Panasonic VDR-D100... having issues importing home videos!

Hello,
I am having problems importing home videos from my Panasonic VDR-D100 camcorder onto my computer - any suggestions? Do I need additional software or maybe I'm just doing something wrong?
I am connecting my camera via USB then turning it on, opening up iMovie and nothing comes up! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Jen

This may seen like a stupid question, but is the camera set to "Play"? And does the screen show the words "USB Connected" or something to that effect?
Also, after everything is connected have you tried navigating to the File menu and selecting "Import from Camera..."?

  • Panasonic VDR-D100

I was just given a Panasonic VDR-D100 camcorder and was wondering if I can edit my movies with iMovie 6 on my mac mini. Do I need anything more than a firewire to connect the two or do I need to buy different editing software?

    Hi:
No-maybe that site just confused you.
This may be a better explaination:
get for 20$ the Apple mpeg2 plugin
and for free the tool Streamclip for converting mp1/2/4, divx, avi, vob...
    other tools are:
    * DVDxDV, it has a 30d trial period (testdrive sets a watermark)... and cost 25$
    * Cinematize >60$

I updated my ipad1 thru iTunes from 4.2.1 to 4.3.5 and now having issues, especially playing videos. Anything I should know. I have not jail broken my iPad and don't want to.

you update it by connecting it to a computer running itunes and starting itunes up on the computer clicking on it in devices and clicking on the update button in the content menu
if it say you have the latests then it's because you don't own an iphone 3gs but an iphone 3g where the version 4.2.1 was the last released
in that case you can't ever update it

Are you using the Adjust Date and Time option or the Batch Change option?  If it's the former try the latter.  If you get the same results  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import  the same video file and check to see if the same problem persists.

  • Dowloading Panasonic VDR-D100 Camcorder to iMovieHD '06

Does any body know how I can download video recorded material from my D-VDR-D100 Camcorder to iMovie HD '06? No firewire. Has only USB

welcome ben to the  boards ...
your device is a DVDcorder, which isn't supported by iMHD≤6 ... needs to be, as Klaus allready stated, a firewire connected miniDV ..
    two options:
purchase iLife08 .. (be sure, your Mac fullfills hardware req.)
or, finalize disk in camera and search this board for 'DVD Import'.
If your device uses non-standarded sized disk, don't stick into slot-in drives!!!

  • Having trouble importing mpeg videos from an external hard drive to iMovie or iPhoto. Keeps saying unrecognizable format. How do I get it to work?????

I have always had a dell computer. But after the 3rd crash, we decided to throw it out and get a mac. We bought this computer a week ago. I was able to save all our family pics and videos from the dell to an external hard drive. So when I got the new Mac set up, I plugged the hard drive in and had no problem importing all our pictures. But when I tried to import our videos, I ran into some problems. We have had 3 different cameras with each having a different video format. All our videos are either avi, mpeg, or mov. All the avi videos imported successfully but the others will not. I tried importing them into imovie and iphoto and neither one will recognize the format. iphoto says unrecognizable format and imovie just completely freezes and I have to force quit.  Here is what is funny. I took the hard drive to my local store and when they hooked it up to their computer, they imported beautifully. Why won't it do the same for my brand new computer? Thanks!

  • Import home video DVD's into iMovie

I want to import my home video DVD's into iMovie for editing and backup. What is the best way to do this? I have already tried creating a disk image, but somehow when I open these images with iMovie, some parts of the original video are missing. (for example the video on DVD is 60 minutes, but the video opened on iMovie is 50 minutes). I also tried to convert to MPEG 2 using MPEG Streamclip, and purchased the MPEG2 Playback component from Apple Store, but it turns out that this component was intended for earlier versions of OS X, so I could not even install it. I am currently at a lockdown, please help me out!!!

