Panasonic TC-L42U12 questions

Hello,
I am planning on buying the Panasonic TC-L42U12 this next month. Anyone from here has any experience or feedback on this TV?
I am planning to use it mainly for playing videogames (X360 and PS3), some movies (DVD and BluRay) and that's about it, perhaps some sports but mainly for movies and games. Do you think this TV will work good for me? If anyone has any other option on what TV to buy please say it, I am planning to spend $800-850 at the most on a TV.
Any feedback (good or bad) will be HIGHLY appreciated.
Thanks!!

I would check out Cnet.com for reviews and BestBuy.com for reviews as well.

  • Panasonic NV-GS120 question

I was hoping somebody might be able to solve some issues I have with my GS120.
In a nutshell what I am trying to do is download the movies I have made on my GS120 onto my MBP and edit it with imovie.
Firstly the software that came with the product is for the windows operating system latest being XP. I have not been able to find any drivers for the Mac OS X (10.5.7). Is that going to be an issue or will imovie be able to import the video regardless? This leads me to my other problem being that my MBP has firwire 800. The GS120 has a 4 pin firewire outlet just next to the s-video and I was wondering if anybody knows if there is such a thing as a 4pin fierwire connection that goes into the firewire 800 connection in the MBP and if there is such a thing will imovie be able to communicate with the GS120 regardless of the driver software?
    Thanks in advance.

yes there are adapters and cords that will take the 800-400. Go to a camera store and they can help you. My sister in law just did this and brought the camera with her because apparently one cord didn't work.

  • Panasonic GH1 Transfer Question

I filmed a few events in the last couple of days, came back to capture, and FCP is having an "unknown error" while trying to log and transfer the longer clips. One is 7 minutes, one is 12 minutes, and one is 36 minutes. It just will not transfer them, though the rest transferred fine. Any thoughts?

Found the problem. My external hard drive is my scratch drive. It comes out of the box in a MS-DOS FAT32 format which I had noticed was had a file limit on it. AVCHD files are small on the camera, but extremely large when transferred into FCP and converted using Apple ProRes 422. 6 minutes of AVCHD formatted 1080 24p footage came out to a 4.31 GB file once captured. My hard drive was limiting a file that big from being placed on the hard drive.
Just a heads up. Make sure your drive is not FAT32 when you are looking to edit large clips. I am waiting on the exact format, but I am assuming I will need to buy a new drive and format it with MAC OS Journal before using it as a scratch disk...

  • Connecting the UC560 to a Two Loop Start Trunk Line

I just installed a new UC560 and am ready to convert from our old Panasonic DBS 84 system. The Panasonic is fed by 4 trunk lines that go into two RJ14 trunk connectors. so that each is a Two loop start trunk line plugged into the Panasonic. My question is do I need to modify the two lines in order to connect them to the UC560 and if so, how. If not where and how do I plug them into the UC560 and configue the incoming lines so that calls come in and go out similar to what we have now. Obviously I am new at this, so please forgive the blatant ignorance. Thanks I uplaoded the Panasonic manual if it helps.

You would terminate each line in an individual RJ11 connector, and fit them in the ports labelled FXO on the UC500.
Regarding configuration, if you are the end user, and you have no previous experience or certification, it would be much, much better that you engange a reputable consultant, or certified Cisco partner, because the UC500 is meant to administered by such a professional, and is not very user friendly.

  • Create data partition

    Hi,
I've just bought a Mac mini and I'm trying to migrate all my stuff from an old Panasonic toughbook. I've created a bootcamp partition (60 GB) and installed Windows 7 pro. I now want to create a data partition and import all my documents from my Panasonic. My question is the following: what kind of partition is best to create? I've noticed that I could format a partition in five different formats:
    Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)
    MS-DOS (FAT)
    ExFAT
    Free Space
Which one would be best?  I also intend to keep a back up on an external HD. I'd also like to be able to use the files I've previously created on Windows. And, in the future, I'd like to use files created with either Window or Mac with both OS. Would that be possible?
    Thanks

Keep Windows files and OS X files in separate partitions.
The Windows partition should be formatted as MS-DOS (FAT), the OS X partition as Mac OS Extended (journaled).

