Panasonic SD1  blues

So I finally got the camera to be recognized by imovie 08 (I have to restart the computer to get the SD disk to appear) It will look like it's importing then give me an ERROR OCCURRED DURING IMPORT window and I'll get about 2 seconds of a much longer clip. Any solutions?
The video on the imovie link makes this look so seamless. Thus far this has been very clunking and unpleasant.
I noticed when I do a GET INFO in the disk it's ms-dos formatted by camera.

I am quite confused why you keep saying to read your post. If you would kindly read all of mine, I have previously done everything you suggested, as these are the preliminary things to ck out. I did so before posting my question. What is it in your post that you want me to see? I believe everyone with import issues in IM08 knows to try straight from camera, and to try this both before and after cranking up IM08. I think I've made it clear that I have done this. The only update I have here is that I verified that no photos are on the card, therefore no iPhoto involvement here. I have checked for software updates a million times, plus even re-installed iLife08 followed by software updates. Nothing changes. If you have any useful advice, OTHER than to re-read your post, which has nothing in it I haven't already done, I would really enjoy seeing any suggestion you have. I am sure it is either some converter/codec file somewhere or some security setting. But, since I am relatively new to iMac I am not sure where to look other than System Prefs.
Do you have any suggestions? Please don't ask me to read your post again...Perhaps if you read mine, I could get help. I need to get this video on the web, like, a week ago. Another few days and it will all be down the drain.

Greetings -- I have the Panasonic SD1. Import works fine on iMovie '08 (well, except for the audio being shifted right, but from other posts I have determined this is Apple's poor 5.1 audio support).
I just purchased FCE 4.0 and I cannot "log and capture" from the camera. To be fair, I haven't plugged the camera directly into the computer as I stopped doing this a while back. Instead, I have an SD card reader I use that mounts the drive in the same fashion as if the camera was directly connected and it has worked for iPhoto (for stills) and iMovie in the past.
I am able to pull up the "Log & Capture" dialog and can even preview the clips -- that seems to work just fine. However, if I try to import a movie (either by dragging to the queue, or double clicking, or using the contextual menu) it freezes and then very quickly crashes.
Has anybody run into this? Any ideas?
    Cheers mates,
    George

  • Anyone using a Panasonic SD1 - 5.1 question

    Hi
I have a Panasonic SD1 HD camcorder which records audio as 5.1 surround. However I can't seem to get FCPx to import the footage with 5.1 soundtrack. Has anyone managed to achieve this yet.
I did try using voltaic to encode a separate surround audio file but FCPx doesn't like the AC3 format it uses so I can't import that.
I recently moved from FCE4 which was only stereo so it has never been an issue previously ...
    Thanks
    Dave

This guy is using a MacBook Pro, not an iMac, but it gives you a good idea of about what you're going to see. I would assume that the iMac would be a little bit faster, considering it is a desktop as opposed to a laptop. Anyway, hopefully those will give you some insight. In general it seems to work very well considering he's comparing a powermac g5 dual core (a high end desktop) to the MacBook Pro (a high end laptop, but a laptop nonetheless). Hope this helps!

  • Panasonic SD1 AVCHD Import Causes iMovie 08 To Crash

When I connect my SD1 to my iMac, it is recognized fine. Next, I go into iMovie08. It recognizes there's a camera, but as it is attempting to import, iMovie08 crashes ("Application ended unexpectedly"). Any ideas? Last time I had this problem I spent a week with Apple Tech support and it cleared up (they either suggested security changes, or else some setting in disk utility I believe). It worked for awhile and now is happening again.
Any help would be Greatly appreciated, as I have a training video to post to the web. BTW, I am new to this forum and to iMac.
    Thanks!

  • Airport Express as a bridge for a Panasonic BD35 Blue Ray Player

Just put in Crank 2 and it will not play, discovered this problem is due to the coding on the BR disc that is looking for an internet connection and if one is not available the disc plays in a distorted mode.
I have connected an ethernet cable from my co-located Airport Express (that is hooked into the stereo to play streaming audio from laptop) to the Panasonic BD35. On the BD35 network set up I can not get it to hook up.....the connection test fails every time.
Any one have any experience with Panasonic issues of connectivity? My issue is with getting the BD35 to recognize the internet hook-up. Thank you for your time....

