Panasonic .TOD files

I'm interested in using STreamclip to export my files (.TOD files) from my JVC Everio in order to work in both iMovie 08 and FCPE. What format and settings should I export, and at what settings from Streamclip. FCPE will not recognize the .TOD files right?
Thanks
JJS

It's not a preference; it's a standard. 25fps is the European standard for television; it will not play on a North American television set. 29.97fps has been the Norther American standard since 1956, and it will not play on a European television set.

Panasonic .MOV files only play audio no video in Premiere Elements 11??? Not Working Help

It all depends on the codec the file uses, Karli.
What model of camcorder is this video coming from?
Are you working on a Mac or a PC? Have you got the latest version of Quicktime, per the program requirements? When you started your project, did you select the settings for a DSLR at 720p? This is a vital step since it will activate the components your computer will need to work with many of these types of files.
    BY THE WAY, KARLI--

  • Quicktime playback of .TOD files with Perian installed

I recently purchased a JVC GZHD3 camcorder, and have had no problems playing the .TOD files in quicktime until I installed Perian 0.5 which I got from the apple website. Why did does it now say, the movie could not be opened, the movie contains and incorrect duration? Like I said, I never had any issues with playback of my recorded video until I installed Perian. What's the deal here with these HD files?
    TJ

JVC says this:T here seems to be a TOD component/codec one requires, it's free and there's a link (and apaprently on the CD that came with the camera, too)
Can I use GZ-HD7/GZ-HD3 with Mac?
Yes, for playback of TOD file QuickTime can be used if the QuickTime component is installed from CD ROM supplied with the camera. Editing of HD video is possible with iMovie HD or Final Cut Pro. Both of these work with TOD file extension. Also the contents can be down converted from High Definition to DV standard thru firewire (1394) to be edited with older versions of editing software.
Can Final Cut Pro software be used to edit and create a movie (MAC)?
YES. Final Cut Pro can work with a .TOD file. But it is necessary to first install QuickTime Component, this file is located on CD ROM provided with the camera. Then from the following website:
    http://software.transdigital.co.jp/products/cbsev/qceng/index.htm
Setup files for Final Cut Pro for 60i (for USA) needs to be downloaded and installed On the same page there is a tutorial link with individual sections for recordings made in FHD or SP/1440CBR modes. It shows you how to convert the file to either AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec), YUV (uncompressed) format or HDV1080i
Also the Google Gods reveal this: TOD seems to be like QT, or AVi , a container with MPEG-2 inside it:
If you are using Final Cut Pro or other professional non-linear editing programs on the Mac, you cannot use the camera's native .TOD format, which is basically an MPEG inside the .TOD container.
Forget about following JVC's instructions: they are too time-consuming and don't allow batch processing. The easiest conversion method I've found requires two freeware programs: The VLC media player, and MPEG Streamclip, both available on the Apple Website (and elsewhere).
You'll first need to use the VLC player to convert the .TOD into a .TS file, which takes seconds (you are only changing the container format to MPEG TS, not actually changing compression). Once you've changed the .TOD file to a .TS file, you can use MPEG Streamclip to change to a variety of file formats that Final Cut Pro can recognize. Of course since you are recompressing the file at this point, expect this to take far longer than the first step.
Note - MPEG Streamclip requires Apple's MPEG-2 component to edit the video.

  • How to work on TOD files on Final Cut Pro

    Hi,
I can't figure out how to work on .TOD files on Final Cut Pro. I'm using a JVC Everio HD40 camera. None of the sequence presets work. Is there a plug-in or something else I could try?
    Thanks for any help!

.TOD is JVCs version of an MPEG 2 file.
Use Log and Transfer from the File menu and convert to ProRes.

  • PSE 12 hides Panasonic RAW files. How do I unhide the files?

PSE 12 has a new feature under Preferences/Camera or Card Reader called "Alutomatically Stack RAW and JPEG." Checking this will stack a RAW & JPEG file combination, i.e., when shooting with the camera's RAW + JPEG setting checked. In my case PSE 12 appears to stack my Panasonic RAW files and each JPEG thumbnail shows the right facing arrow to expand the stack. When I click the arrow the arrow disappears but the stack does not expand to reveal the RAW file. The RAW file still exists on the hard drive, but I can't find any way to reveal it in PSE (I've not tried to re-import the RAW files because there are a lot of files in a lot of folders.) This is rather critical and needs to be fixed. Any ideas??

The fact that I tried your scenario with PSE12 and your RAW files rules out any kind of support drop

  • What is a .tod file??

I have a video camera and all the videos are .tod files and .moi files. How can I get these to play on my Mac.