To resize (or delete) an existing partition without losing data, you will need to use, for example, iPartition:

  • Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage and it is playing back in slow motion?

Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage shot using .MOV wrapper with their IPB 50mbps and All-Intra 72MBPS codecs and they are playing back in slow motion in Sg CC. The footage works fine in PP CC and I have no clue on how to fix it. Is this a bug or do I a have a setting wrong some place?

Yes it turns red this is silly PP and AE have no problem with playback for these codecs. So it is indeed Sg not handling the codec correctly and not my system?
What if I transcoded it to something else other than the previous what would you reccommend?
I was going to transcode to ProRes but 5DtoRGB does not work on Windows with GH3 codecs.
What is the correct time warp seting under clip properties? I screwed with it and forgot the default setting.
Is there a way to reset Sg back to defaults settings globaly. I tried to many settings trying to fix the playback and may have left something in the wrong state.
    Thanks...

  • Newbie - General HD Questions - Plus Sony & Panasonic

I've been a standard definition guy for years, and am thinking of moving to a HD camcorder. I'm a relative newcomer to the Mac, and am using IMovie 09.
IMovie 09 is just the tool - it's the output that counts - and in my case, it's going to be the Apple TV for 80% of my movies, and standard definition DVDs (using IDVD) for the remaining 20% of my movies.
Neither of these things (Apple TV or DVDs) can display in 1080 resolution. Am I therefore still able to use a HD camcorder or not? Will IMovie keep the high-res 1080 footage on my hard disk, and then just convert to Apple TV and/or DVD format as appropriate? -- or am I stuck with 1080, with no easy option of using IDVD....?
Also, if I move into the world of HD, does the time taken to render to AppleTV and IDVD grow exponentially over using a standard def camera? And, is IMovie still a usable product, or does editing etc become painfully slow, using HD high bitrate films? Does the addition of Turbo264HD become a valuable or essential addition?
Also, I find it frustrating that the list of supported camcorders doesn't change very often.
For example, I wonder if the SONY HDR-XR105E, HDR-CX105ES, HDR-TG3E are compatible, in addtion to the HDR-CX11E which is on the list. I see no reason why not, but it's too much of a gamble.
Also, the Panasonic HDC-SD100 AVCHD Camcorder has good reviews, and I think does 1080p (the Sony only does 1080i as far as I know). Question - is 1080p the same as doing 25p? I notice an article on Apple's site about Panasonic's 26p, which says "If you plan on importing clips into iMovie '09, do not use Digital Cinema Mode settings when recording with your camcorder". However, it doesn't say anything about the PAL version (25p), but I'm assuming it'll have the same issue as the 26p. This obviously makes the advantage of the Panasonic over the Sony useless.
Thanks in advance for any input,
    Brad

HD is the way to go -- even with appletv. I have AppleTV and now hardly ever burn any video! I'm working off a new macbook, but your imac is faster processor. I just did a 20 minute video last night-- a combination of DV and HDV with a theme-- I imported on Full and large for a test run. I didn't see much difference on the appleTV for either one. I suggest still importing on full to future proof. Then you just export to itunes select the setting for appletv. It took an hour. No biggie. Output was not as good as my camera, but I can't find anything yet that gives me equal to my HD camera plugged straight to the TV via an HDMI port.
The minute you bring footage into imovie it is second generation even if you output full footage to Western Digital Media Player that can handle 1080p. There is a compressing process the footage goes through...with that said....it's still pretty good! Much better in HD even outputting at any resolution!
Now for the camcorder, find Steve Mullen's posts. He has several on different issues with cameras and codec's. Bottom line: Its best to edit in progressive. However, 1080p 60 you need a mac pro!
1080p 30 is ok. I shoot 1080 60i. Its fine also, but some people are having issues with interlacing!
imovie can't handle 24p-- or something like that.....There are a bunch of threads on camcorders. Do a search on 1080p and see what pops up. Find Steve Mullens post. Click on his name and then you can see all his posts on this topic from various threads! He recommends actually 720 60p, but its very hard to find.

