Panaflo fan question

i have a xp-90 with a panaflo 92mm fan model FBA09A12M.  This fan does not have rpm reading and it caused problems with my abit av8.   I just ordered a msi neo2 k8n plat nforce3.  Does this mobo have problem with fans that read 0rpm such as not booting or warning beeps

Kingdomwinds,
I am using an XP-90C Thermalright cooler with a Panaflo FBL09A12H fan on it with an MSI Neo 2 - 7025 (BIOS 1.8).  The fan is connected to the normal CPU motherboard connector thru a standard 3P Molex connector.  I do not get any CPU RPM readings from BIOS or other progams such as Speedfan or Everest.  The Panaflo fan however performs real well and it has not caused any power or boot problem with my system.  I also have the Panaflo FBL09A12M fan but I have not installed it since the higher RPM FBL09A12H worked fine.  Looking at the specs, these fans are 12 Volts and use respectively 225 and 175 ma for a power consuption of 2.70 and 1.80 W.
This rig will work fine with your new MSI-7025 Neo 2 Platinum.
Have fun,

  • Fan Question #3

Hey sorry for posting lots of fan problem, i'm here for another fan question.
right now i'm only running chrome, writing this current discussion, and the fan speed is currently 1700 rpm and the temp is 48 degrees, and i heard a bit loud motor sound from the fan, from my last post it was supposed to be a bit loud when it is used for gaming like to play TF2, is this normal or are my fans are dirty?
Sorry for my lots of fan questions, but i really need to know about my mac more.
I'm a bit paranoid about my macbook because i also use it for my school needs and it would be a pretty difficult situation for my studies if it has problems
    Thanks

13" or 15" or 17"? The little'un has one and the big'uns have two fans. I'm surprised you are seeing just 1700RPM, the default idle speed on mine is 2000. If left to its own devices, the Mac will do a fairly good job of controlling its internal temperature by revving its fan(s), but some people get nervous and try to "improve" things by adding non-Apple speed controls, that's when things start getting out of control. Like mende1 states, if things seem to be off, an SMC reset will set them straight.

  • Quick question about Panaflo fan

Will the Neo2 throttle this fan's speed based on temperature readings like it does with the stock HSF? I'd prefer it to run max speed most of the time.

Smart CPU Fan target is what I guess you're referring to? It's not on... but when I look at the RPMs the fan seems to cycle between speeds of 3375 and 4000RPM... it's usually consistent with temperature increases.
But if that's not the case then please educate me, the fan sensor could be going nuts, I don't know...

  • Hard drive and Fan questions

Just got this a few weeks ago and the fan seems to be going on...then off every few minutes. I open speedfan and it shows Temp1 (most likely the GPU) at 104F then when he fan comes on it goes to 126F then the fans go off and its back down to 104F. And the hard drive makes a clicking type noise every so often. Normal? I'm trying to record the sound.

I am interested in buying a MBP. But being an XP user
i am probably going to use Boot Camp or parralels. So
first question: I have to buy an external Hard Drive,
but what is a bootable drive and what are its
    advantages?
Its a drive that will allow you to boot the OS;-)
Second, is it possible to store XP on the external
    hard drive?
Yes it has been reported on the web that you can boot into xp from an external HD drive, but the proviso seems to be that you need to have a 5GB NTFS partition on the internal drive.

  • KT3 Ultra2 Power Supply Fan Question

What is the connector PSFAN1 used for? I thought the Power Supply Fan comes on when you turn on the computer. Seems strange that you would have to route the power through the motherboard....I am sorry for the newbie question. I do have a newer Enermax case that seems to have the correct connector coming from the wiring harness out of the power supply. Do I plug that wire onto the PSFAN1 connector?
    Dan

Yeah, you will be fine if your plug it in. I have an enermax as well and it is plugged into my mobo and all is well. There is usually a fan in the bottom of the power supply (facing the cpu) and another on the back. The one in the bottom sucks air away from the cpu and the one in the back sucks the air out. You may want to look and see if there is a fan control on the back of the power supply as some let you control the speed of the out blowing fan. Oh, by the way, I just saw that they have three fan power supplies now!

  • Detailed Stat Macbook Fan Question

    Dear Apple Community,
After quite some time spent online sifting through threads related to macbook fan noise, overheating, and everything related to it i have finally decided to ask directly for some guidance as i have yet to find a clear solution.
My problem, like many, is that the moment i start using my CPU more than just a few % , temperatures soar out of control and i guess as a result so does my fan.
I have double-triple check alternate causes for this problem. Definately not the printer-que issue as some have posted before.
It is 100% as soon as i go out of idle and use CPU problem starts and noise because problematic when sitting in library.
Here is a quick table on what happens when i go from using just excel to starting and using flash animations/journals/magazines and then back to idle again.

