PAM configuration file (/etc/pam.conf)

Need your expertise advice.
If the settings for kerberos v5 authentication are disabled, is it correct to say that it is not authenticating using Windows 2000.

  • Common PAM configuration files

    Hello,
    I need to configure a few Arch machines in order to allow LDAP authentication.
    Although two years ago it was proposed to redesign Arch PAM configuration files in order to use a few common modules, ike most other distros do, (FS#17188) nothing has been done yet, so configuring PAM to my purpose looks like being a pain (what the heck are gdm{,-autologin,-fingerprint,-password,-smartcard,-welcome}, anyway!?).
    Did anybody work on this?

    Hi
    Thanks for your quick responce.
    What we are trying to do is identify all users of SAP on an estate by scanning the workstations for womankind of common file that might be stored\cached on the clients.  If possible a file stored within the users profile but if outside of that it doesn't matter.  Either that or a registry entry or something.
    Many thanks

    I assume that tomegun meant using the new one rather than booting with the old one. (The latter might also be fine - I've no idea.)
    I'm a bit confused about the role which /etc/pam.d/passwd is playing now. Should options I've added here be duplicated for the password lines in e.g. system-auth? Currently, I have this in passwd:
    password required pam_unix.so sha512 shadow nullok rounds=65536
    but since system-auth etc. seems to have its own password lines, I'm wondering if having this in passwd is now either pointless or at least insufficient.
    The default set up, if I understand it correctly, is not actually that different from the old one. The diff above is missing the additions:
    > auth include system-local-login
    > account include system-local-login
    > session include system-local-login
    I think this is invoking the stuff in /etc/pam.d/system-local-login which in turn calls system-login and system-auth, for example. If you compare the cumulative effect, I believe there are only minor differences which don't impact security e.g. to do with announcing the last login time or displaying message of the day.
    EDIT: So adding that stuff all back into login just duplicates stuff with maybe some very minor differences such as requiring message of the day etc.

    Hi ! do you mean the file /etc/resolv.conf ? This file should be by default in the /etc/ diretory and contains the dns-name resolutions. http://linux.die.net/man/5/resolv.conf http://www.tldp.org/LDP/nag/node84.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resolv.conf

  • Set systemwide variable with /etc/launchd.conf does not work in 10.10

    Hi,
    before i upgraded my system, i set in file /etc/launchd.conf some variables. I need this for the Shell, Eclipse and some other tools.
    user@osx10-10:~$ cat /etc/launchd.conf
    setenv M2_HOME /opt/maven
    setenv MAVEN_OPTS "-Xmx2048m -Dmaven.surefire.debug=-Xmx2048m"
    user@osx10-10:~$
    With Mavericks there was no problem, since Yosemite no Variables are set.
    Also when i try to set it manually with launchctl setting xxxxx xxxx, no variable is set.
    Does anyone has a workaround for me?
    Regards
    Joerg

    Alex It should work . by the way your PATH variable should be placed in /etc/paths like this :
    /usr/bin
    /bin
    /usr/sbin
    /sbin
    /usr/local/bin
    /Users/alex/Dev/apache-ant-1.9.2/bin
    Note after each line there is a return key
    As for environment variables open your ~/.bash_profile and place the.
    export ANT_HOME = /Users/alex/Dev/apache-ant-1.9.2
    launchctl setenv ANT_HOME $ANT_HOME
    export ANT_OPTS = -Xmx512M
    launchctl setenv ANT_OPTS $ANT_OPTS
    make sure you save and restart all applications that need to read environment variables. I faced the same problem with intelliJ accessing M2_HOME
    As a side note : consulting the man pages of launchctl(1)
    DEPRECATED AND REMOVED FUNCTIONALITY
         launchctl no longer has an interactive mode, nor does it accept commands from stdin. The
         /etc/launchd.conf file is no longer consulted for subcommands to run during early boot time; this func-
         tionality was removed for security considerations. While it was documented that $HOME/.launchd.conf
         would be consulted prior to setting up a user's session, this functionality was never implemented.
         launchd no longer uses Unix domain sockets for communication, so the LAUNCHD_SOCKET environment vari-
         able is no longer relevant and is not set.
         launchd no longer loads configuration files from the network

  • List of configuration files copied to non-global zone

    I understand that when a non-global zone is installed, the zone installation process uses "pristine" copies of quite a few configurable files (/etc/profile, /etc/syslog.conf, etc..) instead of the files which are configured in the global zone. Does anyone know exactly which configuration files are copied from their "pristine" versions instead of the files actually used by the global zone? Is there a list of all of these files somewhere? Where are the "pristine" versions kept in the global zone?
    Thank you.

