Panasonic DA7, worth owning?

s the Panasonic DA7 a good or bad piece to have?  What makes it good what makes it bad?  If this is bad, what would you recommend?

Hi again
Please note that nobody was offended by your posts. Actually I hated to see them go unanswered and wanted to place them where you were more likely to get an answer that would help.
Best of luck to you in your search.

  • I finished making an animated .gif image in FireWorks. My question is, how do I convert it into video so that when I edit video, that every video editing program recognizes it? Long story short, How do I convert animated .gif files into video formats?

I worked in Adobe FireWorks to make the animated .gif. What program do I use to convert the file from .gif to any video format: .mp4, .m4v, .avi, .wmv, etc. I want to convert it into video format, so that QuickTime Player plays the video, I can insert it into iMovie '11 and edit, and also insert it into Final Cut Pro X and edit video.

Thanks for getting back with me so promptly.  It has taken me this time to connect with the proper people to find out the information you requested.
The camera used to film the class was a Panasonic AG-HMC40P, owned by a local cable TV station; they use Kodak video encoding software, and a SD card was used to store the video.   The file extension is .mts, and the mime file is MPEG 2 transport.  He said I probably need an AVCHD converter, and the Mac app store lists 8 of those options, 4 free and 4 for up to $9.99.  He said I'll also need a converter for later plans of posting on YouTube or on the website, and while some of those in the app store might work for the later needs, he knows one app called "Compressor" that would work for the uploading later.  He also suggested I could try renaming the .mts file to .MP2T, but he wasn't sure that would work.
They don't work with Macs at the studio, but I had thought I could have some lessons there in editing, and apply what I learned to my iMac and iMovie.
First, though, I have to be able to see it and review it!
    Thanks again!

  • How do I import/convert video via flashdrive to iMovie on my iMac?

I want to learn to edit the digital video files of some classes I am teaching.  I assume that iMovie is the place to do that, but I can't seem to get the material onto it.  After the editing, I'd like to be able to post portions of it online via YouTube or some such site.  I have an iMac version 10.6.8, Snow Leopard
So far I have not been able to even see the files.  When I inserted the flashdrive containing the digital video files into my iMac, it said there was no app for opening them.  I searched the apps, and thought about trying the app "iVI", but didn't want to spend the $9.99 if I didn't need to. Today I downloaded the free app, "Any Video Converter".  It converted a portion of the material, saying something about it not being able to "parse" portions of it (whatever that means). When I looked at the little bit that was converted, the visuals were jerky.  Perhaps it was becuase I didn't know which "profile" format to choose, and they didn't offer iMovie on an iMac; the offers were for portable devices.  Do I need to download another app, and if so, which of the many would be good for my purposes?
The other question I have is how to get the same information onto my MacBook, which is version 10.5.1 of Mac OSX, Leopard.
I'm so frustrated!  I'm a beginner at this, and it just hasn't been the easy drag and drop I thought it would be!

  • Nokia Poor Technical Support - Beware

I purchased this phone a week ago. I have a POP 3 email account that I connect to. I have 2 emails that I check. I check email on 2 laptops, 1 tablet, 1 phone. I found after a week that the Nokia 928 was deleting the emails from the server and that I could not get those emails once deleted on my other devices. (My 3 year old HTC Droid did not do this) I called Verizon service who sent me to Nokia. Nokia said it was not their problem and sent me to Microsoft. Microsoft said it was not their problem and sent me back to Nokia. I said no, it was a software problem and Nokia said they didn't make the software. I was sent to another phone number in Microsoft that turned out to be "Supplemental Parts" support and the guy said sorry he couldn't help me and DIDN"T know who I should call. Nokia "dropped" the call the first time when being transferred and I had to call back and go through the whole phone tree again. I'm certain the call was dropped by the customer agent because he didn't want to deal with this.
This all took about 45 minutes of ME having to make the calls and get shuttled back and forth. I finally called Verizon back and said I want my old phone back, which they did. I took the 928 back and got a full refund. BTW, the initial Verizon support person opened up the on-line manual, which I already had, and started reading out loud through the email setup section. That really instilled a sense of trust in me.
So, there are three problems here:
The Nokia 928 can't perform a simple years old email setup function
Verizon can't technically support the phone
Verizon is not taking charge of their support and is willing to send customers off to other "vendors". I feel Verizon should have taken this issue, chased it down for me, and gotten back to me with an answer.

