Pan & scan with slideshow title slide

I've been trying to use the Ken Burns effect with a title slide in a slideshow - but can't get it to work.
Is this possible please - without having to create a video workaround in FCP / iMovie?
Thanks
Julian

Interesting: I just tried it, and Aperture will not let me do it. The only work around I can think of is to trick Aperture into thinking a text slide is a picture slide. You could create this faux text slide using the book tool, but it would be way easier to create it in another app that will save to a picture file format and then import it. If you have Powerpoint or Keynote ($20USD on App store), it will be super easy. You could also do it with Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Pixelmator ($30USD on App store), Gimp (free) or any number of apps.

Restore from your back up is the most obvious way forward.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • Settings for 16:9 & Pan Scan

    hi all,
I need some clarification on some DVDSP settings. I am using DVDSP4, and I have widescreen footage saved from FCP, but the final output of DVD will be viewed like most, on a mixture of widescreen TV's and standard 4:3.
I've stumbled by until now not knowing for sure what the settings should be exactly, and i've been pretty confused by - Playback Output Settings (under Simulator menu) and the Settings under 'General' for the menus.
Have found that sometimes if i've set it up as widescreen, when it has been played on a DVD player the TV has not 'smart-scaled' it
At present I have mine set as thus:
    GENERAL (TAB)
SD DVD Menus Tracks and Slideshows : 16:9 Pan-Scan
    SIMULATOR (TAB)
    Display Mode : 4:3 Pan-Scan
    ENCODING (TAB)
    Aspect Ratio : 16:9
I'd appreciate any advice you could pass on this.
    thanks

If you have 16:9 material set it for Letterbox do not use Pan & Scan or Pan & Scan with Letterbox.
On 16:9 tvs it will play back 16:9, on 4:3 televisons it will playback letterbox, though people can always change settings on TVs and DVD Players and mess things up.

DURIM - Okay.  I would expect the "Cache Warning" message because your default directories would not be the same as the ones in the settings file I generated.
If you go back to the "7.0" directory and open the "Logs" folder, can you copy the "Audition Log.txt" file and send it as an attachment to [email protected]?  We'll take a look in that logfile and see if it gives us more information about why this is failing now.
Also, do you have any other Adobe applications installed on this machine, such as Premiere Pro?  If so, do they launch as expected or fail as well?
I do have the trial Pro version of Adobe reader, but I have not activated it, because I fear the same thing will happen did it. I cannot afford to activate the subscription for that product and take the chance of it not working either. I depend on those two programs religiously. Here is the files that you requested. • MAking Title slides for a slideshow

How do I create title slides with text to place in between elements of my slideshow? I visited several islands recently and I want a title slide on which I can type the name of the particular island. I can't find out how to do it in I photo and I can figure out how to do it in IDVD 08. What gives?

You can use a word processing document to create the slide you want and then save as a PDF to iPhoto. Applications such as Pages or Keynote (if you have them) can also be used to create slides. They also can be saved in a format which can be imported into iPhoto.

  • Speedgrade crops footage on render output with Pan&scan

I have a simple timeline with one DPX-Sequence and a Pan&Scan track on it.
    No gradings, no dissolves.
some images in the sequnece have a lower resolution, so I scale them up to full HD with the Pan&Scan-Track. Everything shows up right in the viewport, but when I render the sequence, the scaled parts of the timeline come out being cropped to their original size with a black border around them.
It also happens when I try to assemble a sequence with quictimes and sequences of different resolutions.
I installe Update 6.0.4 but the error is still there.
Is there at least a workaround?

  • Slideshow with the active slide in the center at full opacity

    Hello all,
I'm trying to create a slideshow with the active slide in the center at full opacity while the two photos on the sides aren't at full opacity (see link below).  Any idea if this can be done in Muse?

    Thank you.

Have you sorted the photos manually? Then the instant slideshow will not work correctly. Create a regular slideshow.   File >  New Slideshow

  • Pan-Scan versus Letterbox

I am a bit confused about the use of Pan-Scan vs. Letterbox for 16:9 images to be displayed on either a widescreen (16:9) or a standard (4:3) TV set. Pan-Scan is confusing: I would have assumed that using Pan-Scan as the display mode for 16:9 images (this is slideshow I am talking about) would display the center of the image and cut off the sides on a standard 4:3 TV screen, and display normally on a 16:9 widescreen TV. Not so. I set the display mode to Pan-Scan and burned a DVD: on a stadard 4:3 TV both the sides and the top and bottom of the image was cut off. I thought only the sides would be cut. But worse, on a 16:9 widescreen TV, THE SAME THING HAPPENS! The image is cut off at the sides and top and bottom - it appears to be enlarged (like zooming in) somehow, and so the image resolution is horrible: grainy, etc. When letterbox is used, the widescreen image is good, even the title safe border is not even close to the edge, and the image displays quite well on a 4:3 standard TV with the black bars top and bottom. So my question is, when could a Pan-Scan be used? Is it only for a computer monitor? Would I experience the same thing with video? And what does the choice: "Pan-Scan & Letterbox" (the third choice) offer? very confusing.
    Barry

