Panasonic AJ-D250 VTR

Wonder if the Panasonic AJ-D250 DVCPRO VTR will ever work with FCP5 in the future. What a shame that a $7000 VTR was made useless by a software upgrade.

Can I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1. to import movies from Panasonic VDR-D250 via USB 2.0? How? (page in handbook?)
Further specifications of this older camera:
    USB 2.0
DVD-RAM (cannot be inserted in my MBP!)
    50-PAL (signal)
    MPEG2
    Dolby Digital
I want to use FCE if possible but maybe could try to install the software of this camera on Windows virtual XP also on my MBP?

I forward an answer of Panasonic (written in German):
So Panasonic does not offer a software which is compatible with Apple!
Bezug nehmend auf Ihre Anfrage teilen wir Ihnen mit, dass der Camcorder

  • Panasonic DVCPRO HD VTR capture issue

Hi, I am new to Final Cut and am having a problem capturing recently shot DVCPRO HD footage into Final Cut. I set it up to the proper settings and went to the log and capture window. THe problem is that the Final Cut doesn't seem to have control over the device. If I press play on the VTR (Panasonic 1200A), the footage comes through and plays in the capture window. BUT, I cannot control the device with my mouse (by pressing play, stop, etc) in the capture window. Also, when I type an In and an Out and try and "capture clip" it says it is "cueing" the clip but is never able to connect with the VTR. Any ideas? Something I'm missing?
    Thanks in advance,
    Brendan

Are we to assume that you have installed the optional AJ-YA(D)120AG board?
    and are connected via FW?
    And in menu 600 you've selected 1394?

  • Elements doesnt recognise my panasonic vdr -d250 camcorder. Does elements capture video from camcorders by usb. Camcorder has no firewire.

does premiere elements capture video from camcorders using usb. my camera does not have firewire

Major backup time regarding your "capture", "USB connection", "no firewire for camcorder".......
Let us start again. Your question was interpreted as one concerning DV data capture into Premiere Elements capture window (requires a firewire connection).
I just dug into the user guide for your camera...instead of a miniDV camcorder, I find a camera that records DVD-VIDEO to a DVD disc. Is that your camera's description? That puts a different complexion to the matter. Please confirm that you are recording to a DVD-VIDEO standard to widescreen on a DVD disc. If not that, then please explain with more details.
If you camera is recording as I now believe, you do not need a firewire or USB connection.
    1. Place the finalized DVD disc in the DVD burner tray of your computer.
    2. If you are working with Premiere Elements 12 Windows, then set the project preset for NTSC DV Standard or Widescreen (or the PAL counterpart, depending on your computer setup), and then, in the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 12, Add Media/"DVD camera or computer drive", Video Importer.
This process copies (rips) video files (VOBs) of the DVD-VIDEO and allows you to put these video files on the program's Timeline for edits and export.
Please let us know if we are now in sync on what you are seeking.
    Thanks.

  • Panasonic AG DV2500 VTR

I was doing some research on this deck on the forum and found that a few people had wondered whether it was compatible with FCP 5. I purchased one and set it up last night. For those of you who wanted to know, it works perfectly with Final Cut.
    Dan

Sorry, but your posts have me a bit confused...
I see two slightly different profiles, neither of which match what I'm guessing is your current configuration...so please clarify.
Exactly what version of FCP/OS/QT are you running and on specifically which model computer? Is the machine PowerPC or Intel?
Are you running your USB/Airport getup, because you don't have a second FW bus on an eMac? I'd be surprised if that configuration has worked in the past...but since I've never tried it, I couldn't really say.
And yes, the process of shutting down/unplugging everything is meant to 'reset' everything. This very often restores proper connections in a solid configuration.
    Post back with details.

