Panasonic 3CCD Firewire help

Okay, so I am trying to import videos from my boss' Panasonic 3CCD via Firewire, but when I plug it into the computer, it won't even recognize there is a camera in IMovie or Final Cut Studio 2. I have next to no knowledge on Firewire. I tried finding forms on it...but I didn't get much luck. I don't even know what the difference between Firewire 400 and 800 is. All I know is that the cord fits perfectly into the DV of the camera and my Firewire port of my computer. Is there some sort of special Firewire firmware I need to get....or some way I need to create a Firewire network???
I do have the camera plugged into the wall btw. I know sometimes going of of battery power can screw things up.

I have a Panasonic PV-GS320 3ccd that I have imported video from into iMovie. To the best of my recollection, it didn't require any software that did not already exist on my 2010 iMac running 10.6.5
Initially, iMovie did not see the camera, but after discovering that it was set to 'PC', I changed the camera from PC to Playback(Mode dial of the Panasonic) and it was recognized and I was able to control the transport and import footage....
Check that and if you have no luck, I will try to get more specifics about my setup.....

Firewire cameras do not show up on the desktop like little hard drives.
To what computer model are you connecting the camera?
With everything turned off (camera and computer), turn on the camera, then start the computer.
When both devices are up and running, in the computer go to SYSTEM PROFILER. Look in the Hardware> firewire catagory. Does the camera show up?
If not, you have a firewire issue. One of the ports (cam or computer) isn't functioning or the cable is no good.
If it does show up, launch iMovie. Does iMovie see the camera and can it capture a bit of video?
If not, there is something off with the camera settings
If so, you should be able to capture in FCP.
    To capture in FCP
Launch FCP, select DV/NTSC 48khz from the Easy Presets to set up your capture settings
Open up the log and capture dialog. Your camera should be there.

  • What cable do i need to connect my Panasonic 3ccd camcorder to my mac firewire 800 port

I just bought a new iMac.  I want to load all my mini dv home movie onto it to create movies but can't seem to find a cord that fits into the camera.  I have the cord that came with it but the other end that goes into the iMac is a USB cable and won't register the camera.  Is there a cord out there that will work?  If not what other options do I have?

  • Will external hard disk with firewire help me to back up my laptop using time machine?

    Hi,
I have macbook pro from 2011 with 750GB hard disk and I try to back up my hard disk using time machine for the first time.
I used time machine before in the previous OSX versions but I had to format the external disk.
I have an external Western Digital hard disk with 3TB space. It has only usb connection.
When I try to backup all my data (650GB) the speed is 25GB per day, so it will take me about a month to backup my disk.
It's my work laptop, so I can't leave it for backup for more than 2-3 days.
I read a lot of forums and tried to see if the small speed is only at the beginning of the back up.
I also tried all the tricks with turning off the spotlight indexing and so on.
Nothing really helps, so my question is:
Is it going to help, if I buy an external disk with a firewire connection? Will I be able to backup my data in 2-3 days?
    Thanks,
    Arshavski Alexander

A Firewire drive would only be about twice as fast as USB 2, so you're still looking at 15 days. Something isn't right.  I'm usinge FW800, and my my 1TB backs up overnight.

  • Firewire to firewire HELP!

    Hey guys,
new here and in need of some help. I need to transfer all my data from my dual core g5 desktop. The Migration tool works great, but when prompted to check off the things I want to migrate off of the G5 it totally miscalculates the amount of space the "username" is taking up. Its a huge number like "183459.57 gb". Somebody please shed some light on this subject, I need to get data off of this desktop before tomorrow monrning.
    thanks in advance,

    Here is an article....
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2333.html
Before using Migration Assistant, make sure that both computers have Mac OS X installed and that you have a FireWire cable to connect the two computers.
To transfer files using Migration Assistant:
From the Finder on your new computer, open Migration Assistant, located in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder.
Follow the onscreen instructions to connect a FireWire cable and choose the files you want to transfer.

