Panasonic HC-X900M HD Camcorder

I am looking to purchase a new camcorder and have decided on the Panasonic HC-X900M. In the final cut pro x documentation it says the camera is compatible. But it seems like all of the file types it records in are not compatible with final cut pro x but have to be converted - something I have no interest in.
Does anyone currently use the Panasonic Camera or the Canon HF ÚG10 will work natively with final cut pro x. So I can just go the the import window and import footage right from the camera?
Thank you.

Which brand you choose is down to the colour and do you like how the controls work. Actually do a hands on test drive of your short list of cams. Most of the flagship models are excellent as the competion is tight.
I use a Panasonic 750 (similar model but older than 900) and it's a sweet piece of gear, actually amazing considering the size and picture quality.
The top end models have features that require reading and understanding the manual.
This will make your shooting improve well above the "point and shoot" style. I must say that the point and shoot method using this camera is light years ahead of stuff in use just a few years back, it's nearly goof proof.
The only criticism I have, and it's personal, is the camera is a bit small for my hand.
I use an add on attachment that holds an external shotgun mike and the camera that makes it a much better option for me.
This gadget can be mounted on a tripod as well. My issue solved.

What is the best file converter for Panasonic HC-X900M Camcorder Mts  files for use with Final Cut Pro?

This camcorder records in several ways, including AVCHD2, mpeg4 iframe, and 3d, at least that seems to be the case from a quick reading of its specs.
If you get the latest update for fcpx, it will handle video shot in 60P. That is 10.0.4
Here is what Apple says it supports, and one version of the 900 seems to be supported.
I think the Apple site is a little behind its own software update, as one advantage of the new update is that it handles 60P.
Maybe I am missing something, but I wonder what would happen if you get the latest update for fcpx, and try your card again. I did find that fcpx now supports my sony dslr at 60P.
Here is a thread with one person saying they can now use their 900.

  • Panasonic VDR-D100 DVD Camcorder

    Hi
How to get a Panasonic VDR-D100 DVD Camcorder to work on a mac x 10.4.10

Thank you thank you thank you!
Someone who has managed this! But I still can't do it! I've used Video mode, finalised disc, attached USB lead, set camera to playback mode, open iMovie 08 and still can't import the video. DVD player starts, so I exit it. But i still can't get video onto mac.
Got iMovie 08 this week just for this!
    Any help you can offer?

  • Panasonic HDC-SD9 AVCHD Camcorder and FCE4

    Hi
What are the best settings for using my Panasonic HDC-SD9 AVCHD Camcorder for FCE4. I ma based in the UK so would use PAL over NTSC.
I am looking for the best overall settings for a clean good quality image.
    Thanks for all your help

Thanks - what about image stablization and the other features the camera has.
I'd like it to be a bit point and shoot ideally - also are you aware of any good camera stablization equipment that is compact and not ridiculously expensive for use with this camera - I'd love to get really smooth video footage.

  • Is the Panasonic HDC SD 90 camcorder compatible with Final Cut Pro X

Is the Panasonic HDC SD camcorder compatible with FCP X?

Seems to me that the software on an apple system has not caught up to where it could be for this camera, unless i'm mistaken.
Nor Adobe, nor Avid. Nor any makers of DVD players, BluRay, HD DVD. Nor broadcasters who air shows. Nor web formats.
60p isn't a format that is mastered either. Not to tape, not broadcast over the air, not a format you encode to BluRay or regualr DVD...not a web format. So why you'd shoot a format that you can't even deliver...seems pointless. 1080 is either 23.98fps, or 29.97fps. It is 720p that is 59.94fps...but that is used rarely. But that is the only 60 frame format that has output and airable options.

  • Can FCP log and transfer footage from the Panasonic full HD 1080p camcorder

Hi, my subject heading says it all. But I have read a review of the current consumer HD camcorders from Panasonic that says they have their own codec, and that it cannot be edited on any software but their own, which is not available in a Mac version... the review was a few months old, though, so hopefully Apple have now put in place updates so that we can ingest footage from this camera...
Does anyone know about this? If not, any idea where I can find out?
Thanks very much for any light on this situation!