    Where all information concerning specific packages is being kept. Namely /var/sadm/pkg.

  • Best Practive (Regarding Configuration Files)

    I know that where you put configuration files is mostly an opinion, and we all could have different opinions.
    However I came to a point where I have a preference. I prefer puting all my configuration files inside the conf folder (including the web.xml, struts.xml, etc) and then only using the Ant Script (build.xml) would I move this files where I want. For example the web.xml would be moved to the WEB-INF folder.
    The advantege of this would be that I would have all of the configurations for my application localized in one placed, and not scatered everywhere.
    The drawback is that my build.xml file will contain some deployment information, and more lines naturally. However the firsy one should not be a problem since at the end of the day the build.xml is there to develop a build (deployable version) of your application.
    However this could be one of my most stupid post, just wanted some opinion on this.
    thanks and regards,
    sim085

    I think that solutions go great for people that know
    exactly what they are doing. For example, an expert
    can easily decide to move something from one place to
    another since he knows what advantege would that give
    him, and what repercussions.
    IMO, a good book should also describe options (and hence opportunities and pitfalls) for a source and/or deployment structure. Most probably just glance over the topic, but visiting vendor sites (say, Struts or Tapestry or Weblogic) will also give you additional ideas and constraints.
    But for myself (which still consider myself as
    experimenting) this is a little harder, since I still
    did not master the basics. At the begining I adopted
    a folder structure directly from a book I read. Only
    now I am starting to think of what could I change,
    and as you can see still have to ask some questions
    here :$ :)
    We've all been there. In fact, I'm struggling just to keep current with the technology stack I'm familiar with! :^)
    IMO standards help juniors understand better, altough
    you are right. I would not want something like
    VS.net where the editing tool take care where to put
    (nearly) everything.
    Totally agreed. But as I think you yourself have hinted at, it's a tough balance to strike.
    regards,
    sim085- Saish

  • O2cb_ctl : unable to load cluster configuration file while  RAC setup.

    OCFS2: unable to load cluster configuration file
    Hi,
    I installed OCFS2 successfully.
    I successfully install 3 RPMs.
    I am getting error while running ocfs2console to do cluster configuration.
    I tried to run this manully using "o2cb_ctl -C -n NODENAME -t node -a number=NODENUM -a ip_address=IPADDR -a ip_port=IPPORT -a cluster=CLUSTERNAME "
    this commnd. but getting error as
    "o2cb_ctl: Unable to access cluster service while creating node Could not add node "
    Then I edited this file manually and copied to another nodes using SCP. Then tried to use o2cg_ctl utility as
    # /etc/init.d/o2cb offline ocfs2
    # /etc/init.d/o2cb unload
    # /etc/init.d/o2cb configure
    Configuring the O2CB driver.
    Next, I configure /etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf:
    cluster:
    node_count = 2
    name = oracle
    node:
    ip_port = 7777
    ip_address = 140.187.222.222
    number = 1
    name = ocvmrh2053
    cluster = oracle
    node:
    ip_port = 7777
    ip_address = 140.187.222.222
    number = 2
    name = ocvmrh2051
    cluster = oracle
    Next, I try to load ocfs2 modules by command: o2cb load - everything messages is OK
    And I try switch ocfs2 cluster to online (by o2cb online oracle), write this error message:
    Starting cluster oracle: Failed
    o2cb_ctl: Unable to load cluster configuration file "/etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf"
    Stopping cluster oracle: Failed
    o2cb_ctl: Unable to load cluster configuration file "/etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf"
    I think both errors i get are due to same issue. Please kindly reply if anyone having idea.
    Thanks.
    Please anyone can help me to resolve this.

  • Empty /etc/rc.conf? I got lost.

    Hello,
    I'm following the Beginners Guide provided in the wiki, the steps have been carefully written until the final step: the configuration. It seems that many things changed since that guide was written.
    The file /etc/rc.conf is empty. Should I leave it that way? The guide is saying that many lines there need to be edited by me, but nothing is there. Is it a matter of adding them myself?
    I've uncommented languages I need (ar and en), anything yet to be configured?
    Regards,
    Laser

    You should try again, I guess.
    There has been some bug report about this recently, maybe you should report there:
    http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8898
    When I encountered this problem I hadn't select all needed packages the first time... since I wanted to do two separated installs of pacman and the filesystem package.... this didn't work however, after I did a new install it went fine again... not sure what it is exactly but hopefully next time you try it just works (use some magic ), else you should really report your problems and configuration to above bugtask.

