Panasonic D-300

Just purchased a Panasonic D-300 camcorder... surprisingly, it doesn't have a firewire connection. The USB cable used with the software that came with the camcorder only saves to mpg format. We have iMovie 4.0.1 on an eMac G4 and it doesn't recognize mpg format and won't recognize the camera.
Does anyone know if there is a special firewire cable for this camcorder? There is no connection that we can find. Alternatively, is there a way to convert mpg files to iMovie av file format or something that iMovie will recognize?
Very frustrating that one of the best rated current camcorders on the market won't work with iMovie...or so it seems. Thanks for any responses.

I have the Panasonic VDR-D300 and have read at apple site for imovie, that camcorders without firewire can drag and drop the video which will be shown as a DVD disc. Video comes in, but audio does not.
I have also used the Pixe VRF Browser EX and ImageMicer VCD/DVD2 software for the Mac that comes with the camera. This also transfers the video, but not the audio.
A call to software manufacturer says that to read audio the file must be transferred as a mpeg2 file.
So.... how do we get it into an mpeg2 format??>?!!
Sorry I'm so frustrated. Another question: Is there a way to just get the video that plays audio just fine with a A/V jack burned to a standard size DVD for viewing on television screens?
Lastly, I put the cable into a PC USB port and the darn thing worked just fine!! Go figure.....just my luck!

  • Panasonic TM-300 Highest Possible Import/Export Settings

At first I thought it was the Panasonic TM-300's recording quality, but when I hooked it directly into my 42" LCD in the living room it came through BEAUTIFULLY. I also see tons of YouTube video's that are supposedly recorded using the TM-300 and cut together with FCE, so I'm certain it's my own ignorance causing my problem.
It could be some type of import setting I have on FCE is causing me to have a grainy image.
*Can somebody let me know the import and export settings I need to use to get the highest possible quality?* I don't care how big the file is when it's done... I'll buy a whole shelf of hard drives if I need to. I want Scorsese like quality...
Panasonic TM-300 has the top end capability to record in HA60i/24p - 1920x1080 - AVCHD and that is what I am using.

"Where are you seeing this blockiness exactly? In the viewer set to 100%? What are the exact item properties of your clips?"
Can you answer these questions? Are you only talking about the blockiness on exported files compressed on YouTube?
You're watching this fullscreen? How big a screen? How big is the exported file? This is very heavily compressed media. Compressed on export and then compressed again by YouTube. Any gradient, like shadow areas, will show artifacting. The second video is really soft, which masks a lot of the artifacting, but produces an image with a lot of ringing around the high contrast edges. It's been compressed pretty well considering the contrast and depth of the shadow. It looks as if it's been purposely black crushed, but that may just be an accident of the lighting.

In EAP authentication we have three main componets :
Supplicant      Authenticator     Back End Authentication server
The WLC acts as authenticator which acts in pass through mode in EAP authentication , accordingly it is not resposible
for identifying the EAP type. You should make sure that you have configured the same EAP type which should be EAP TTLS and also you have identified the same inner method on both server and client.
On the controller you have to make sure that you have enabled dot1x authentication as L2 security measure with any other encrypption-  key management method.
make sure that your RADIUS server supports TTLS,
send me screen shoots of your client config , and what inner method are you using?
what is the RADIUS server brand you are using?
If you want to use your Cisco WLC as the local authenticator ( acting as RADIUS server and AAA client at the same time ) -- good luck ---> TTLS not supported

  • Need advice on Panasonic AG-HMC150 camera format specs

We're looking to upgrade to an HD camera and I was wondering if the Panasonic AG-HMC150 would meet the quality format our client is requesting.  I know its highest bitrate is 21 Mbps, so I'm thinking that it can't, but I wanted to check with the pros here to make sure I'm not missing something.
The client can accpet any of the following:
Quicktime wrapped self-contained DVCPRO HD 100
    MPEG2 >35mbits 1080 60i (59.94i)
MXF (.mxf) Op1a wrapped DVCPRO HD 100
P2 MXF file format (.mxf) (On DVD, Hard drive, or Blu-Ray data disk only)
Would the AG-HMC150 be able to meet any of these?
    Thanks.