Recently I started having the same issues - email being deleted from my e-mail service provider's server by Microsoft phone Lumia 928 & I could not even find the deleted emails under server's trash folder.  I do not want my emails deleted by the phone.
I do not see any recommendations to correct this issue.  Does that mean I need to delete POP e-mail accounts just to keep my e-mail on the server??  If yes then, the windows phone is not worth owning.  To the best of my knowledge this is not an issue created by Nokia.
Currently I found an unefficient  way to keep my emails on my email provider's server but then why do I need this phone if it is nothing but a problem? A Sync issue/bug???
It would be great if someone from Verizon and/or Microsoft could clarify this issue.

  • After 1 hr of music playback, 2 month new, 30gig iPod needs charging

    Hello,
I have a 5th generation 30 gig iPod. I've took it out of its box in the last week of July 2006. Most times, the iPod is plugged in to the USB cable and is recharging. I leave it plugged in even when the display shows that it's fully charged.
On Sundays when I go for a walk, I unplug it and listen to some music/podcast. This walk is about 25 minutes short. After the walk, I turn off the iPod. How? By pressing pause and then holding down the center button (or is it the Playback button?) until the power goes off.
That's what I did last Sunday, Sept 10. Since that time, I haven't been listening to the iPod. Since that 25 minute listen on Sept 10, I haven't used the iPod. And it was left unplugged/uncharged. On Wednesday evening, Sept 13, I wanted to use my iPod to listen to audio. But, behold, the battery was low. As a matter of fact, when I pressed the power button, nothing happened for a few seconds, and then I got the backlit-less apple logo on a black background, followed by the big old-school battery logo showing a lightning.
I don't understand why 1 hour of listening on my new iPod is enough to drain it. What am I doing wrong? Doesn't the iPod automatically power off, even if I didn't manually power it off?

Can you switch platforms on this type of iPod from Mac to PC?
    Yes.
How often do these iPod's have a return or failure to operate properly rate?
I believe that about %90 of ipods are fully functional.
Is it even worth owning this generation? Or is Apple going to release a new iPod generation soon?
Apple will keep coming out with new ipods all the time. I would just stick with the video if I were you.
If it's not worth owning this generation, are there any suggestions for a new and better type of MP3 player?
ipods seem to be the best/most popular, mp3 player out there...but if you want something different, I would suggest this http://auctions.overstock.com/item/33321762
Should I upgrade from a 30gig to an 80gig? Is it worth it?
It all depends on how much music/videos you have, or want to purchase. If you will be loading your ipod full of moves, videos, music, photos etc...then I would suggest the 80 gig. But on the other hand, personally I think 80 gigs is WAY to much space! I own a 30 gig and its awesome.

  • Do the Mac and PC versions of CS5 now offer exactly the same features?

Basically, does anyone know if the Mac and PC versions of CS5 now offer exactly the same features? The Mac version of CS4 misses out on some things.

Incorrect. THe mac version of Premiere CS4 was a total disappointment, missing MANY basic features, AND basic exporting to QT AND
the VAST MAJORITY of transitions and filters which were offered on the PC, and laughable in comparison to FCP. SUre transitions are cheesy, but thanks Adobe for deciding what I want to use for me.
After Effects was about the only thing worth owning in Production Premium CS4 and while I do like that program a lot, Premiere was
a real disappointment and Encore was a total disaster, as in crashed constantly and burnt zero DVDs correctly. I'm so tired of the Adobe forums being a cover-up for their devs laziness but there are other places to trumpet the defects of Adobe. I would suggest the company offer CS5 as a FREE upgrade to those mac users that were DELIBERATELY cheated in CS4.

  • Learning Unix on the Mac

What is a good book to own for someone that knows a little Unix (just a little) and used to be pretty good at DOS back in the day. I want to teach myself Unix and learn all the commands, what book do you recommend? Are either of these books worth owning?
Mac OS X UNIX Toolbox 1000+ Command | Christopher Negus
The Mac OS X Command Line: Unix Under the Hood | Kirk McElhearn

Kirk McElhearn seems to be more of a true Mac-person than the other author. The 1000+ books looks just like the Linux version of the same name. Another option is MacOS X for Unix Geeks.

  • Restrictions apply to copying Font Software -- Indesign CS3

Receive Indesign CS3 Error " Restrictions apply to copying font software for use by a service provider. You are required to comply with applicable copyright law and the terms of your license agreement. For font software licensed from adobe , your agreement provides that you may take a copy of the fonts you have used for a particular file to a commercial printer or other service provider , and the provider may use the fonts to process your file, provided the provider has informed you that it has the right to use that particular software . For other font software , please obtain permission from from your vendor "
Please provide me a solution for this error............