    Why it is /etc/ocfs.conf as this is not the feature of OCFS2?

  • Setting global umask via NSUmask or /etc/launchd.conf and /etc/launchd-user.conf broken?

    The procedure to change the default global umask from 0022 to 0002, so that most files created by one user on a machine will be read-write by other users in the same group, seems to have been broken or to have been changed in OS X Lion from OS X Snow Leopard.  What worked as far back as OS X 10.4 and was officially documented was done from Terminal: "defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences NSUmask 2" (with a sudo, if not logged in as 'root').
    Another way documented in various places and which I actually used through OS X 10.6 was also done via Terminal. Two files were created: /etc/launchd.conf (for system-wide global umask) or /etc/launchd-user.conf (for user-specific global umask).  The contents of each were simply the single umask command, "umask 002" or ("umask u=rwx,g=rwx,o=rx", I can't remember which variant I used - they're functionally the same, though).
    No matter which method I use, the 2nd or the 1st, the global umask no longer changes.
    Does anyone know whether this has been deliberately hobbled under OS X Lion, requiring purchase of OS X Lion Server?  Is this an OS X Lion bug?  Or, am I looking at something wrong?

    See this support article, which was written for OS X Server, but seems applicable to  Mac OS X client versions as well:
    Mac OS X Server v10.5, 10.6: Setting a custom umask
    The excerpt below describes the use of /etc/launchd-user.conf, and strongly cautions against using /etc/launchd.conf.

    In Mac OS X v10.5.3 and later, you can create the file /etc/launchd-user.conf with the contents "umask nnn". Do not include the quotation marks and replace nnn with the desired umask value, such as 027 or 002.
    This will set the user's umask for all applications they launch, such as Finder, TextEdit, or Final Cut Pro, and control the permissions set on new files created by any of these applications.
    Umask for system processes
    In Mac OS X v10.4 and later, create the file /etc/launchd.conf with the contents "umask nnn". Do not include the quotation marks and replace nnn with the desired umask value, such as 027 or 002.
    This will set the umask for all processes. Changing this value is strongly discouraged because it changes the permissions on files used by the system software. If the permissions are too restrictive, dependent software may not work. If the permissions are too open, they may introduce security issues.

  • Unable to Initialize Volume Manager from a Configuration File

    I'd like to reattach a D1000 to a rebuilt system. The array contains a raid 5 partition that was built with Solaris Volume Manager (Solaris 9). Since it is the same system all controller/target/slice ids have not changed. I was able to restore the Volume Manager configuration files (/etc/lvm) from a tape backup and followed the instructions provided in the Solaris Volume Manager Administration Guide: How to Initialize Solaris Volume Manager from a Configuration File <http://docs.sun.com/db/doc/816-4519/6manoju60?a=view>.
    All of the state database replicas for this partition are contained on the disks within the array so I began by creating new database replicas on a local disk.
    I then copied the /etc/md.cf file to /etc/md.tab
    # more /etc/lvm/md.tab
    # metadevice configuration file
    # do not hand edit
    d0 -r c1t10d0s0 c1t11d0s0 c1t12d0s0 c1t8d0s0 c1t9d0s0 c2t10d0s0 c2t11d0s0 c2t12d0s0 c2t8d0s0 c2t9d0s0 -k -i 32b -h hsp000
    hsp000 c1t13d0s0 c2t13d0s0
    I then tested the syntax of the md.tab file (this output is actually from my secomd attempt).
    # /sbin/metainit -n -a
    d0: RAID is setup
    metainit: <hostname>: /etc/lvm/md.tab line 4: hsp000: hotspare pool is already setup
    Not seeing any problems I then attempted to recreate the d0 volume, but it fails with the error below:
    # /sbin/metainit -a
    metainit: <hostname>: /etc/lvm/md.tab line 3: d0: devices were not RAIDed previously or are specified in the wrong order
    metainit: <hostname>: /etc/lvm/md.tab line 4: hsp000: hotspare pool is already setup
    Any suggestions on how to reinitialize this volume would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Doug

    You have UserPrincipalName column heading in the csv file so this should be your cmdlet.
    import-csv C:\temp\sharedMailboxCreationTest.csv | ForEach-Object {New-Mailbox -shared  -Name $_.Name  -Alias $_.Alias  -OrganizationalUnit $_.OrganizationalUnit -UserPrincipalName $_.UserPrincipalName -Database $_.Database}
