Panasonic AG-HSC1U compatibility w.FCE/FCP or i movie08 ?

on some reviews of this camcorder it is stated that it works fine.
true or false?

CLick on UNDERDOG and read my blog. I talk heavily about working with the HVX-200 and intermixing the footage shot with it and the Varicam. It works with FCP rather flawlessly. Many of the features are tied to the P2 card, such at 23.98 24PN...24 real fps opposed to pulldown removal. If you use the firestore HD with this, you cannot use that feature. Also, the firestore breaks your footage into 2GB chunks as it is formatted fat 32, so when the chunks are re-assembled there are small 2-5 frame gaps. A fix is in the works, and this isn't consistant behavior.
The HVX-200 shoots DVCPRO HD, which is a 4:2:2 colorspace as opposed to the JDV HDV format which is 4:2:0. Plus, the HDV format is virtually unkeyable, suffers from motion artifacts when fast motion occurs (most notably the blurring of the objects opposed to nice clean pictures).
I cannot recommend that camera more highly over ANY HDV camera. But mind you, the P2 workflow isn't for every production. There are many instances where I'd suggest the HDV cameras over the HVX because of what is being filmed and the workflow needed.
What will you be shooting?

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS CAMERA IS A GOOD CHOICE ?
    (Panasonic AG-HSC1U)
CAN I JUST DRAG THE H.264 OR MPEG 4 FILES OFF THE CAMERA FROM IT'S USB LINK TO THE INTERNAL HD ON MY G5 OR MACPRO?
DO I HAVE TO DO LOG AND CAPTURE?
ANY EXTRA CARDS OR SOFTWARE I HAVE TO BUY FOR THIS?
WHAT WOULD BE MY SEQUENCE SETTINGS?
    NEVER EDITED HD BEFORE!
I'M I MISSING ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD ASK?

    Please excuse my ignorance
I don't understand what you mean by this.
    Can you please elaborate.
"The HDMI to DVCproHD only works when you send out original material direct from the CCDs. Once it has been recorded, well, you have what's recorded."
I have been editing in FCP since version 1.2 back in the os 9 days
but this is the first time I am going to HD, and I need to get all of the facts.
Any suggestions on a good HD camera that is more point, shoot, capture and edit.
    Thank you for your patients

  • Xmas is Coming! Would You Like 50 FREE Video Tutorials for FCE/FCP?

Ripple Training produce some excellent tutorials on CD.
However, they also give away over 50 video tutorials for FCE/FCP.
Many of them are for FCP BUT (most) also apply to FCE.
They deal with each topic in a short and punchy style. I found them easy to follow and learned some useful quick tips.
They are QT movies which can be downloaded so that you can use them whenever you want. (Allow about an hour to download them all - you have to do them one at a time). I found it quicker to download all of them (except for a few dealing with multi-camera work etc.) rather than viewing them on the website to sort them out.
    http://www.rippletraining.com/engine/free_tutorials.html
Hope you find them as useful as I did.
    Ian.

Just a couple of additional points for newcomers:-
    1. The estimation of an hour (or so) to download them all refers to Broadband (ADSL). Normal "Snailmail" internet will take around 10 hours!
    2. To download each lesson choose File>Save Page As. A window will appear saying it will be saved as a QuickTime Movie on the Desktop. Click Save.

  • CALLING DA NAM ......... Where is your FCE/FCP Getting Started Tutorial ?

I don't know whether Da Nam has dropped off the forums but last year he posted a BRIEF tutorial to get beginners started with FCE/FCP.
I have searched but cannot find that post.
Does anyone know where it (or anything similar) can be found ?

  • New Website Offering 10 Very Slick FCE/FCP Plugins.

Gogiangigo from the FCP forum has been developing Effects, Transitions and Generators for FCE/FCP.
These are very slick plugins which should be useful to FCE editors.
The site also has some very professional looking video demos/tutorials showing every plugin in use.
You are welcome to download the plugins free of charge but Gogiangigo will not object if anyone donates a few pennies (or more!) as the site costs quite a bit to run and the plugins take time to produce.
Donations would no doubt ensure that new plugins are developed and added.
I am sure he would be interested in hearing suggestions for new filters but don't ask for an "Instant Auto-Edit Plugin"!
    http://www.videonline.co.uk/Luca_Plugins.htm

An update to my original posting ............. Apparently gogiangigo had over 700 visits to his site yesterday and some 600 downloads.
In view of the interest shown, he has opened a blog where folk can ask questions or discuss current, new and proposed plugins.
    http://lucasplugins.blogspot.com/
I'm sure he would appreciate any input, be it help, comments or suggestions.