What Ken said, mostly. It says if the fonts are from Adobe you may give them to the printer to be used for printing your job provided that the printer has a license for those fonts, but that if you use fonts from other vendors the rules may be different.
Generally speaking, it is a violation of most font EULAs to give the font to a service provider unless they have a license for that font. Generally speaking this is also generally ignored by most users and many providers, making it probably the biggest violation of software licensing on planet Earth.
This problem is avoided by using a PDF workflow and embedding fonts with the appropriate permission to allow embedding for output. Fonts without that permission are not worth owning.

  • Leica D-Lux 3 RAWs

Unfortunately trying to import RAW files from Leica D-Lux 3 result in a "Unsupported Image Format"...
    Any other noted this?

I found these detailed instructions on how to 'dupe' Aperture to recognising the leica Dlux 3 RAW files (pasted below along with the link to the site) . It was on on MacOShints.com. ... Has anyone done this and how well does it work ?
I havent tried it yet but Iimagin an alternative (maybe less risky) way to get around it is to convert the RAW files to DNG's using Adobe DNG converter once imported from the camera, and then import into Aperture. I'm about to try this - before messing around with the Aperture settings !
This could be further enhances by using the Automator Robot to automatically convert and delete old files on import from CD card. If anyone has already done this, could they possibly publish the automator file ? Otherwise, if i create one, i'll be sure to do so.
Good luch and keep us posted !!
How does everyone find the DLUX 3 anyway ? Mine's just arrived !!
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20061025124051903
Aperture only imports .DNG files made from raw files that were created by certain cameras. Newer cameras (like my Leica D-Lux 3) may not yet be supported by OS X. Other raw-capable cameras may not yet be supported either. This hint may work for many unsupported cameras.
Aperture .DNG importing and interpretation depends on a file called Raw.plist, which lives very deep in your System folder. This file contains information about how to treat the .DNG files based on which model of camera produced the raw file.
Here's how I tricked Aperture into handling my raw photos made by my unsupported Leica:
I downloaded the free Adobe DNG Converter app (ADC) from Adobe's website. Using Image Capture, I downloaded the .raw files from my camera into a folder (called RAWs) on my desktop. I created a new folder (DNGs) on the desktop, and then told ADC to convert all files in "RAWs" and put them in "DNGs". The settings for the converter (available in the ADC's preferences) were:
    JPEG Preview->None
    Compression(Lossless) checked
    Image Conversion Method->Preserve Raw Image
Original Raw File->Embed Original Raw File->unchecked
I imported one of the .dng files into Aperture. It imports, but says that it is an unsupported image format. I looked around the metadata for the Camera Model entry. Aperture lists mine as "D-LUX 3". I wrote that down.
I started up my plist-editing application. You can use Property List Editor if you have it on your machine, I expect. I used PlistEdit Pro.
In the finder, I navigated to System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/ Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Raw.plist and copied (not moved) that file to the Desktop in case I made a mistake. I then opened the original file in its original location in PlistEdit Pro.
I found the entry most similar to the camera I have. In this case, there was a Property List called LEICA-DIGILUX 2, and the Value of that entry was Panasonic-DMC-LC1. This tells Aperture that when the camera that created the raw file is this LEICA model, treat it just like you do with that Panasonic model. The Panasonic has its own Property List with lots of data about how to interpret the raw data.
I duplicated that entry. I then edited the duplicate so the property list is called LEICA-D-LUX 3. You may need to experiment with that name, but the syntax seems to be MANUFACTURER-CAMERAMODEL. Look at the other entries for guidance; note that first hyphen seems to be mandatory. I left the reference to the Panasonic camera as it was.
I saved the edited Raw.plist file in its original location, closed all my apps, started up Aperture, and imported the DNGs without a hitch.
If your camera is totally different from all of the entries in the original Raw.plist file you may have difficulty. Your DNG files might look wretched in Aperture if you guess wrong about how the system should treat that raw data. In my case, I was lucky in that my Leica D-Lux 3 has very similar raw data to the Leica Digilux 2, which is similar to that Panasonic camera.

  • How do you import movie projects from Facebook into iMovie on an iMac?

I have an edited movie project that was 17 mins long on my mini iPad. Because it was over 15 mins long I couldn't share it into iMovie theatre on my mini iPad. So my father suggested to share it to Facebook where (we thought) we could download it from there into iMovie on my iMac. But it didn't work. I put the link onto to my desktop, and from there, I tried to to add the link into an iMovie video tab but a little window cam up and said(and I quote): "This file will not be imported. It is not compatible with iMovie."
    So...
    HELP!
HOW DO YOU MAKE MY MOVIE PROJECT COMPATIBLE WITH IMOVIE?????

