Panasonic Gh4 Raw file support

Any idea as to when the Panasonic Gh4 Raw Files will be supported in Aperture.

No, Apple does not release this kind of information in advance.
There are three to four raw support releases per year, so it may take a few month, until you will be seeing support for that camera. The 4K video may be an added complication.
G5, Mac OS X (10.4.8)
You'll have to upgrade to Mavericks and Aperture 3.5.1, to be able to profit from new raw support.

  • Support for Panasonic GH4 RAW (RW2) Files?

Any word on support for Panasonic GH4 RAW (RW2) files? They load into Aperture (and Photoshop, too) with the dreaded "unsupported image type" alert.

The GH4 comes with a software disc that includes SILKYPIX Developer Studio 4.1 SE for Mac & PC. Installing the software seems to also install the Panasonic Raw 2 Image Plugin. Once the software was installed, I was able to open the RW2 files shot with the GH4 in iPhoto, Lightroom 5 and Preview. After SILKYPIX Developer Studio 4.1 SE is installed, the RW2 preview images also appear in Finder.
I was not able to find the software on the Panasonic web site, so if you are installing on a new Mac without a CD/DVD drive, you'll need to use Remote Disc.

  • How to get GH4 RAW files to work natively in Lightroom 4.4

I want to know how i can process Panasonic Lumix GH4 RAW files within Lightroom 4.4 like i use to do with my GH3.  I have updated camera raw to 8.6 so i can use Photoshop CS6 to process them but i much prefer doing it in Lightroom.   Any help would be appreciated!

Nothing is “free”.  Adding cameras and adding new features is still work performed by people who are paid for their work.  Adobe could ask for more money, just a smaller amount, for every single release even if there were no new features, but they choose to ask for more money only for the new features releases.  You don’t get the benefit of those of us paying for new feature releases forever, only until a new-features release is available.
Adobe could “support” old versions forever, updating them for new operating systems and new cameras, but how would they pay people to do that work?  They’d either need to charge for all those new-OS/new-camera releases, just a smaller amount, or they could charge a lot more for each new-feature-release to pay for those people working on the older versions.  But both of those scenarios are less optimal because there are actually more people doing more work so the overall expense is more.  Adobe’s major-payfor-upgrades, minor-free-updates pricing model is a cost-effective compromise, but it means customers do have to pay, again, every so often, when the consumer has changed things about their own environment, either new cameras, or new operating systems.

  • No camera profiles in development module for Panasonic GH4 rw2 files, imported in Lightroom 5.6.

No camera profiles in development module for Panasonic GH4 rw2 files, imported in Lightroom 5.6.
Only the "Adobe Standard" is shown. In metadata I can see that the camera and lense were recognized correctly. What could be the reason?

The sample GH4 raw file I found on PhotographyBlog does have a lens profile that the Adobe applies automatically without having lens profiles being enabled.  This is indicated in Photoshop CC / ACR 8.x so perhaps LR 6 will give us the same indication:
By comparison, here is what the uncorrected raw file looks like in a raw converter that doesn't do lens corrections:

  • Panasonic tz60 raw not supported in Aperture 3. How to fix?

    can anyone help me?

panasonic tz60 raw not supported in Aperture 3. How to fix?
Aperture's raw support is camera specific. The list of currently supported cameras is here:
Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
Apple focusses on cameras, that are most likely used by professionals. Your camera is an excellent camera, and I wish I had it, but so far none of the cameras in the Panasonic Lumix tz-family have been supported in Aperture.  So send feedback to Apple, that you want this camera to be supported.  You can use this form for a feature request:  Apple - Aperture - Feedback
To be able to use your raw files in Aperture, you could try a few work-arounds:
Use the software, that came with your camera, to convert the files to another lossless format, eg. TIFF.
Or do, what I am doing with the raws from my Lumix FZ28 - download the free Adobe DNG converter and convert your RAWS to DNG format:  Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh, I don't know, if that will work for your tz60 files, but give it a try.
If you have hopes, that Apple will support the camera soon, shoot RAW&JPEG for the time being, and work with the JPEGs, until hopefully the raw support will be released.

  • Sony cameras A7 raw files support?

looking for Sony A7 raw files support for i-photo.

    1. Well that's not actually true. There is frequently a lag between the release of the camera and Adobe offering Raw support. They are often faster to add it, true, but they do not "always" get converters out before the camera hits the market.
    2. I'm not really sure just what this proves, of course. How often do you change cameras?

