Panasonic .RW2 files

Is there a way to read Panasonic .RW2 files in Photoshop CS4?  I've tried all of the Camera raw plug-ins to no avail!

What camera model?
If it came out after the last CS4 Camera Raw update, you'll either need to download and use the free DNG Converter app or update to CS5 or use the software that came with your camera.

  • How to convert Panasonic *.RW2 files from a Lumix FZ200 camera?

I have installed DNG Converter 7.3 under Windows 7 (64 bit) but DNG does not recognize those files.
    Is there a solution?
Does adobe plan to upgrade DNG converter to include such unsupported files?

    Greetings,
I'm also having a problem with files from the FZ200. I can successfully convert the RW2 files to .DNG using the converter. However, when i try to import the new .DNG file into GIMP 2.8, it is imported at 256x192 pixels. it is still 11mg or so, but the resolution is poor. Does anyone know how to import converted RAW files into GIMP?

  • CS4 won't read Panasonic RW2 files

kb408037 indicates this is a known problem and suggests manually installing the Camera Raw 5.2 update. The problem is I'm using Windows and the only manual instructions are for Mac using a dmg file. There doesn't appear to be a Windows equivalent download file (.msi?) for manual update.
Can anyone suggest a way to manually update on Windows?
    Thanks much!

  • Lightroom 3.6 with Panasonic RW2-RAW

    Hi,
is there any possibility of identification for Panasonic RW2-Files made with the Panasonic GF5 camera by Lightroom. At the moment I am using the version 3.6 and in reality I wanted to wait a bit more time with an upgrade. If it is garanteed that my RW2-Files are identified and there is no other oportunity I am thinking to make the Upgrade soon.
Thank you and with best regards

  • Camera Raw CS4 5.2 Update/Panasonic LX5 .RW2 Files Won't Open

Hi, recently purchased a Panasonic LX5 that shoots raw using the .rw2 extension. Tried importing into Camera Raw via Bridge, but couldn't get it to open. Read around and discovered that Raw needs to be manually updated to 5.2 and some profiles need to be installed (which I've done). Went to the Adobe download section and followed the directions for installing on a mac (OS 10.6.8) - when I open up other files it reads Camera Raw 5.2 at the top. However, the Panasonic LX5 files still won't open. Did some more searching and I've read that everything from the "files will open without problem" to "they need to be converted using a .DNG converter." So, I'm confused; am I doing something wrong? Is there an additional step I'm missing to the 5.2 update? Do I just need to download the .DNG converter and use that? Any help is appreciated.
    I'm on:
    Mac 10.6.8
    Running CS4

You should probably update all the way to Camera Raw 5.7, which was the latest update for Photoshop CS4.

  • Are there tips for editing RW2 (Panasonic RAW) files in Lightroom?

When editing RW2 fiels, I find that the colors are flat and I'm having a hard time recovering details, even when I auto-bracket and combine images with the HDR tool. I think I had better success with JPG images from an older Lumix camera I owned than I am with the RAW files from this camera (Lumix DMC-FZ200).
I also have a Canon DSLR, and LR works beautifully with these RAW images. Not sure why there is the problem with Panasonic's RAW files. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to optimize RW2 files for use in LR?

Lr uses Camera Raw internally for processing raw files.
You create renditions by editing raw images in develop mode until you are satisfied, and then exporting those renditions.
If you mean you want access to proprietary NEF settings placed in the raw image by the camera or Nikon software... this is not possible. You can mimic some of the settings with camera profiles and presets, but Lr (like most software) does not have (complete, unfettered, unencumbered) access to proprietary image details.  Adobe uses the public Nikon SDK to get access to the encrypted WB information.

  • No camera profiles in development module for Panasonic GH4 rw2 files, imported in Lightroom 5.6.

No camera profiles in development module for Panasonic GH4 rw2 files, imported in Lightroom 5.6.
Only the "Adobe Standard" is shown. In metadata I can see that the camera and lense were recognized correctly. What could be the reason?

The sample GH4 raw file I found on PhotographyBlog does have a lens profile that the Adobe applies automatically without having lens profiles being enabled.  This is indicated in Photoshop CC / ACR 8.x so perhaps LR 6 will give us the same indication:
By comparison, here is what the uncorrected raw file looks like in a raw converter that doesn't do lens corrections:

  • Problem with DNG conversion of Panasonic FZ-200 .RW2 file?

When I convert a Panasonic FZ-200 .RW2 raw file using DNG Converter 8.6 on Windows 8.1 64 bit, I get a warning from ExifTool of "Invalid DistortionInfo."  Looking at the ExifTool source code, this happens when the length of the block containing the distortion information is not 32 bytes in length (which it is in the .RW2 file).
This indicates to me that the DNG converter is not correctly rewriting some of the metadata correctly.
Can anybody else reproduce this, and is this the proper forum for reporting this problem?