  • Did I Dream It? Combined FCE/FCP Questions In Final Cut Forum?

I am sure that for the last few weeks the Final Cut Forum has combined the questions from both FCE and FCP.
Then yesterday - NOTHING! Just a doorway for entering FCE, FCP, LiveType etc.
    Did I dream it?
I actually liked the combination of the 2 sites.
    Did anyone else?

  • Why No Demo Version Of FCE/FCP ?

Over the past year I have seen at least a couple of requests for a Demo version of FCE/FCP.
It would seem sensible for Apple to give away 30-Day Fully Functioning Demos to prospective purchasers.
A number of other makers do it - like Adobe with their Photoshop etc. demos - and as far as I can tell they seem pretty secure!
Is there some technical reason for Apple not providing them?
It would certainly solve the problem of those people who are not sure whether either they or their cameras could cope!
    Ian.

Yes, I agree. They do the Demo with Aperture, so its not something new to them. Although I probably woldn't do it anymore becuase I already have FCE, it would be nice for prespective buyers. I guess they can head over to the local Apple Store to take it for a test run, but then you can't work on it with your own videos.

  • What Is The Legal Situation With Upgrades And The Original Copy Of FCE/FCP?

Imagine you have an original copy of FCE/FCP.
You buy an Upgrade and of course use your original serial number to make it work.
You then register the new product with Apple.
Can you then sell your original version and keep your legal entitlement to use the Upgrade?
This question arises from an advert I have just seen on eBay where it looks as though the seller is doing precisely that (if you read their reasons for selling).
    Final Cut Suite
    Ian.

    Hi Ian,
The answer is NO. It would not be legal for either the seller or the purchaser (assuming the seller purchased & applied an Upgrade to his original installation instead of purchasing a whole new copy with its own full license).
In the packaged software world, when you purchase an Upgrade you are only purchasing a license to upgrade from a previously legally owned & installed copy of the software. When you enter the serial number of the previous copy you are identifying that copy. Regardless of whether or not Apple actually tracks the serial numbers, your upgrade license requires you to be the continuing owner of the original license in order for your upgrade license to be valid.
Under the circumstances as they appear in this eBay transaction, the seller would legally lose both their original and upgrade licenses and the purchaser would be illegally installing a previously licensed software package.
The only way to conduct a legal transfer of license would be to deinstall the original software before selling. Of course, that means you would no longer have the software to use yourself.

  • So You Think Your Computer's Not Powerful Enough For FCE/FCP !!!!!

It's NOT a question - just some sobering thoughts!
How many times do we get worried owners asking whether the Mac they have or the one they intend to get will have enough power to operate FCE/FCP?
So I trawled through the history books - otherwise known as back-copies of Macworld and this is what I discovered.
Final Cut Pro was released in April 1999. At that time the most powerful Macs had the following specification:-
    G3 450MHz processors.
    OS 8.6
Couldn't find the HD size but guess it was around 20GB.
All this power cost over £2,000 !
Now I know that the latest versions of FCE/FCP have additional features, but if we disregard HD processing the latest are not that much different from the original.
So has anyone, even those that buy the puniest Mac-Mini, got anything to really worry about?
    Ian.(Who sets cats amongst pigeons).

I have a 1Ghz, G4 Powerbook w/768MB RAM and FCEHD runs beautifully. I also successfully use DVDSP2, Compressor, Cinema 4d 9.52, AE6.5Pro and RealFlow3. Motion 1 causes some crashes when I try to use particle effects and some AE based plug ins, but it does work for basic stuff.
    OK, bragging over

  • IMovie will not recognize Panasonic AG-HSC1U

I cannot get iMovie 7.1 to recognize AVCHD video download from Panasonic AG-HSC1U hard drive. Does anyone have an answer to this problem?

