Pan two separate .mp3 files in Garageband

I have two separate .mp3s one with vocals and one instrumental. I want to merge these into one w/vocals panned L and instrumental R. I used the track pan knob to do this. But when I send to iTunes both tracks play in both speakers rather than one in each. How do I get them to record in separate speakers?

I'm new; I'm trying to simulate stereo on a mono track by simply duplicating it (which they don't make easy) and then pan one "L" and one "R". That makes sense, right? However, they both play back fine on center or left position (but only out of left speaker) and when I pan right on either copy of the track, the volume just goes down and down until it's completely gone when all the way over at "R". How else can I finagle this to make it work?

Can you have two separate iTunes files on one computer?

I gave my daughters each an old iPOD. One is 20 GB and the other is 60 GB. I take an iBOOK laptop with me when I visit so I can update them. In the past, they shared the 20 GB iPOD only. Now I have a problem as one iPOD can store a lot more than the other. Is there any way to have two separate iTUNES files on one iBOOK computer, one with the songs for the 20 GB iPOD, and the other for the 60 GB iPOD?

The problem with making separate accounts is that this is a laptop, so likely not a huge hard drive, and if the three iTunes libraries need to have a lot of the same music (because everyone or two or three like some of the same stuff) you end up with double or triplicate copies of the music on the hard drive eating up drive space. Since they don't use his laptop normally, creating more accounts (with all the associated files and drive space usage each account would eat up) it probably isn't worth it.
Instead, the best approach is like Chris said, to make playlists for the girls in the main library and then set up the various iPod to either sync everything (if big enough) or sync only specific playlists (if not big enough).
Alternatively, they can set their iPods to manual syncing and then when Dad is visiting they can hook up their iPods and "shop" the library and drag in whatever they want to add to the iPods and delete what they no longer want.

How to merge two separate Muse files into one file?

Have 220 pages built for a website, client wants to add another 180 pages. The Muse file is already slow to load and cumbersome to work with at 220 pages, it's going to be much worse at 400 pages. Is there a way to create two separate Muse files and then merge them prior to publish (or at publish, or post-publish). The only other solution I have is to build the second batch of pages in a separate file, then copy them into the main file one by one. Is there a batch copy/paste? Is there a merge?

It's not possible to merge muse files as such. The pages have to either be created in the same file or they must be copied over individually later on from the other file to this file.

How to compare two separate PDF files with certain fields identical?

Does anyone know of a way that I could compare two separate PDF files containing the same information in certain locations? Please keep in mind that they contain different information as well. I know that it could be done with importing it to excel and running VBA to format the information to be similar and use formulas to validate information is correct, but this needs to be done very quickly with multiple files through out the day. One way to explain what type of PDF file this is, is think of excel: Column A and J contain the same information but B:I contain different information. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

This unfortunately was never answered but we found a different solution rather than comparing PDF's.

Combining two separate song files

I'm sure there's a way to combine (merge?) two separate song files into one, but I can't seem to figure it out. When I try to copy & paste multiple audio tracks, pieces get lost. Instrument parameters change, etc. Same with dragging from one Arrange window to another. What's the key? I have created the first part of a song in one file, and the second part in another, and I simply want to combine (really just connect) the two. How?

if both files are part of the same song, make each the whole song length,with all tempos, key changes, etc, identical in both.
this will make it easier to drag and drop or cut and paste as logic has already made the room for the tranfer.
you could save as OMF then import, but i haven't dealt with this.

Why can't I import two particular MP3 files into iTunes?

I went into the Importing menu of my iTunes preferences and verified that it is using the MP3 encoder. But when I drag and drop the mp3 file from my desktop to iTunes it will NOT import it! Ugh! Any suggestions?

It plays fine in QuickTime. When I do a "get info" it shows MP3 Audio File as the "Kind".
Format: MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 11.025 kHz
Data Rate: 128.27 kbits/sec
At first glance those look normal values for an mp3 file. The sample rate of 11.025 kHz is unusually low for music though (a common value is 44.100).
iTunes is capable of converting a file into mp3 with sample rates between 8.000 and 48.000 kHz, so it should? recognize the file as valid and add it to the library.
Although 'MP3' is a standard, there are many ways to create one. It seems that sometimes it results in files that iTunes doesn't like, especially VBR MP3's. I personally have not encountered such "trouble mp3's" yet.
If you still can't add your mp3 to iTunes, try to export it in QuickTime (use Sound to AIFF) and then add it to iTunes.
Alternatively convert it using Max. It's not an easy to use application at first look, but once you are familiar with it, you'll probably appreciate it as a powerful app. for importing CDs and converting files.

Single JVM, two nodes, separate override files configuration?

This question might have surfaced before in the forums but even after going through several posts I couldn't get a decent understanding on how this works. Here is my question...
I wanna bring up two coherence nodes in a single JVM, both independent and unrelated to each other. These two nodes have different cache-config xml files, and also override files. My question is how do I configure these nodes such that they work with two separate override files. I don't wanna use -Dtangosol.coherence.override because my doing this, this system property applies to both the nodes so I can't keep the override xml files separate.
So, what is best way to accomplish this such a way that the nodes don't collide with each other by using a common override files?

Both the solution I posted and Jon's solution rely on a ClassLoader to isolate the Coherence nodes within the JVM. We do not use this in Production but we do use it as part of our build process and run over 18,000 test cases with a single JVM cluster, so in that respect it works well. I think if you used it in Production you would need to have done a lot of testing to make sure that there are no very subtle issues that might come back to bite you later.
The reason doing what you want is difficult is because Coherence uses a number of singletons at runtime - for example the Cluster instance, and without using a class loader it is difficult to have more than one of these. Coherence also uses a lot of System properties to override configuration values so these may need to be isolated too.
Finally using a class loader would make if difficult for your application code to interact with the two isolated nodes inside the single JVM.
It might be better if you told us why you think you need to run two nodes in a single JVM - what requirement are you trying to meet? There might be a much more sensible solution to your requirements. As NJ has suggested using Extend might be one solution but without knowing more about what you want to do I couldn't say for sure.