I am seeing the same thing, both with the standalone DNG Converter 8.6 and DNGs saved from ACR 8.6:
My question would be whether the DistortionInfo is supposed to always be 32-bytes according to some current standard or if there is somewhere else in the file that says how long the DistortionInfo area actually is so it's fine that it's not 32-bytes.  I mean is the DNGC doing something wrong or is EXIFTool too inflexible.

  • Does CS6 or Elements 11 camera raw plug-in support the panasonic raw file format rw2

Hi- I am thinking of upgrading to either one of these products as my current versions do not appear to support the panasonic raw file format rw2 but would like to know if the latest versions do support this format before I buy.

Note that CP's correct answer implies the fact that each individual camera model must be supported by ACR.  You can't go just by the format alone.  "RW2" alone is meaningless.  Bear this in mind when you move to a newer camera.  Check the ACR compatibility list first:

  • Support for Panasonic GH4 RAW (RW2) Files?

Any word on support for Panasonic GH4 RAW (RW2) files? They load into Aperture (and Photoshop, too) with the dreaded "unsupported image type" alert.

The GH4 comes with a software disc that includes SILKYPIX Developer Studio 4.1 SE for Mac & PC. Installing the software seems to also install the Panasonic Raw 2 Image Plugin. Once the software was installed, I was able to open the RW2 files shot with the GH4 in iPhoto, Lightroom 5 and Preview. After SILKYPIX Developer Studio 4.1 SE is installed, the RW2 preview images also appear in Finder.
I was not able to find the software on the Panasonic web site, so if you are installing on a new Mac without a CD/DVD drive, you'll need to use Remote Disc.

  • .RW2 Files from Panasonic G1 Not displaying properly

I have just downloaded the trial version of Aperture 3. I imported several .RW2 files on my hard drive into Aperture 3. The files displayed fine until I imported them. After I imported them they are either all black or fuzzy multicolored like old over the air TV static. I had previously important them onto my computer using light room 2.
    Any thoughts.

Similar problems here. I upgraded from 3 to 2 using the boxed disk. Installed and upgraded my library, and seemed fine. But then I noticed the same thing as you - "TV static" pictures. Also, when I tried to find the referenced file, it was gone.
Tried to reimport an image from memory card and it displays as a mosaic of two other images from the project.
I hope Apple fix this soon - not sure which is worse - no G1 support, or G1 support that doesn't work

  • Raw file previews of .rw2 files (in Finder, etc.) on Macintosh?

I know that this is not necessarily a Photoshop question, but it is the kind of issue that Photoshop users might be able to help me with.
I have two computers and two cameras. The computers are both Macs, the cameras are a Canon and Panasonic. For reasons that I don't understand, I can see image previews of the Canon raw files (.CR2) files in the Finder and other programs, but I can see previews of the Panasonic files (.RW2) files on only one computer. Both computers have Creative Suite Design Standard CS4 installed. I just updated Camera Raw by hand to v 5.7, but this didn't help.
I have talked to Apple Tech Support, they said that this was a user application issue--some application installs something that allows the Finder and other apps to display a preview of the image.
Browsing Apple's support forums, there is an indication that if I were to install iLife or Aperture, that might solve my problem (because there is a raw file updater for Mac that supports .RW2 files). But I don't have either program currently installed on either computer, and one can display previews.
Any thoughts on this? Anyone else able to see or not see previews of raw files.
    TIA
PS--converting the .rw2 files to .dng does not help.

hello.  did you ever find a solution to this problem?  i still have this same problem with .rw2 riles not previewing in finder on one of my macs.
    thanks. .j

  • RW2 files don't open in After CS5.5

Hello, I am trying to import or open RW2 files sequences from a Panasonic GH3 camera in Adobe apps (After Effects & Photoshop) on a Mac Pro X.8.3. The Adobe apps do not recognize the RW2 file, they open in Aperçu (don't know the name of this app in English, Preview ?)
Does anybody have an idea ?

Thanks for the feedback. I do appreciate it. And based on it I've just done a few little tests:
Shot 10 RW2 stills on a freshly formatted SanDisk Extreme card inside my GH3.  Put the card in the reader and imported into Lightroom. Closed LR. Opened AE. Tried import.  Failed.
Next, I copied the RW2 files to a folder (skipping LR import) and tried bringing into AE. Failed.
Then I pulled out my old GH2.  Put the card in it and it could read the RW2 files from the GH3 without any problem.
I then shot another 10 RW2 shots, this time on the GH2.  These AE would import as a sequence (after an OS copy from card to HD, I didn't bother passing them through LR).
Now it could be Panasonic has done something funky, in which case bad on them.  But then the GH2 can read the GH3's images without a glitch so I'd bet against that.
Although Adobe claims to fully support the GH3, they clearly don't.  Support in some applications but not others does not equal support.