  • Olympus e-m5 mark ii raw file support missing in camera raw (pse 13)

Olympus e-m5 mark ii raw file support in camera raw (pse 13).
I cannot open an .orf file from the em-5 mark ii even after installing latest updates for pse13 / camera raw.
Do I have to wait for support to be added by adobe / olympus, or can I do anything against myself.
    Thank you,
    Peter

You do have to wait, yes.  The last updates to Adobe software came out in mid-December and the camera was not commercially available until some weeks or months after then.  There is software from Olympus, and perhaps a few others companies that will work, but nothing that will do Adobe rendering, yet.  You could use the Olympus software to create TIFs from your raw images and edit those in Photoshop Elements or just shoot RAW+JPG and edit the JPGs until there is an update from Adobe.
I would expect the next update to Adobe software to have support and it's been about 3 months since the last update so one would normally be out about now; however, I think Adobe is actually going to release an entire new version of Lightroom and the camera-raw plug-in with matching functionality, perhaps synchronized with a new version of PS, and if so there are many more things to get working properly before an update can be released.  It's possible that updates were planned by this time, and there have been too many bugs to get ironed out and maybe Adobe would release at least a beta DNG Converter that understands the new cameras so people can do something while waiting for the main releases of the new software, but that is more my speculation than anything Adobe has said.
Here is what Eric Chan, and Adobe Camera Raw Engineer, said recently, about the prospects of supporting your camera or any newly released camera:

  • Raw file support for HS50EXR in LR4

When will raw file support for the new Fuji HS50EXR camera be added to Lightroom 4?
I noticed the the other fuji cameras from the HS/EXR range are supprted but the new HS50EXR has not been added as yet...can i hope that raw file support for the new Fuji HS50EXR camera will be added real soon?...please!

I suspect it might have been released a bit late for the next camera update version, it really depends on how soon Adobe get their hands on a camera.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Does Not Import Panasonic GH4 Spanned Files as a Single Clip

Premier Pro CC 2014 does not import Panasonic GH4 spanned files as a single clip. I have made a short video that shows the problem with the GH4 footage and it show how the Canon XA-10 footage imports correctly.
Is this a known problem? Am I doing something wrong? It makes the Master Clip Effects in Premier Pro useless because every spanning fragment is turned into a master clip.

    Jim,
I've looked up all sorts of MP4/MOV comparisons on the web ... most conclude that mov is perhaps a bit "safer" on an Apple OS and mp4 "safer" on a PC and non-Apple "devices", but generally list the contents of the two as being nearly indistinguishable. I do realize the Qt has had ... issues ... within the Adobe programs, especially on PC's.
You have any other good info? Always looking to learn from the more experienced ...

  • Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 RAW files support in Lightroom 4

      http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/07/camera-raw-8-6-and-dng-converter-8-6-now-a vailable.html
The above says that Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 RAW files are supported in camera raw 8.6.  I specifically checked before buying the camera.  Everything I have ever read on the Adobe website for some 3+ years said that if a file in supported in Adobe Camera RAW, it is also supported in Lightroom.  Particularly, the above URL did NOT give any warning about the FZ10000 RAW files NOT being supported in Lightroom 4.  I went ahead and purchased the FZ1000, only to find I'm now having problem with Lightroom 4 not recognising the RAW files at all.  I'm really annoyed, as I was so careful to check the Adobe website first.  WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH CAMERA RAW AND LIGHTROOM?????