Record Album to MP3 & Editing MP3 Files

Two issues here.
First, I have a vinyl record album I want to turn into an MP3 file and burn to a CD. I borrowed a Radio Shack record player with built in pre-amp and already have a Sony firewire iLink digital interface.
Second, I have a long (1 ½ hour speech) on MP3 already. I want to go in and edit in and name tracks where the speaker moves on to another subject – kind of like in a music CD when songs change & you can see their names – so listeners of the CD can skip to tracks they want to hear.
Is QuickTime Pro the application for me? Will these tasks be simple enough to figure out?
I have a Mac and a PC so either platform works for me.

Not sure what the firewire interface has to do with this idea, but the general way to record LP's is to use an application designed for this - there is one packaged with Toast. You will just be recording from the audio/line input from the turntable. There are a few applications designed to assist with this task, especially with the noise reduction you are bound to need.
The MP3 speech you can edit in Audacity (free) , just select each of the pieces and export as separate MP3 files, then make an audio CD of each track. Again I'd use Toast to make an audio CD.

How can I edit a mp3 file and drop it in an iMovie project?

I wish to edit an mp3 music file so that I can drop a piece of it into an iMovie project. iMovie's audio tools are very rudimentary---one can reposition a music file, shorten it, etc but cannot pick a piece of it to complement a movie segment.
So I dropped the mp3 file into GarageBand. I deleted the first section of the song, then selected the 16 second piece I wanted to include in my iMovie, using the copy command. Then I pasted the piece into a new GarageBand project screen. The piece wouldn't play, and when I selected "export" the piece neatly went to where I wanted it, but again with no sound.
So simply: how do I edit an mp3 file (cutting a piece of it) and then save it so I can apply it to an iMovie? Help!

Two different video files in the same clip

Well, I've been looking around and have been wondering if it's possible t have two different video files play at the same time, both being shown at the same time, for example, what I would like to do is; I have two separate video files, one of me playing rhythm on a guitar, the other of me soloing, and would like the to play at once, both being visible at the same time, one on each side of the screen.

How do I change the info (artist,album,etc) on an MP3 file?

I am editing some mp3 files in GarageBand and I need to put in a different artist and album name. When I export the file from GarageBand and open it in iTunes it says that the artist is me and that it is my album. Any help on how I change it? I need to change the files properties and not just the name in iTunes because I need to upload it to the internet and so the artist name needs to be downloaded with it. I am running OS X Yosemite version 10.10.1, iTunes version is 12.0.1.26, GarageBand version 6.0.5 (428.5).

Change the preferences in GarageBand in the "My Info" settings before you create the project: The "before" is important, because a bug in earlier GarageBAnd versions causes GarageBand to ignore the changes settings, if the project has been created with different "My Info" settings.
You can also enter different settings, when you bounce the song to iTunes using the Share menu:

I would suggest by starting with a Loop. When your project is up look at the bottom right of your screen. There are 3 buttons. The one of the far right is a Music note and film frames. Wen you click on it, you should see your entire itunes library. You can search through it or type into the search bar to narrow your search. Click and drag into the project area.

Unable to view two different image files at once in PS CS4

For some reason I am unable to open two separate image files and view them both on my screen in Photoshop CS 4. My goal is to combine two versions of the same raw file in order to expand the tonal range. I want to stack the 2 images and then use a layer mask to blend the best parts of both versions. The problem is that when I open the second version, the first isn't visible until I close the top image. I want to view both images on the screen and stack them but can't do that because I only see one. Can some kind soul tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Thanks for responding. This works really well. I did learn that if I go to Window>Arrange>Float All in Windows (thanks to another email from the forum) that I can view both images at the same time. Please view this as an Option to perform your task. There are smarter ways to do this but this is what I do...
*) I pull up the image file (say pic_01) and adjust the levels in the area of the photo I want.
*) I then open from the RAW doc and it is now sitting as a Tiff in Photoshop.
*) I rename that file (such as pic_01Top) and SAVE. (But keep it open)
*) I go back and reopen pic_01 in RAW and adjust the other properties I want.
*) Open that image from RAW.
*) Perform a ctrl c to copy.
*) Close pic_01
*) Do a cntrl v to copy that over pic_01Top
*) Go to Layers-Layer mask-Hide all. (This also give you your "free" layer mask)
*) Go to my brush tool.
*) Use the black over white box arrow to reveal or conceal your bush strokes.
*) Flatten file when done and Save anyway you wish.

Import / Export Projects - Consolidating Two Separate Aperture Libraries

Question
How do I export projects that contain ONLY the referenced images from other projects? So as to avoid importing duplicate versions of the original raw file.
For example on hard dive 1 I have projects called
1. Project Summer (contain raw images)
2. Project Winter (contain raw images)
3. Project Best Shots - Contains images that are moved from both Summer & Winter ...
Issue
• When I export project Best shots...it exports raw images...
• Exporting and importing referenced images is causing me to have duplicate triplicates, etc...etc... of the original image from project 1 summer when I import to a new project
What I want?
• I only want it to export the referrenced images....so Im not getting duplicate images
Background
• All Images are all imported into Aperture (I am not using referenced files)
• I am currently using Aperture 2.1.2 and have two 500 GB hard drives with two completely separate projects.
What I am trying to do
I would like to consolidate the two separate Aperture files onto one larger hard drive and keep all my organization and sub organization.