Sorry if you didn't know about this, but the review says that when recording at 1080/50p Panasonic uses a proprietory codec... I assumed that would be any model they produce that records at 50p.
The review of the Panasonic HDC-TM700 states "The camcorder uses traditional AVCHD compression for every shooting mode other than the 1080/50p setting. (my emphasis)<
If the reviewer doesn't know, how would we? We're FCP geeks, not universal camera knowledge base wonks.
Research the codec specifically and the camera model you are likely to find some kind of hack or workaround. I have two Panasonic hdx170s and we have absolutely no issues bringing in full 1080 from the P2 cards but most of our stuff is shot 720.

  • Can FCE 4 import directly from Panasonic Hard Disk Drive camcorder

I have FCE 3.5, and to import from my Panasonic SDR-H18 hard disk drive camcorder I need to convert from MPEG-4 to DV using MPEG Streamclip.
Can I import video directly from my Panasonic via a USB port to FCE 4, reading MPEG-4 without converting to DV.

FCE can only capture via FireWire.
FCE 4 will only capture DV and AVCHD. It won't capture the MPEG formats used by standard definition HDD and DVD cameras.

  • I have a panasonic SDR-H40P/Pc Camcorder.

I can import the video to imovie but the quality is not good. Is there a setting I am missing? Do I have another option?

What type of cable are you using to connect the camcorder to your Mac? Are you tring to import into iMovie or just drag and drop the movies to copy to your internal HD?

  • Panasonic etc. DV camcorder not recognised by WinXP

    I've finally got this working!!!!!!
I have an MSI-6777 mobo (K7N2GM-IL) with onboard 1394/firewire and by upgrading the BIOS from 1.3 to 1.5, and also installing all of the WinXP patches that I could find on the MS web-site, this now works.
I also made sure that the camcorder was plugged in and switched on prior to turning on the PC.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi Steve
Thanks for the advice but I am connecting with Firewire. I did have suspicions that it could be something to do with the IEEE-1394 driver but cannot work out how to update it. Would be obliged if you can give me some clues.
    Windows 7
I have now set IEEE 1394 to legacy driver but have not tried Premier yet. Will keep you informed.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Any body know why FCPX doesn't support footage recorded in 1080-60P form Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder?, Any body know why FCPX doesn't support footage recorded in 1080-60P form Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder?

Anybody know why FCPX  doesn't support footage recorded in 1080-60p form Panasonic Camcorder HDC-TM900???

I'm trying to decide on a new camcorder between the new yet to be released Panasonic HD-X900M and the Canon VIXIA HF G10.  Currently have a Canon HV 20 which works great, but thought I'd upgrade to newer tech.  Looking at the supported cameras list published by Apple, the newer Panasonic hasn't been tested yet so am unsure if it is the same as the previous model.  I suspect it is.  The newer Canon appears to be good, but spec. say it is only good up to 1080I.  I'd rather have the progressive camera if it isn't that much of a hassle to convert the files.
Thanks for alll your info on this subject.

  • Can't import from DVD-R or DVD Ram media from Panasonic Camcorder

I recently bought a Panasonic DVD VDR-D300 camcorder. The device accepts DVD RAM, DVD -R and DVD -RW media. The camera comes bundled with software from Pixela Corp. that allows me to download media to my hard drive (I am using a 1.33 ghz G4 Powerbook with a 60 GB HD, running OS 10.4.5). The Panasonic camera uses MPEG-2 compression. The hook-up from the camera to my powerbook is USB (no firewire supplied). When the camera is hooked up to the Mac, Apple DVD player opens and controls the camera -playback, eject, fast-forward of the media in the camera, no problem. When I want to import the footage into iMovie to edit, the files are not recognized. Doesn't matter if its DVD RAM, DVD -R or DVD -RW media - iMovie can't import it.
I really like the camera - it's got 3 ccd's and looks better than other camcorders in its class. We've got an 11 month old and the main reason we bought the camera was to make movies on iMovie to show him later on down the line. I've got calls into Panasonic about this, but so far nothing. If I can't get it to import into iMovie, I'll probably have to return it for something more mac-friendly.
Would appreciate any and all input on how to remedy this issue. Thanks!

and here's my original standard answer
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/import dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect your Camera to a DVD-player and copy to tape/use as converter

