iMovie HD 6.0.3 says "No camera attached" when I hook up this camera. Is there a compatability problem or what? Thanks.

Do you have any later versions of iMovie, 09 or 11?
If so import into one of these, 08 may work as well.
Your event should now contain AIC files.Now import into HD 6.0.3 these AIC files.
I have read that iMovie does not support 1080 50/60p, so be aware of this.

Hello,
I purchased recently a Panasonic HDC-TM900 and, although I can import and edit the footage in iMovie '09, the quality of the DVD created is pretty poor. Is there any way to get HD quality on a DVD? What can I use?
I had an older Sony Digital8 and was using iMovieHD. I was hoping that with the new camera I would get a better quality.
Any input is much appreciated.

No this doesn't give a better result.
A. There are no HD-DVD at all (just academic and needs special Toshiba player to be viewed). DVD is as Standard SD-Video
B. iMovie'08 to 11 - is not the tool to use as they discard every second line in Export to iDVD (What ever way used - no 100% work around)
Better is to use iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut as they deliver full interlaced video to iDVD and 100% quality.

Can anyone help with this?

If you have not done so already, I recommend updating Final Cut Pro X to 10.0.5.
And if that doesn't work, download the following applicaton (FREE) and use it to convert your footage to Apple ProRes, or another compatible video coded/format...

How do you download SDHC files from Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder to a MAC

i bought a panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder. when i try to download files from the SDHC memory card, i only see
a still photo and it appears i cannot download files onto my MAC. the manual for this camcorder tells me that
i cannot download files from a SDHC memory card except onto a PC. however i am in a remote area and i do
not have access to a PC--only a MAC laptop.

I am also new to Firefox. From Firefox start screen click the add-ons icon. In the search box at top right type in " music downloads " and click the magnifying glass - many options will appear by clicking on the blue " more " of each option you will receive additional info. Hope this helps, I have used the Flash Video Downloader add-on with great results.

AVCCAM Importer with FCPX and Panasonic HDC-TM900

Has anyone tried the new AVCCAM Importer from Panasonic with Final Cut Pro X and a Panasonic HDC-TM900 with 1080p video?
I have just started reading all of the posts on issues with TM900 and Final Cut Pro X with 1080p video and was hoping the new plugin from Panasonic may have helped!
My concern is the download only references Final Cut Pro and Quicktime 7.

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro which has Quicktime 10 and was hoping to buy FCPX but won't if I can't import my video properly.
I was even willing to go through a conversion process but in looking at all of the board posts, it seems that for the Panasonic TM900 with 1080p video, there are not any programs that will convert properly, i.e. one puts a green screen every second or there is video artifacts.
If the new plugin "AVCCAM Importer" does not help with the TM900 / 1080p video in FCPX, what alternatives do I have to edit HD 1080p video on my Mac??
Is there a conversion tool that has fixed the issues mentioned above or is there another video editor that will import the .mts files natively?
I don't want to go back to my PC if I can help it and I don't plan on making a feature film, just editing home videos onto Blue-ray as I used to do on my PC with Pinnacle Studio.

MBP doesn't recognize Panasonic HDC-TM900

My MBP doesn't recognize Panasonic HDC-TM900 videocamera. I tried to connect both devices through an USB cable, but the camera is not recognized by the computer, no trace of the camera in System Profiler or Disk Utility. What should I do to solve this problem? Any tip welcomed.

It's very possible that the card was not formatted properly inside the camera or you are recording in 1080p60 (or 50) and your editing software does not recognize that format.

Elements 11 cannot see my Panasonic HDC-TM900 camera; Windows 7, 64-bit; neither could Corel Video Studio Pro X4 but Windows Live Movie Maker can. I've rolled back the IEEE 1394 controller to the 1394 OHCI legacy driver as recommended elewhere but still no joy

Steve's advice and knowledge is unsurpassed. But, I don't think he has a Panasonic AVCHD/1080p60 camcorder. Maybe I can add a little to the mix by explaining how I do it with PrE11. It also worked with PrE9 and better with PrE10. PrE11 added a little that makes it the best of the three.
I have a near twin to your camera (SDT-750), Win 7, Pre-11 and HDWriter.
My choice is to use HDWriter to move the files from the camera. It works equally well with the camera connected with a USB cord or inserting the SD card in the computer. I like it because it does a good job of organizing a file structure, provides quick preview and "lossless" cliping and joining. It also has some other useful features, but falls far short of PrE11 when it comes to making videos with some creativitiy.
After HDWriter moves the files to the computer, I backup to an external HDD and then reformat the SD card in the camera.
HDWriter's functions require some small accessory files that PrE11 does not use. The big ones that end in .m2ts are the ones you want for PrE11. You can leave them where they are and they will be undesterbed by PrE11. For major projects I put copies of the .m2ts files I want in a folder named for the project and tell PrE11 to keep the project files there too.
In PrE11 I do as Steve shows in his video, which is Add Media>Files and Folders.
I don't use the Elements organizer at all. All formats the Panasonic camera produces, including the 1080p files, are handled well this way.
You have a very good camcorder and PrE11 isexcellent software. But, I don't think I would use PrE11 to open files on the camcorder without getting them moved to the computer first.

PS: If you have no use for the unique functions of HDWriter, you can copy just the .m2ts files with Windows Explorer and put them anywhere you want.