    Welcome to the discussions!
Can you turn off the wireless temporarily on a laptop and plug into the AirPort Express to see if you can get an internet connection?
If you have a newer AirPort Express"n" and "enabled ethernet clients" during setup, you should connect.
If your AirPort Express is 2+ years old, you will not have the ethernet functionality on the older "b/g" Express. What main router are you using?

  • AVCHD 5.1 to Stereo Sound Issue on Panasonic SD1

When I log and Transfer in FCP 6.0.1 The video turns out fine, but the Audio the right channel is WAY louder then the left channel after conversion. Other conversion programs do not seem to have this issue. Can anyone help? I am very stuck
Also should I use ProRes 4:4:2 or AIC? What is the benefits and drawbacks to each? Thank you

I have the same issue. Tested also Sony 5.1 AVCHD cams. Same issue. Same 5.1 to wrong stereo downmix from AVCHD cams in iMovie 08.
Reported and discussed with 2nd line support from Apple. Seems to be known issue. They appear to be working on solution.
A workaround: connect a mic to the cam and it starts producing stereo files. These import well.

  • Please help with workflow - iMovie '08 and Panasonic HDC-SD1

My two teenage sons play high school basketball and I've been videotaping their games using our new Panasonic SD1. Picture quality is terrific, but I've been taken aback by how much time it takes to get the footage from the camera into iMovie and then how long it takes to burn a DVD from that iMovie file. I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong and that there's a quicker way to get the job done.
The kids play four periods and I've been stopping and starting the camera in between, so I end up with four separate files on the SD card. Total time is usually an hour and change.
Okay here's the workflow from there:
~ When I get back to my iMac (2.16 Core 2 Duo with 3GB of RAM) I place the SD card in a card reader and import the four files into iMovie from there. Importing the hours' worth of video takes a couple of hours.
~ I then make one project with all four files for export to iTunes so the boys can watch on our Apple TV. Exporting, using the "large" format takes another couple of hours.
~ I then use the same exported file to make a DVD for the coach using iDVD. That process takes more than three hours.
I'd actually like to split out the four quarters of the game into separate menu items on the DVD. My thought was to make each quarter a different iMovie project, but it looks like I can't queue the four exports so I'd have to stay close to the computer to do them individually.
Thanks in advance for the help.
    ...Barry

If you only have 1 file per quarter, one obvious thing to do would be to edit out the time in between plays, the time-outs, and the like. That is easily done in iMovie.
Having said that, importing (and exporting) in high definition takes time, and your times do not seem unreasonable.

  • Blu-Ray audio only through TV internal speakers...not surround.

Just got a Toshiba 50L1400U. Two issues here......
    1) When the HDMI cable from the Panasonic smart Blu-Ray player is connected to the HDMI port #2 on the TV audio only comes from the internal speakers and not out of the surround. The cable box currently functions fine as did the Blu-Ray HDMI connection with our old Toshiba TV with audio coming from the surround. Suggestions?
    2) Is there a way to turn off the bar at the top of the TV screen to not show when it switches between 2 HD screens while changing stations? Meaning some stations are in 480p with most being in 1080p but the bar shows when swtiching between the 2.
    Thank you for any help.

I don't believe there's a way to disable that bar.
As for the sound, you might want to call customer support.

  • FREETALK conference HD camera for Panasonic TVs

would the FREETALK conference HD camera for Panasonic TVs would work with my Panasonic Blu-Ray with Skype built-in?

I would not recommend as I purchased the Panasonic BDT110 blu ray player and freetalk conference webcam combo from the Skype shop and the video does not work on the webcam. I have received zero technical support from either the freetalk manufacturer and was instructed by Panasonic to buy their TY-CC10W webcam.

  • EXPORT to AVCHD?