  • Panasonic vdr-d250

In the supported list of camcorders this one doesn't come up, that is really strange because it is pretty much the same camera as the d300 or d310, and these are listed.
Can anybody tell me if it is supported? Have you tried it?
    Thank you

Hello, I actually have a vdr-300 so I know what you're going through. Luckily there is an answer. All you have to do is download this file converter and drag the MPEG files to the window

  • Audio Sync issues since FCP 4.1.1

I'm going to give a brief description of my problem and I just need to know a few things.
Now, Batch, Clip capture all give the same results. Panasonic AJ-D250 deck capturing into final cut 4.1.1 through to 5.0.4 via firewire. It doesn't matter what kind of mac and how much memory it has because it has happened on 3 different macs all the way up to the new G5's purchased 6 months ago, starting from a G4 866. I have tried everything, changing the settings on the deck, following panasonic technicians specs on what the deck settings should be (which I recieved a few different settings each time) Changed every setting in final cut pro, different firewire cables, heck we even have 4 AJ-D250's and they all slip out of sync after 20 minutes (7 frames out of sync) and slippage increases with time. Installing FCP 5 for the first time it was out of sync 5 minutes into the capture.
According to Panasonic, it's apple problem. They also said that apple knows about it and says it's their audio codec.
What I would like to know is where do I find this audio codec. Supposively (because I haven't been there when this happened) everything was good with FCP 3.0. So that being said can I use that audio codec with FCP 5.0?
I know it's FCP because I have used quicktime to capture the clips...perfect capture, I have use myvcr to capture the clips...perfect capture, when we had iMovie installed...perfect capture.
And to add to that depending on the DIF setting in the VTR, renders different but consitant results in the audio capture, DIF Audio=DVCPRO (audio drop out 'flatline audio' for 1.5 frames randomly throughout capture) DIF Audio=DV (audio spike for 1.5 frames randomly throughout capture) None of this happens with the 3 above mentioned programs-quicktime, myvcr, and iMovie.
    Any ideas?
    Andrew

Is this the 12 bit audio problem?

  • RE: Capture Problems on External Drive/Audio drift over time

    Greetings FCP gurus -
I posted earlier on the LAFCPUG board and now seek worldwide assistance with a problem I can't seem to resolve.
Been working in FCP since 1.5. Been successfully capturing on external FW devices for over 4 years with an old 500 MHz Powerbook - no problems.
I recently upgraded to FCP 5 Studio on a PowerBook 1.5 GHZ 512 RAM FW 4/8 machine. Prior to upgrade, I was running Panther (OS X 10.3X) and FCP 4.5 HD. This configuration allowed me to flawlessly capture to external FW drives from Panasonic AJ-D250 DVCPRO deck using a standard DVNTSC codec. Prior to that I was also able to do the same from a Sony DSR-11 deck. No longer.
I now get a constant audio "drift" every time I capture. I've tried shortening the clips to under 10 minutes - even as small as 5 minutes - but the audio progressively drifts as the clip plays on. This is true in both FCP and QT. I completely reformatted the laptop/wiped the drive prior to install (Unjournaled) and it currently has 25 gig available disk space on the 80 gig internal drive. Additionally, I'm using LaCie 7200 RPM Oxford 911 chip-set external drives. I've tried with clean D2 FW 800 and Porsche FW 400 drives to no avail - even reformatted one and still no luck.
    Current configurations attempted:
FW 800 PB port to FW 800 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 PB port
FW 800 PB port to FW 800 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 drive port
FW 400 PB port to FW 400 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 drive port
    ..and so on.
I'm at wit's end and appreciate any insight. Is anyone else having issues capturing to External FW media via FCP 5 Studio/OSX 10.4.x? I don't currently have the option of internal drives to capture as I'm working at a client site. Additionally, I sold my FCP 4.X upgrade software so going backwards is not an option either... Even took the deck home and tried this same trick on my home machine (Dual 500 G4 Sawtooth) to the internal ATA drive with the same result -...drifting audio. Since upgrade this is my first capture and needless to say it's not going well.
Help, information and insight are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Expressofiend! Were you able to resolve this issue yet? We are having an IDENTICAL problem. We shoot on a Canon XL2, and thought that might be causing the audio drifting issue? We also have a Panasonic AD-J 250 deck, and when we capture, say an interview, the lip sync is perfect for a few minutes, then drifts as much as a second or two over 20 minutes of capture. It's making us crazy. Happens when we capture to an external LaCie or our internal drive. We're using Apple's 2.7 gig duel processor computer. 2 Gig of ram, all the latest versions of Tiger, Final Cut Pro 5, etc. If we look at the Quicktime movie - it shows the audio drift - you don't even need to view it through Final Cut!
Interestingly, if we use the Canon XL2 camera as the source player when we capture the 20 minute piece - there is NO audio drift or syncing problem. Only with the AJD 250! We've spoken with the senior engineer at Panasonic - he doesn't think it's the DVCPro unit. Says drifting audio isn't the kind of thing an out of adjustment or broken deck would do.
    Anyway, any answers here yet?
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • Missing audio for one frame

