll play everything.
My favorite video convetor at the moment is Wondershare but it is not free.

  • How to download movies from internet

I keep getting file unsupported when I try to download a movie to my mac,I have quicktime palyer 7 and Divx and I still cant figure it out,can anybody give me a hand?

    You are most welcome

  • Downloaded a Movie, playing back but no sound ?

I down loaded a movie from Itunes, I started the paly back but I have no sound ?

    Applications/Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup
Make sure the Format is either 44100Hz or 48000Hz
If it ISN'T one of those two, that's what usually kills audio, on MP4 and MOV files especially.

  • Encore doesn't like .MOVs?..

I export uncompressed .MOV file at 24 fps, progressive, 720x480 .9 pixel aspect from AE CS3. When I import this file as a timeline into En CS3, the program adds interlacing to the video and, after palying w/ all possible transcoding settings, I can't find a way to get rid of this. I even tried using the Dynamic Link to directly import from AE composition - same result. And it seems to be the case with ANY quicktime I bring in - Encore adds interlacing to them all.
When I watch this video on TV, and pause, I see what I assume is the result of this unneccessary interlacing - when people move fast, they have double edges that are not present in original MOV. It's like there is extra motion blur added to the footage.
Would anyone have an idea how to make a 24 fps quicktime video work in Encore? Or if it's an En bug, which alternative format to export in from AE.
    Thanks!!!

    Hi pj,
I'm not a Mac guy, so I don't know exactly where or how Compressor fits
into the Apple equation.  It may be part of Final Cut, or some other
software package, or it may indeed be a stand-alone app.
As for third party Mac encoding solutions, I know that Sorenson Squeeze
is a good one.  But it's expensive.  I don't know of any free or
    inexpensive mpeg2 encoders for Mac.

  • Three movies I bought from iTunes this morning do not show up on the 1st Gen AppleTV.

I understand some file formats are not compatible with AppleTV (1st gen) but these films were purchased directly from iTunes.  One would assume they are formatted properly to work on Apple equipment, yes?  Previously purchased movies show up on the AppleTV just fine, so I'm not sure what's going with these three.  They were from the $4.99 Sci Fi collection:  Enemy Mine, Dune and Terminator 2.  Oldies but goodies.  The iMac, where the iTunes Library lives is used to stream the content to the AppleTV, and everything that is in my Library appears to be available for streaming, except these three films.  Any advice?

I have now restored Factory Settings on the Apple TV. Looked promising until iTunes hangs everytime I tried to enter the podcast page of the sync options. And I get errors that my newest movies, created in Final Cut Pro X with the Share with 720p Apple Devices export settings are not compatible with Apple TV.
    Unbelievable.

I have an e mail address (not main family pack e mail address) and I would like to move it to another family pack. Is this possible and if so how?

Caroline12, Welcome to the discussion area!
I believe that your question is about a Mobile Me family pack account. If that is true, I believe that the answer is no.
But your probably should post your question in the Apple.com > Support > Discussions > MobileMe discussion area.