I do appreciate the many RAW file formats being created by the camera manufacturers, as I have had varying cameras with the varying formats, and so am very aware of the whole business of making sure how those formats will fit into my software.  And, as already stated, appreciate Adobe's efforts to deal with all those formats.
This whole exercise has been upsetting, and there has been some good advice and info provided in this discussion.
And unfortunately, some input that has been a little too technical and not particularly helpful.  I feel that some of the input was a little too critical and didn't recognise that maybe some of us aren't so are highly involved and knowledgeable in Adobe products and the technicalities of how the software works, dot versioning of software, executable coding etc. because we don't need to, and shouldn't have to.  I have bothered to learn Lightroom well in terms of its functionality including matters raised by you (eg making LRoom edits visible in other software, knowing that LR is not making changes to the actual files, rather they are in sidecar or xmp files etc.).  I have bothered to learn a reasonable amount of computer-related info to understand things in plain English terms, such as "to have PShop and LRoom to recognise my RAW files, I need to have ACR.  To have them run on my PC, they must be compatible with Windows operating system version xxx.  For many people, this level of knowledge should be enough.
I have NOT said I expect Adobe to get advance copies of file formats from manufacturers;  I have NOT said that I expect Adobe to support every new camera model immediately.
The technicalities of the coding and whether Lightroom "uses" the ACR plug in or not is not quite so much the issue, and I don't find the statement that "Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plug-in" helpful.  I don't think it's really right either.  Lightroom - one way or the other - DOES "USE" ACR as the ability of Lightroom to recognise files is very much dependent on the version of ACR that you have.  LRoom may not use the ACR plug in as PShop/Bridge in the exact same way (eg for the actual editing of files such as exposure, white balance etc.), but Lightroom DOES USE the ACR PLUG IN.... in regard to the file recognition issue.
And Yes....  I made a mistake.  Somehow, despite what I thought were good efforts to research the Lumix's support in PShop CS6, Bridge, ACR and Lroom 4, I got it wrong.  I will accept that it was my mistake and I'll accept my part in this, but I won't be made to feel that that it's been "totally" my fault, stupidity, whatever.
Thanks to all the people who have provided useful comment and input to my original question and subsequent responses throughout this discussion.  I will indeed now consider options like the DNG converter.  I was aware of the whole cloud thing, and had been thinking I would upgrade in perhaps a couple of years time (for both Pshop and LRoom) - I'll have to consider upgrading sooner rather than later.

  • Support for Panasonic LX3 RAW files in Lightroom  (Windows Vista)

I have just bought a Panasonic DMC LX3 and have upgraded to CS4 on my desktop machine and downloaded ACR 5.2 to support the Panasonic RAW files. I run Lightroom 2.1 on my laptop and Lightroom is unable to support these RAW files as yet. Will Lightroom be supporting the LX3, if so when and how will this support be provided? Will it be a RAW update (4.6 to 5.2, or whatever) or will I need a new version/release of Lightroom?
    Thank you, John Cross

  • Critical need for Aperture to support new Panasonic Lumix RAW files (.RW2) anyone know an app that can handle this in the meantime?

New Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 produces .RW2 RAW files, and we are dead in the water with Aperture.  Dying to see what this camera can do, but have to shoot jpgs for now.  Have tried to encourage Apple and Panasonic to get together:)

I don't understand this. I have GF2 but I assume RW2 files will be the same & they load into Aperture 3.2.1 & I can do everything with them. Just returned for 9 National Parks with 1000's & working on them no problem.
    Are you running latest Aperture?
There are quite a few posts about no support in Aperture for RW2 files but I have been importing every RAW I shoot on Nikon & Lumix. I noticed one for the G3, but people in our camera club are inporting RAW in to Aperture from this camera. I will need to check if they do as I do.
In the Import screen I have Both(as separate Masters) clicked, no probs

  • Support for Panasonic GF1 RAW files

Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get Aperture to work with the GF1 Raw files - is it possible to convert them to dng format then import them?
Or does Apple update Aperture regularly with support for new(ish) cameras.
    Thanks for your help.

I have been using the Bibble 5 pro trial. It is worth looking at for Panasonic G1, GH1 users. Great feature set (lens distortion correction- though not necessary for the GH1, vignette correction, layering, chromatic aberration correction, etc...) and works with referenced files. Navigation within Aperture still slicker in my opinion and not sure if Bibble does the cloning thing....
However, Bibble is light years faster than Aperture with adjustments. Browsing on Bibble is SLOWER than Aperture. (no scroll wheel flipping through preview images as far as I can tell...)

  • Panasonic GH4 RAW

I'd like to know when support is coming for the Panasonic GH4? I just received mine yesterday but with no RAW support I can't use this on any jobs...

Dave, there is nothing you can do to make Lightroom read the raw files from the GH4. Adobe has to create their profile for each and every camera model introduced by the camera manufacturers. This can only be done after the camera has been sold in the market, so there is always a wait before an update is released by Adobe for Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw.
The last update was on April 7th 2014 and these are issued approximately every three months. Have a look at the link below to the Lightroom Journal website, this is where info about new things with Lightroom are posted by Adobe officially.

Quote from the last release notes.
Lightroom 5.4 is now available as a final release on Adobe.com and through the update mechanism in Lightroom 5.  The goal of this release is to provide support for Lightroom mobile, additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.