    BArry:
This information is taken from DVDSP User Manual:
    =======================================
Using Pan-Scan to Display 16:9 Video
The pan-scan method of displaying 16:9 video on a 4:3 monitor was developed as a compromise between letterbox, which displays all the video content but with black areas at the top and bottom, and the only other alternative: filling the entire 4:3 screen, but cropping some of the content. With pan-scan, you can choose which bits of the 16:9 content to crop, ensuring the action is not lost by displaying the center of the screen only. The pan-scan method can result in sudden jumps from one side of the screen to the other (for example, to follow a conversation’s dialogue), which may make your video look as if edits have been made.
To make pan-scan work, you must have a pan-scan vector, a frame-based value that controls which part of the content to use. Someone watching the video creates the vector, deciding which parts should be seen. This vector must be available when the video is MPEG-encoded. The MPEG encoder included with DVD Studio Pro does not support pan-scan vector information. However, if the information is already part of an MPEG-encoded video stream, created with an encoder that supports the vector information, DVD Studio Pro passes this information along.
Virtually all movies shown on TV have been through the pan-scan process; however, pan-scan vectors are rarely used for movies released on DVD. Instead, a version of the movie is made using the 4:3 pan-scanned source, and is not intended to be played as a 16:9 video on 16:9 monitors. The other side of the disc often contains the true 16:9 version, set to display as letterboxed video on 4:3 monitors.
Important: Do not use pan-scan if your video does not actually support it. If you do, only the center part of the frame will appear.

    Hope it helps!

  • Three issues with slideshows...

Issue 1: I can select 1 song to play as the music for a slideshow or 1 playlist, but I cannot select (like shift-click in normal applications) multiple songs or playlists. Why is this???
Issue 2: I would like to chain together multiple slide shows into 1 - i.e., allow one component of a slide show to be another slide show. This would make stringing together slide shows with different characteristics easier.
Issue 3: I would like to be able to put title slides into slide shows without having to build them in PowerPoint or Keynote and then saving as JPEG and importing into iPhoto. Just something simple would be fine, but I can imagine a "Word-art" like capability with a photo (transparency would be nice) in the background.
Anybody else see the need for these?

1 - yes you can only select one song or one playlist. If you need multiple songs then put them in one playlist. If you need the songs in two or more playlists in a single slideshow then create a new playlist from those other playlists. It's just the nature of the beast.
2 - You can either put all of the photos from the multiple slideshows into a new slideshow or export those slideshows to quicktime and join them together with iMovie or QT Pro. I think QT Pro would be better as it would avoid re-encoding into a new file as iMovie would do.
3 - Create the title in iMovie and the do a Save Clip, select jpg as the format, and import that new file into iPhoto.

  • Aperture blank and title slides

  • Title Slides

How can I add title slides between slides in a slide show? I was on cruise recently and have selected pics for slide show and now want to add title slides at the beginning of each section of the slide show so people know where they were taken

You need to create them with another app. - a word processor, for instance. Then use the Print to pdf command to save them as pdfs. Import those to iPhoto and it will convert them to jpegs.
Other Slideshow apps have this feature built-in:
    iMovie, on every Mac sold
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter $29
    PhotoToMovie $49.95
    PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • If I have a box with a title strip at the bottom, how do I make the strip pop up on mouse over

So I am building a website for my company and Ive hit a brick wall on something that I know I could make work correct but I dont have the time and dont want to contiue to waste time experimenting. I have been using adobe flash and I know how to use it but not on this level I guess, I have got it to work in some cases but seems like it would be the worst to edit if needed.
Im trying to make a box (button) that has a visible title strip at the bottom of it. When you mouse over the title slides up and it shows information, which you can click to go to a link or mouse out and it will go back down. Ive been trying everything and something always seems to not go just right. I need it to be fluid, for I will be doing it to 6 boxes in a row on the landing page of the site. Please let me know if anyone knows what Im talking about or can help in any way possible! There is an example on the sony site near the bottom with 4 boxes.   http://www.sony.com/index.php
Also, If anyone were to know the answer to the Q above, What would be the best template to start in for this?
    Thanks, T

Consider something like a JavaScript library for your tabs. You can do it yourself with standard jQuery effects easily (http://learn.jquery.com/effects/intro-to-effects/) or even use something premade as a wrapper if you really choose like jQuery UI (http://jqueryui.com/toggle/). Simple things like revealing content via a tab should be done in a modern way.
The content of the tabs can be SWFs if you really have some serious animations/etc they can exist inside there.

If this is an impotant issue to you, I suggest that you open a case with

This is a rather important issue, I have seen another post with a similar problem.
While not being a show-stopper it certainly raises concerns.
The application works ok until the application exits (in both development and
    executable form)
Apparently this did not happen with Tux 7.1
It does with 8, I do not have 7.1 so I have no workaround.

  • HELP with photo titles

I just imported a bunch of photos, and they all have alphanumeric titles straight from the camera (For example, DSCN0789.JPG). I decided to change all the titles to somewhat describe the photo. I did this in the information pane.
All the titles are changed with no problem in iPhoto, but when I go to my iPhoto library in the finder, all the photos still have the DSCNxxxx.JPG title. Aren't the titles supposed to update in the finder/iPhoto library folder when you make a change in the iPhoto application?
Also, when I changed the title, I deleted .JPG. Is that ok?
    Thanks for the help!!

    xixi
But why are you rooting through the iPhoto Library Folder trying to figure out the numbers when there are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
In the case of uploading, I suggest the File -> Export option. This allows you to use the title as a filename, and also to make other choices - including resize the pics. iPhoto produces a copy to the desktop, and then upload that. Afterwards, trash the copy on the desktop.
    No double work, easy peasy.