HT5148 I wish to purchase a Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder - will I have any problems with FCPX

It is my intention to buy a new camcorder and am thinking of a Panasonic HDC-TM900 but I have read is some of the reviews that there are some problems in downloading into FCPX. Is this camera a good purchase or is there a better alternative at around £650. (in uS dollars I would guess at about $1000)

I have a similar model and it works OK with FCP X.

Panasonic HDC-TM900 issues with Mountain Lion.. Not compatible??

Hi, I can't see any of my video files I recorded onto my camcorder once plugged in via USB. I have a Panasonic HDC-TM900. It work fine before I updated to Mountain Lion.
When I plug my HDC-TM900 camcorder into my MacBook Pro, all the files on the camera Memory and SD card could be seen. All I did then was copy and paste the MTS files from either the Camera Memory or SD card to my desktop and convert them in iSkySoft. ( this all worked fine before I updated to Mountain Lion.
I tried plugging in the Panasonic into my iMac and MacBook this still run the older OS and all the files can be seen with no problem.
So I have concluded that it could only my an issue with Mountain Lion that it does not see or pickup certain files off my Panasonic camcorder
Can someone help ? I am very desperate to find answers.

I can't tell you why, but I can tell you that Apple published the list of supported hardware on its website quite a while ago. The oldest MacBook Pro model that supports Mountain Lion is the Mid/Late 2007 model. You have the late 2006 model.

I have a Panasonic HDC-SD900 - when I'm in iMovie I don't see any of the clips I've filmed in AVCHD format - which is most of them. How do I see them in order to download them?

Yes. Every time you transcode a clip there are some approximations that must be made.
Since your original footage is a heavily compressed format to begin with, it remains to be seen if using Streamclip will make it look worse.

The newer Canon appears to be good, but spec. say it is only good up to 1080I. I'd rather have the progressive camera if it isn't that much of a hassle to convert the files.

It is not about a slow computer (míne is new and fast) or an apple computer (I use windows 8) but it's about video quality and editing usability. Down under are the specifications of my camera, you can see the panasonic has different options and the MOV 50p had better quality (because of the higher bitrate), it is easier to use then the highly compressed AVCHD with video editing and I can use it also on a MAC (if I would like to). That is because I use MOV (and professionals like it too). So I need a MOV 50P setting and nog the AVCHD setting (I already installed the AVCHD setting as described above). It is true the panasocic is new and it is not very common in the consumer market to use MOV (most camcorders use AVCHD indead) and most DSLR don't have the 50p resolution yet it is still rare these days.
I hope there is anybody with a solution (I wish someone good give me a MOV 50p setting for PE11 and I'm happy!)

One of the beauties of Non Linear Editors is that at final output rendering, it goes to the source. It is not rendered twice.
The single most confusing subject I've run into trying to learn editing is how this works. Here is what I think happens.
First, you have to have a project setting that accepts your source files so that you can work in real time preview with smoothness. The computer is doing "real time project rendering" for preview. So, if Ann's suggestion works during the editing process, you're fine. In other words, you may not NEED an exact match between your source footage and your project preset. Let PrE pick the best it can when you slide the first clip to the timeline.
Second, when it is time to make your final product(s), you set the "output render" or "transcode" setting in the Share+Publish area. You might need something optimized for YouTube, an iPhone or Hollywood. The editing software then looks at what you have been doing in real time, goes to all the markers and transitions you have set and makes an entirely new file, the "video", by reading from your 50Mbps source files.
Somewhere here there is a long post from an Adobe tech who tried to explain it to me. He emphasized that there was some relationship between the project setting and the output files, but the most important part was the output settings.
In the Share+Publish section there are a lot of presets. For some you can change the frame rate and bit rate. You should find something pretty close.
Your GH3 is so new, I've read little about it. A 50 Mbps rate is twice what we've had at the consumer level for the last few years. Have fun with that camera!

I'm having trouble importing video from my panasonic hdc-tm900 into iPhoto.

it used to work fine (at 1080p/60) and when i plug it in to the computer it shows the older videos i have already downloaded, but not the new videos. they are all 1080/60. I'm running a new macbook pro with mavericks. i believe this is the first batch i tried to download with mavericks... i can only load the videos in one bunch ono the desktop and open them with quicktime, but can't export or import to iPhoto. curious!

What version of iPhoto do you have?
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Try to import some videos from the camera and the Desktop to test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

HDC-TM900 with PE10

I recently purchased a Panasonic HDC-TM900 and I'm trying to figure out the best way to edit footage shot on this camera.

Since it was from September 2011 I thought I'd raise the question again as I am guessing someone has a good system in place by now?
I've installed a trail version of PE 10 as far as I can see the best match project settings are one of the following for the 1080p/60 footage:
1. AVCHD > Full HD 1080i 30
or
2. Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorder > HD 1080i 30 (60i)
However both of these are interlaced rather than progressive.
Using option 1 if I drop the 1080p/60 footage into the project the playback window is good - not perfect but acceptable.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you know anything about the recording modes of the TM900?
I've read the manual from cover to front and it doesn't explain the details of the modes at all. As far as I can figure the following are available:
HA1920
HG1920
HX1920
HE1920
iFrame
It seems that HA is the higest quality but does not explain anywhere the difference btween the various H modes. Would I be correct in guessing that:
HA1920 = 1080/60i
The modes above are selected from the menu system. There is then a 1080/60p button on the camera itself which I guess is the same as HA1920 but progressive rather than interlaced? I think to have a sperate button on the camera for 1080/p recording is bad design which confuses matters - why not just have all the modes selectable in the same place?
Am I correct in saying that 1080/p recording is AVCHD?