You must have a JVC camcorder; the .tod format is proprietary to JVC. A .moi file is a JVC time-stamp file for the .tod file.
Depending on what model of camcorder you have, this video may give you the information you need:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-Vx5CyYYZo
If not, do a web search for your model of camcorder and "Mac" and you should find additional information on the subject.

  • Panasonic .RW2 files

Is there a way to read Panasonic .RW2 files in Photoshop CS4?  I've tried all of the Camera raw plug-ins to no avail!

    What camera model?
If it came out after the last CS4 Camera Raw update, you'll either need to download and use the free DNG Converter app or update to CS5 or use the software that came with your camera.

  • Does CS6 or Elements 11 camera raw plug-in support the panasonic raw file format rw2

Hi- I am thinking of upgrading to either one of these products as my current versions do not appear to support the panasonic raw file format rw2 but would like to know if the latest versions do support this format before I buy.

Note that CP's correct answer implies the fact that each individual camera model must be supported by ACR.  You can't go just by the format alone.  "RW2" alone is meaningless.  Bear this in mind when you move to a newer camera.  Check the ACR compatibility list first:

  • Is it possible to edit .tod files and mini dv files

Is it possible to edit both .tod files (jvc everio gz hd 7) and files captured from mini dv tapes on same timeline, either in imovie 6 or imovie 8?

However, the problem now is: the JVC footage is wide screen 16:9 (so black stripes top and bottom of screen), and the mini dv is 4:3. How do I get a movie out using either widescreen of 4:3?
You will have to make two decisions. This first is which aspect ratio to use: 16:9, 4:3, or 3:2. The second is whether to use a "Fit" within or "Crop" strategy for mixing the two. The "Fit" option will letterbox or pillar the clip(s) which do not match the aspect ratio. The "Crop" option will fill the screen and crop off the overages. You can however, set the viewing area of the cropped clip(s) using the "Crop" preview window. If the center of attention remains fairly constant throughout the clip, this latter option may work for you. If not, then you may have to "fit" the clip if you don't want to miss anything.

  • Can not import Panasonic AGAF100 files

In the new 2014 Windows (7, 8) version, Panasonic MTS files are not supported, I try in 2 different computers and still gets the same result. Had to go back to previews version just to get it to work. In Mac it works fine.

Well, I was able to import the files after changing the extension from m2t to m2ts.
That took care of the problem.

  • Unable to open .TOD files

I have a JVC Everio hard disc Camcorder with 120 GB hard drive and O.I.S. Hybrid. I can transfer files by dragging them onto my desktop but they are in .TOD format and no application that I have can read them. I have Final Cut Express 4.0 and it's so frustrating that I can't import my video files to edit them.

A friend of mine gave me a bunch of .TOD files on a DVD-R. How can I convert them to use in iMovie or Quicktime?
The files do not open in MPEG Streamclip.
If I get Quicktime MPEG-2 first, will that do anything other than cost $20?
I just want to be able to view the clips and maybe put them into iMovie, not any sort of professional editing.

  • Can't play .TOD files now, when once I could.

I have a lot of vid in .TOD format because I have a JVC HD camcorder. I use to be able to preview and watch them with quicktime but all of a sudden I get an error message saying that the movie contains an incorrect duration. What does this mean? I have MPEG Streamclip to convert the .TOD files but I was still able to preview them in .TOD format. What gives?

"Did nobody else have this problem?"
Or maybe no one knows the answer. Happens at times.
*Maybe if you supply more details:*
Which version of QT are you using?
Are you using PRO or the free version?
What troubleshooting have you tried to resolve the issue? Need this to avoid the +"been there done that"+ scenarios.
Maybe with more info from you some knowledgable users who uses .TOD files will chime in here.
    Thank you.

  • .TOD file direct to Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1

Hi. I use a JVC GZHD7 "1980x1080" camera (.TOD file), imovie HD, FCE HD 3.5.1, MacBookPro intel core duo, Tiger and like you I have been a Mac user since 1987. I am doing fine importing TOD file (raw) to imovie HD and exporting using H.264 compression but can't import raw to FCE HD. I am looking for a way to avoid conversion through quicktime as its time consuming and quality very poor. You can check my short test on www.vimeo.com/1058890 where I exported using H.264 compression at Bitrate 5000 kbits/sec and downsized to 1280x720. Voila. Can anybody help please? Thankyou.

H.264 is a delivery format and is not used in production. If you can import the footage into iMovie it should be converted to the Apple Intermediate Codec. I believe there are also ways to capture this material into FCE. This thread might help http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7039722#7039722 There are others.