    That's odd.
If you have an empty iMovie project, iMovie will switch to the attached camera's standard (in this case PAL).
If the iMovie project is NOT empty, iMovie will tell you it can't import from the camera, because it's of the wrong standard.
If you need to convert between PAL<->NTSC, use the JES DeInterlacer for best results:

  • FCE FCP cross compatibility

Sorry to waist everyone's time with a basic question, but hopefully someone can give me a straight answer. I searched around the user group but couldn't find what I was looking for.
My question is if Final Cut Express projects and Final Cut Pro projects are cross compatible. If I start and edit a project in Express, can I take that project and work on it in Pro, and vice versa, if I start a project in Pro, can I then work on it in Express, and have everything work alright, and changes be saved. I asked because I am trying to start a doc project, but my partner is in another state. He has Pro readily accessible, but I only have Express. I'm wondering if I need to switch to Pro..
Sorry for the long winded question, and thank you for any information.
    Phil

As Al said with the correct versions of the applications you can go from FCE to FCP. However once the project has been saved in FCP there is a very good chance it will no longer open in FCE. Express projects can be opened in FCP, but Pro projects cannot normally be opened in Express. They are not fully cross compatible.

  • FCE & FCP compatibility with OMF files and Pro Tools

I am using Final Cut Express 3.5 and want to edit a future project on it for a friend. When I am finished with the project, I was wanting to export the audio as an OMF file so that it can be mixed in Pro Tools. However, I just realized that Final Cut Express 3.5 does not support OMF exporting.
I am trying to work around this problem and I just need some verification that my idea will work. This is my idea: Will it work if I take my finished FCE project and open it on a friend's computer that has Final Cut Pro and create an OMF file through FCP?
If so, after mixing in Pro Tools, will I be able to import the mixed audio back into my FCE (or worst case scenario, my friend's FCP) and be able to burn the movie to DVD?

    1. Depends on the FCP version they're using. FCP5.1 or later will work.
    2. Yes.

  • Compatability between FCE and FCP

    Hi all,
We run a number of copies of (Non-Universal) FCP on G5s. We ahve a client who wants to do some tinkering of their own to some edits and has an Intel Macbook. A universal copy of FCE seems to be the answer for them as long as:
    1. FCE can use the projects / sequences /media created in FCP
    2. FCP can use the projects / sequences /media created in FCE
    3. There are no issues with one being the Universal and the other not.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
    Ben

    Hi all,
We run a number of copies of (Non-Universal) FCP on
G5s. We ahve a client who wants to do some tinkering
of their own to some edits and has an Intel Macbook.
A universal copy of FCE seems to be the answer for
    them as long as:
Speaking from exprience using the PPC version of FCE 3.0 on an Intel iMac, when I launched it, I got an error message saying I didn't have to right processor/video card (?) and the only option was to quit launching the program. At that dialog box, I pressed the esc key and it continued launching and I had no problems using it. I don't know if that will work on a MacBook, try and find out. I removed it from my PPC machine before installing it on the Intel machine. Also for what it's worth, the license for FCP 5.1 (UB) allows for a single install on a desktop machine and a laptop owned by the same person and only one copy running at a time.
    1. FCE can use the projects / sequences /media
    created in FCP
    I don't know. Haven't tried.
    2. FCP can use the projects / sequences /media
    created in FCE
I used FCP 5.1 (UB) to open FCE 3.0 (PPC) projects and found no problems doing so.
    3. There are no issues with one being the Universal
    and the other not.
Not that I found, but I'm a weekend editor and may not have come across any issues, a power user may be able to answer better.

  • FCE/FCP converstion

Is it possible to convert log files from final cut express to final cut pro and vis-a-versa. If so, is it possible to do this across versions, and if not, which version of FCE corresponds to FCP?
    Cheers!

What do you mean by log files? There is no batch list function in FCE for either export or import.

  • Can Curved Verticals Be Corrected Reasonably Easily In FCE /FCP ?

A friend has shot some holiday footage using a screw-on wide-angle lens.
This of course has resulted in distortion causing vertical lines near the edge of the frame to bend.
Is there a reasonably simple way of correcting this using FCE or FCP ? Somebody did suggest trying After Effects but as he does not know how to use it, it wasn't very helpful !
    Ian.

You might want to try asking the question on the Creative Cow FCP forum.