  • Firewire help please

k guys i nee some serious help....im getting a little nervous here.
I recently purchased a mackie mixer the onyx 1620, and the other day i purchased the firewire adapter
let me just say the mixer is great, i couldnt be happier. However, the firewire card isnt picking up all the channels when i use garage band. i know garage band only allows for 8 tracks at a time. But when i go into the applications folder and click on the input and choose onyx firewire, it doesnt show the 8 channels. Im getting annoyed at why this wont work, any advice and or help would be greatly appreciated

K so here is the thing...when i use to record to my mac before i had the firewire i would record through the tape in and out. So all of my instruments recorded into one track, that creates an issue when you want to edit your instruments. And at that time the volume was good the waves were visable and the lights would get to the sweet spot, right be for it clips.
I purchased the firewire so that i could record every instrument on separate tracks. This is possible, and the recording works, but usually when you record you see a big audio wave going up and down...not the case for me. When i do record it looks as though nothing is getting recorded my volumes are as high as the can go, and the lights arent even in the green. This issue makes it hard to edit my recordings
    please help

  • SATA/Firewire HELP!

I'm a relative inexperienced computer user so I apologize up front if this is a silly question. Can someone please explain to me the difference of these external hard drives and which one is "better"?
I'm looking to purchase an external hard drive for my MBP core duo (not core 2). I would use this drive to back-up my music, files, photo's and also use it for storage for some digital editing I do on Final Cut Pro.
Any help on helping me understand this would be greatly appreciated.

"bootable" means that you can boot (start) your computer from the external hard drive, in case the internal hard drive ever fails. That way, if you are backing up your system on a regular basis, you can get back to where you were just before your internal hard drive failed.
One thing you might want to consider is an external hard drive with more than one kind of port in the enclosure. That way, you can buy the hard drive now, use the FireWire port you have, and then when you are ready (and prices on ExpressCard 34 eSATA II Cards come down a bit), you can use that port. Also, you then have the best of both worlds. The speed of eSATA and the ability to boot if necessary using the FireWire port. Other World Computing has hard drives inside enclosures that have both FireWire and eSATA (and USB). Keep in mind that there is eSATA and eSATA II. eSATA II is something like twice as fast as eSATA.
Last thing. If you are using Final Cut Pro, you have HUGE files. I'd consider getting a very large HD. Storage is cheap.

  • Firewire help

What's Up Experts? Thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you can help me clarify a couple of things.
Issue: I have a pc with a2nz/firewire and a mac ibook with firewire:
I want to record from the pc to the mac using reason or fruityloops over the firewire connection to prosoniq or audacity. When I try that with prosoniq it crashes the mac everytime. Do I have to have an interface to accomplish this? Is there a software internal interface that will accomplish the task at hand?

I have the exact same problem: the iPod charges but is not recognized.
I have a 3rd generation 10gb iPod connected to my PC via a PCI firewire card under Windows XP SP2.
Weird thing is I have tried with another 3rd generation iPod and it worked fine.
    This is annoying.

  • Firewire Help For Total Lamebrain Needed

I have an iMac that has been having problems and have purchased a Firewire HD. I transferred my information over to the external, but I don't think I've done it correctly. Someone suggested that my main operations program (I think that's what they called it) was not on the Firewire HD. I want to boot up from my Firewire for now until I can get the problem with the internal HD resolved. However I need to know how to put the system I need on the Firewire in order than I can boot up from there. I have been having to start up my computer using a "safe" boot because of kernal panics. I am in the process of straigtening that out, but I need to use the computer for a couple of hours using the Firewire. I hope this makes sense. As I mentioned I am a total lamebrain and if someone has the step by step way to do this and can help me out I will bake my next cake in your honour. Thank you in advance.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You can do as suggested and user superduper (or carbon copy cloner) to replicate your internal drive to your external. If the issue you are having with your internal is software related, you might just end up moving the problem over to your firewire drive.
You can always just use the install dvd and do a new system install onto you firewire drive. This way you will be sure not to move you problem over from the internal drive. If you do this, you need to format your firewire drive using disk utilities (in the application/utility directory). There is an option you need to select to allow the firewire drive to boot the system. It is the partition scheme called GUID.
Either way you go (superduper or new system install), you need to format the firewire drive to the guid scheme.
    Hope this helps.

  • Panasonic 3CCD PV-GS70D

I recently purchased an iMac.  I have tried to connect it to the camera via firewire and it isn't locating the camera.  Everything I read is you just need to plug it in and iMovie should start.  Do I need to change preferences?  Please help.