  • Panasonic hdchs900 Question

I had a quick question.  We are shooting a movie with a panasonic hdchs900.  What is the best format to shoot the highest quality movie?  We will be showing the finished product at a theatre and selling it as DVDs.  A good deal of the editing will be done in FCP7.

    Hi
The highest quality (according to Panasonic) is 1080P50 (or 60) I'm in PAL land. so I'll talk PAL for now. The problem with this is that Log and Transfer won't recognise the non standard frame rate,  you will have to convert to Pro Res before importing into FCP.  You then have the choice of leaving the frame rate at the original or changing to 25 fps during conversion, and a further choice of editing 50fps  in a 25fps timeline or in a 50fps timeline Converting to 25 fps later.
Of course the other option is to shoot at a slightly lower quality at 25fps but I think that camera only has the one progressive setting which is the one we've just talked about, I believe all the others are interlaced although 1080 is one of them.

  • Some questions about the Panasonic TM700 1080 60p mode.

    Hey folks,
I've been using the Panasonic tm700 with FCP 7 and it's great for my purposes.
I have been converting my 1080 60p footage with Voltaic and it generally works pretty great for slow motion stuff.
    My questions are :
    1. Since the camera doesn't offer a 30p mode, would I get a higher quality image from shooting in the 60p mode and converting it to 30p or shooting in 60i and deinterlacing the footage?
    2. Voltaic or Aunsoft? Which is the better converter for 1080 60p to Pro Res?
    thanks!

    Message was edited by: smotherparty

    1. You will get perfect 30p from 60p (just edit into a 30p timeline and FCP will drop other frame). Don't deinterlace 60i as a means to make 30p unless you have no other option.
    2. I have never used Voltaic or Aunsoft ... if I had to choose between the two I think I'd probably want to use Voltaic just because Aunsoft (as a brand name) has little exposure / credibility in the pro market. If I could choose for myself tho I'd probably be using neither of those two, I'd be trying Divergent Media's ClipWrap instead.

    I have model series KX TG7641 /w 5 phones....
    My questions:
    1. Can the directory of phone numbers with in my iPhone be transferred to the Panasonic and retain the individual number designations; i.e., "home-moblie-work-etc"?
    2. Can I use the manual select on the Panasonic to selectively transfer numbers from my iPhone?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?
FYI, there are no viruses that affect iOS unless the device has been hacked or jailbroken, in which case they cannot be discussed here.

  • Panasonic sd5 question

i have a panasonic hdc-sd5 that works well imovie08. i do have problems findings compatible sdhc card. i was wondering if people encountered the same problems. so far i've gone through 5 cards (1 kingston 8gb class 6, 1 transcend 8 gb class 6, 1 transcend 4gb class 6 and 2 crucial 4 gb class 6) and only the 4 gb transcend has worked for me so far? Any is it bad luck with cards or is there something wrong with my camera? Sorry, that this is really not an imovie question, just think of this post s another fyi that the camera works well with imovie08.

I really appreciate your help and have found a lot of your other post really helpful in the past. I think I'll try a panasonic sdhc card first, since I do have that 1 transcend 4 gb card that works well with it. I've read in other fora that many class 6 cards are of poor quality these days and I'd like to avoid sending the camera back to panasonic if I don't have to. Additionally, if the panasonic card fails me, then panasonic cannot claim that I am not using recommended card.

  • A question about Panasonic Viera TCP46S2 ,wireless capatibility?