Thanks for getting back with me so promptly.  It has taken me this time to connect with the proper people to find out the information you requested.

  • How to update an overlay using a #fromImageObject texture

    Hi there,
I'm creating a 32 bit image in memory. Creating a newTexture() from the image using #fromImageObject, and adding an overlay to a 3D sprite successfully.
What I'd like to know is, how do I force the overlay / texture to update every frame (eg a timer), if I have altered the original source image using copyPixels() ?
I usually do this with #fromCastMember textues via the undocumented "texture.member ="  call if the source is a changing member.image, but I can't find any info how to achieve the same thing with an image object held in memory.
    Much obliged to you experts!
    Richard Smith

    Hi there,
I've found that the answer was tucked away in one of my books all along.
Just set the equally undocumented image of the texture to the texture you have just edited using copyPixels every frame...
    textureRef.image = imageRef
This forces the overlay to update. Thanks to Paul Catanese's superb book "Director's Third Dimension" for that one (no I'm not his literary agent).
As general advice, I'd say this is the ONLY book I'd consider worth owning for shockwave3D work.

  • Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder/blu ray recorder/direct connection?

I just bought a Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder and would like to connect it directly to a blu ray/DVD recorder to burn discs without using a computer.  In the Manual, Canon says it is possible and even sent me an email stating "The camcorder is compatible with any blu ray disc recorder that supports AVCHD version 2.0"  Unfortunately, Best Buy Geek Squad is clueless and Canon ABSOLUTELY REFUSES to recommend/suggest what brand/model recorder I need.  (I had a Panasonic camcorder that finally died on me and Panasonic had its own DVD burner for it.)  Any help out there?  Anyone burning discs directly from your Canon camcorder?  THANKS!

  • How to identify fake macbook air

    hi guys,
i have been using macbook pro for quite sometime an very happy with it. now i am looking for second unit. i cam across a second hand unit of 2013 macbook air. how do i make sure this unit is original? are there any fake product in the market? how do i recognise them?
    regards

You could check the product serial number against the online identification sites, that of course
could be faked. Also, if the computer has an OS X and is able to tell you in System Profiler or
other listing of internal hardware, a regular PC hardware would appear a bit different than Mac.
With the questionable product in your possession or close proximity for inspection, you may
find more information. If you can start it & read the information inside, much more is learned.
•How to identify your MacBook Air - Apple Support
Specifications could be cross-checked with online accessible databases, http://everymac.com
shows builds of Apple product listed and if you use an identify by serial number database, to
see what the alleged Apple or PC-fake isn't or is, that should be easy... Easier if you have it.

If you have downloaded the MacTracker database, it can show you more information on each
model across nearly the entire brand. http://mactracker.ca is a source for this application D/L.
How to find your Mac's model and age? - ASC user tip
Some of these sites also offer visual identification of models, where to look for in-device
serial numbers, some may be hidden or inside; others visible if unit is On, in software.
Hopefully this helps somewhat. Also an indicator may be price. If a new Apple computer or
an iDevice relies on the original owner's Apple ID and their information, it may not be worth
owning unless they transfer it. If the unit has a tie-in to an AppleID and they haven't set it
up for a new user, you may have to take the unit to an Apple Authorized service provider to
have them help set up a new owner (appleID) if you don't know how. -- And take along the
original owner whose ID set up the Mac in the first place, so they can transfer ownership.
A fake product should not need an AppleID or it may have an illegal clone on board. A fake
would probably either be a hack- in tosh or a windows pc that looks like MacBook Air. Or a
copy made by some contractor to look like a Mac. You could look into the Apple site and
check to see how to inquire deeper, in Apple Legal site. Or how to report a fake.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Is the iPhone not so good??

I Read Everyones questions and answers and they all sound like the iPhone is like Crap and not worth to buy....
So i Need Good Feedback on the iPhone.
Because im planning on buying an iPhone This Week!
And now that i read these topics and stuff im really considering it.
and i like the iPhone when i went to go look/play with it at at&t.
PLEASE HELP ME! SHOULD I BUY ONE? ARE THEY TO FRAGILE OR WHAT? HELP.

bear in mind this is a trouble shooting forum so you will see more problems then praise here. Personally I love my iPhone as do the other 2 million sold which do not post here. What you see in this forum is probally less then 1/2% of 1% of the total iPhones sold.
The iPhone lacks a few feartures which can be enchanced with software upgrades, but overall it is by far my favorite phone and well worth owning IMHO. Goto a AT&T store or Apple Store and play with a iPhone and I bet you will fall in love with it...
    Best wishes