There are directions on the MPEG Streamclip website on how to get the MPEG2 Playback component installed on your computer (I'm assuming your running Mac OS X 10.7). I'm cutting and pasting them here in case someone else runs into the same problems.
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.
Also read the information for Snow Leopard below.
Snow Leopard and MPEG-2 Playback Component
The Snow Leopard upgrade DVD released on August 28, 2009 may wipe the content of the /System/Library/QuickTime folder during the upgrade process, and delete your MPEG-2 Playback Component installed in that folder. To use MPEG-2 files with MPEG Streamclip you have to reinstall the MPEG-2 component or restore it from a backup copy.
If you are going to upgrade to Snow Leopard
Open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder and drag the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file to your desktop to make a copy of it. Then upgrade to Snow Leopard. When the upgrade is complete, open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder again and move the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file from the desktop to the /System/Library/QuickTime folder (enter your administrator password if necessary).
If you already upgraded to Snow Leopard
You have to reinstall or restore your MPEG-2 Playback Component.
If you have a Time Machine backup of your System folder, then open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder, enter Time Machine and go back in time until you see the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file; select that file and then click Restore.
If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online Store, then you probably still have the DMG file that contains the installer. Use Spotlight to search for "QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg": if you find a file with that name, double-click it and then in the disk image, double-click the installer package for Intel Macs.
If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online Store but you can't find the QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg file, you can download the file again from the Apple Online Store if you remember the Apple ID used when you originally purchased it (if you forgot your Apple ID then go to Apple iforgot). Visit the Apple Online Store, click on "Account" in the store menu, then click "Downloadable Software Purchases," enter your Apple ID and password, and click the link to the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to download it again.
If you obtained the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the installation of Final Cut Studio, then you can reinstall it again from the Final Cut Studio DVD. Insert the DVD and use the Finder's Go menu > Go To Folder... command to get to the /Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/ folder inside the DVD. Locate the QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg or the QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg installer: double-click it to reinstall the MPEG-2 component.

  • Import home videos onto ITunes

How can i import my home videos/ DVDs onto Itunes just as you can import your audio CDs onto Itunes?

I had home videos that were sat in my iTunes library no problem but I couldn't get them across to my iPhone, even putting them in their own playlist, ticking all the right tabs in the synch menu etc. After a lot of playing around I found that if you right click on the video, select Get Info, go to Options and then in 'Media Kind', manually change it to Music Video and it will then happily go into the music videos playlist and will synch straight across.
    Hope this helps.

  • Having issues printing to video from fcp 5.1.4 to my hv20

I had unaltered, raw 1080i60 footage i shot and now i need to get it on television at 640x480 4:3 letterboxed. I feel like I've adjusted all the correct settings yet I'm still having issues. I have my hv20 connected via firewire and set to play mode. I go to print to video, have 30 seconds of bars and tone and no video shows up on the camcorded - only sound. After the bars disappear I the first few seconds of the video play before it reports an ett/ptv dropped frames error. Why is this happening and why can't I get video to come into the camera?

  • Importing home video into iMovie not working

When I load my home video dvds they play with DVD Player but I want to import it into iMovie. When opening iMovie I select File/Import/Movie, select the DVD on the desktop and click on import. I then get this message: Nothing to Import... no importable movies were found...
These home videos were burned on a PC with Roxio over the last several years. Unfortunately our home was broken into, computers stolen and these dvds are my only back up. Now trying to figure out how to save them to my new iMac and do some more work with them. Do I need to purchase Quick Time Pro to import to iMovie?

Hi there, I have a question that maybe you can point me in the right direction. I was reading this post and you say to convert over to a DV. Is this done in imovie? I too am trying to import home movies into imovie so I can edit them. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

  • Problem Importing Home Video

I just transferred a home video from VHS to a DVD-R but when I tried to import it to iMovie it set that the format was not compatible with iMovie. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to convert this video so it will work in iMovie. Thanks

I would recommend that you buy the Apple MPEG2 Playback Component ($20) and MPEG Streamclip (free).
Put your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player comes up, quit it. THen open the DVD in the finder.
Open MPEG Streamclip. Drag the VOB files from the DVD to MPEG Streamclip. If it offers to repair timecodes say yes. In Streamclip, FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec, and give the file a name. You can then import this file into iMovie.

  • Importing home videos into Apple TV

I am trying to import my home videos into Apple TV. I have created a video consisting of many clips which are edited together into a coherent whole. This has been saved as an iMovie event. When I try to export this event through Quicktime, all I see are individual clips for import. Where do I find the whole editing video?
    Norman

Try using the Share > iTunes... menu item in iMovie, then sync the movie to Apple TV from iTunes. This is the easiest way of getting an iMovie project onto Apple TV. Is this what you've been doing?