  • Stock heatsink+fan question

    Hello,
I have an FX55 CPU which was originally installed with the stock HSF.
I needed to remove the HSF and now i want to put it back. The question is:can I use a cooling compound (arctic silver etc) with the stock HSF or must I use the same solid product which was originally on the HSF?

I am not by my system at the moment (using the crap lump they call a pc at work  )
But as I remember, no, the release lever is right alongside the ZIF, which is totally obscured by the stock heatsink/fan, which fits snugly into the plastic 'frame' which the ZIF is in.
Care is the main item here, and possible, run the system just before you remove it, and the processor will be hot and the pad softer, I did mine cold and was lucky it didn't leave a leg behind
Was all my fault anyway, replaced my 350 W power supply with a 500 W cheapo from Ebuyer (£14-99), the powersupply looked good, but fried itself (nice smell of burning plastic) and took my motherboard with it   (but luckily my chip, memory, graphics and other attached bits survived !   )

  • 680 GTX Lightning Fan Question

I'm a proud owner of a new GTX 680 Lightning. So far the card seems pretty powerful, however there is one thing that is bugging me. I run an ASUS Maximus V Gene, and anytime the machine does not have windows loaded (tweaking the bios, running MemTest, basically anything outside of Windows), the GPU's fan speed seems to be at 100% or near that. This may not sound like a big deal, but who wants to listen to the fan at 100% while running an overnight MemTest? Is there anyway I can change the default fan settings? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, there is a LN2 version too but it is (like all new official versions) locked to 1.175v vgpu max. Do you want that? Alternatively I could give you a perfect unlocked silence LN2 version which I would pm you the downloadlink for if you agree that using is at your own risk.
    Hi,
I am considering buying two lightnings and have a couple of questions.
    1. The silence bios that you referred to, do the fans still spin backwards and just do so at a lower rpm, or do they just not do the backward spin at all?
    2. Can the blue LEDs be deactivated in the bios? My case's theme is black and red so blue wouldn't go well with that.
Basically, I'd like the card to be quiet at start up and not have any LEDs shining.
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks so much!

  • PANAFLO FAN & MSI 945G PLATINUM BOARD

I just purchased the Thermalright XP90 and the Panaflo M1A 92mm Fan for my MSI 945G Platinum board and I noticed that the fan came with only two wires and my boards CPU/FAN 1 connection has four pins. Does this mean that this fan I just bought will not work with this board?  What if I just connect it with only two wires, will I run into any problems or should I purchase a three wire cable for it or just get another fan with four wires?
Also, this fan came with no connector at the end of it as well, just bare wire that's it. Does this company ship all their fans like this and is everyone improvising their own connectors or what not?
Thanks for reading and hope to get some responses to this before I go out and waist more money again.

Thanks for the responses. However, I took a chance and hooked it up and the fan just so happens to be working fine and no problems at all so far. What I did was take a three wire plug off an old fan and plugged it into the fan and board. I do however have an extra pin showing now on the board where the cpu fan plugs into and I have no CPU fan RPM readings. I really don't understand why anybody would be so concerned at how fast the fan is turning anyway. As long as the thing is turning.

  • G5 Fan Question (As If They Could Ever End....)

I truly apologize for posting another question on this matter, but I've been doing some judicious searching through the general thoughts on similar issues, and haven't found anything too specific.
I've recently (luckily) come into posession of a Power Mac G5 Dual 2.0Ghz Non-Intel, I think they were made in 2005? (guessing). This computer was given to me, and I've been told by a lay person that it needed a Mobo-Replacement....this was probably non-professional advice given to them.
Anyway, here's the sitch. The person who gave it to me, described the "loud jet plane fan noise" that is pretty commonly observed by the Power Mac G5's....if there's some sort of error. Before I wiped the Hard Drive, it would latently keep this loud fan noise....constantly, over a period of multiple hours and CPU loads....never stop, even after non-use overnight, it'd keep the super fan mode. After reinstalling OS 10.3, it still kept the loud noises. Even after install and restarts.
BUT!! Once I updated to 10.3.9, it perfectly stays quiet. No loud noises, no super fans....nothing. Its as if the 10.3.9 update somehow tamed it down! To note as well, I downloaded the ever popular Hardware Monitor, and before the 10.3.9 it would detect any system sensors for temps. Now that I've installed 10.3.9, Hardware Monitor shows all of the sensors working nicely, and they system staying nice and cool.
Could there have been some sort of error with the intial 10.3 disks I was using, that didn't know how to control the Power Mac's fan system? (It was an iBook G4 disk set...).
I'm obviously not a genious on all this, and am trying to determine if this computer is bust or not, or if I should keep it. It seems stable so far, and is running smooth, any ideas/inputs would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!!