Okay, been using Premiere for well over a decade now and this problem has plagued me for years.  I've never found time to actually make a comment about it until now; I just would find a work around.
This has been going on since 2006, when I started using 1394 to capture video after a Matrox card went crispy.  Sometimes, seemingly at random, I lose one frame of audio on clips that I capture.  My captures rarely exceed 60 seconds.  I usually capture some head and tail black along with a slate if available, the issue could still be happening but I can't hear it since it's quiet anyway.  Here's an example:
I zoomed in on the one channel to point it out; it spans both channels.  If I bring this in to Audition, the space times out to exactly one frame (0.033 seconds).  If I capture the same piece again, it's possible to have another frame drop but I've never had it at the same location twice.  I've had this from Premiere CS2 to 4.  I'm capturing off a Panasonic AJ-D250 directly to Premiere, no third party card.
Here's the first kicker: a completely separate system using a different model (still Pan. tho) deck in the same building has the same issue. I could bring this tape to that system and get similar results.
Kicker #2: I now have a completely new computer and have upgraded to 5.5.  The above was captured with that system.  The system also came with a different editor on it (a major one that I am not overly fond of and won't mention here) but that captures via 1394 without this issue.
I think I can rule some things out but the common items left are: 1394 capturing, using a Panasonic deck for playback and capturing into Premiere.  I've noted posts around the Internet describing the same issue dated as early as 2004.
Thoughts or ideas on how to eliminate this problem?

So no other decks Firewire capable in my building besides the Panasonics (AJ-D250's and AJ-D455's) but I came across something worth posting.
I downloaded and have been using the DVIO.exe program and have used it for about two weeks without any audio drops.
I hope to have a 1394 device here sometime to try capturing off that.

  • PPro cs 6.0.2 Export to Tape Dropped Frames

My specs are in my profile pic (pending approval).  I just upgraded to PP cs6 and have an odd thing happening.  Has anyone else seen this?  Does anyone have an explanation?
Whenever I output to tape (FireWire to Panasonic AJ-D250, DVC Pro), I get dropped frames.  Anywhere from 2-30 but I only get them in the first five seconds or so.  After that I don't think it drops a darn thing.  I don't hear or see any stutters in my output as of yet.  I usually start with five seconds of black so I really don't care if that has drops. This is more of an oddity at this point.
What I've tried, each case the timeline was fully rendered:
Output from a different drive (single 7200 SATA)
Creating a single media file and outputting that
Outputting NOTHING (put something in the timeline, increase the work area, delete the instance)
Clean Cache & delete prefs and retry the above
I think I forgot something else but that is my list.
I reinstalled PP cs 5.5 and tried an output from that.  All was golden...no drops and smooth playing.
I'm playing back NTSC video off a 5TB RAID drive, it's not like I'm trying to play 1080i off a memory card or anything.
So that's what I've got going.  Like I said, an oddity.  The moment this starts to hinder the important stuff, the stuff that goes on air or in presentations, then I'm going to be a little more upset.

I don't use tape, but I do have a few saved links that may help

Hardware MPE must be OFF to be able to export via Firewire

  • Problem capturing DVCAM material

    Hi,
I have got some material shot in pal 4:3 on DVCAM. I am using a Panasonic AJ-D250 DVCPRO dec and Final Cut Pro 5 HD to capture and edit the material. However, when I capture the material using log and capture, Final Cut can read the timecode but there is no video/audio signal coming through?
    I am capturing using
'DV PAL 48 kHz' with the 'Firewire Pal Basic' connection.
The deck is playing back ok when a monitor is attached.
Any help that you may be able to offer will greatfully received.
    Many thanks
    Ross.