It's a great little camera, but I don't think it meets any of these...it doesn't shoot in DVCPRO HD, so it doesn't meet the first, it's highest bit rate is 21mbs (or 24? don't remember) and it records MPEG4 AVCHD so no go on #2, and it doesn't record MXF or to P2...so, I'm thinking it won't cut it for your client. Sorry!
You should look at a Sony EX1R or EX3, or a Panasonic HPX-300 or 370 - those should fit the requirements.

  • FCE with AVCHD - unhappy marriage?

    Hi! Problems with stuttering clips
    +My system: imac 2,2/2Gb Leopard 10.5/+
    +Camera: Panasonic hdc 300 AVCHD 1920x1040+
+Audio system: Protools digi rack 44.100+
I am making a sequence and about ten minute into the sequence on a clip about 35 second long the viewer halts and freezes. I have no idea how to get over this. Please help someone?
It also seem hard to get the right audio speed either a bit to quick or a bit too slow.
FCE seems to make your hairs grow grey beofre you know it. Is it really so outdated that it doesn´t handle avchd or is it just me...?

This seems to be a unique problem. I'm wondering how the Digirack fits into your system. AFAIK FCE doesn't support any third party hardware.

  • FCE Freezes while importing video

While importing video, FCE freezes, usually within 3-4 minutes of capture. I have to force quit. I am using Capture Now. I have no problem importing with iMovie. In fact I've been importing in to iMovie and then copying the clips into FCE to get around the freeze. I have my clips saved to a 500GB external drive and my camcorder is a Panasonic PVGS-300. I have imported into FCE many times before. This is the first time this has occurred and I haven't changed anything in my setup or added anything to the system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    I'm having the same problem.
Yesterday, I captured 45 minutes in 4 minute sections, and spent the morning editing.
It got slower & slower & slower.
I saved all, quit & browsed the internet for a while.
The computer continued to whir for some time.
I went back into FCE & it was back up to speed.
I suspect imminent hard drive failure.
Does anyone have an opinion on my diagnosis?

  • Asking for opinion 2: sound

As a professional musician, I currently planning a video. I use a Panasonic NV 300 (I know, that´s not professional equipment, but..) I record sound with two Neumann microphones, using a tascam interface.
I will then syncronize the various clips. Then I will put the audio together (as I would as a CD) and lay the respective clips over the audio. I know that requires very accurate documentation (which sound clip belongs to the audio I chose). I plan to work with Garage Band (I have already made recordings with GB, examples here: http://web.mac.com/stahlchristian/DuoLaVigna/Klangbeispiele/Klangbeispiele.html
Is that a lot easier with FCE, or don´t the multiply video tracks help over the one track in iMovie06.
    Opinions?

I don't see how multiple video tracks are going to help you here. Multiple audio tracks might.

  • FCP 7 and Pansonic 302

Hi I'm shooting with the new camera from Panasonic 302EN... it's the Pal model..
    I'm transferring through log and capture with the file being 1280 x 720 25fps AppleAVC-Intra 100m 720p25/p50.
When I make a new sequence and let FCP set the settings it creates a Apple ProRes 422(HQ) timeline... everything plays fine but I've got a green bars on the timeline and need to render out for exporting...
Is this normal... my DVCpro timelines never needed rendering unless I applied a filter...
    Cheers

Aloha, I have been waiting for someone to answer this question also.
I'm using the Panasonic HPX-300 with the same problem.
I'm using FCP 7 log and transfer. the file is apple AVC-Intra 100M but what do I set the sequence at. There is no listing for AVC-Intra???? This is why I upgraded.
I get the message "Attention-This clip dows not match this sequence's settings or ANY of you sequence presets. Change sequence settins to match the clip settings.
If I click ok, it makes no difference the timeline has to be rendered, and it's still not AVC-Intra.
    Can someone please help.

  • Import files from Panasonic HDC SD 300

When trying to upload scenes in the Import/Logging area all clips can be seen and previewd. But Status is always "!" and telling: "error - no data".
I suspect the camera model could be too new?
Anyone with the same camera and it works? Upgrade to 4.0.1 was OK.
    Thanks for any help.

I checked many discussions but see no solution for that issue. I tried the apple intermediate codec in the easy settings - no effect.
??? maybe its an easy mistake - but which one?