    Hi CodisJ-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
You did discover one fact and that is that you must use either the disks that came with your machine or a retail version of OSX. Anything else just doesn't work as the drivers to control the fans are on the disks for that particular Mac.
You may also want to check and see if your machine is covered under this repair extension program: Power Mac G5 Repair Extension Program for Power Supply Issues

  • CPU Fan Question

I have been experiencing "freeze up's" lately and I did some research here to troubleshoot the problem. I performed a thorough dusting and cleaning of the interior and the problem seemed to go away. Needless to say, after 3-4 days of problem-free operation, the "freeze-up" problem returned.
I have discovered that the CPU fan is not operating. Presently I'm using the G4 with the door open and a desk fan directed at the CPU heatsink. Operation appears to be back to normal.
Question- Should the CPU fan be constantly operating or is it thermostatically controlled on-off?
If the CPU fan needs to be replaced, is there a suitable substitute CPU fan that will enhance the cooling of the CPU?
    My model spec's are below.

    Hello Carpetbagger,
I thought my QS 2002 800 MHz (with a dual 1 GHz cpu) was running a bit hot, so I went looking for fans that moved a bit more air. Evercool makes one, but I finally settled on a Sunon PMD series - PMD1206PTB1-A - which cools the beastie right down. (It also sounds like a leaf blower) Price was less than $10, less than $15 with shipping, although I may have had to buy two (just an excuse to buy another Mac). There are several other PMD Sunon fans that would seem to fill the bill even better - increased air flow, but fewer RPMs and less noise - but they were available in quantities of 100 units (@$6 ea).
The KDE 1206 Sunon fan is one of several fitted as standard, and should work as well as it did when the QS was new. It, too, should be available at under $10.
It's a fairly common fan size - 60mm x 25mm - and has many applications, so if you search Google for fans and distributors you should find out more about availability than you ever wanted to know.
http://www.PCtoys.com/ is a source for both the KDE Sunon and Evercool.
Remember, a cool Mac is a happy Mac!

  • Drive bay fan question

I'm pretty new to the g5 so this might be a dumb question.
Several times a minute the drive bay fan speeds up to around 2500rpm for about 10 seconds and then goes back down to 1000rpm. when this happens, istat shows the drive bay temp jumping from 32c to around 110c and then back down. Seems like a big temp jump in a matter of a few seconds. Hard drive reads a constant temp of 38c. Happens wether the cpus are idle or not. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Working in a quiet room it's kind of annoying.
    Thank you mac gods
    Jeff

    Hi-
Replacing the sensor looks to be fairly easy.
Remove the hard drives, pry the board from the top of the case, unplug the cable from the logic board, and thread the cable out.
Install is the reverse, with two sided tape needed to attach the new sensor board to the tower top.
What I am unsure of, is whether or not Thermal calibration is necessary after this.
I believe that it won't be necessary, but it is a possibility.
If it were necessary, finding a copy of the Apple Service Disc (ASD) 2.5.7 would be necessary.
It is out there, so not a big worry......
The fans should be fine, as most fans are rated at 2,000-5,000 RPM for 60,000 or more hours.

  • X1950 fan question

    I got a x1950 256E. Single slot fan.
My question, is the fan supposed to stay at full 100% speed? Its very noisy, and ati tool (vista) doesn't show the option to control the fan speed, plus it seems very hot. Ill see some temps today.

  • K8tneo fan question

    Hello all,
is it possible to switch a 120mm system fan together with the cpu fan, so that the system fan will increase it's speed when temperature rise and lower it's speed when temperature sinks?
As I know only the cpu fan will be triggered by cool and quiet.
    Many Thanks,

    Sounds like one crazy mod
I assume then you have the heatsink by which to mount it on.  However to answer your question, you may be able to find a fan controller that is capable of what you are looking for.  I think the Vantec Nexus or Thermaltake might make such a controller, but I'm not positive.
If you're looking for a quiet solution, try the Zalman CNPS-7000 (I forget the exact model name).

  • 1.5GHz Fan Question

I have replaced a 1GHZ 12" PB with the last 1.5GHz model, both running Tiger. Definitely cooler, but seemingly due to a lot more fan operation. It's sometimes hard to tell because of HD noise, but it definitely kicks in pretty often, even unplugged.
For those of you with the 1.5GHz processor, what's considered normal? I certainly appreciate the cooler temps vis-a-viz the Macbooks but want to strike the right balance with battery life. Thanks.
    PowerBook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.2MB RAM 80GB HD SD

I have a 1.5Ghz 12" PowerBook and in april/may I started hearing a strange noise coming from the fan.
It didn't seem to be a problem, all applications worked fine and there was just the fan noise, but since I was worried and it was summer and I was working with this as only machine, I took it to the apple care, where they replaced my fan and logic board (under warranty).
I don't know if your issue has something to do with mine, but if you hear strange noises from the fan when the cpu starts heating, take the machine to apple care before warranty expires, just to be sure...