I bought a Panasonic Viera 46" TCP 46 S2 from Best Buy in June 2010. I want to know if I can watch TV from my lap top wireless instead of using HDMI cable? If TV can be wireless, what wireless adapter do I need to purchase?

The TV alone is not equipped for this. If memory serves me correctly, the S2 does not even have a VGA port. You wouldn't want your start menu or icons burning into the tv either, this is why early plasma didn't support a computer input.
Your best solution is to find a DLNA compatible device and share the movies files you downloaded. The DLNA device will then see these files and will basically pull them from your computer. This may also require some 3rd-party software. An xbox or a playstation is also capable of doing this as I've done it before.

  • Anyone using a Panasonic SD1 - 5.1 question

    Hi
I have a Panasonic SD1 HD camcorder which records audio as 5.1 surround. However I can't seem to get FCPx to import the footage with 5.1 soundtrack. Has anyone managed to achieve this yet.
I did try using voltaic to encode a separate surround audio file but FCPx doesn't like the AC3 format it uses so I can't import that.
I recently moved from FCE4 which was only stereo so it has never been an issue previously ...
    Thanks

This guy is using a MacBook Pro, not an iMac, but it gives you a good idea of about what you're going to see. I would assume that the iMac would be a little bit faster, considering it is a desktop as opposed to a laptop. Anyway, hopefully those will give you some insight. In general it seems to work very well considering he's comparing a powermac g5 dual core (a high end desktop) to the MacBook Pro (a high end laptop, but a laptop nonetheless). Hope this helps!

  • Let me rephrase question on Panasonic 1080 HD and fcp settings

I am having issues brining in these p2 cards so they look good.
My clent thinks this is shot on 1920 x 1080 but is not sure
When I import them using DVC pro hd 1080p30 they come out as 1280 x 1080 and all movements show interlace issues
Apple pro ress 422 has the same results
What should by capture setting and my sequence settings be for this?

Panasonic's DVCPRO HD codec, at 1080, is 1280x1080. It is a thin raster format, meaning ANAMORPHIC. Normal Anamorphic is 1440x1080, but DVCPRO HD goes just a BIT further and loses 200 more lines. When you use Log and Transfer to bring in the footage, it comes in as shot...you can't shoot 720 and bring it in as 1080...so if those are your numbers, it is 1080.
Interlacing. 1080 is an interlaced format. If the client shot 1080i 24p...then it is 24p in a 29.97 interlaced stream. But it looks progressive. If they shot 1080i 24pA...that means that it can have pulldown removed on ingest, to get to progressive 23.98. But, they need to have shot that. You can't really remove pulldown on normal 1080i 24p.

  • Newbie Import Question - Shooting 4K with Panasonic GH4

I'm shooting 4K with a Panasonic GH4 and  would  like to know what file format is best to import and edit - AVCHD, .MOV or MPEG4, etc.
    Any guidance welcomed
    Thank you - Ross

    David,
    Thank you for the response.
Yes, I'm a novice and I'm using FCPX because I'm serious about the whole process /craft / art form and want to learn as much as possible and want as professional a result as possible. Good tools to begin with and now working on skills.
I'm shooting 4K and then will be down-resing to 1080 which is what most folks (pros and otherwise) seem to be doing with the Panasonic GH4 4K footage. Lot's more detail in edited video than shooting 1080 to begin with.  Also using 4K to help with when using one camera - I can punch in, use other parts of the frame for close-ups. etc.
My budget is not unlimited but I'm doing this for the business I own and my own pleasure so I'm making an investment in my business and myself. I've been shooting with a GH2 for awhile as well as Canon XF100s. I really enjoy the whole process and shooting industrial videos - instructional, educational, information mainly for my business.  I've paid my dues learning the business that I'm in now and know that education that can jump start the process is really beneficial. The learning curve is a bit steep but I am trying to learn as much as possible from others, my own mistakes and my occasional wins with beautiful images.
Anyone in LA, Ventura or Santa Barbara that shoots with a GH4 and editing with FCPX?
    Ross