    Dual 2 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   2GB DDR2 SDRAM

DVCAM (sony) and DVCPRO (panasonic) really don't play well together at all.
An example: I can play dvcpro on my dsr-11 DVCAM deck, but I get no code and cannot capture.
I don't think those two companies like each other too well. Best bet: rent a dv cam deck, or buy a dsr-11 if you're going to be doing a lot of this stuff.

  • Capture Problems URGENT...

I have rented a Panasonic AJ-SD93 vtr to capture footage in dvcpro format. When I attempt to capture, the error reads:
"Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved."
Nothing captures. It is as if it instantly freeze frames and errors out. I tried changing my capture settings to non-controlable device and use "capture now" but even that doesn't work. However, FCP can control the device and preview works fine. I just can't capture. What am I doing wrong??? Thanks in advance.
    Final Cut Studio HD 5.0

DO NOT set device control to non controllable. This is for devices that don't output timecode such as VHS. If you use it you will not get code from the tape. Instead FCP will lay it's own code and as I said before, it will have no relationship with the TC from the tape.
Once again, the easiest way to set up a program is to choose the EASY SETUP that matches the footage you shot. Now that you know it's DV50, choose the easy setup for dv 50. This should set choose all the proper presets for you. After creating the easy setup, create a new sequence and start capturing.
    Good Luck

  • FCP Kona 3 Audio Capture Problem

    Hello,
We're trying to capture 4 channels of audio only through the embedded HD input, using a Kona 3 card on our G5 2.66 Intel Mac with FCP 6.01 from a Panasonic 1400 HD VTR. All 16 channels are coming in even when we highlight or deselect the audio tracks under clip settings in FCP. Do you have any other ideas on how to capture only four channels of audio?
    Thanks in Advance!

  • Capturing DVC Pro with firewire

Having some trouble, hope someone has a solution. I am trying to capture footage from DVC Pro 25 into FCP using firewire. FCP 5 does not support DVC Pro 25 anymore, not since ver.3, but I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the capture and sequence settings to make my own setting that would do it right. I have played with the settings a lot and I continue to lose audio sync. It looks good until about 5 min and then progressively loses sync so that at a 25 minute end of a clip the audio is as much as two seconds out of sync.
I am using a Panasonic AJ-D250 and the firewire card is the AJ-YAD250.
MacG5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   FCP Studio, DVC Pro Deck

As the deck controller (in this case, Final Cut Pro) is cueing up the deck for the 'edit' (in this case, a capture), the controller signals the deck as to what frame/field it's on and the deck responds. This happens with a certain frequency (every so many fields/frames), and the capstans in the deck adjust the speed of the tape so the tape is playing the proper frame when the controller tells the recorder (in this case, FCP) to start recording.
FCP5 changed the number of polls the controller made with the deck, effectively doubling the polling. Most decks respond to this very nicely. Pannys don't, so tech support wrote a plug that returns the polling to what existed in FCP4.
As I said, I don't know if this has any effect when you're controlling the deck via FW. But, if you'll Email me at the address in my Profile, I'll send the plug to you. It's a zipped text file that you'll unzip and drop into /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins folder.
I'm doubtful that it will resolve the sync problem you're having, but you're welcome to it.

  • FCE and DVC Pro

Can FCE only work in the DV format? I have a Panasonic DVC Pro VTR deck with a Firewire card. Although Capture in FCE can see and control the deck it will only capture a few seconds and then I get a message telling me there may be a problem with the data on my tape. This is happening with all my tapes.
Please be gentle, I am new to Final Cut and just finding my feet. Thanks in advance...

I am using DVCPRO 25 and the tapes are all original DVC Pro camera shooting masters. I must admit to only using the front Firewire port, but as I have had no problems with capturing via this port from miniDV tapes or DV format DVC Pro tapes I assumed I would have no issues.
I will do all that is suggested. I have no anti virus software. It certainly recognizes the deck. It sees the deck in System Preferences and I can certainly control the deck, mark in and out points, it picks up the timecode etc. I think one major problem is that I just don't know FCE enough to know what settings are set right or wrong...I think it will take me a while of trial and error unless someone pops up with a 'Setting up FCE for DVC Pro 25' advice list.
    Thanks again.