I have a Panasonic SD1 camera that shoots in MTS AVCHD files. I am able to load them into Premier Elements 7 and edit them but how can I Export them back to AVCHD file to be played either directly on my PC in HD or on a BLU RAY PLAER that support AVCHD. when I was finished I seleted SHARE and I see you can export the h.264 but is that AVCHD format?
    Thanks...

    Hi Dave,
Could you tell me the specs of your computer that your editing on? Wanna make sure my Alienware quadcore can handle editing AVCHD. HAve you had any problems? Do you transcode before you edit? What kind of camera do you have.
Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance.

  • Unable to Initialize video deck, you may still use capture now. ??

Im trying to capture footage off my sony DCR-TRV900. Ive been able to do it before, but all of a sudden i cant. Ive tried all sorts of crap like switching cables, even sending the camera in. I dont know if settings got messed up or crap like that, but now my FCE is just acting weird with the camera plugged in. If i try to start it with my camera plugged in with VTR on, it will just crash. Ive been using FCE for 2 years now, and i really don't think i changed anything preference-wise. The only MAJOR change to my computer has been leopard, and if that somehow screwed it up, i will be ******. I can capture using a different camera, by putting the tape that i used in my 900 into a DCR TRV9. however, it always fails to capture correctly, screwing up the audio and leaving it un-synced. If someone could help me, it would be a life saver, thanks. Also, i wouldn't consider myself a beginner, but i taught myself how to use this program from the ground up, so i might be missing a crucial step.

    Let's start over.
I confused myself by invoking the Capture window. Of course that didn't work.
This was a completely different problem. My apologies.
The real problem was that the Log and Transfer window displayed ONLY the Logging pane. The clip list and queue pane were hidden and I couldn't get them back. I eventually found that resizing the entire window - even a small nudge - restored the missing panes. I expected the pane divider bar to not reveal the clip list, but this doesn't happen until the bar gets at least halfway across the window at which point the pane suddenly pops into view. This also confused me.
For the record, I'm using a MacBook core solo running Leopard. My Panasonic SD1 camera is not connected. The files from dozens of camera cards are stored on an external USB drive. I copy selected AVCHD folders from the USB drive to the root directory of the MacBook boot drive so that FCE will recognize them. The scratch disk is a large Firewire 400 drive also connected to the MacBook.

  • Sequence settings to avoid re-rendering

After importing AVCHD files from my Panasonic SD1 and placing them in the timeline, a full time-consuming render is required. Plus, every cut or change I make requires re-rendering. This implies that the clip and sequence settings are incompatible.
Imported clips are 1440x1080 and use the ProRes422 codec. The sequence is set to 1080i using the Apple Intermediate Codec.
I haven't located a way set clip properties to match sequence settings. Can anyone help?

    Thanks, Michael.
Do you know of a way to force FCE to use AIC rather than jumping the fence and snatching the ProRes codec from my FCP6 install?

  • Using two wrt54gl's for home entertainment network?

    Hey all,
1st time poster here that could use some help!  Right now I have a WRT54GL router connected to my desktop upstairs and then wirelessly to my laptop.
I just a got a new Panasonic TV, Blu Ray Player, and Xbox downstairs -- all of which I want to connect wirelessly.  Can I just get another WRT54GL router and connect all of the latter devices to it via ethernet, and then have the 2nd Linksys wirelessly connect to the 1st one upstairs wirelessly?  In other words, can I establish another wirelss hub downstairs using a 2nd WRT54GL but using the upstairs unit as the signal source?
If not, is there a better solution?  I was thinking an n router wouldn't work without me replacing my WRT54GL with another 'n' router.  But that seems expensive.  Anyways, I'm confused about the best way to hook all of these devices together.... any thoughts/guidance?  Thanks!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the guidance.  It's not really feasible for me to run a cable from my WRT54GL to another router/bridge downstairs.  I've been reading a little about DD-WRT and how that might offer a solution of putting one of the routers in bridge mode, allowing the two units to connect wirelessly.  Still not sure if this is feasible or not.  Can you recommend a good wireless bridge that would work with my router, one that has at least three ethernet ports?  Thanks again for all of your help!