  • Video Format choices with Panasonic PV-GS320 camcorder

I have new Panasonic PV-GS320 -- I'm doing tests to feed into iMovie Video Editor application on my Macintosh G5. The "Video Format" importing choices into iMove are: DV, DV Widescreen, HDV 1080i, HDV 720p, MPEG 4 and iSight.
I'm confused as to WHAT is my new camera's "image definition" -- Cnet's review says the camera is "Panasonic's top MiniDV camcorder, and the company's only tape-based STANDARD-DEFINITION 3CCD model"
The spec detail says: Video may be recorded in both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios at a frame size of 720 x 480 pixels. -- Does this indicate 720p ?
"Standard Definition" as opposed to High Definition? Meaning "Standard" vs. 720p or 1080i?
It might appear that my import selection into iMovie editor would either be "DV" or "720p" -- but not sure?
Another factor is that I am playing back/exporting the recorded tape out of a SONY player/recorder GV-D1000 via firewire into my Mac G5. I hope the GV-D1000 is faithfully exporting the same highest quality the Panasonic PV-GS320 had recorded?
    Thank you
    Mike in San Francisco

As Thomas says, you need only bother with DV and DV Widescreen.
HDV 1080i is for most "hi-definition" camcorders.
HDV 720p is for some early JVC-brand hi-def camcorders (which recorded 'progressive' instead of the more usual 'interlaced' video).
MPEG-4 is for other devices which record (usually) onto memory chips instead of tape.
iSight is for capturing video from an Apple "iSight" camera (either an older clip-on camera, or a camera built into a laptop or iMac).
(..And as Karsten says, your Mac will probably figure it out for itself, by examining the first clip it receives from your camera..)

  • Video Cameras  What should I buy Panasonic or Sony?

I am looking to upgrade to a new camcorder from a Panasonic TM700 to either a Panasonic HC-X900M or a Sony HDRPJ760VE.
The reason for the upgrade is because my TM700 will no longer switch off, making it necessary for me to detach the battery after each time I use the camera.
I am extremely happy with the video quality of the cam. but have had other problems with this camera.
If you own one of the above can you please give me your feedback?
I really like the Optical stabilizer in the Sony, but what is the video quality like?
I do hope this is the correct forum for this discussion.

It does not help you solve your dilemma, but let me tell you some of my experiences with service from various companies.
I have used many Sony cameras over the years, a TRV-50, a VX-2000, a PD-150 and a Z1. Even though they were generally reliable, there were some minor problems with every camera, like the accessory shoe getting loose, the mic holder getting loose, the tape transport needed cleaning, simple stuff like that, but Sony was always very expensive and took their time. At least 6 weeks turn-around time. So I looked elsewhere and found an ex-Sony employee, who was a worldwide acclaimed Sony Certified Expert Service Professional and had the papers to support it (he got this title at Sony HQ in Tokio), who started his own service repair shop. His turn around time was usually less than a day, you made an appointment, went to his shop, got a very warm welcome and a cup of coffee, while he investigated the problem, explaining every step as he went along and watching him do his work. After everything was repaired, the bill was always a nice surprise and the duration of the repair was always very short. If a new part was required, he had direct access to the European supply center in Belgium, so instead of ordering through Sony Netherlands, he got the parts much faster. I went to him even if I had no problems periodically for a yearly check-up of my equipment, like you do with your car.
He not only serviced Sony, but also Canon, Panasonic, JVC, Ikegami, etc. and had among his clients several broadcast companies.
I'm pretty sure there must be people like this guy in Australia as well but you may have to rely on other Aussies to give you a hint here.
I have a Canon XF300 now, bought in New Zealand (Global Media Pro) and shipped from Hong Kong that developed problems with the EVF, a rather common problem with the XF range. I contacted Canon Europe, the camera was picked up by courier, repaired and returned within 10 days, all under warranty. So, obviously Canon is more lenient than Panasonic in their service, but maybe that also has to do with the positioning of the XF range of cameras.
I hope you get some hints on who might be able to help you out locally.

  • Win 7 fails to detect Panasonic NV GS 27

    Hi guys...
I have been using my Panasonic NV GS 27 Camcorder for long. But couple of months back it had gone wrong and I repaired it with a technician.
But now it is  detected in my edit terminal in a strange fashion and not at all detected in the edit software capture section (with Win 7 32 bit). Surprisingly, I used it with a different terminal (with Win XP) and there it worked fine.
When I checked the device and printer section, it shows "Team H2O CLEDX-Generic # 00000001" instead of any panasonic driver. The camcorder is otherwise fine. I kind of use it for capturing.
Anybody....please tell me...what could be the reason and how to get it operational in my terminal!
    Thanks

Joe: the camera has firewire, USB is for stills and webcam.
Sam: You need firewire to capture footage. If your pc does not have firewire you need to buy a firewire card and cable.
Most likely you need to set the firewire driver to Legacy.