  • Trouble importing photos from Panasonic camera

I'm getting error messages when attempting to transfer photos from my Panasonic camera to my Mac. Details:
    * Running Lion 10.7.4 on MacBook Pro
    * iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2
    * Brand new Panasonic DMC-ZS20
    * SanDisk 4 GB SDHC card, which I formatted using the camera function when I first installed it
This was my first weekend with the camera and I went out and shot 300+ photos. Used the USB cable that came with the camera to hook it up to my MBP. On the camera screen I selected the "PC" option. Camera disk appeared on my desktop and iPhoto loaded. iPhoto recognized the camera and displayed all the photos correctly. The problems happened when I tried to import them. I selected "Import All" and the first few 4 or 5 imported OK, and then it just hung there (little spinning circle and one photo file name displayed). Finally after a few minutes, I got the error message "The disk was not ejected properly" even though I hadn't touched the camera or cable. Photos that managed to import were fine - no corruption. Steps I took to trouble-shoot:
    * Tried reconnecting to iPhoto and this time importing them one at a time. This worked for a few and then again, it go hung up. Thinking there might be an issue with one particular photo being corrupted, I tried different photos from different parts of the disk. There seemed to be no pattern to the issues. A photo would hang one time, but then import fine the second.
    * Thinking it might be an iPhoto issue, I quit iPhoto and just tried to drag photos from the camera disk directly to a folder on my hard drive. I was able to open the camera disk and locate the photos (file names were like P1000150.JPG). But the same things happened when I tried to copy them to my hard drive -- a few would copy and then it would get hung up. I got system error messages -36 and -43.
    * I tried restarting my computer and restarting my camera.
    * At one point my camera got so "confused" that it wouldn't turn off, or even recognize that I had unplugged it. I finally had to take the battery out to reset it.
    * Thinking it might be an issue with a faulty SD card, I loaded the card into my printer's card reader and was able to transfer all photos without any problems. Photos look great.
    * In a possibly related issue, I tried to load the GPS data from the CD that came with the camera to my SD card, but it the GPS data would not load. Even though the card was empty (this was the day I got the camera, before I took photos) it kept telling me it needed 1.6 GB of space and I only had like 45 MB available… I'm typing these numbers from memory, not sure they are exactly right, but the point is that I had an empty 4 GB card and there should have been plenty of room.
So, is there anything else I can try here? Has anyone else had problems with Panasonics and Macs? Could it be an SD card issue, even though it worked fine in the other card reader? Or do I have a defective camera and need to send it back?
    Thanks,
    Jill

I finally figured out the source of my problem. I (foolishly) was connecting the camera to my computer through a USB hub. Turns out the hub was the problem. When I connected the camera directly to my computer, it worked just fine. Just figured I would post in case anyone else has the same issue.

  • How to convert Hi8 to iMac? Have 2 video cameras: Sony CCD-YRV98 video Hi8 and Panasonic SDR-SW20 digital video. Please provide the steps to convert to iMovie '11. Also, is there a way to burn in blu-ray?

I already have two video cameras. One older (Sony) in Hi8 and the less older one (Panasonic) which is digital. Between the two can it be accomplished to transfer the Hi8 video on tapes to iMovie?
I have the newer iMac 21.5" and also would like to know if it is possible to record this on blu-ray. The iMac didn't come with iDVD, which means I have to get that uploaded. Any other suggestions?

    Sony Hi8 camcorder
No it is an Analog Camera - and have NO Digital-Out
I may be made a Wrongful assumption in that the - Panasonic digital camcorder - was a Digital 8 Camera.
If it is - it has a Digital Out (FireWire) and can playback the Hi 8 tapes from the other Camera.
If it is a miniDV Camera - it also have a FW-out (Digital out) - BUT can not play Your Hi 8 tapes.
Then there are not so many ways to do this.
If Your Panasonic digital camcorder - Has Analog in RECORDING ( not all have this, it was an EXTRA Cost ! ) - Then You can playback from the Hi 8 Camera to this and record onto a miniDV tape - to be played and Captured/Imported into Your Mac.
The Panasonic digital camcorder - Might have a feature - Play trough - that makes it possibly to use it as an Analog - Digital bridge - some can do this - But You've not told the exact type/no: etc - So I can not guess.
If this still do not work (The Panasonic digital camcorder do not have an Analog in connection/function)
    - Then You need an Analog/Digita Converting box - from Hi 8 to this A/D-box then to Mac via FireWire.
There are several types and prices - I got a fairly expensive box due to that I've lot's of old VHS tapes in even bad quality. And this - Canopus ADVC-300 - has a function - Timebase Correction - that helps a lot in regard to drop outs and Audio slowly going out of sync. I just keeps perfect even over several Hours of VHS-tapes.