    Brigz04,
You should probably repost in the iMovie forum. Also double check you have the correct cable and following the directions in iMovie. This forum is a general iMac forum, the iMovie guru's normally hang out in that forum. Also double check the camera's specs to see if it's compatible with the version of OS X you're running.
While we're on the subject of what version of OS X you're running PLEASE update your profile to reflect what system you have and the version of OS X. We can't help if we don't know anything about your system. Click Your Stuff in the upper right, then click Preferences and completed as needed.

  • Panasonic SDR-S7 Help!

    Hi there,
I just bought a Panasonic SDR-S7. I shot a few test videos, but when I connected the camera to my iBook, the DCIM file was blank.
Can anyone help me out and tell me what I need to do to make this work?
    Do I need iLife?
    TIA

I have the same camera, and I've found that the trick to importing movies is to start iMovie before you plug in the camera. Start up iMovie '08 or '09, plug in the camera, and wait for a few seconds (to a few minutes depending on the computer). iMovie should open a window asking you if you want to import. I don't think G4 vs. Intel would make a difference, the issue seems to be that the S7 records in MPEG2 and only iMovie '08 and '09 have the proper decoder built in.

  • Panasonic VDR-M50 Help

I have a Panasonic VDR-M50 camera and have purchased the quicktime update as well as downloading the MPEG Streamline file. I am still have difficulties figuring out how to download and convert the movies from my camera to my computer. Not sure if I have to try and download it using Quicktime of the other program? Or is there something else? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi. Welcome.
Well, that particular camcorder is not on the supported list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014
    Here is Apple's suggestions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/7.0/en/19544.html
It would help to know what your Mac system configuration is.
Also by "quicktime update" I presume you are referring to QT Pro? And the other program is MPEG Streamclip? You're aiming to get the MPEG-2 files converted prior to importing into iMovie, correct?

  • Using Alesis Multimix8 firewire - help!

Hi - has anyone used an Alesis multimix8 firewire interface with garageband? I hook up and select everything as indicated in the help instructions - but I get no signal when I plug my guitar into the Alesis and try to record it. My iMac is recognizing that the Alesis is there (it's on the select menu) - I select the proper channel and turn on the monitoring but nothing. I do notice that the input level slider is to the left and I can't click and move it - nothing happens when I try. If anyone knows what to do in this situation I'd be really grateful!!

  • P6N Platinum FireWire help!

I've tried everything and can't get my firewire ports to work.  I have an external hdd that works fine with my laptop, but when I connect it to my new system, it's not recognized by XP.  I checked the connections twice, firewire is enabled in Bios (1.5), re-installed the OS, upgraded all the drivers...WHAT AM I MISSING?

    Hello botsman,
please provide full system specs.  It is better to have at least a mental picture of your system to be able to give better advice.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< to get an idea of what we need to know. The best thing is to create a signature.  That way your system profile will be visible at all times.
    A few questions:
Does an IEEE 1394 Controller appear in device manager?
The board should have a FireWire port at the back panel.  In addition to that, it is possible to have an extra port on a special bracket that is connected to a pin header on the board.  Which port is your FireWire Device connected to?
What kind of device are you trying to get to work?

  • Wrong Audio When Using Camcorder via Firewire Help

    Hello all,
I'm having a problem with iMovie. Ok here is what I'm using. Canon ZR960 MiniDV camcorder with external mic input, M-Audio Fast Track USB audio interface and my black Macbook running 10.5.8 leopard.
Ok I set up my camcorder as a pass through video source via firewire in iMovie 08, and I connect my USB audio interface to the usb port so that I can use professional dynamic recording microphones, Shure SM57, Sennheiser e609...etc for the audio portion of the video instead of the recorded audio from the video camera's built in microphone.
In iMove, there is an option to choose the Fast Track as the audio source, which I choose.
But, when I'm done recording, the audio was not from the fast track, it was from the video camera's built in microphone.
How can I recored the audio from the Fast track instead of the audio from the video camera?

Connect it via firewire 800. USB2 is not good for audio or video streaming.
I have 3 D2's connected to my mac pro, works like a charm.
    good luck.