  • Recording to laptop from Panasonic HVX through Premiere Elements 8

I'm going to be using a Panasonic HVX200 and tethering it to my PC laptop  (It runs vista, has a 300 G hardrive and 3 Gig of RAM) via firewire.  I have Adobe Premiere Elements 8 and want to record using it so I can get HD footage (720p) rather than having to record to DV tapes for Standard Def quality. I also have a 1T external hardrive that will hold the recorded video (this is attached via USB, I can't recall the specs right now and don't have it with me, so I hope this is enough info).
I have never done this before, so I have two questions:
    1) Will it work? I believe it will from what I've read (I know that Final Cut Pro on a Mac can do it, but I haven't seen anything specifically about Premiere Elements so any confirmation would be greatly appreciated).
    2) Are there any specifc settings I need to use to make sure Elements is capturing the video in the best format?
If further specs are needed to answer these questions, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Kelly

You've got a number of challenges here, Kelly -- not the least of which is that you're trying to edit video from a $6000 professional camcorder on a $75 consumer video editor. You're much more likely to have success with a professional editor, like Premiere CS5, Vegas Pro or Final Cut.
The other challenge is that this camcorder records at a number frame rate in a number of formats, many of which are not compatible with Premiere Elements.
Still, if you're shooting in 1920x1080 30p HDV and you're connected to your computer via FireWire, you may be able to capture and edit the video if you've got your PRemiere Elements project set up for HDV. It's worth a try anyway.
According to the specs online though, the only consumer format this camcorder is capable of shooting at 30i is 720x480 (standard definition) 30i miniDV. None of the hi-def modes are standard consumer modes.
Still, this is predonimantly a DVPro camcorder. And the odds are much more in your favor if you edit its video with professional software.

  • Is Video shot from a Panasonic SD90K Camcorder iMovie compatible ?

Want to buy my adult daughter a camcorder, and the Panasonic SD90K is on my short list.   But I would like to make sure there are no gotchas with using the video file format in iMovie.   That woud be a deal breaker and if there were, I'd move to plan B.   Anyone using a SD90K camcorder ?   Thanks.

Forest, I tried your suggestions, but still no luck downloading. iMovie searches for the camera, but can't find it. I'm getting concerned that the GS500 is not compatible with Macs. Any other ideas?
    Hi Jek
    1. Camera turned off - connect firewire to Mac and
    camera.
    2. Open iMovie and create a name for your clips.
    3. Be sure cam is set on playback -NOT PC mode
    4. Turn on cam. At this point your Mac should
    recognize your cam and will
show in the iMovie screen as "ready to capture",
    or words to that effect.
. Use the on screen controls to start the capture
    process. The computer will
    control the camera.
ur Mac captures the video in real time, meaning that
if your total clips are 45 minutes of tape, it will
take 45 minutes to capture to your Mac. Hope that
helps you. Nice cam, by the way. Lucky are those of
us that got one before Panasonic discontinued it and
dummied down their consumer line of miniDV cams.

  • WILL FCP 7 Recognize older camcorders like Panasonic PVGS120 for capturing?

I wanted to find out if FCP 7 has the ability to read all older camera models. If I can upgrade to FCP 7 (for under $300) and my old camera (Panasonic PVGS120) can be recognized by FCP software/drivers then I will not need to go out and buy a new HD camera just yet. Can anyone confirm this? The Panasonic PVGS120 was a gift and did not come with a driver for mac only PC/Windows. Right now I can not capture my footage onto my mac via fire wire & camera. I have to transfer my tapes to a friends HD camera to be able to import and capture my footage. If not I'll just have to break down and get a new HD camera for footage and importing, either way it's a win-win. PLEASE HELP!!

I own this camera, I just did a test and it works fine with the newest FCS.
All should be well for you!
